RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical characteristics, incidence, and distribution of drug-associated muscle adverse reactions (DAMAR) in real-world inpatients, to provide valuable references for clinical medication use. METHODS: We conducted an automatic retrospective monitoring of inpatients from May 1, 2022, to April 30, 2023, to collect information on adverse drug reactions (ADR) of patients and conducted subsequent analyses. RESULTS: Among 102,430 hospitalizations, 1106 cases of DAMARs were identified, yielding an incidence of 1.08%, including 125 cases of rhabdomyolysis at an incidence of 0.12%. Seventy-five percent of the patients experienced muscle adverse reactions within 5 days after taking medication, with a median elevated creatine kinase (CK) value of 420.4 IU/L. Risk factors of DAMAR include age ≥ 65, male sex, obesity, hypertension, hepatic and renal insufficiency, and anemia. No significant correlation was observed between the duration of surgery and CK elevation, while the surgical procedure itself had an impact. The 114 drugs associated were predominantly nervous system drugs, anti-infectives for systemic use, and cardiovascular system drugs, with levofloxacin, pregabalin, and parecoxib being the most frequently associated drugs. CONCLUSION: Healthcare professionals should be vigilant with patients exhibiting the identified risk factors. Monitoring creatine kinase and related indices when using myotoxic drugs is crucial to preventing serious adverse reactions, ultimately preserving patients' quality of life.

RESUMO

As a major challenge to global food security, soil salinity is an important abiotic stress factor that seriously affects the crop growth and yield. In this study, the mechanism of salt resistance of Pantoea jilinensis D25 and its improving effect on salt tolerance of tomato were explored with salt resistance-related genes identified in strain D25 by genomic sequencing. The results showed that in comparison with the treatment of NaCl, strain D25 significantly increased the fresh weight, shoot length, root length, and chlorophyll content of tomato under salt stress by 46.7%, 20%, 42.4%, and 44.2%, respectively, with increased absorptions of various macronutrients and micronutrients and decreased accumulation of Na+. The activities of defense enzymes (peroxidase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, and polyphenol oxidase) were enhanced, while the content of malondialdehyde was decreased. The results of quantitative real-time PCR analysis showed that the expressions of genes (SlSOS1, SlNHX1, SlHKT1.1, SlSOD1, SlAPX2, SlAOS, SlPin II, Solyc08g066270.1, Solyc03g083420.2 and SlGA20ox1) related to ion transporters, antioxidant machinery, key defense, serine/threonine protein kinase synthesis, and gibberellin (GA) signal protein were up-regulated and were the highest in the treatment of both NaCl and strain D25. The activities of enzymes (dehydrogenase, urease, invertase, and catalase activities) related to soil fertility were enhanced. The results of 16S rRNA sequencing showed that soil microbial diversity and the abundance of probiotics (e.g., Acidibacter, Limnobacter, and Romboutsia) were significantly increased. Our study provided strong experimental evidence to support the agricultural application of strain D25 in the promotion of growth in crops.

RESUMO

Short tandem repeat (STR) automatic typing technology is extensively used in forensic laboratories with commercial kits, in rare cases genotyping misinterpretations or mislabeling may occur due to unexpected rare alleles. This study refers to the investigation of several rare alleles observed from routine cases. Besides cross-kit verification with Goldeneye 25A (Beijing PeopleSpot Inc, China) and Huaxia platinum (Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA) kits, the next-generation sequencing technology by MiSeq FGx System (Illumina, USA) was applied to further validation. To solve the inconsistent outcomes reached by the above mentioned approaches at D2S441 locus, single gene amplification, gene cloning, and genetic sequencing was also performed. As a result, five rare alleles were detected. Two novel alleles of allele 3 at the D13S317 locus and allele 5 at the D2S441 locus were found; three previously reported alleles of allele 9 at D1S1656 locus, allele 19 at Penta D locus, and allele 28 at D12S391 locus in STRBase were initially supplemented with sequence information. We, therefore, propose that such uncommon observations with rare events should be carefully investigated and interpreted.

