RESUMO

There is considerable heterogeneity in immunological parameters between individuals, but its sources are largely unknown. To assess the relative contribution of heritable versus non-heritable factors, we have performed a systems-level analysis of 210 healthy twins between 8 and 82 years of age. We measured 204 different parameters, including cell population frequencies, cytokine responses, and serum proteins, and found that 77% of these are dominated (>50% of variance) and 58% almost completely determined (>80% of variance) by non-heritable influences. In addition, some of these parameters become more variable with age, suggesting the cumulative influence of environmental exposure. Similarly, the serological responses to seasonal influenza vaccination are also determined largely by non-heritable factors, likely due to repeated exposure to different strains. Lastly, in MZ twins discordant for cytomegalovirus infection, more than half of all parameters are affected. These results highlight the largely reactive and adaptive nature of the immune system in healthy individuals.

In this study, we investigated the potential involvement of TNFSF9 in reperfusion injury associated with ferroptosis in acute ischaemic stroke patients, mouse models and BV2 microglia. We first examined TNFSF9 changes in peripheral blood from stroke patients with successful reperfusion, and constructed oxygen-glucose deprivation-reperfusion (OGD-R) on BV2 microglia, oxygen-glucose deprivation for 6 h followed by reoxygenation and re-glucose for 24 h, and appropriate over-expression or knockdown of TNFSF9 manipulation on BV2 cells and found that in the case of BV2 cells encountering OGD-R over-expression of TNFSF9 resulted in increased BV2 apoptosis. Still, the knockdown of TNFSF9 ameliorated apoptosis and ferroptosis. In an in vivo experiment, we constructed TNFSF9 over-expression or knockout mice by intracerebral injection of TNFSF9-OE or sh-TNFSF9 adenovirus. We performed the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model on day four, 24 h after ligation of the proximal artery, for half an hour to recanalize. As luck would have it, over-expression of TNFSF9 resulted in increased brain infarct volumes, neurological function scores and abnormalities in TNFSF9-related TRAF1 and ferroptosis-related pathways, but knockdown of TNFSF9 improved brain infarcts in mice as well as reversing TNFSF9-related signalling pathways. In conclusion, our data provide the first evidence that TNFSF9 triggers microglia activation by activating the ferroptosis signalling pathway following ischaemic stroke, leading to brain injury and neurological deficits.

BACKGROUND: Suaeda australis is one of typical halophyte owing to high levels of salt tolerance. In addition, the bZIP gene family assumes pivotal functions in response to salt stress. However, there are little reports available regarding the bZIP gene family in S. australis. RESULTS: In this study, we successfully screened 44 bZIP genes within S. australis genome. Subsequently, we conducted an extensive analysis, encompassing investigations into chromosome location, gene structure, phylogenetic relationship, promoter region, conserved motif, and gene expression profile. The 44 bZIP genes were categorized into 12 distinct groups, exhibiting an uneven distribution among the 9 chromosomes of S. australis chromosomes, but one member (Sau23745) was mapped on unanchored scaffolds. Examination of cis-regulatory elements revealed that bZIP promoters were closely related to anaerobic induction, transcription start, and light responsiveness. Comparative transcriptome analysis between ST1 and ST2 samples identified 2,434 DEGs, which were significantly enriched in some primary biological pathways related to salt response-regulating signaling based on GO and KEGG enrichment analysis. Expression patterns analyses clearly discovered the role of several differently expressed SabZIPs, including Sau08107, Sau08911, Sau11415, Sau16575, and Sau19276, which showed higher expression levels in higher salt concentration than low concentration and a response to salt stress. These expression patterns were corroborated through RT-qPCR analysis. The six differentially expressed SabZIP genes, all localized in the nucleus, exhibited positive regulation involved in the salt stress response. SabZIP14, SabZIP26, and SabZIP36 proteins could bind to the promoter region of downstream salt stress-related genes and activate their expressions. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings offer valuable insights into the evolutionary trajectory of the bZIP gene family in S. australis and shed light on their roles in responding to salt stress. In addition to fundamental genomic information, these results would serve as a foundational framework for future investigations into the regulation of salt stress responses in S. australis.

The diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella), a major threat to crucifers across the globe, has developed resistance against the majority of insecticides enhancing the need for alternate control measures against this pest. Recently cyclosporin C, a secondary metabolite produced by the insect pathogenic fungus Purpeocillium lilacinum, has been reported to induce lethal and sub-lethal effects against P. xylostella. To date, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of interaction between cyclosporin C and P. xylostella immune systems. This study reports the transcriptome-based immune response of P. xylostella to cyclosprin C treatment. Our results showed differential expression of 322, 97, and 504 differentially expressed genes (DEGS) in P. xylostella treated with cyclosporin C compared to control 24, 48, and 72 h post-treatment, respectively. Thirteen DEGs were commonly expressed at different time intervals in P. xylostella larvae treated with cyclosporin C compared to control. Cyclosporin C treatment induced the down-regulated expression of majority of immune-related genes related to pattern recognition responses, signal modulation, Toll and IMD pathways, antimicrobial peptides and antioxidant responses confirming the ability to suppress immune response of P. xylostella. These results will further improve our knowledge of the infection mechanism and complex biochemical processes involved in interaction between cyclosporin C and insect immune systems.

Objective: To investigate the value of the combined test of seven blood coagulation indexes, lipids and platelet agglutination on the evaluation of the hypercoagulable state of blood in parturient women. Methods: This is a retrospective study. Total 50 high risk parturient women who underwent an antenatal examination in Baoding Maternal and Child Health Hospital from June 2021 to January 2023 were selected as the observation group, while 50 normal parturient women who underwent antenatal examination without comorbidities and complications were randomly collected in a ratio of 1:1 as the control group. All subjects had venous blood drawn for testing of seven blood coagulation indexes, lipids and platelet agglutination before delivery, and their general data were recorded. Results: The activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT) in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, while thrombin time(TT) and D-dimer(DD) were both higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences(p<0.05); total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) in the observation group were both higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (p<0.05); adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and arachidonic acid (AA) in the observation group were both higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (p<0.05). Moreover, the overall incidence of adverse pregnancy was higher in the observation group than in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusions: The combined test of seven blood coagulation indexes, lipids and platelet agglutination results in excellent performance in predicting and judging the presence or absence of the hypercoagulable state of blood in parturient women, with the combination of APTT+TT+DD+TG+ADP+AA being the preferred test.

BACKGROUND: Genetic diversity and heterogeneous genomic signatures in marine fish populations may result from selection pressures driven by the strong effects of environmental change. Nearshore fishes are often exposed to complex environments and human activities, especially those with small ranges. However, studies on genetic diversity and population selection signals in these species have mostly been based on a relatively small number of genetic markers. As a newly recorded species of Sillaginidae, the population genetics and genomic selection signals of Sillago sinica are fragmented or even absent. RESULTS: To address this theoretical gap, we performed whole-genome resequencing of 43 S. sinica individuals from Dongying (DY), Qingdao (QD) and Wenzhou (WZ) populations and obtained 4,878,771 high-quality SNPs. Population genetic analysis showed that the genetic diversity of S. sinica populations was low, but the genetic diversity of the WZ population was higher than that of the other two populations. Interestingly, the three populations were not strictly clustered within the group defined by their sampling location but showed an obvious geographic structure signal from the warm temperate to the subtropics. With further analysis, warm-temperate populations exhibited strong selection signals in genomic regions related to nervous system development, sensory function and immune function. However, subtropical populations showed more selective signalling for environmental tolerance and stress signal transduction. CONCLUSIONS: Genome-wide SNPs provide high-quality data to support genetic studies and localization of selection signals in S. sinica populations. The reduction in genetic diversity may be related to the bottleneck effect. Considering that low genetic diversity leads to reduced environmental adaptability, conservation efforts and genetic diversity monitoring of this species should be increased in the future. Differences in genomic selection signals between warm temperate and subtropical populations may be related to human activities and changes in environmental complexity. This study deepened the understanding of population genetics and genomic selection signatures in nearshore fishes and provided a theoretical basis for exploring the potential mechanisms of genomic variation in marine fishes driven by environmental selection pressures.

