This study delves into the geochemical dispersion of gold-bearing quartz veins in the Wadi Abu Khusheiba area, southern Jordan, with a focus on uncovering the complex patterns of mineralization and their geological significance. Employing an in-depth geochemical analysis of 24 rock samples from the region, we identified that these samples are predominantly hosted by oversaturated rhyolitic rocks, characterized by high SiO2 content and abundant free Quartz and orthoclase minerals. The mineralized zone of the quartz veins is particularly notable for its gold and silver concentrations, with maximum values reaching up to 5 ppm for gold and 18 ppm for silver. Our investigation into the elemental correlations revealed nuanced relationships, dependent on the 21 sample and analyzed at confidence level of (85%). Contrary to initial assumptions, we did not find a significant positive correlation between gold (Au) and arsenic (As), nor significant negative correlations between gold and other trace elements. These insights are critical for understanding the geochemical behavior of gold in the area and offer a nuanced view of elemental associations. The results of this study are significant for both academic research and practical exploration. They enhance our comprehension of the geological history and mineralization processes in Wadi Abu Khusheiba, providing valuable data that can inform future exploration strategies and deepen our understanding of mineral deposition in similar geological settings. This research not only contributes to the scientific community's knowledge of the area's geochemistry but also has potential implications for the mining and exploration industries.

The present study was designed with the aim to study morphometric characterization as well as phylogeny and diversity of the local Surguli goat at their breeding tract district Kohat through mitochondrial DNA region, i.e., Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit One (CO1) gene. Morphometric data and blood samples were collected from thirty (30) pure goats. Morphometric analysis showed that sex had significant effect (p < 0.05) on body weight, body length, hearth girth and horn length while no significant effect (p > 0.05) was observed for other characteristics. The results also indicated that age had significant effect (p < 0.05) on height at rump, ear length, horn length and tail length while no significant effect (p > 0.05) was observed for other characteristics. The phylogenetic analysis through CO1 nucleotide sequences within nucleotide range 1-767 showed nine polymorphic sites segregating into eight haplotypes. The mean intraspecific diversity and mean interspecific diversity were calculated as 0.23 and 2.36%, respectively. Phylogenetic tree revealed that Capra Ibex and native Surguli goat have common ancestors. The morphometric and molecular results obtained from the present study can be exploited as a selection tool for breeding and overall improvement.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), produced by a variety of microbial species and used as biological agents, have been demonstrated to play a significant role in controlling phytopathogens. In continuation of our previous studies, we aim to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and pathways involved in interactions between pathogens and microbial VOCs. In the current study, we tested how VOCs produced by Bacillus velezensis FZB42 affect the growth of Ralstonia solanacearum TBBS1 in vitro.Query The result showed that the colony growth of R. solanacearum was reduced with an inhibition rate of 0.83 ± 0.043 as compared to the control 1.7 ± 0.076, respectively. The number of viable cells of R. solanacearum was significantly decreased to 7.68 CFU/mL as compared to the control (9.02 CFU/mL). In addition, transcriptomic analysis of R. solanacearum in response to VOCs produced by FZB42 was performed to better understand the effect of VOCs on R. solanacearum. The transcriptional response of R. solanacearum to FZB42-VOCs was determined using an Illumina RNA-seq approach. The results revealed significant changes in the expression of 2094 R. solanacearum genes, including 593 upregulated and 1501 downregulated genes. To validate the RNA-seq results, the expression of 10 genes was quantified using RT-qPCR. Furthermore, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases were used to functionally annotate differentially expressed genes. Significant changes were observed in genes directly or indirectly related to virulence, including those related to bacterial invasion, motility, chemotaxis, and secretion systems. Overall, RNA-seq profiling provides new insights into the possible fundamental molecular mechanisms that are responsible for the reduction in growth and virulence of R. solanacearum upon application of FZB42-VOC.

