RESUMO

Speckle with non-Rayleigh amplitude distribution has significant research value in imaging and measurement using structured illumination. However, existing speckle customizing schemes have been limited in generation speed due to the refresh rate of spatial light modulators (SLMs). In this work, we proposed a method to rapidly generate non-Rayleigh distributed speckle fields using a digital micro-mirror device (DMD). In contrast to SLMs that allow for gray-scale phase modulation, DMD is limited to binary amplitude control. To solve this limitation, we design a Gerchberg-Saxton-like algorithm based on super-pixel method, this algorithm enables the customization of non-Rayleigh speckle with arbitrary intensity probability density function. Statistical analyses of experimental results have demonstrated that the customized speckles exhibit excellent stability in their lateral statistical properties, while also maintaining consistent propagation characteristics with Rayleigh speckle in the longitudinal direction. This method provides a new approach for high-speed and arbitrary intensity speckle customization, holding potential applications in imaging, measurement, and encryption fields.

The potential mechanisms by which drought restricts cotton fiber cell wall synthesis and fiber strength are still not fully understood. Herein, drought experiments were conducted using two cultivars of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum), Dexiamian 1 (drought-tolerant) and Yuzaomian 9110 (drought-sensitive). Results showed that drought notably reduced sucrose efflux from cottonseed coats to fibers by down-regulating the expression of GhSWEET10 and GhSWEET15 in outer cottonseed coats, leading to enhanced sucrose accumulation in cottonseed coats but decreased sucrose accumulation in fibers. Within cotton fibers, drought restricted the hydrolysis of sucrose to uridine-5'-diphosphoglucose by suppressing sucrose synthase activity, and drought favored the conversion of uridine-5'-diphosphoglucose to ß-1,3-glucan rather than cellulose by up-regulating GhCALS5. Hence, cellulose content was reduced, which was the main reason for the decreased fiber strength under drought. Moreover, drought promoted lignin synthesis by up-regulating the expression of Gh4CL4, GhPAL9, GhCCR5, GhCAD11, and GhCOMT6, which partly offset the negative influence of reduced cellulose content on fiber strength. Compared with Yuzaomian 9110, the drought-tolerance of Dexiamian 1 was evidenced by the following under drought conditions: (i) greater sucrose flow from seedcoat to fiber, (ii) less ß-1,3-glucan accumulation, and (iii) more lignin biosynthesis. Overall, this study provides new insights into the mechanism of reduced cotton fiber strength induced by drought.

BACKGROUND: Muscle occupies most of the fish body, promoting the proliferation of fish muscle fibers can facilitate rapid growth and increase the body weight of fish. Some studiesSeveral previous suggest that Myogenic regulatory factors (MRFs) play an important role in the growth of fish. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between the polymorphism of MRFs gene family and growth traits in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), get more molecular markers for growth. METHODS: Amplified the Nile tilapia MRFs family gene, including Myogenic determination 1 (Myod1), Myogenic determination 2 (Myod2), Myogenin (Myog), Myogenic factor 5 (Myf5), and Myogenic factor 6 (Myf6), single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) were screened by Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: A total of 16 SNP loci were screened, including six for Myf5, six for Myf6, one for Myog, one for Myod1 and two for Myod2. The growth traits were analyzed in relation to these 16 SNP loci, and the results indicated significant associations between all 16 SNP loci and the growth traits (P < 0.05). The linkage disequilibrium analysis revealed that D1 and D2 diplotypes of Myf5 gene, E1, E2, E3 and E4 of Myf6 gene, and F1 diplotype of Myod2 gene were significantly associated with superior growth traits. CONCLUSION: There were 6, 6, 1, 1 and 2 growth-related molecular markers in Myf5, Myf6, Myog, Myod1 and Myod2 genes, respectively, which could be applied to the breeding of Nile tilapia.