RESUMO

A scheme of fiber Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity refractive index (RI) demodulation named under-sampled length spectrum retrieval (ULSR) is proposed. Unlike the wavelength spectrum method, ULSR can be used for physical quantity detection with just a monochromatic laser and photodetectors, avoiding the need for wideband lasers or expensive infrared spectrometers. Eight F-P cavities of different lengths were fabricated to sample the cavity length spectrum, and then the obtained under-sampled length spectrum was used to demodulate the RI of F-P cavity fillings. It was demonstrated that the ULSR system can achieve an index measurement accuracy of 1 × 10-4 in the glucose solution index range of 1.3294-1.3746 at wavelength λ = 1.55 µm. An index demodulation with higher accuracy and wider range is expected when more than 8 F-P cavities are used. The proposed scheme, with advantages of low system complexity, low cost, high reliability, high detecting accuracy, and wide detecting range, holds great promise for facilitating the wide application of F-P cavity sensors. Additionally, ULSR liberates wavelength freedom, making it a strong candidate for multiplexed sensing based on wavelength division multiplexing.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the occurrence characteristics, clinical manifestations, medication distribution, and incidence of drug-induced arrhythmias in a real-world inpatient population. METHODS: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria as well as the ADR evaluation criteria, we retrospectively evaluated hospitalized patients in 2019 using the arrhythmia module of the Adverse Drug Event Active Surveillance and Assessment System-II (ADE-ASAS-II). A detailed analysis was performed on the demographic data, ADR manifestations, and medication distribution of 2097 patients with drug-induced arrhythmias and QT interval prolongation. RESULTS: Of the 167,546 hospitalized patients, there were 1809 cases of drug-induced arrhythmias, with an incidence of 1.08%. The ADRs in 45.35% of positive patients occurred within 3 days after medication administration, and 46.73% of the patients were 65 years old or older. The predominant ADRs identified in this study were extrasystole, tachycardia, and QT interval prolongation, of which the incidence was 0.20%. Levofloxacin was the most involved drug, and levofloxacin-associated rates of incidence of arrhythmia and QT interval prolongation were 1.24% and 0.44%, respectively. The risk factors for drug-induced arrhythmias were male sex, advanced age, emaciation, obesity, and underlying illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, cerebrovascular diseases, and hepatic and renal inadequacy (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The incidence of drug-induced arrhythmias was in the range of common, while QTc interval prolongation was occasional. It is necessary to pay attention to patients with risk factors.

RESUMO

AIMS: Soybean root rot, caused by Fusarium oxysporum, leads to significant economic and financial losses to the soybean processing industry globally. In the study, we aimed to explore a biocontrol agent to combat F. oxysporum infection in soybean. METHODS AND RESULTS: From soybean rhizosphere soil, 48 strains were isolated. Among them, the strain DR11 exhibited the highest inhibition rate of 72.27%. Morphological, physiological, biochemical, and 16S rDNA identification revealed that the strain DR11 was Klebsiella grimontii DR11. Strain DR11 could inhibit the growth of F. oxysporum and spore formation and alter the mycelial morphology. At 5.0 × 106 CFU mL-1, pH 7, and 30°C, it exhibited the highest inhibitory rate (72.27%). Moreover, it could decrease the activity of cell-wall-degrading enzymes of F. oxysporum. Simultaneously, the activities of defense-related enzymes and content of malondialdehyde in soybean plants were increased after treatment with strain DR11. In addition, strain DR11 could form aggregates to form biofilm and adsorb on the surface of soybean roots. It inhibited F. oxysporum growth on soybean seedlings, with an inhibitory effect of 62.71%. CONCLUSION: Klebsiella grimontii DR11 had a strong inhibitory effect on F. oxysporum and could be used as a biocontrol agent to combat F. oxysporum infection in soybean.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: X-chromosomal short tandem repeats (X-STRs) are a useful supplementary approach to analysing autosomal markers in forensics and kinship studies; such markers are not well-characterised in many populations. AIM: To investigate population genetic polymorphism and forensic characterisation of 16 X-STRs in the Jining Han population, and analyse genetic relationships with other Chinese populations. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Allele frequencies for 16 X-STR loci were obtained from a sample set of 527 unrelated individuals from the Jining Han population. Population genetic analyses of Jining Han and another 10 reference populations were conducted using phylogenetic tree, principal component analysis and multidimensional scaling. RESULTS: We detected 149 alleles, with frequencies ranging from 0.0013 to 0.8242. The combined powers of discrimination in males and females were 0.999999997194774 and 0.999999999999995, respectively. The combined mean exclusion change (MEC)Krüger, MECKishida, MECDesmarais, and MECDesmarais Duos values were 0.999974632649096, 0.999999976997582, 0.999999977013201, and 0.999993755768423, respectively. We detected relatively high genetic homogeneity in populations with similar ethnic or geographic origins, and a close relationship between the Jining Han and Beijing Han populations. CONCLUSIONS: The present findings indicate that the 16 X-STR loci examined are highly polymorphic in the Han population of Jining, providing useful information for forensic science and population genetics studies.

