RESUMO

Advances in genomics have expedited the improvement of several agriculturally important crops but similar efforts in wheat (Triticum spp.) have been more challenging. This is largely owing to the size and complexity of the wheat genome1, and the lack of genome-assembly data for multiple wheat lines2,3. Here we generated ten chromosome pseudomolecule and five scaffold assemblies of hexaploid wheat to explore the genomic diversity among wheat lines from global breeding programs. Comparative analysis revealed extensive structural rearrangements, introgressions from wild relatives and differences in gene content resulting from complex breeding histories aimed at improving adaptation to diverse environments, grain yield and quality, and resistance to stresses4,5. We provide examples outlining the utility of these genomes, including a detailed multi-genome-derived nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat protein repertoire involved in disease resistance and the characterization of Sm16, a gene associated with insect resistance. These genome assemblies will provide a basis for functional gene discovery and breeding to deliver the next generation of modern wheat cultivars.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of Huoxue Dingxuan Capsule on vertebral artery blood flow, plasma plasminogen activator (t-PA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI) in rats with cervical spondylosis of vertebral artery type (CSA). METHODS: Ninety healthy male Wistar rats were equally and randomly divided into control, model and treatment groups. The rats in the model and treatment groups were subject to composite modeling manufacturing CSA.The treatment group was given six-week interventions with Huoxue Dingxuan capsule 4 weeks after the modeling.Vertebral artery blood flow, plasma PAI,and t-PA contents were detected before modeling, prior to the interventions, and post interventions. RESULTS: Before the interventions, the rats in the model and treatment groups had significantly lower blood flow of vertebral artery than the controls (P<0.05).The model rats also had increased serum PAI and t-PA contents (P<0.01).After the interventions, significantly higher vertebral blood flow was found in the treatment group compared with the controls (P<0.05).After the interventions, increased serum PAI and t-PA contents were observed in the rats in the model group (P<0.01);whereas,decreased serum PAI and t-PA contents were observed in the rats in the treatment group (P<0.01).The treatment group had lower levels of serum PAI and t-PA contents than the model group (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Huoxue Dingxuan Capsule glare can improve the blood flow of vertebral artery and reduce serum PAI and t-PA contents.

RESUMO

Despite the exact biological role of HNF1 homolog A (HNF1A) in the regulatory mechanism of glioblastoma (GBM), the molecular mechanism, especially the downstream regulation as a transcription factor, remains to be further elucidated. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression and clinical relevance of HNF1A in GBM patients. CCK8, TUNEL, and subcutaneous tumor formation in nude mice were used to evaluate the effect of HNF1A on GBM in vitro and in vivo. The correction between HNF1A and epidermal growth factor receptor pathway substrate 8 (EPS8) was illustrated by bioinformatics analysis and luciferase assay. Further mechanism was explored that the transcription factor HNF1A regulated the expression of EPS8 and downstream signaling pathways by directly binding to the promoter region of EPS8. Our comprehensive analysis of clinical samples in this study showed that upregulated expression of HNF1A was associated with poor survival in GBM patients. Further, we found that knockdown of HNF1A markedly suppressed the malignant phenotype of GBM cells in vivo and in vitro as well as promoted apoptosis of tumor cells, which was reversed by upregulation of HNF1A. Mechanistically, HNF1A could significantly activate PI3K/AKT signaling pathway by specifically binding to the promoter regions of EPS8. Moreover, overexpression of EPS8 was able to reverse the apoptosis of tumor cells caused by HNF1A knockdown, thereby exacerbating the GBM progression. Correctively, our study has clarified the explicit mechanism by which HNF1A promotes GBM malignancy and provides a new therapeutic target for further clinical application.

RESUMO

Durum wheat cultivars with varying abilities to accumulate cadmium were grown and treated in the field with a glyphosate-containing herbicide at different stages of maturity to produce grain with higher and lower concentrations of cadmium (0.066-0.214 mg/kg) and glyphosate (0.474-0.874 mg/kg). The grain was milled, and fractions were analysed for cadmium and glyphosate. The highest concentrations for both cadmium and glyphosate were associated with bran and shorts, although the percentage of total cadmium mass in bran (23-25%) was less than glyphosate (38%). The preparation of dried pasta from semolina and flour milling fractions reduced concentrations by a factor of 1.8 for glyphosate and 1.4 for cadmium. Dried pasta was cooked and analysed along with the cooking water for cadmium and glyphosate at seven-time points from 0 to 15 min. Concentrations of glyphosate in cooked pasta decreased significantly with cooking time; no decrease was observed for cadmium concentrations. Analysis of cooking water demonstrated that glyphosate migrated from pasta to the cooking water. After 15 min of cooking, approximately 73% of the total glyphosate mass had transferred from pasta to cooking water. Over the same time period, only 5% of the total cadmium mass had transferred from pasta to cooking water.

