RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To validate terms of nursing language especially for physical-motor rehabilitation and map them to the terms of ICNP(®) 2.0. METHOD: A methodology research based on document analysis, with collection and analysis of terms from 1,425 records. RESULTS: 825 terms were obtained after the methodological procedure, of which 226 had still not been included in the ICNP(®) 2.0. These terms were distributed as follows: 47 on the Focus axis; 15 on the Judgment axis; 31 on the Action axis; 25 on the Location axis; 102 on the Means axis; three on the Time axis; and three on the Client axis. All non-constant terms in ICNP(®) have been validated by experts, having reached an agreement index ≥0.80. CONCLUSION: The ICNP(®) is applicable and used in nursing care for physical-motor rehabilitation.

RESUMO

The aim of this descriptive exploratory study was to construct nursing diagnosis and intervention statements for patients with Congestive Heart Failure. To accomplish this aim, 53 terms were identified in the focus axis of the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®), which guided the construction of these statements using the guidelines of the International Council of Nurses and ISO 18. 104. A total of 92 nursing diagnosis statements were constructed, which resulted in 66 statements after standardization. The standardized statements were separated according to the following pathophysiological models: 13 related to tachycardia, 20 related to dyspnea, 19 related to edema, and 14 related to congestion. A total of 234 interventions were constructed for these statements using the terms from the 7-Axis Model of the ICNP®, the literature in the area and the clinical experience of the authors. The nursing diagnosis and intervention statements designed are expected to facilitate the evaluation of CHF patients and assist in the construction of a terminological subset for the ICNP®.

RESUMO

This was a methodological study conducted to describe the process and results of the development of an International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) Catalogue for Cancer Pain. According to the International Council of Nurses (ICN), this catalogue contains a subset of nursing diagnoses, outcomes, and interventions to document the implementation of the nursing process in cancer patients. This catalogue was developed in several steps according to the guidelines recommended by the ICN. As a result, 68 statements on nursing diagnoses/outcomes were obtained, which were classified according to the theoretical model for nursing care related to cancer pain into physical (28), psychological (29), and sociocultural and spiritual (11) aspects. A total of 116 corresponding nursing interventions were obtained. The proposed ICNP® Catalogue for Cancer Pain aims to provide safe and systematic orientation to nurses who work in this field, thus improving the quality of patient care and facilitating the performance of the nursing process.

RESUMO

This retrospective study, performed in 2009, aimed to identify nursing diagnoses and interventions for the care of patients with spinal cord injury. Data were collected from the nursing records of 465 patients with SCI undergoing rehabilitation. The nursing diagnosis Risk for autonomic dysreflexia was identified in 271 clinical records (58, 3%). Approximately 80 patients developed autonomic dysreflexia, with a predominance in young men around 35.7 years old, who had experienced a trauma as the main cause of the injury. Their neurological injury level was at the sixth thoracic vertebra or above. Nursing interventions were arranged in two groups, one focused on prevention and the other on treatment. An intervention guide was developed and can be used by nurses in their clinical practice of rehabilitation and can be included into information systems. The removal of the stimulus which causes autonomic dysreflexia was identified as the most effective therapy and the best intervention.

RESUMO

The objective of this cross-sectional, descriptive study was to identify the activities of the Nursing Intervention Classification considered as priorities for an Ineffective Breathing Pattern and not performed for elderly inpatients of a teaching hospital in the state of Goiás. The study participants were 43 nursing professionals, and data collection was performed in the period spanning October to December 2008, after receiving approval from the Ethics Committee. It was observed that among the 67 activities considered to be priorities for the referred diagnosis, only seven were performed by all of the participants; the other activities, with a varied frequency, were not performed, with the main reason cited being that a professional from a different area completed the activity. It is understood that the fact that the nursing staff does not perform these activities can cause lack of complete coverage in nursing care; therefore there is a need for a legal apparatus to describe the activities that comprise professional practice exclusive to nursing personnel and those activities that have an interdisciplinary nature.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to assess both theoretically and empirically the tension attributes of the family caregiver of frail older adults. The theoretical phase consisted of analyzing 52 studies addressing this issue. The analysis showed that the phenomenon is evidenced by the caregiver through physical and emotional changes, unbalance between activity and rest, and compromised individual coping. In the field phase, an assessment was made of 30 women who, during the nursing consultation, showed evidence of tension due to their role as caregiver. Data collection was performed through interviews at home, which were recorded and followed a script created based on the theoretical findings. Every time it was considered adequate, excerpts from the caregivers' discourses were added to improve understanding. The empirical assessment confirmed the tension attributes revealed in the theoretical analysis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: to recount the story of the Simpósio Nacional de Diagnóstico de Enfermagem (National Nursing Diagnosis Symposium), from 1991 to 2018, describing the official themes and main recommendations; and reflect on the construction, in this process, of a specific field of knowledge for Nursing. RESULTS: the manuscript became a historical study, using official documents resulting from the thirteen Symposiums conducted in the period from 1991 to 2018 as the primary source of empirical data. The outcomes were divided into two stages, from 1991 to 1992, when the event was linked to Interest Groups in Nursing Diagnosis; and from 1996 to 2018, when ABEn Nacional took over the organization and execution of the event. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: the socialization and exchange of knowledge about systematization of care, Nursing Process and nursing terminologies, themes focused on SINADEn, contributed decisively to the construction of a fruitful field of knowledge for Nursing.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To identify useful terms for nursing practice in the care of people with leprosy and to cross-mapp the identified terms with the ICNP® terms. METHOD: A descriptive, documentary study that included publications of the Ministry of Health in the area of leprosy launched between 2002 and 2017. The terms identified in these publications were extracted and underwent a normalization proces and then, were cross-mapped with terms of the ICNP® version 2015 for the identification of constant and non-constant terms in this terminology. RESULTS: In total, were extracted 1,177 terms, of which 26.76% were equal, 4.59% similar, 4.26% were broader, 19.62% were more restricted, and 44.77% were totally different from the ICNP® terms. CONCLUSIONS: The large number of terms identified and not included in the ICNP® show the need for its expansion in order to contemplate the phenomena of clinical practice more effectively and allow better representation of nursing care for people with leprosy.