RESUMO

Developmental genetic studies of Antirrhinum majus demonstrated that two transcription factors from the MYB gene family, RADIALIS (RAD) and DIVIRICATA (DIV), interact through antagonism to regulate floral dorsoventral asymmetry. Interestingly, similar antagonistic interaction found among proteins of FSM1 (RAD-like) and MYBI (DIV-like) in Solanum lycopersicum is involved in fruit development. Here, we report the reconstruction of the phylogeny of I-box-like and R-R-type clades, where RAD- and DIV-like genes belong, respectively. We also examined the homology of these antagonistic MYB proteins using these phylogenies. The results show that there are likely three paralogs of RAD-/I-box-like genes, RAD1, RAD2, and RAD3, which originated in the common ancestor of the core eudicots. In contrast, R-R-type sequences fall into two major clades, RR1 and RR2, the result of gene duplication in the common ancestor of both monocots and dicots. RR1 was divided into clades RR1A, RR1B, and RR1C, while RR2 was divided into clades RR2A/DIV1, RR2B/DIV2, and RR2C/DIV3. We demonstrate that among similar antagonistic interactions in An. Majus and So. lycopersicum, RAD-like genes originate from the RAD2 clade, while DIV-like genes originate from distantly related paralogs of the R-R-type lineage. The phylogenetic analyses of these two MYB clades lay the foundation for future comparative studies including testing the evolution of the antagonistic relationship of proteins.

RESUMO

To investigate the effects of Liu Tea extracts(LTE) on proliferation, apoptosis and drug sensitivity of drug-resistant gastric cancer cell BGC823/5-FU. MTT assay was used to analyze effect of LTE on cell growth and sensitivity chemotherapeutic drugs, and synergistic effect of the combination of LTE with 5-FU on BGC823/5-FU cells. Combination index (CI) was calculated by CompuSyn. Cell apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry (FCM). Protein expressions of P-gp, Bcl-2, Bax and Caspase-3 (17KD) were detected by Western blot at different concentrations of LTE in BGC823/5-FU cells (100, 200, 400 mg•L⁻¹). The results showed that LTE had an inhibitory effect on growth of BGC823/5-FU cell in a dose-time-dependent manner and significantly reduced IC50 of 5-FU, CDDP, PTX and ADM to BGC823/5-FU cells(P<0.05), indicating it could reverse tolerance of drug resistant cells to chemotherapeutic drugs, with reversion multiples of 2.35, 1.68, 1.96, 0.52. The combination of LTE with 5-FU had positive synergistic effect on the BGC-823 cell line. FCM assay suggested that LTE could induce BGC823/5-FU apoptosis. The apoptosis rate was up to 46.2% when the cells were treated with 800 mg•L⁻¹ LTE after 24 h(P<0.01). According to the protein detection results, with the increase in concentration of LTE, the protein expression of Bcl-2 was gradually decreased(P<0.01), the expression of Bax and Caspase-3 were extremely increased(P<0.01), with statistical significance in difference(P<0.01) but no difference in the expression of P-gp between experiment group and control group. LTE can inhibit the growth of drug-resistant human gastric cancer cell BGC823/5-FU and reverse its chemotherapeutic tolerance to some extent. Inhibition of antiapoptotic proteins, activation of proapoptotic proteins and induction of apoptosis of resistant cells may be its main mechanisms.