RESUMO

The pharmacokinetic profile of arctiin, the major active lignan in fruits of Arctium lappa L., was investigated. Its main meta"bolite arctigenin was identified by an LC-MS method, and an HPLC-UV technique was developed for the simultaneous quantification of the metabolite and arctiin in plasma and organs. Chromatographic separation was performed on an Agilent™ C18 HPLC column with acetonitrile and water by linear gradient elution. Arctiin and arctigenin were identified on-line by LC-MS. The pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of arctiin and arctigenin were determined for the first time by using a simple, selective, and accurate HPLC method. The AUC0-t values of arctigenin were larger compared with arctiin after oral administration of arctiin. The concentration of the metabolite was significantly higher than the concentration of arctiin in the stomach and small intestine in rats after oral administration of arctiin, indicating that the stomach and small intestine were the major organs of arctiin metabolism. These findings could provide support for the clinical studies conducted with Fructus Arctii.

RESUMO

There are long-standing established intrinsic quality requirements of end products made from durum wheat semolina, with color, textural, and cooking properties of pasta and couscous representing persistent key attributes for consumers. Over time, traditional efforts to advance development in these areas with respect to raw material, equipment, and process improvements have been influenced by growing awareness of issues around food safety, health and nutrition, and climate change, necessitating that development strategies incorporate specific considerations relating to safety, traceability, and sustainability. We examined improvements in durum wheat quality and innovations in milling and the resulting impact on product quality in light of these considerations, which are now fundamental to the planning and development of any food process, as required by consumers and regulators alike.

RESUMO

Wheat remains a critical global food source, pressured by climate change and the need to maximize yield, improve processing and nutritional quality and ensure safety. An enormous amount of research has been conducted to understand gluten protein composition and structure in relation to end-use quality, yet progress has become stagnant. This is mainly due to the need and inability to biochemically characterize the intact functional glutenin polymer in order to correlate to quality, necessitating reduction to monomeric subunits and a loss of contextual information. While some individual gluten proteins might have a positive or negative influence on gluten quality, it is the sum total of these proteins, their relative and absolute expression, their sub-cellular trafficking, the amount and size of glutenin polymers, and ratios between gluten protein classes that define viscoelasticity of gluten. The sub-cellular trafficking of gluten proteins during seed maturation is still not completely clear and there is evidence of dual pathways and therefore different destinations for proteins, either constitutively or temporally. The trafficking of proteins is also unclear in endosperm cells as they undergo programmed cell death; Golgi disappear around 12 DPA but protein filling continues at least to 25 DPA. Modulation of the timing of cellular events will invariably affect protein deposition and therefore gluten strength and function. Existing and emerging proteomics technologies such as proteoform profiling and top-down proteomics offer new tools to study gluten protein composition as a whole system and identify compositional patterns that can modify gluten structure with improved functionality.

RESUMO

The bioaccessibility of carotenoids varies among different foods due to factors such as food matrix composition and type or extent of processing. Hence it is important to understand the extent to which these factors influence carotenoid bioaccessibility after the consumption and digestion of food. This study evaluated the carotenoid content, micellization efficiency, digestive stability, antioxidant activity and bioaccessibility of carotenoids as impacted by wheat cultivar and cooking duration among whole wheat flour (WWF) and refined semolina (RS) pasta. WWF and RS pasta were processed from three durum wheat cultivars (AAC Spitfire, CDC Precision, and Transcend) and cooked to al dente (Al), fully cooked (FCT) or overcooked (OC). The study showed that the wheat cultivar and cooking duration were significant functions of bioaccessible lutein in RS samples while only the cultivar influenced the bioaccessibility of zeaxanthin and lutein in WWF samples. In both WWF and RS, the effect of the cultivar on the bioaccessibility of lutein and zeaxanthin was similar and was as follows: Transcend > CDC Precision > AAC Spitfire. Cooking to Al significantly caused an increment in bioaccessible lutein in RS samples regardless of the wheat cultivar. This influence of cooking duration (Al > FCT > OC) was inversely related to the lutein concentrations in undigested pasta (OC = FCT > Al). DPPH scavenging activity among WWF samples was about 2-fold greater or more than that of RS samples regardless of the cultivar or cooking duration before and after digestion. Our data suggest that the effect of wheat cultivar and cooking duration modulates the bioaccessibility and antioxidant activity of RS and WWF pasta products.