Burbot (Lota lota), a fish species of economic and ecological significance found across northern hemisphere freshwater ecosystems, was the focus of this study. We characterized 19 Toll-like receptor (TLR) genes in burbot, tracing their expression patterns following pathogen exposure. TLR genes, crucial to the innate immune system, including TLR13-1/2/3, TLR2/2-2/2-3/2-4/2-5, and TLR22a/22b/22c/22d, were discovered to be tandemly repeated, signifying an evolution in the fish's immune system. Notably, different TLR subfamilies displayed tissue-specific expressions, with TLR1 primarily in spleen and head kidney, TLR13 in head kidney, trunk kidney, and heart, TLR22 in trunk kidney and liver, and TLR3 and TLR9 predominantly in spleen and head kidney, but also in trunk kidney. Further, we investigated the response of TLR genes in burbot to pathogen exposure using qRT-PCR. This involved measuring mRNA expressions of identified TLR genes in spleen and liver tissues after injecting Poly(I:C) to simulate a double-stranded RNA viral infection. The results revealed a time and tissue-specific expression pattern. Specifically, LoTLR3 reached peak expression in the spleen 12 h post-injection, declining thereafter, while TLR2 subfamily members only began expressing after 24 h. In the liver, activation of the TLR3-IRF7 and TLR3-IRF3 signaling pathways was noted. Integrating these results with transcriptomic data illuminated the pivotal role of TLR genes in the burbot's immune response. Such findings are vital in shaping future disease prevention and treatment strategies.

The yellow drum (Nibea albiflora) is a marine teleost fish with strong disease resistance, yet the understanding of its immune response and key functional genes is fragmented. Here, RNA-Seq was used to investigate the regulation pathways and genes involved in the immune response to infection with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly (I:C)) on the spleen of the yellow drum. There were fewer differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the LPS-infected treatment group at either 6 or 48 h. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis showed that these DEGs were mainly significantly enriched in c5-branching dibasic acid metabolic and complement and coagulation cascades pathways. The yellow drum responded more strongly to poly (I:C) infection, with 185 and 521 DEGs obtained under 6 and 48 h treatments, respectively. These DEGs were significantly enriched in the Toll-like receptor signaling pathway, RIG-I-like receptor signaling pathway, Jak-STAT signaling pathway, NOD-like signaling pathway, and cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction. The key functional genes in these pathways played important roles in the immune response and maintenance of immune system homeostasis in the yellow drum. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) revealed several important hub genes. Although the functions of some genes have not been confirmed, our study still provides significant information for further investigation of the immune system of the yellow drum.

Teleosts have a unique immune system because their head kidney (HK) and trunk kidney (TK) are sites for hematopoiesis. However, the immune functions of the HK and TKs require further elucidation in yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco). In the present study, imprints of the HK and TK were examined using the Wright's-Giemsa staining method. Morphological characteristics of the blood cell lineages revealed that the HK and TK were hematopoietic organs. To explore its immune function, transcriptome sequencing was performed after infection with Aeromonas hydrophila. A total of 1139 genes showed significant alterations in their expression in the kidney; these genes included 737 upregulated and 402 downregulated genes. Furthermore, 1117 differentially expressed genes were observed in the HK, which included 784 upregulated and 333 downregulated genes. Both organs showed 357 upregulated genes and 85 downregulated genes. Some immune-related genes were only expressed in the TK, such as ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX58, the gene encoding the immunoglobulin heavy chain and light chain. The immune responses in the HK and TK were differential and the TK played a critical role in the mechanism underlying the immune response. The purpose of the present study was to facilitate the elucidation of the immune defense mechanism of yellow catfish and other teleosts.