RESUMO

In this study, a combination of Serratia nematophila L2 and Bacillus velezensis W24 was used to biocontrol Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. When the mixed ratio of L2 to W24 was 1:1, the inhibition rate on the growth of S. sclerotiorum was 88.1 %. To gain a large number of bacteria, the culture medium and conditions were optimized. When the medium formula involved molasses (8.890 g/L), soy peptone (6.826 g/L), and NaCl (6.865 g/L), and the culture conditions were 32 °C, inoculum 4%, rotation speed 200 rpm, and pH 7, the maximum amounts of bacterial cells obtained. In order to prepare microcapsules, spray drying conditions were optimized. These conditions included the soluble starch concentration of 30 g/100 mL, the inlet air temperature of 160 °C, and the feed flow rate of 450 mL/h. Under these optimized conditions to prepare microcapsules, the mixed strain (L2 and W24) exhibited a survival rate of 93.9 ± 0.9% and a viable bacterial count of 6.4 × 1012 cfu/g. In addition, microcapsules (GW24Ms) which contained strains L2 and W24 had good storage stability. In the pot experiment, GW24Ms could effectively reduce the disease of soybean plants and the control effect was 88.4%. Thus, the microbial agent represents a promising biocontrol solution for managing Sclerotinia in soybean.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Automatic monitoring and assessment are increasingly employed in drug safety evaluations using hospital information system data. The increasing concern about granisetron-related arrhythmias requires real-world studies to improve our understanding of its safety. AIM: This study aimed to analyze the incidence, clinical characteristics, and risk factors of granisetron-related arrhythmias in hospitalized patients using real-world data obtained from the Adverse Drug Event Active Surveillance and Assessment System-II (ADE-ASAS-II) and concurrently aimed to develop and validate a nomogram to predict the occurrence of arrhythmias. METHOD: Retrospective automatic monitoring of inpatients using granisetron was conducted in a Chinese hospital from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2021, to determine the incidence of arrhythmias using ADE-ASAS- II. Propensity score matching was used to balance confounders and analyze clinical characteristics. Based on risk factors identified through logistic regression analysis, a prediction nomogram was established and internally validated using the Bootstrap method. RESULTS: Arrhythmias occurred in 178 of 72,508 cases taking granisetron with an incidence of 0.3%. Independent risk factors for granisetron-related arrhythmias included medication duration, comorbid cardiovascular disease, concomitant use of other 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 receptor antagonists, alanine aminotransferase > 40 U/L, and blood urea nitrogen > 7.5 mmol/L. The nomogram demonstrated good differentiation and calibration, with enhanced clinical benefit observed when the risk threshold ranged from 0.10 to 0.82. CONCLUSION: The nomogram, based on the five identified independent risk factors, may be valuable in predicting the risk of granisetron-related arrhythmias in the administered population, offering significant clinical applications.

RESUMO

The pedigree likelihood ratio (LR) can be used for determining kinship in the forensic kinship testing. LR can be obtained by analyzing the DNA data of Short tandem repeat (STR) and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) loci. With the advancement of biotechnology, increasing number of genetic markers have been identified, thereby expanding the pedigree range of kinship testing. Moreover, some of the loci are physically closer to each other and genetic linkage between loci is inevitable. LRs can be calculated by accounting for linkage or ignoring linkage (LRlinkage and LRignore, respectively). GeneVisa is a software for kinship testing (www.genevisa.net) and adopts the Lander-Green algorithm to deal with genetic linkage. Herein, we used the simulation program of the software GeneVisa to investigate the effects of genetic linkage on 1st-degree, 2nd-degree, and 3rd-degree kinship testing. We used this software to simulate LRlinkage and LRignore values based on 43 STRs and 134 SNPs in commercial kits by using the allele frequency rate and genetic distance data of the European population. The effects of linkage on LR distribution and LRs of routine cases were investigated by comparing the LRlinkage values with the LRignore values. Our results revealed that the linkage effect on LR distributions is small, but the effect on LRs of routine cases may be large. Moreover, the results indicated that the discriminatory power of genetic markers for kinship testing can be improved by accounting for linkage.