RESUMO

The neoadjuvant chemotherapy plays an important role in locally advanced gastric cancer, but its efficacy, safety profiles and clinical outcomes among different regimens still remain controversial. In this study, totally 231 eligible patients with locally advanced gastric cancer were enrolled. These patients were divided into the observation group (SOX regimen, n = 123) and control group (mFOLFOX6 regimen, n = 108) according to different chemotherapy regimens. Then, the differences in chemotherapy efficacy, adverse reactions, surgical characteristics, complications and survival condition were compared. No significant differences were observed in clinical efficacy of chemotherapy, the rate of D2 lymph node clearance, R0 resection, complications, responses of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and survival condition between two groups (P > 0.05). The incidence of abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (16.26% vs 29.63%, χ2 = 5.893, P < 0.05; 11.38% vs 26.85%, χ2 = 9.084, P < 0.05; 35.77% vs 53.70%, χ2 = 7.499, P < 0.05). The SOX regimen and mFOLFOX6 regimen have similar chemotherapy efficacy for locally advanced gastric cancer, but SOX regimen has a lower risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions comparing with mFOLFOX6 regimen.

RESUMO

This study investigates the impact of different pasta cooking durations (al dente, fully cooked or overcooked) on the carotenoid content and physical properties of whole wheat and refined semolina pasta prepared from three Canadian durum wheat cultivars. Carotenoids were analyzed using HPLC and spectrophotometry. Generally increasing cooking duration non-significantly increased lutein, zeaxanthin, total carotenoids, significantly increased the cis carotenoids but decreased carotenoid retention and firmness regardless of flour type or wheat cultivar. Despite this decrease, whole wheat pasta was significantly firmer than semolina when overcooked regardless of wheat cultivar. Antioxidant capacity was highly influenced by flour type but did not show a clear trend with cooking duration. Overall analysis indicates that increasing cooking duration of whole wheat or semolina pasta above 7 or 8 mins respectively allows for the maximum extraction of carotenoids with possible accessibility by digestive enzymes when consumed but this affects cooking quality including high cooking loss.

RESUMO

This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of kernel size and its potential interaction with genotype on durum wheat quality with emphases on kernel physical characteristics, milling performance, and color-related quality parameters. Wheat samples of seven genotypes, selected from the 2018 Canadian durum variety registration trial, were segregated into large (LK), medium (MK), and small-sized kernels (SK). In general, the kernel size greatly affected the durum wheat milling performance. Within a given size fraction, a strong impact of genotype was shown on the test weight of SK and the milling yields of MK and LK. Particularly, the MK fraction, segregated from the genotypes with superior milling quality, had a higher semolina yield than LK from the genotypes of inferior milling quality, inferring the importance of intrinsic physicochemical properties of durum kernels in affecting milling quality. SK exhibited inferior milling quality regardless of the genotypes selected. A strong impact of genotype was shown for the total yellow pigment (TYP) content and yellowness of semolina, while the kernel size had a significant impact on the brightness and redness of the semolina and pasta. Despite SK possessing much higher TYP, the semolina and pasta prepared from SK were lower in brightness and yellowness but with elevated redness.