RESUMO

The International Classification for Nursing Practice - ICNP is an official program of the International Council of Nurses - ICN. In 2003, the ICN began to develop and to test the idea of creation of ICNP Research and Development Centres, considered important elements to concentrate and disseminate new thinking and discussions that promote the advance of ICNP. In this work we focus on the meaning, possible organization forms, advantages and obligations of the ICNP Research and Development Centres; and describe the ICNP Centre of the Post-Graduate Program in Nursing of the Federal University of Paraíba, accredited by ICN in July of 2007.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the Nursing diagnostic accuracy measures and to propose a model to use defining characteristics in order to judge the nursing diagnosis of ineffective breastfeeding. METHOD: Cross-sectional study with a sample of 73 binomials mom-child hospitalized in a maternity ward of an University Hospital, from July to August of 2014. RESULTS: The diagnostic predominance rate was 58.9%. The characteristics that best meet the needs of logistic regression model were: discontinuance of breast sucking; infant's inability of seizing the areola-nipple region correctly; infant's crying one hour after breastfeeding and inappropriate milk supply perceived. CONCLUSION: Breastfeeding process is dynamic; diagnostic judgement may suffer some changes according to the time data are collected; the defining characteristics are the best predictors if associated with models and rules of use.

Objective: To analyze the profile of nursing diagnoses in people with leprosy based on Orem's theory and the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®). Method: cross-sectional, descriptive study of 24 people with leprosy in outpatient care. Data collection occurred through nursing consultations in the light of Orem's theory, using interviews and clinical examination. Results: The process of nursing diagnoses development was based on clinical reasoning, the seven-axis model of the ICNP® and the ISO 18104. The diagnostic inferences were validated by three judges. Conclusion: Sixty nursing diagnoses were identified, 51.6% of which were classified as health deviation self-care requisites. The diagnostic profile indicates specific self-care demands of this population and the need for the organization of interventions based on the supportive-educative system.

RESUMO

Joining in the effort of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) to develop the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP), the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEn) designed the project International Classification of Nursing Practice in Collective Health (CIPESC). One of the purposes of that project was to contribute to the confirmation of terms that have already been identified and/or the identification of new terms that might expand the ICNP. As a first phase of the project, quantitative data were collected to describe the research sites and the nursing staff composition; in the second phase, using focus group methodology, qualitative data were collected and analyzed to describe the collective health nursing practices, and to produce a vocabulary inventory of terms related to nursing phenomena and nursing actions in collective health in Brazil. This article describes the methodology and the results of the second way of analyzing the qualitative data collected--production of a vocabulary inventory of terms related to nursing phenomena and nursing actions in collective health.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To construct and validate a preliminary version of a scale for use in routine screening of body image disturbances in nursing practice. METHODS: A five-stage procedure consisting of item construction, analysis of content validity, analysis of reliability, analysis of construct validity, and analysis of the discriminant validity of the scale. FINDINGS: At the end of the current stage of development, the preliminary version of the scale consisted of 23 items, demonstrating stability, adequate internal consistency, and discriminant validity between subjects in the upper and lower groups of scores. CONCLUSIONS: Although the psychometric properties of the scale have been delineated, the scale needs further psychometric evaluation and testing in different settings/samples so its clinical validity and reliability can be confirmed. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: The preliminary version of the body image rating scale has the potential to provide the nurse with reliable and valid information about a person's mental image of his/her own body. Using it can help nurses to identify possible body image disturbances and to plan individual nursing interventions.