RESUMO

Tomato gray mold, caused by Botrytis cinerea, is an important disease in tomato. Pantoea jilinensis D25, isolated form tomato rhizosphere soil, can prevent B. cinerea infection in tomato. To determine the underlying biocontrol mechanism, the transcriptome of P. jilinensis D25 was assessed. Differential expression analysis revealed that 941 genes were upregulated and 997 genes were downregulated. Through transcriptome analysis, the suhB gene was knocked out. ΔPj-suhB exhibited lower swimming motility and colonization abilities than strain D25. After 4 days of co-cultivation, ΔPj-suhB could reduce the colony diameter, mycelial weight, and spore production of B. cinerea with the inhibitory rates of 31.72 %, 39.62 %, and 47.42 %, respectively, compared with control. However, the inhibitory rates of strain D25 were 52.91 %, 60.09 %, and 76.85 %, respectively, compared with control. Strain D25 could significantly downregulate pathogenesis-related genes in B. cinerea, whereas the expression level of these genes in B. cinerea was higher after treatment with ΔPj-suhB than after that with strain D25. In vitro experiments revealed that the lesion area and disease control efficacy were 1.520 and 0.038 cm2 and 68.7 % and 99.0 %, respectively, after ΔPj-suhB and strain D25 treatments. Pot experiments revealed that ΔPj-suhB and strain D25 could prevent tomato plants from B. cinerea infection with the disease reduction rate of 37.5 % and 75.0 %, respectively. Though the activities of defense-related enzymes and expression level of defense related genes in tomato plants were increased under ΔPj-suhB treatment, these effects were higher after strain D25 treatment. Thus, these results demonstrated that suhB was the key gene in strain D25 underlying its biocontrol effect and mobility.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The use of cefoperazone/sulbactam (CPZ/SAM) could commonly cause vitamin K-dependent coagulation disorders and even hemorrhage sometimes. However, there is a lack of prediction tools estimating the risk for this. This study aimed at developing and internally validating a model for predicting CPZ/SAM-associated coagulation disorders in Chinese inpatients. METHODS: A case-control study was conducted in 11,092 adult inpatients admitted to a Chinese general hospital between 2020 and 2021 and treated with CPZ/SAM. Patients with CPZ/SAM-associated coagulation disorders were identified through the Adverse Drug Events Active Surveillance and Assessment System-II and subsequent manual evaluation. Controls were selected from eligible patients who didn't develop coagulation disorders after CPZ/SAM therapy, with a 1:1 propensity score matching. The final predictors were obtained by univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses. Internal validation and calibration for the model were performed using 1000 bootstrap resamplings. RESULTS: 258 patients were identified as CPZ/SAM-associated coagulation disorders in 2184 patients eligible for inclusions and exclusions and the incidence was 11.8%. A final population of 252 cases and 252 controls was included for model development and validation. Malnutrition (OR = 2.41 (1.56-3.77)), history of recent bleeding (OR = 1.95 (1.32-2.90)), treatment duration (OR = 1.10 (1.07-1.14)), combination with carbapenems (OR = 4.43 (1.85-11.88)), and serum creatinine (OR = 1.01 (1.00-1.01)) were identified as final predictors. The model showed good discrimination, calibration, and clinical practicality, with the validated area under the receiver operating characteristic curve being 0.723 (0.683-0.770). CONCLUSIONS: The model with good performance quantifies the risk for CPZ/SAM-associated coagulation disorders, and may support individual assessment and interventions to mitigate the risk after external validation.

RESUMO

The degradation of sodium alginate by human gut microbiota was found to be retarded via calcium cross-linking in our previous study. We hypothesized that the guluronic acid block (GB) on the alginate molecule might be the key structural region affecting alginate degradation by the gut microbiota when cross-linked with calcium. This study aims to prove this hypothesis by studying the structural features of the cross-linked GB on its in vitro fecal fermentation behaviors concerning the aspects of total carbohydrate contents, monosaccharide contents, short-chain fatty acids production, calcium state variations, and structural variations. Herein, GB isolated from sodium alginate was cross-linked under ranges of molar ratios of [Ca2+]/[-COOH] that further restricted the degradation by gut microbiota similar to the cross-linked alginates. First, total carbohydrate contents, short-chain fatty acids production, monosaccharides contents, and calcium state analyses confirmed that the degradation of GB by gut microbiota was restricted by calcium cross-linking. Furthermore, the tracking analysis of structural variations during in vitro fermentation revealed that the "granules" structure could further restrict degradation by the gut microbiota, leaving more cross-linked GB fragments surviving in comparison to the "networks" structure. In addition, Bacteroides xylanisolvens showed a significant positive correlation to the "cross-linking porosity (R = 0.825, p < 0.001), which supported our previous findings on fermentation behaviors of cross-linked alginate. Together, guluronic acid blocks are the key structural regions that retard the degradation of sodium alginate by the gut microbiota when cross-linked with calcium.