Toll-like receptor (TLR) is a cluster of type I transmembrane proteins that plays a role in innate immunity. Based on the marbled rockfish (Sebastiscus marmoratus) genome database, this study used bioinformatics methods to identify and analyze its TLR gene family members. The results showed that there were 11 TLR gene family members in Sebastiscus marmoratus (SmaTLR), which could be divided into five different subfamilies. The number of amino acids encoded by the Smatlr genes ranged from 637 to 1206. The physicochemical properties of the encoded proteins of different members were also computed. The results of protein structure prediction, phylogenetic relation, and motif analysis showed that the structure and function of the SmaTLRs were relatively conserved. Quantitative Real-Time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis revealed the expression patterns of SmaTLRs in the gill, liver, spleen, head kidney, kidney, and intestine. SmaTLRs were widely detected in the tested tissues, and they tended to be expressed higher in immune-related tissues. After polyriboinosinic polyribocytidylic acid (poly(I:C)) challenge, SmaTLR14, SmaTLR3, SmaTLR5S, SmaTLR7, and SmaTLR22 were significantly upregulated in the spleen or liver. The results of this study will help to understand the status of TLR gene family members of marbled rockfish and provide a basis for further study of the functional analysis of this gene family.

Poly (I:C) can work as an immunostimulant and a viral vaccine; however, its functional mechanism in aquatic animals needs to be further investigated. In this study, comparative transcriptomic analyses were performed to investigate the effects of poly (I:C) on Argyrosomus japonicus at 12 h and 48 h postinjection. A total of 194 and 294 differentially expressed genes were obtained in the liver and spleen, respectively. At 12 h, poly (I:C) injection could significantly influence the function of the metabolism-related pathways and immune-related pathways in the liver through the upregulation of the genes GST, LPIN, FOXO1, CYP24A1, ECM1, and SGK1, and the downregulation of the genes IL-1ß, CXC19, TNFAIP3, and IRF1. At 48 h, poly (I:C) could enhance the liver energy metabolism by upregulating the genes TXNRD and ECM1, while it also induced some injury in the cells with the downregulation of the genes HBA and CYP24A1. In the spleen, poly (I:C) could regulate the fish immunity and inflammatory response by upregulating the genes DDIT4, C3, EFNA, and MNK, and by downregulating the genes ABCA1, SORT1, TNF, TLR2, IL8, and MHCII at 12 h, and at 48 h, the poly (I:C) had a similar influence as that in the liver. Intersection analyses demonstrated that CYP24A1 and ECM1 were the main functional genes that contributed to the health of the liver. Ten and four genes participated in maintaining the health of the two tissues after 12 h and 48 h, respectively. In summary, our results provided a new insight into ploy (I:C) application in A. japonicus, and it also helped us to better understand the fish response mechanism to the viral vaccine injection.

BACKGROUND: Understanding the genetic structure and local adaptive evolutionary mechanisms of marine organisms is crucial for the management of biological resources. As the ecologically and commercially important small-sized shallow-sea fish, Collichthys lucidus plays a vital role in the structure and functioning of marine ecosystem processes. C. lucidus has been shown to have an obvious population structure. Therefore, it is an ideal candidate for investigating population differentiation and local adaptation under heterogeneous environmental pressure. RESULTS: A total of 184,708 high-quality single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified and applied to elucidate the fine-scale genetic structure and local thermal adaptation of 8 C. lucidus populations. Population structure analysis based on all SNPs indicated that the northern group and southern group of C. lucidus have a strong differentiation. Moreover, 314 SNPs were found to be significantly associated with temperature variation, and annotations of genes containing temperature-related SNPs suggested that genes were involved in material (protein, lipid, and carbohydrate) metabolism and immune responses. CONCLUSION: The high genetic differentiation of 8 C. lucidus populations may have been caused by long-term geographic isolation during the glacial period. Moreover, we suspected that variation in these genes associated with material (protein, lipid, and carbohydrate) metabolism and immune responses was critical for adaptation to spatially heterogeneous temperatures in natural C. lucidus populations. In conclusion, this study could help us determine how C. lucidus populations will respond to future ocean temperature rising.