RESUMO

Fusarium infection is a worldwide agricultural problem of billion dollar proportions globally, and it has increasingly threatened entire regional food supplies. In addition to the toxin deoxynivalenol (DON), Fusarium species express digestive enzymes that degrade starch and protein, affecting the quality of infected grains, especially wheat processing performance which depends largely on gluten proteins. In this study, the impact of Fusarium protease on the functionality of Canada Western Red Spring (CWRS) wheat was assessed by adding Fusarium-damaged kernels (FDK) to a FDK-free base wheat sample. Digestion of beta-casein by extracts of flours, milled from sound and FDK-spiked wheat samples, demonstrated elevated cleavage in FDK-spiked flour extracts as follows: N-terminal to lysine (eight-fold), N- and C-terminal to isoleucine (four-fold and three-fold, respectively), N-terminal to tyrosine (three-fold) and C-terminal to arginine at P1' (five-fold). Comparison of abbreviated (45 min) and standard (135 min) extensigraph test results indicated that desirable increases in dough resistance to extension (Rmax) due to gluten re-polymerization after longer resting were partially to completely counteracted in FDK-spiked flours in a dose-dependent manner. Baking tests confirmed that while loaf volume is similar, proofed dough from FDK-spiked samples caused detectable loaf collapse at 3% FDK. Extensigraph Rmax and Fusarium protease levels were inversely related, and effected by both the extent and severity of infection. While the current FDK tolerances for grading Canadian wheat can effectively control protease damage, prevalence of deoxynivalenol (DON) weak- and non-producing Fusarium strains/species (e.g., F. avenaceum) in some growing regions must be considered to protect functionality if grading is solely based on DON content.

RESUMO

Grain protein concentration (GPC) is an important trait in durum cultivar development as a major determinant of the nutritional value of grain and end-use product quality. However, it is challenging to simultaneously select both GPC and grain yield (GY) due to the negative correlation between them. To characterize quantitative trait loci (QTL) for GPC and understand the genetic relationship between GPC and GY in Canadian durum wheat, we performed both traditional and conditional QTL mapping using a doubled haploid (DH) population of 162 lines derived from Pelissier × Strongfield. The population was grown in the field over 5 years and GPC was measured. QTL contributing to GPC were detected on chromosome 1B, 2B, 3A, 5B, 7A, and 7B using traditional mapping. One major QTL on 3A (QGpc.spa-3A.3) was consistently detected over 3 years accounting for 9.4-18.1% of the phenotypic variance, with the favorable allele derived from Pelissier. Another major QTL on 7A (QGpc.spa-7A) detected in 3 years explained 6.9-14.8% of the phenotypic variance, with the beneficial allele derived from Strongfield. Comparison of the QTL described here with the results previously reported led to the identification of one novel major QTL on 3A (QGpc.spa-3A.3) and five novel minor QTL on 1B, 2B and 3A. Four QTL were common between traditional and conditional mapping, with QGpc.spa-3A.3 and QGpc.spa-7A detected in multiple environments. The QTL identified by conditional mapping were independent or partially independent of GY, making them of great importance for development of high GPC and high yielding durum.

RESUMO

It's a challenge for detecting the therapeutic targets of a polypharmacological drug from variations in the responsed networks in the differentiated populations with complex diseases, as stable coronary heart disease. Here, in an adaptive, 31-center, randomized, double-blind trial involving 920 patients with moderate symptomatic stable angina treated by 14-day Danhong injection(DHI), a kind of polypharmacological drug with high quality control, or placebo (0.9% saline), with 76-day following-up, we firstly confirmed that DHI could increase the proportion of patients with clinically significant changes on angina-frequency assessed by Seattle Angina Questionnaire (ΔSAQ-AF ≥ 20) (12.78% at Day 30, 95% confidence interval [CI] 5.86-19.71%, P = 0.0003, 13.82% at Day 60, 95% CI 6.82-20.82%, P = 0.0001 and 8.95% at Day 90, 95% CI 2.06-15.85%, P = 0.01). We also found that there were no significant differences in new-onset major vascular events (P = 0.8502) and serious adverse events (P = 0.9105) between DHI and placebo. After performing the RNA sequencing in 62 selected patients, we developed a systemic modular approach to identify differentially expressed modules (DEMs) of DHI with the Zsummary value less than 0 compared with the control group, calculated by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and sketched out the basic framework on a modular map with 25 functional modules targeted by DHI. Furthermore, the effective therapeutic module (ETM), defined as the highest correlation value with the phenotype alteration (ΔSAQ-AF, the change in SAQ-AF at Day 30 from baseline) calculated by WGCNA, was identified in the population with the best effect (ΔSAQ-AF ≥ 40), which is related to anticoagulation and regulation of cholesterol metabolism. We assessed the modular flexibility of this ETM using the global topological D value based on Euclidean distance, which is correlated with phenotype alteration (r2: 0.8204, P = 0.019) by linear regression. Our study identified the anti-angina therapeutic module in the effective population treated by the multi-target drug. Modular methods facilitate the discovery of network pharmacological mechanisms and the advancement of precision medicine. (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT01681316).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: It remains to be established whether spinal cord ischemic tolerance can be induced by limb remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC), and the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effects of RIPC on the spinal cord need to be clarified. METHODS: Spinal cord ischemia was studied in New Zealand White rabbits. In experiment 1, all rabbits were subjected to 20-min spinal cord ischemia by aortic occlusion. Thirty minutes before ischemia, rabbits were subjected to sham intervention or RIPC achieved by bilateral femoral artery occlusion (10 min ischemia/10 min reperfusion, two cycles). Dimethylthiourea (500 mg/kg, intravenously), a hydroxyl radical scavenger, or vehicle was given 1 h before RIPC. Antioxidant enzyme activity was measured along with spinal cord histology and neurologic function. In experiment 2, rabbits were subjected to spinal cord ischemia, with or without RIPC. In addition, rabbits were pretreated with various doses of hexamethonium. RESULTS: RIPC improved neurologic function and reduced histologic damage. This was associated with increased endogenous antioxidant activity. Dimethylthiourea inhibited the protective effects of RIPC. In contrast, there was no effect of hexamethonium on the protective effect of RIPC. CONCLUSIONS: An initial oxidative stress acts as a trigger to upregulate antioxidant enzyme activity, rather than the neural pathway, and plays an important role in the formation of the tolerance against spinal cord ischemia by limb RIPC.

