Due to the increasing harmful effects of metal(loid)s over time, it has become important in environmental studies carried out to increase environmental awareness. It is important to investigate the cumulative presence of metal(loid)s in nature, their interactions with each other and risks posed by fish consumption for human health. Total concentrations of As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn were determined in muscle and gill tissues of horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) and sardine (Sardina pilchardus). Metal analyses were carried out using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectroscopic (ICP-MS) methods. In both tissues, Fe and Zn concentrations were the highest and Cd, Cu and Pb concentrations were the lowest. The target hazard coefficient, estimated daily intake, target cancer risk, total target hazard coefficient, and hazard indices were calculated to assess the risks to an individual's health from consuming fish. Hazard index and total target hazard coefficient values calculated for each fish exceeded 1 but were very close to 1. Target cancer risk values of As and Ni were found to be 10-6 and 10-4 for Pb. These limit values indicate the need for regular monitoring of the region. In addition, the interactions between the metal(loid)s accumulated in the tissues were analyzed and a high correlation was found between As-Ni, which poses a risk to public health.

Arsenic (As), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), cadmium (Cd) and chromium (Cr) accumulations were evaluated in the gills, hepatopancreas, exoskeleton, and muscles of Pontastacus leptodactylus (crayfish) (Eschscholtz, 1823). The highest metal accumulation was observed in the gills and hepatopancreas. It was detected a negative correlation between Cr-Pb, As-Cr in the muscle tissue. All other metals were displayed positive correlations with each other in the gills, hepatopancreas, and exoskeleton. Strong positive correlations were determined between Ni-Cd and As-Pb in the gills, Ni-Cd, As-Pb and Al-Zn in the hepatopancreas, Zn-Mn and Fe-Cu in the exoskeleton, Ni-Cd, As-Pb, Zn-Mn, Al-Mn, Fe-Cu and Al-Zn in the muscle (r= 1.000). PCA and cluster analysis generally were supported the correlations observed. The correlations between divalent metals may be expressed by the role of divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) in the gathering of these metals.

In this paper the aim is to investigate the toxic effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) and is to analyze the removal of ZnONP in aqueous medium by the consortium consisted of Daphnia magna and Lemna minor. Three separate test groups are formed: L. minor ([Formula: see text]), D. magna ([Formula: see text]), and L. minor + D. magna ([Formula: see text]) and all these test groups are exposed to three different nanoparticle concentrations ([Formula: see text]). Time-dependent, concentration-dependent, and group-dependent removal efficiencies are statistically compared by non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test and statistically significant differences are observed. The optimum removal values are observed at the highest concentration [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text]and [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text] and realized at [Formula: see text] for all test groups [Formula: see text]. There is no statistically significant differences in removal at low concentrations [Formula: see text] in terms of groups but [Formula: see text] test groups are more efficient than [Formula: see text] test groups in removal of ZnONP, at [Formula: see text] concentration. Regression analysis is also performed for all prediction models. Different models are tested and it is seen that cubic models show the highest predicted values (R2). In toxicity models, R2 values are obtained at (0.892, 0.997) interval. A simple solution-phase method is used to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles. Dynamic Light Scattering and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) are used to detect the particle size of synthesized ZnO nanoparticles.