Sebastiscus species, marine rockfishes, are of essential economic value. However, the genomic data of this genus is lacking and incomplete. Here, whole genome sequencing of all species of Sebastiscus was conducted to provide fundamental genomic information. The genome sizes were estimated to be 802.49 Mb (S. albofasciatus), 786.79 Mb (S. tertius), and 776.00 Mb (S. marmoratus) by using k-mer analyses. The draft genome sequences were initially assembled, and genome-wide microsatellite motifs were identified. The heterozygosity, repeat ratios, and numbers of microsatellite motifs all suggested possibly that S. tertius is more closely related to S. albofasciatus than S. marmoratus at the genetic level. Moreover, the complete mitochondrial genome sequences were assembled from the whole genome data and the phylogenetic analyses genetically supported the validation of Sebastiscus species. This study provides an important genome resource for further studies of Sebastiscus species.

Harpadon nehereus forms one of the most important commercial fisheries along the Bay of Bengal and the southeast coast of China. In this study, the genome-wide survey dataset first produced using next-generation sequencing (NGS) was used to provide general information on the genome size, heterozygosity and repeat sequence ratio of H. nehereus. About 68.74 GB of high-quality sequence data were obtained in total and the genome size was estimated to be 1315 Mb with the 17-mer frequency distribution. The sequence repeat ratio and heterozygosity were calculated to be 52.49% and 0.67%, respectively. A total of 1,027,651 microsatellite motifs were identified and dinucleotide repeat was the most dominant simple sequence repeat (SSR) motif with a frequency of 54.35%. As a by-product of whole genome sequencing, the mitochondrial genome is a powerful tool to investigate the evolutionary relationships between H. nehereus and its relatives. The maximum likelihood (ML) phylogenetic tree was constructed according to the concatenated matrix of amino acids translated from the 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs). Monophyly of two species of the genus Harpadon was revealed in the present study and they formed a monophyletic clade with Saurida with a high bootstrap value of 100%. The results would help to push back the frontiers of genomics and open the doors of molecular diversity as well as conservation genetics studies on this species.

Specific members of complex microbiota can influence host phenotypes, depending on both the abiotic environment and the presence of other microorganisms. Therefore, it is challenging to define bacterial combinations that have predictable host phenotypic outputs. We demonstrate that plant-bacterium binary-association assays inform the design of small synthetic communities with predictable phenotypes in the host. Specifically, we constructed synthetic communities that modified phosphate accumulation in the shoot and induced phosphate starvation-responsive genes in a predictable fashion. We found that bacterial colonization of the plant is not a predictor of the plant phenotypes we analyzed. Finally, we demonstrated that characterizing a subset of all possible bacterial synthetic communities is sufficient to predict the outcome of untested bacterial consortia. Our results demonstrate that it is possible to infer causal relationships between microbiota membership and host phenotypes and to use these inferences to rationally design novel communities.

The flathead fish Platycephalus sp.1 is an ecologically and commercially important marine fish in the northwestern Pacific with notable sexual differences in growth and development. Yet the genomic data of this species is lacking. In the present study, whole genome sequencing of two individuals (one male and one female) of Platycephalus sp.1 were conducted to provide fundamental genomic information. The genome sizes were estimated to be 674.96 Mb (male) and 684.15 Mb (female) by using k-mer analyses. The heterozygosity and repeat ratios suggested possible male heterogamety of this species. The draft genome sequences were initially assembled and genome-wide microsatellite motifs were identified. Besides, the complete mitochondrial genome sequences were assembled and the phylogenetic analyses genetically supported the validation of Platycephalus sp.1. The reported genomic data and genetic markers in this study could be useful in future comparative genomics and evolutionary biology studies.

The yellow drum (Nibea albiflora) is an important marine economy fish, that is widely distributed in the coastal waters of the Northwest Pacific. To understand the molecular regulatory mechanism of the yellow drum under temperature stress, transcriptome analysis was performed under five temperature conditions (10 °C, 15 °C, 20 °C, 24 °C, 28 °C) in the present study. Compared with 20 °C, 163, 401, 276, and 372 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained at 10 °C, 15 °C, 24 °C and 28 °C, respectively. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis indicated that the DEGs were mainly involved in cellular processes, metabolic processes, catalytic activity, membrane and binding. Meanwhile, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis showed that the temperature adaptive regulation of the yellow drum was mainly involved in signal transduction, metabolism, genetic information and protein processing. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) showed that HMGB1, STAT4, Noct, C1q and CRT may be the key hub genes in the response of the yellow drum to temperature stress. In addition, 20 genes that may be associated with temperature stress were identified based on comparative analysis between the KEGG enrichment and the WGCNA results. Ten DEGs were selected for further validation using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), and the results were consistent with the RNA-seq data. This study explored the transcriptional patterns of the yellow drum under temperature stress and provided fundamental information on the temperature adaptability of this species.