RESUMO

Although most of the durum wheat produced in the Canadian prairies in 2017 and 2018 met the test weight (TW) requirements for the top grades of Canada Western Amber Durum (CWAD), some samples of top grades were inferior in milling quality. To understand the abnormality, this study was conducted to investigate TW, thousand kernel weight (TKW) and kernel size distribution (KSD) in relation to durum milling potential, semolina composition and pasta quality. With reduction of kernel size, semolina and total milling yields decreased progressively, and kernels passing through no.6 slotted sieve had detrimental impact on milling. The overall relationship between TW and milling yields appeared to be genotype dependent. At similar TW, variety showed lower milling yields had greater proportion of smaller kernels. By account for the difference in KSD, greater relationships (R2 > 0.91, p < 0.001) were found for TKW and proportion of kernels passing No.6 slotted sieve with milling yields than TW (R2 = 0.75, p < 0.001). This infers potential use of small kernels (passing No.6 slotted sieve) as a new objective grading factor for rapid prediction of milling quality of CWAD. Although small kernels exhibited much higher yellow pigment than the larger ones, pasta made from small kernels was duller, redder and less yellow, likely due to the higher semolina ash and protein contents, which adversely affected pasta color.

RESUMO

This research investigated changes in the amounts and sizes of monomeric proteins and protein aggregates during dough mixing, with a focus on the contribution of non-covalent bonds in the aggregation of gluten proteins. High protein flour (HF) and low protein flour (LF) were used in this study. As dough mixing progressed from flour to overmixed dough, the total amount of protein aggregates increased while the amount of monomeric protein decreased. Omega-gliadin was the major monomeric protein that decreased in quantity. Interestingly, the amount of larger-sized protein aggregates decreased and that of smaller-sized protein aggregates increased. The amount of gluten protein macro-polymer aggregated through strong non-covalent bonds decreased whereas aggregates formed with weaker non-covalent bonds increased. LF dough behaved similar to HF dough. Large-sized gluten protein aggregates disaggregated due to the weakening of non-covalent bonds and became smaller. Omega-gliadin was incorporated into gluten protein aggregates during dough mixing.