This research work focuses on a Near-Infra-Red (NIR) finger-images-based multimodal biometric system based on Finger Texture and Finger Vein biometrics. The individual results of the biometric characteristics are fused using a fuzzy system, and the final identification result is achieved. Experiments are performed for three different databases, i.e., the Near-Infra-Red Hand Images (NIRHI), Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) and University of Twente Finger Vein Pattern (UTFVP) databases. First, the Finger Texture biometric employs an efficient texture feature extracting algorithm, i.e., Linear Binary Pattern. Then, the classification is performed using Support Vector Machine, a proven machine learning classification algorithm. Second, the transfer learning of pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is performed for the Finger Vein biometric, employing two approaches. The three selected CNNs are AlexNet, VGG16 and VGG19. In Approach 1, before feeding the images for the training of the CNN, the necessary preprocessing of NIR images is performed. In Approach 2, before the pre-processing step, image intensity optimization is also employed to regularize the image intensity. NIRHI outperforms HKPU and UTFVP for both of the modalities of focus, in a unimodal setup as well as in a multimodal one. The proposed multimodal biometric system demonstrates a better overall identification accuracy of 99.62% in comparison with 99.51% and 99.50% reported in the recent state-of-the-art systems.

BACKGROUND: Systemic thrombolysis (ST) may not be ideal for many patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) due to bleeding risk. In this analysis, we evaluated the safety and effectiveness of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) as an alternative to ST for acute PE. METHODS: Patients aged ≥18 years who underwent MT and/or ST for PE were identified from the National Inpatient Sample database from 2016 to 2017. Patients who underwent catheter-directed thrombolysis were excluded. We compared in-hospital outcomes of both groups in this retrospective study. RESULTS: Of 16 890 patients who received an intervention for acute PE, 1380 (8.2%) received MT and 15 510 (91.8%) received ST. There was no difference in age between both groups. In-hospital mortality was significantly lower in patients who received MT than that in those who received ST (11.9% vs 20.6%, odds ratio [OR]: 0.52, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.29-0.93, p=0.028). There was no statistically significant difference in terms of periprocedural bleeding, intracranial hemorrhage, and acute kidney injury between the 2 groups (p≥0.608 for all). Patients who received MT had a higher rate of respiratory complications (19.0% vs 11.6%, OR: 1.79, 95% CI: 1.06-3.03, p=0.030) and discharge to an outside facility (34.1% vs 19.2%, OR: 2.18, 95% CI: 1.41-3.37, p<0.001) than those who received ST. CONCLUSION: Mortality was significantly lower with MT than that with ST, but larger randomized studies are needed to validate this. The use of MT should be individualized on the basis of the patients' clinical presentation, risk profile, and local resources. CLINICAL IMPACT: In this study, we utilized the National Inpatient Sample database to study the in-hospital outcomes of pulmonary embolism patients who underwent mechanical thrombectomy compared to those who underwent systemic thrombolysis. We found that the patients who were diagnosed with pulmonary embolism and underwent mechanical thrombectomy had significantly lower mortality compared to those who were treated using systemic thrombolysis. This study was the first of its kind, utilizing the national inpatient sample database for evaluation of mechanical thrombectomy in comparison with the standard of care. These result would direct further randomized controlled trials for better evaluation of the utilization of mechanical thrombectomy in the correct clinical context. Furthermore, our study demonstrated comparable peri-operative complications between the mechanical thrombectomy group and the systemic thrombolysis group. These results would direct clinicians to consider mechanical thrombectomy if clinically indicated given the promising results.

Salinity is one of the most common factors affecting alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), and NaCl is one of the main factors of salinity stress which can cause heavy losses in agricultural production in the world. The application of exogenous melatonin (MT) plays a major role in numerous plants against various stress environments. The effects of exogenous MT on the NaCl tolerance of alfalfa treated with the control, 100 µmol L-1 MT, 150 mmol L-1 NaCl, or 150 mmol L-1 NaCl+ 100 µmol L-1 MT were investigated. The results showed that MT increased growth parameters, inhibited chlorophyll degradation and promoted photosynthetic gas exchange parameters (photosynthetic rate, conductance to H2O, and transpiration rate) and stomatal opening under NaCl stress. Osmotic regulation substances such as soluble sugar, proline and glycine betaine were the highest in the NaCl treatment and the second in the NaCl+MT treatment. Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium were reduced and sodium was increased by NaCl, whereas these levels were reversed by the NaCl+MT treatment. MT inhibited cell membrane imperfection, lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation caused by NaCl stress. MT up-regulated the gene expression and activity of antioxidant enzymes and increased the content of antioxidant non-enzyme substances to scavenge excessive ROS in NaCl-treated plants. In addition, all indicators interacted with each other to a certain extent and could be grouped according to the relative values. All variables were divided into PC 1 (89.2 %) and PC 2 (4 %). They were clustered into two categories with opposite effects, and most of them were significant variables. Hence, these findings reveal that exogenous MT alleviates the inhibitory effects of NaCl stress on photosynthesis, stomata opening, osmotic adjustment, ion balance and redox homeostasis, enhancing tolerance and growth of alfalfa. Furthermore, it suggests that MT could be implemented to improve the NaCl tolerance of alfalfa.