RESUMO

Acute altitude reaction is a stress response of organism to special altitude environmental factors such as hypoxia, low pressure, cold, dry and strong ultraviolet. As it is the most incident disease in high altitude areas, its prevention remains a problem to be solved. In China, the traditional Chinese (Tibetan) medicines have been recognized as an effective means of preventing and treating acute altitude sicknesses. Some single-recipe or compound traditional Chinese (Tibetan) medicines have been proved to be effective for acute altitude sicknesses. In this article, we will describe traditional Chinese (Tibetan) medicines of different types with efficacy in prevention and treatment of altitude sicknesses.

RESUMO

ß-Carotene is an indispensable additive in beverage, cosmetic, feed, and pharmaceutical production. The fermentation industry annually generates abundant waste mycelia from Trichoderma reesei (T. reesei), a pivotal industrial strain for cellulase and heterologous protein production. In this study, we constructed a T. reesei cell factory for ß-carotene production for the first time. Four key enzymes, CarRP, CarB, GGS1/CrtE, and HMG1, were overexpressed in T. reesei. The concentrations of medium components, including tryptone and glucose, were optimized. The modified strain accumulated ß-carotene at a titer of 218.8 mg/L in flask culture. We achieved cellulase production (FPase, 22.33 IU/mL) with the concomitant production of ß-carotene (286.63 mg/L) from T. reesei in a jar. Overall, this study offers a novel and unique approach to address the costly waste mycelium management process using T. reesei industrial strains that simultaneously produce proteins and carotenoids.

RESUMO

Bacillus mojavensis D50, a biocontrol strain, is used to prevent and treat the fungal plant pathogen Botrytis cinerea. Bacillus mojavensis D50's biofilms can affect its colonization; thus, the effects of different metal ions and culture conditions on biofilm formation were determined in this study. The results of medium optimization showed that Ca2+ had the best ability to promote biofilm formation. The optimal medium composition for the formation of biofilms contained tryptone (10 g/L), CaCl2 (5.14 g/L), and yeast extract (5.0 g/L), and the optimal fermentation conditions included pH 7, a temperature of 31.4 °C, and a culture time of 51.8 h. We found that the antifungal activity and abilities to form biofilms and colonize roots were improved after optimization. In addition, the levels of expression of the genes luxS, SinR, FlhA, and tasA were up-regulated by 37.56-, 2.87-, 12.46-, and 6.22-fold, respectively. The soil enzymatic activities which related biocontrol-related enzymes were the highest when the soil was treated by strain D50 after optimization. In vivo biocontrol assays indicated that the biocontrol effect of strain D50 after optimization was improved.

RESUMO

Hybrid reinforced sodium silicate/polyurethane (SS/PU) composites mainly derived from low-cost SS and polyisocyanate are produced by a one-step method based on the addition of 3-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane (CTS). The wettability of SS on PU substrate surface is much improved as CTS content increases from 0.0 to 3.5 wt%. Furthermore, with 2.5 wt% of CTS optimal addition, the fracture surface morphology and elemental composition of the resulting SS/PU composites are characterized, as well as mechanical properties, chemical structure and thermal properties. The results indicate that the CTS forms multiple physical and chemical interactions with the SS/PU composites to induce an optimized organic-inorganic hybrid network structure thus achieving simultaneous improvement of compressive strength, flexural strength, flexural modulus and fracture toughness of the SS/PU composites, with the improvement of 12.9%, 6.6%, 17.5% and 9.7%, respectively. Moreover, a reasonable mechanism explanation for CTS modified SS/PU composites is confirmed. Additionally, the high interface areas of the organic-inorganic phase and the active crosslinking effect of the CTS are the main factors to determine the curing process of the SS/PU composites.

RESUMO

Mn-90.4 wt% Sb alloy specimens were solidified under both uniform magnetic field and magnetic field gradient conditions. The solidification behavior was examined to elucidate the effects of high magnetic fields on the solidified structure evolution of this hypoeutectic alloy. The macrostructures on the longitudinal section of the alloys were investigated by optical microscopy and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The volume fraction of primary MnSb phases and the interrod spacing of the eutectic were measured by metallographic analysis. It was found that the segregation of the primary MnSb particles at the certain regions of the specimens occurred under the influence of high magnetic field gradients. The MnSb phases obtained under magnetic fields were oriented with their (h0 l) planes along the direction of the magnetic field. Both the volume fraction of primary MnSb phases and the interrod spacing of the eutectic were decreased upon the application of the high magnetic fields.