Drought stress significantly affects cotton's net photosynthetic rate (A) by restraining stomatal (gs ) and mesophyll conductance (gm ) as well as perturbing its biochemical process, resulting in yield reductions. Despite the significant progress in dissecting effects of drought on photosynthesis, the variability observed in cotton's gm , and the mechanisms contributing to that variability under dynamic drought stress conditions are poorly understood. For that reason, a controlled-environment experiment with two cotton genotypes (Dexiamian 1, Yuzaomian 9110), three water levels (soil relative water content: control [75 ± 5]%, moderate drought [60 ± 5]%, severe drought [45 ± 5]%), and two drought durations (10 and 31 days) were conducted. The results indicated that the cotton boll biomass was significantly decreased under 10-day severe drought and 31-day moderate and severe drought. Decreases in gs were later accompanied by decreases in gm and further combined with reductions in electron transport rate, as drought stress progressed in duration and severity, ultimately resulting in significant reductions in A of subtending leaf. Stomatal and mesophyll conductance constraints were the primary factors limiting photosynthesis, while biochemical constraints decreased, as drought stress progressed. Considering gm , its decline was ascribed to increases in the diffusion resistance of CO2 through cytoplasm (rcyt ), under short- or long-term drought, as well as to increases in leaf dry mass (LMA), and decreases in the chloroplast surface area exposed to intercellular air space (Sc /S), under long-term drought. It was concluded that A could be enhanced, under dynamic drought stress conditions, by increasing gm through increasing Sc /S and reducing LMA and rcyt .

In maize, young kernels that are less competitive and have poor sink activity often abort. Studies have indicated that such poor competitiveness depends, in part, on the regulation by auxin (IAA) and abscisic acid (ABA). However, the mechanisms for such effects remain unclear. We used pollination-blocking and hand-pollination treatments accompanied by multi-omics and physiological tests, to identify underlying mechanism by which IAA and ABA, along with sugar signaling affect kernel development. Results showed that preventing pollination of the primary ears reactivated kernels in the secondary ears and altered both sugar metabolism and hormone signaling pathways. This was accompanied by increased enzyme activities in carbon metabolism and concentrations of glucose and starch, as well as increased levels of IAA and decreased levels of ABA in the reactivated kernels. Positive and negative correlations were observed between IAA, ABA contents and cell wall invertase (CWIN) activity, and glucose contents, respectively. In vitro culture revealed that the expression of genes involved in glucose utilization was upregulated by IAA, but downregulated by ABA. IAA could promote the expression of ABA signaling genes ZmPP2C9 and ZmPP2C13 but downregulated the expression of Zmnced5, an ABA biosynthesis gene, and ZmSnRK2.10, which is involved in ABA signal transduction. However, these genes showed opposite trends when IAA transport was inhibited. To summarize, we suggest a regulatory model for how IAA inhibits ABA metabolism by promoting the smooth utilization of glucose in reactivated young kernels. Our findings highlight the importance of IAA in ABA signaling by regulating glucose production and transport in maize.

Potassium (K) application can alleviate cotton salt stress, but the regulatory mechanisms affecting cotton fiber elongation and ion homeostasis are still unclear. A two-year field experiment was conducted to explore the effects of K on the osmolyte contents (soluble sugar, K+ content, and malate) and related enzyme activities during the fiber elongation of two cotton cultivars with contrasting salt sensitivity (CCRI-79; salt tolerant cultivar, and Simian 3; salt-sensitive cultivar). Three K application treatments (0, 150, and 300 kg K2 O ha-1 ) were applied at three soil salinity levels (low salinity, EC = 1.73 ± 0.05 dS m-1 ; medium salinity, EC = 6.32 ± 0.10 dS m-1 ; high salinity, EC = 10.84 ± 0.24 dS m-1 ). K application improved fiber length and alleviated salt stress by increasing the maximum velocity of fiber elongation (Vmax ). The increase rate of K on fiber length decreased with elevating salt stress, and the increase rate of K on Vmax of CCRI-79 was greater than that of Simian3. K application can increase the enzyme activities (phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase, PEPC, E.C. 4.1.1.31; pyrophosphatase, PPase, E.C. 3.6.1.1; and plasma membrane H+ -ATPase, PM H+ -ATPase, E.C. 3.6.3.14) as well as the content of osmolytes associated with the enzymes mentioned above. K increased the osmolyte contents under salt stress, and the increase in the K+ content of the fibers was much higher than that of soluble sugar and malate. The results of this study indicated K fertilizer application rates regulate the metabolism of osmolytes in cotton fiber development under salt stress, K+ is more critical to fiber elongation.