Fusarium brachygibbosum Padwick, the causal agent of stalk rot disease, is a threat to the maize crop in China. However, genomic information of the pathogen is not available yet. The current study presented the genomic information of F. brachygibbosum, isolated from maize. The genome size is 40.36 Mb and consists of 12,510 genes. The GC content is 47.95%, and there are 913 predicted secretory proteins. The presented genomic data highlighted the virulence features, plant-microbe interaction ability, genes associated with the pathogen's metabolic processes, and host-binding ability. Presented results would extend our knowledge of the pathogen and help us develop suitable disease management strategies.

In the energy system, various sources are used to fulfill the energy demand of large buildings. The energy management of large-scale buildings is very important. The proposed system comprises solar PVs, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles. Demand response (DR) schemes are considered in various studies, but the analysis of the impact of dynamic DR on operational cost has been ignored. So, in this paper, renewable energy resources and storages are integrated considering the demand response strategies such as real-time pricing (RTP), critical peak pricing (CPP), and time of use (ToU). The proposed system is mapped in a linear model and simulated in MATLAB using linear programming (LP). Different case studies are investigated considering the dynamic demand response schemes. Among different schemes, results based on real-time pricing (58% saving) show more saving as compared to the CPP and ToU. The obtained results reduced the operational cost and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which shows the efficacy of the model.

Current energy systems face multiple problems related to inflation in energy prices, reduction of fossil fuels, and greenhouse gas emissions which are disturbing the comfort zone of energy consumers and the affordability of power for large commercial customers. These kinds of problems can be alleviated with the help of optimal planning of demand response policies and with distributed generators in the distribution system. The objective of this article is to give a strategic proposition of an energy management system for a campus microgrid (µG) to minimize the operating costs and to increase the self-consuming energy of the green distributed generators (DGs). To this end, a real-time based campus is considered that currently takes provision of its loads from the utility grid only. According to the proposed given scenario, it will contain solar panels and a wind turbine as non-dispatchable DGs while a diesel generator is considered as a dispatchable DG. It also incorporates an energy storage system with optimal sizing of BESS to tackle the multiple disturbances that arise from solar radiation. The resultant problem of linear mathematics was simulated and plotted in MATLAB with mixed-integer linear programming. Simulation results show that the proposed given model of energy management (EMS) minimizes the grid electricity costs by 668.8 CC/day ($) which is 36.6% of savings for the campus microgrid. The economic prognosis for the campus to give an optimum result for the UET Taxila, Campus was also analyzed. The general effect of a medium-sized solar PV installation on carbon emissions and energy consumption costs was also determined. The substantial environmental and economic benefits compared to the present situation have prompted the campus owners to invest in the DGs and to install large-scale energy storage.

Distributed generation connected with AC, DC, or hybrid loads and energy storage systems is known as a microgrid. Campus microgrids are an important load type. A university campus microgrids, usually, contains distributed generation resources, energy storage, and electric vehicles. The main aim of the microgrid is to provide sustainable, economical energy, and a reliable system. The advanced energy management system (AEMS) provides a smooth energy flow to the microgrid. Over the last few years, many studies were carried out to review various aspects such as energy sustainability, demand response strategies, control systems, energy management systems with different types of optimization techniques that are used to optimize the microgrid system. In this paper, a comprehensive review of the energy management system of campus microgrids is presented. In this survey, the existing literature review of different objective functions, renewable energy resources and solution tools are also reviewed. Furthermore, the research directions and related issues to be considered in future microgrid scheduling studies are also presented.