Objectives:To analyze the functional movement characteristics after brace treatment for patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis(AIS),and to develop and validate a nomogram model to predict the risk of poor outcome. Methods:AIS patients who were treated with braces at our institution from March 2020 to March 2022 were collected as a training set,and were tested for functional movement before treatment,at initial follow-up and after treatment. The same criteria were used to collect AIS patients who underwent brace treatment in our hospital from April 2022 to August 2022 as the validation set.On the basis of whether the degree of scoliosis progression was>5° after 1 year of treatment, the patients in the training set were divided into stable(≤5°)and progressive(>5°)groups.Comparison of data was made between groups.Spearman corre-lation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between variables.Logistic regression model was used to screen the risk factors for poor outcomes.R software was applied to develop a nomogram prediction model.Area under curve(AUC)of receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve and calibration curve were applied to evaluate the discrimination and accuracy of the model.Internal validation was performed with the model predicted risk values before and after training set Bootstrap self-sampling as the test variables and the actual prognosis of patients as the state variable;External validation of the model was performed after randomization of the validation set Bootstrap self-sampling.Results:A total of 102 patients with AIS were included in the training set. There were 73 cases in the stable group and 29 cases in the progressive group(range of degrees of progression:8° to 27°).The median follow-up time was 15.4 months. Both thoracic and lumbar Cobb angles decreased significantly after treatment(P<0.05).Rotational stability and push-ups were higher at initial follow-up than before treatment, and scores on bow-step squat, hurdle striding, rotational stability, and push-ups improved after treatment(P<0.05).There was no significant correlation between functional movement characteristics and Cobb angle(P>0.05).Pre-treatment Cobb angle≥35°,Risser's sign≥3°,apex rotation≥degree Ⅲ,and spinal length gain≥20mm/year were independent risk factors for scoliosis progression.Lumbar spine bone density≥0.8g/cm2 and spinal flexibility≥50%were protective factors. The total value of the risk of scoliosis progression after brace treatment predicted by the nomogram model was 0.93.The AUCs before and after training set self-sampling were 0.928(95%CI:0.858-0.998)and 0.926(95%CI:0.854-0.997),respectively.The validation set included 37 patients. The external validation AUC for validation set was 0.891(95%CI:0.857-0.998).The calibration curves all showed good degree of fitting. Conclusions:Patients with AIS have poor movement patterns due to spinal restrictions.Brace treatment improves trunk stability and rotational stability, which has good corrective effects on the movement pattern.AIS patients with Cobb angle≥35°,Risser's sign≥3°,apex rotation≥degree Ⅲ,spinal length gain≥20mm/year,lumbar spine bone mineral density<0.8g/cm2,and spinal flexibility<50%before treatment who underwent bracing are prone to scoliosis progression.Timely warning shall be made based on the nomogram model and postural correction needs to be supplemented at appropriate time to improve the prognosis of AIS brace treatment.

RESUMO

ObjectiveTo analyze the spectrum distribution characteristics of high-intensity productive noise in key industries in Guangdong Province. Methods A total of 2 806 enterprises in 21 prefecture-level cities in Guangdong Province were selected as the study subjects using the stratified sampling method. On-site investigations were conducted in workplaces. Noise in workplaces and work-sites, and the noise spectrum of the workplaces with sound pressure level ≥85.0 dB(A) were detected. Results The noise of a total of 23 076 workplaces and 20 969 work sites from 30 key industries were monitored. The median (M) and 25th and 75th percentiles (P25, P75) of workplace sound pressure level were 82.3 (78.6, 86.5) dB(A). The rate of the noise exceeded national standard was 30.4%. The sound pressure level M (P25, P75) of work-site was 78.6 (70.0, 83.5) dB(A). The rate of the noise exceeded national standard was 18.0%. Workplace noise and work site noise were positively correlated (Spearman correlation coefficient=0.86, P<0.01). The rate of the noise exceeded national standard was 46.5% in key work sites where the rate of noise exceeded the national standard was ≥25.0%, and corresponding rate of the workplace noise exceeded national standard was 58.1%. The noise spectrum result of 5 636 workplaces sound pressure level>85.0 dB(A) showed that most of the noise source was from grinding machines (441 cases), and the highest average sound pressure level of noise source was from screening machines [93.0 dB(A)]. Cluster analysis results showed that the main noise sources could be divided into three categories, including wideband noise with levels >80.0 dB in all frequency bands except 8 000.0 Hz, medium-high-frequency noise with the highest sound pressure level at 1 000.0, 2 000.0, and 4 000.0 Hz and low frequencies <75.0 dB, and medium-low-frequency noise below 500.0 Hz with sound pressure level >85.0 dB. Conclusion The rate of the noise exceeded national standard in workplace of key industries in Guangdong Province is high, involving a wide range of industries, with high sound pressure levels and obvious spectrum characteristics of corresponding noise sources. Corresponding noise control strategies can be formulated based on different spectrum characteristics and magnitudes.