BACKGROUND: Flathead fishes of the genus Platycephalus are economically important demersal fishes that widely inhabit the continental shelves of tropical and temperate sea waters. This genus has a long history of taxonomic revision, and recently four Platycephalus species (Platycephalus sp. 1, Platycephalus sp. 2, P. indicus, and P. cultellatus) in the northwestern Pacific Ocean (NWP) have been recognized and redescribed. However, many aspects of their systematics and evolutionary history are unclear. RESULTS: A total of 411 individuals were sampled from 22 different sites across their distributions in the NWP. Three mitochondrial loci were sequenced to clarify the phylogeny and phylogeographic history of the fishes. The results showed significant differentiation of four Platycephalus species in the NWP with well-supported clades in which Platycephalus sp. 1 and Platycephalus sp. 2 were the closest, clustered with P. cultellatus, while their genetic relationship with P. indicus was the furthest. There were significant genealogical branches corresponding to P. indicus but not to other Platycephalus lineages. We further examined the phylogeographic patterns of 16 Platycephalus sp. 1 populations along the coastlines of China and Japan. A total of 69 haplotypes were obtained, with 23 shared among populations. One dominant haplotypic group, with a modest lineage structure and low levels of haplotype diversity and nucleotide diversity, was observed among Platycephalus sp. 1 populations. The demographic history reconstruction suggested a Platycephalus sp. 1 population expansion event dating back to the late Pleistocene. CONCLUSIONS: Distributional rang variations may be the crucial factors shaping the genetic relationships of the genus Platycephalus. Reproductive schooling and potential egg/larval dispersal ability, coupled with the effects of ocean currents, are responsible for the present phylogeographic pattern of Platycephalus sp. 1.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is one of the most abundant reactive oxygen species (ROS), which plays dual roles as a toxic byproduct of cell metabolism and a regulatory signal molecule in plant development and stress response. Populus simonii × Populus nigra is an important cultivated forest species with resistance to cold, drought, insect and disease, and also a key model plant for forest genetic engineering. In this study, H2O2 response in P. simonii × P. nigra leaves was investigated using physiological and proteomics approaches. The seedlings of 50-day-old P. simonii × P. nigra under H2O2 stress exhibited stressful phenotypes, such as increase of in vivo H2O2 content, decrease of photosynthetic rate, elevated osmolytes, antioxidant accumulation, as well as increased activities of several ROS scavenging enzymes. Besides, 81 H2O2-responsive proteins were identified in the poplar leaves. The diverse abundant patterns of these proteins highlight the H2O2-responsive pathways in leaves, including 14-3-3 protein and nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK)-mediated signaling, modulation of thylakoid membrane structure, enhancement of various ROS scavenging pathways, decrease of photosynthesis, dynamics of proteins conformation, and changes in carbohydrate and other metabolisms. This study provides valuable information for understanding H2O2-responsive mechanisms in leaves of P. simonii × P. nigra.

The Pacific cod Gadus macrocephalus is a demersal, economically important fish in the family Gadidae. Population genetic differentiation of Pacific cod was examined across its northwestern Pacific range by screening variation of eight microsatellite loci in the present study. All four populations exhibited high genetic diversity. Pairwise fixation index (Fst) suggested a moderate to high level of genetic differentiation among populations. Population of the Yellow Sea (YS) showed higher genetic difference compared to the other three populations based on the results of pairwise Fst, three-dimensional factorial correspondence analysis (3D-FCA) and STRUCTURE, which implied restricted gene flow among them. Wilcoxon signed rank tests suggested no significant heterozygosity excess and no recent genetic bottleneck events were detected. Microsatellite DNA is an effective molecular marker for detecting the phylogeographic pattern of Pacific cod, and these Pacific cod populations should be three management units.