Tilapia is one of the most economically important freshwater fish farmed in China. Streptococcosis outbreaks have been extensively documented in farmed tilapia species. Hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus ♀ × O. aureus ♂) exhibit greater disease resistance than Nile tilapia (O. niloticus) and blue tilapia (O. aureus). However, the molecular mechanism underlying the enhanced tolerance of hybrid tilapia is still poorly understood. In this study, comparative transcriptome analysis was performed to reveal the different tolerance mechanisms to Streptococcus agalactiae in the three tilapia lines. In total, 1982, 2355, and 2076 differentially expressed genes were identified at 48 h post-infection in hybrid tilapia, Nile tilapia, and blue tilapia, respectively. Functional enrichment analysis indicated that numerous metabolic and immune-related pathways were activated in all three tilapia lines. The differential expression of specific genes associated with phagosome, focal adhesion, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, and toll-like receptor signaling pathways contributed to the resistance of hybrid tilapia. Notably, immune response genes in hybrid tilapia, such as P38, TLR5, CXCR3, CXCL12, PSTPIP1, and TFR, were generally suppressed under normal conditions but selectively induced following pathogen challenge. These results expand our knowledge of the molecular mechanisms underlying S. agalactiae tolerance in hybrid tilapia and provide valuable insights for tilapia breeding programs.

Single-pixel imaging (SPI) has been intensively studied in recent years for its capacity to obtain 2D images using a non-pixelated detector. However, the traditional modulation modality using an iteratively refreshed spatial light modulator has significantly restricted its imaging speed, which is a primary barrier to its widespread application. In this work, we propose and demonstrate a new, to the best of our knowledge, SPI scheme using a spinning mask for modulation. An annular binary mask is designed and spun to perform fast spatial modulation, neglecting the iterative modulation modality that limits SPI speed. A multi-spectral SPI system at 100 frames per second is demonstrated, covering a wide range of spectra, from ultraviolet to short-wave infrared light. We believe that this elegant and low-cost scheme will enable SPI to pave its way for practical application.

Ischemic stroke poses a significant health risk due to its high rate of disability and mortality. To address this problem, several therapeutic approaches have been proposed, including interruption targeting programmed cell death (PCD). Ferroptosis is a newly defined PCD characterized by iron-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxidation, and is becoming a promising target for treating numerous diseases. To explore the underlying mechanisms of the initiation and execution of ferroptosis in ischemic stroke, we established stroke models in vivo and in vitro simulating ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) neuronal injury. Different from previous reports on stroke, we tested ferroptosis by measuring the levels of core proteins, such as ACSL4, 15-LOX2, Ferritin and GPX4. In addition, I/R injury induces excessive degradation of ferritin via the autophagy pathway and subsequent increase of free iron in neurons. This phenomenon has recently been termed ferritinophagy and reported to be regulated by nuclear receptor coactivator 4 (NCOA4) in some cell lines. Increased NCOA4 in cytoplasm was detected in our study and then silenced by shRNA to investigate its function. Both in vivo and in vitro, NCOA4 deletion notably abrogated ferritinophagy caused by I/R injury and thus inhibited ferroptosis. Furthermore, we found that NCOA4 was upregulated by ubiquitin specific peptidase 14 (USP14) via a deubiquitination process in damaged neurons, and we found evidence of pharmacological inhibition of USP14 effectively reducing NCOA4 levels to protect neurons from ferritinophagy-mediated ferroptosis. These findings suggest a novel and effective target for treating ischemic stroke.

There is accumulating evidence showing that exercise therapy may play an active role in peripheral neuropathic pain (NP), but its mechanism is still unclear. Studies have found that microRNAs (miRNAs) may play a role in NP by regulating pain-related target genes. Therefore, we aimed to explore the changes of miRNA and mRNA of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) after NP in response to exercise with transcriptome technology. The chronic constriction injury (CCI) model was established, and rats were randomly allocated into three groups, namely, the sham-operated, CCI, and CCI-exercised groups. L4-L6 DRG tissue was taken for RNA-sequencing, and the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were determined through bioinformatics analysis. Real-time PCR was used to confirm the accuracy. A total of 4 overlapping differentially expressed miRNAs and 186 overlapping differentially expressed mRNAs were identified in the two comparisons of the sham-operated group versus the CCI group and the CCI group versus the CCI-exercised group. Among these DEGs, miR-145-5p, miR-341, miR-300-5p, miR-653-5p, Atf3, Cacna2d1, Gal, and Ctss related to NP were validated by real-time PCR. DEGs between the CCI and CCI-exercised groups were enriched in HIF-1 signaling pathway, Rap1 signaling pathway, and neurotrophin signaling pathway. This study provides an understanding of the adaptive mechanisms after exercise of NP, and these DEGs in DRG might play a role in NP by stimulating the enriched pathways.

Microglial cells are key component of central nervous system (CNS) and mediate the immune response of the brain under physiological or pathological conditions. It tends to activate into a pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and promote secondary brain damage. Recently, necroptosis was found to promote microglial activation and neuroinflammation after TBI. However, the mechanism and specific interventions of microglial necroptosis after TBI remain poorly investigated. Here, we reported that overexpress the charged multivesicular body protein 4b (CHMP4B) which is a core member of the endosomal sorting required for transport complex III (ESCRT-III) significantly decreased the level of necroptosis in microglia, improved neurological function recovery and protected against cell death after TBI. Further investigation showed that forkhead transcription factor O1 (FOXO1) was a crucial transcription factor that increased CHMP4B transcription by binding to the promoter region, thereby inhibiting necroptosis in microglia. Collectively, our findings demonstrated that CHMP4B relieved microglial necroptosis and neuroinflammation after TBI, and promote the recovery of nerve function. FOXO1 is an important factor in promoting CHMP4B expression. This study provides the novel viewpoint for TBI prevention and treatment.

The molecular mechanisms underlying neuropathic pain (NP) remain poorly understood. Emerging evidence has suggested the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the initiation and development of NP, but the specific effects of miRNAs in NP are largely unknown. Here, we use network- and pathway-based methods to investigate NP-induced miRNA changes and their biological functions by conducting a systematic search through multiple electronic databases. Thirty-seven articles meet the inclusion criteria. Venn analysis and target gene forecasting are performed and the results indicate that 167 overlapping target genes are co-regulated by five down-regulated miRNAs (rno-miR-183, rno-miR-96, rno-miR-30b, rno-miR-150 and rno-miR-206). Protein-protein interaction network analysis shows that 77 genes exhibit interactions, with cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit beta (degree = 11) and cAMP-response element binding protein 1 (degree = 10) having the highest connectivity degree. Gene ontology analysis shows that these target genes are enriched in neuron part, neuron projection, somatodendritic compartment and nervous system development. Moreover, analysis of Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes reveals that three pathways, namely, axon guidance, circadian entrainment and insulin secretion, are significantly enriched. In addition, rno-miR-183, rno-miR-96, rno-miR-30b, rno-miR-150 and rno-miR-206 are consistently down-regulated in the NP models, thus constituting the potential biomarkers of this disease. Characterizing these miRNAs and their target genes paves way for their future use in clinical practice.

Currently seldom cases have been reported that generalized morphea could accompany with organ dysfunction. However, our study reveals not only morphea could complicate with intranet organ involvements but it may also be the early phase of systemic sclerosis. Furthermore, our therapy challenged the traditional morphea treatment to prove that cyclophosphamide and glucocorticoid are efficient to treat morphea with organ dysfunction.

BACKGROUND This study investigated how whole-body vibration (WBV), exercise, and their interactions influence core muscle activity in healthy young adults. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-three healthy young adults (8 males and 15 females; age: 21.87±2.33 years) participated in the study. The activities of muscle multifidi (MM), rectus abdominis muscle (RM), erector spinae (ES), abdominis obliquus externus (AOE), and abdominis obliquus internus (AOI) were measured through surface electromyography (sEMG) while participants were performing 4 different exercise forms under 3 WBV conditions (condition 1: 5 Hz, 2 mm; condition 2: 10 Hz, 2 mm; and condition 3: 15 Hz, 2 mm) and a no-WBV condition in single experimental sessions. RESULTS The WBV frequency of 15 Hz is the best vibration stimulation for core muscles in all of the exercises (P<0.05). Single bridge is a better exercise for RM and AOE (P<0.05) compared with other exercises, and crunches is the best exercise for MM, AOI, and ES (P<0.05). Significant interaction effect was observed in different frequencies and exercises (P>0.05) except for AOI (F=0.990, P=0.378). CONCLUSIONS High vibration frequencies can lead to enhanced exercise benefits within an appropriate frequency range, and different exercises have diverse effects on various muscles. Single bridge and crunches are appropriate exercise forms for lumbar-abdominal muscles.

BACKGROUND Nonspecific low back pain (NSLBP) accounts for a large proportion of low back pain cases. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of the whole-body vibration (WBV) exercise on lumbar proprioception in NSLBP patients. It was hypothesized that WBV exercise enhances lumbar proprioception. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty-two patients with NSLBP performed an exercise program 3 times a week for a total of 12 weeks of WBV. The lumbar proprioception was measured by joint position sense. Outcomes were lumbar angle deviation and visual analogue scale (VAS) score. RESULTS After the 12-week WBV exercise, lumbar flexion angle deviation was reduced from 3.65±2.26° to 1.90±1.07° (P=0.0001), and extension angle deviation was reduced from 3.06±1.85° to 1.61±0.75° (P=0.0001), significantly lower than baseline. After participating in the 12-week WBV exercise, a significant pain reduction was observed (P=0.0001). Men in the whole group (n=32) indicated significantly lower angle deviations in flexion and extension, whereas women (n=10) indicated significantly lower flexion angle deviation (P=0.037), and no significant difference was found in extension angle deviation (P=0.052). However, by subdividing the entire group (n=42) into poor and good proprioceptive groups, WBV exercise presented significant enhancement of lumbar proprioceptive ability in the poor flexion proprioception subgroup, poor extension proprioception subgroup, and good extension proprioception subgroup (each P=0.0001), but not in the subgroup with good flexion proprioceptive ability (P=0.165). CONCLUSIONS Lumbar flexion and extension proprioception as measured by joint position sense was significantly enhanced and pain was significantly reduced after 12-week WBV exercise in NSLBP patients. However, the patients with good flexion proprioceptive ability had limited proprioceptive enhancement.

OBJECTIVE: To confirm the benefits of whole-body vibration exercise for pain intensity and functional disability in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain. DESIGN: Single-blind randomized controlled trial. SETTING: Outpatient. SUBJECTS: Eighty-nine patients with non-specific chronic low back pain met the inclusion criteria, they were randomly allocated to either the intervention group (n = 45) or the control group (n = 44). INTERVENTION: The intervention group received whole-body vibration exercises three times a week for 12 weeks. The control group received general exercise protocol three times a week for 12 weeks. MAIN OUTCOMES: The primary outcome measures were pain intensity and functional disability measured by the visual analog scale scores and Oswestry Disability Index. The secondary outcome measures included lumbar joint position sense, quality of life (Short Form Health Survey 36) and overall treatment effect (Global Perceived Effect). RESULTS: A total of 84 subjects completed the 12-week study program. After 12 weeks, compared with the control group, the mean visual analog scale and Oswestry Disability Index scores decreased by additional 1 point (95% confidence interval (CI) = -1.22 to -0.78; P < 0.001), 3.81 point (95% CI, -4.98, -2.63; P < 0.001) based on adjusted analysis in the intervention group. And the intervention group provided additional beneficial effects for in terms of lumbar joint position sense (P < 0.05), quality of life (P < 0.05), and Global Perceived Effect (P = 0.012). CONCLUSION: The study demonstrated that whole-body vibration exercise could provide more benefits than general exercise for relieving pain and improving functional disability in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of surgical versus non-operative treatment on the physical function and safety of patients with lumbar disc herniation. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, EBSCO, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database were searched from initiation to 15 May 2017. METHODS: Randomized controlled trials that evaluated surgical versus non-operative treatment for patients with lumbar disc herniation were selected. The primary outcomes were pain and side-effects. Secondary outcomes were function and health-related quality of life. A random effects model was used to calculate the pooled mean difference with 95% confidence interval. RESULTS: A total of 19 articles that involved 2272 participants met the inclusion criteria. Compared with non-operative treatment, surgical treatment was more effective in lowering pain (short term: mean difference = -0.94, 95% confidence interval = -1.87 to -0.00; midterm: mean difference = -1.59, 95% confidence interval = -2.24 to -9.94), improving function (midterm: mean difference = -7.84, 95% confidence interval = -14.00 to -1.68; long term: mean difference = -12.21, 95% confidence interval = -23.90 to -0.52) and quality of life. The 36-item Short-Form Health Survey for physical functions (short term: mean difference = 6.25, 95% confidence interval = 0.43 to 12.08) and bodily pain (short term: mean difference = 5.42, 95% confidence interval = 0.40 to 10.45) was also utilized. No significant difference was observed in adverse events (mean difference = 0.82, 95% confidence interval = 0.28 to 2.38). CONCLUSION: Low-quality evidence suggested that surgical treatment is more effective than non-operative treatment in improving physical functions; no significant difference was observed in adverse events. No firm recommendation can be made due to instability of the summarized data.

OBJECTIVE: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effect of cognitive motor intervention (CMI) on gait and balance in Parkinson's disease. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Web of Science, PEDro, and China Biology Medicine disc. METHODS: We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non RCTs. Two reviewers independently evaluated articles for eligibility and quality and serially abstracted data. A standardized mean difference ± standard error and 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated for each study using Hedge's g to quantify the treatment effect. RESULTS: Nine trials with 181 subjects, four randomized controlled trials, and five single group intervention studies were included. The pooling revealed that cognitive motor intervention can improve gait speed (Hedge's g = 0.643 ± 0.191; 95% CI: 0.269 to 1.017, P = 0.001), stride time (Hedge's g = -0.536 ± 0.167; 95% CI: -0.862 to -0.209, P = 0.001), Berg Balance Scale (Hedge's g = 0.783 ± 0.289; 95% CI: 0.218 to 1.349, P = 0.007), Unipedal Stance Test (Hedge's g = 0.440 ± 0.189; 95% CI: 0.07 to 0.81, P =0.02). CONCLUSIONS: The systematic review demonstrates that cognitive motor intervention is effective for gait and balance in Parkinson's disease. However, the paper is limited by the quality of the included trials.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of Tai Chi on cardiopulmonary function and quality of life in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. DATA SOURCES: Cochrane Library, PUBMED, EMBASE, China Biology Medicine disc, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang database. METHODS: Articles on randomized controlled trials comparing Tai Chi with other treatments or no treatment were identified. A random-effects model was used to calculate the pooled mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: Fifteen articles involving 1354 participants were included. Compared with the control group, Tai Chi was more effective in improving exercise capacity on 6-minute walking distance (short term: MD = 16.02, 95% CI 2.86 to 29.17; mid term: MD = 30.90, 95% CI 6.88 to 54.93; long term: MD = 24.63, 95% CI 2.30 to 46.95), as well as pulmonary functions on forced expiratory volume in the first second (mid term: MD = 0.10; 95% CI 0.01 to 0.19), and forced vital capacity (mid term: MD = 0.20; 95% CI 0.04 to 0.36). Concerning quality of life, we found Tai Chi was better than the control group for the Chronic Respiratory Disease Questionnaire dyspnoea score (short term: MD = 0.90; 95% CI 0.51 to 1.29), fatigue score (short term: MD = 0.75; 95% CI 0.42 to 1.09), and total score (short term: MD = 1.92; 95% CI 0.54 to 3.31). CONCLUSIONS: Tai Chi may improve exercise capacity in the short, mid, and long terms. However, no significant long term differences in pulmonary function and quality of life were observed for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