Groundwater, is an alternative resource, is used as a supplement for irrigation as well as drinking purposes in Pakistan. This paper aims to determine the quantum and quality of groundwater in Matiari district of Sindh, Pakistan, through Electrical Resistivity Survey (ERS). The ERS was conducted at 52 location points using the ABEM Terrameter SAS 4000. The quantity of good quality groundwater has also been evaluated with ArcGIS interpolation techniques, i.e., the maximum percentage of fresh groundwater is 34% the marginal fresh groundwater 43% at the depth of with few patches of saline groundwater aquifers. Moreover, at 50-m depth, the percentage of fresh groundwater reduces to 21% and the marginal has increased to 48%. However, groundwater below the depth from 50 to 100 m was found only 8% fresh groundwater, 29% marginal, 49% salt water, and 14% high salt water. Analysis of groundwater samples for quality showed a good agreement with the quality obtained from VES results. In addition, a socio-economic survey of 55 tube well owners were conducted through interviews related to groundwater suitability and usage. According to the survey, about 62% of respondents are using good quality groundwater; however, 36% consuming the marginal and the remaining 2% are utilizing the hazardous quality of groundwater. The consumer satisfaction survey showed most farmers (89%) were satisfied with the groundwater usage, while 11% were unsatisfied due to poor-quality groundwater. The crop productivity could be enhanced through awareness and conjunctive use of marginal quality groundwater with the canal water.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has spread around the globe very rapidly. Previously, the evolution pattern and similarity among the COVID-19 causative organism severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and causative organisms of other similar infections have been determined using a single type of genetic marker in different studies. Herein, the SARS-CoV-2 and related ß coronaviruses Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), SARS-CoV,  bat coronavirus (BAT-CoV) were comprehensively analyzed using a custom-built pipeline that employed phylogenetic approaches based on multiple types of genetic markers including the whole genome sequences, mutations in nucleotide sequences, mutations in protein sequences, and microsatellites. The whole-genome sequence-based phylogeny revealed that the strains of SARS-CoV-2 are more similar to the BAT-CoV strains. The mutational analysis showed that on average MERS-CoV and BAT-CoV genomes differed at 134.21 and 136.72 sites, respectively, whereas the SARS-CoV genome differed at 26.64 sites from the reference genome of SARS-CoV-2. Furthermore, the microsatellite analysis highlighted a relatively higher number of average microsatellites for MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 (106.8 and 107, respectively), and a lower number for SARS-CoV and BAT-CoV (95.8 and 98.5, respectively). Collectively, the analysis of multiple genetic markers of selected ß viral genomes revealed that the newly born SARS-COV-2 is closely related to BAT-CoV, whereas, MERS-CoV is more distinct from the SARS-CoV-2 than BAT-CoV and SARS-CoV.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR) is a treatment option for patients with 3+ or greater mitral regurgitation who cannot undergo mitral valve surgery. Outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage renal disease (ESRD) are unclear. We sought to evaluate the TMVR in-hospital outcomes, readmission rates and its impact on kidney function. METHODS: Data from 2016 National Readmission Database was used to obtain all patients who underwent TMVR. Patients were classified by their CKD status: no CKD, CKD, or ESRD. The primary outcomes were: in-hospital mortality, 30- and 90-day readmission rate, and change in CKD status on readmission. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to assess in-hospital, readmission outcomes and kidney function stage. RESULTS: A total of 4,645 patients were assessed (mean age 78.5 ± 10.3 years). In-hospital mortality was higher in patients with CKD (4.0%, odds ratio [OR]:2.01 [95% CI, confidence interval: 1.27-3.18]) and ESRD (6.6%, OR: 6.38 [95% CI: 1.49-27.36]) compared with non-CKD (2.4%). 30-day readmission rate was higher in ESRD versus non-CKD patients (17.8% vs. 10.4%, OR: 2.24 [95% CI: 1.30-3.87]) as was 90-day readmission (41.2% vs. 21% OR: 2.51 [95% CI:1.70-3.72]). Kidney function improved in 25% of patients with CKD stage 3 and in 50% with CKD stage 4-5 at 30-and 90-day readmission. Incidence of AKI, major bleeding, and respiratory failure were higher in CKD group. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with CKD and ESRD have worse outcomes and higher readmission rate after TMVR. In patients who were readmitted after TMVR, renal function improved in some patients, suggesting that TMVR could potentially improve CKD stage.

Cold stress is an adverse environmental condition that limits the growth and yield of leguminous plants. Thus, discovering an effective way of ameliorating cold-mediated damage is important for sustainable legume production. In this study, the combined use of Rhizobium inoculation (RI) and melatonin (MT) pretreatment was investigated in Medicago truncatula plants under cold stress. Eight-week-old seedlings were divided into eight groups: (i) CK (no stress, noninoculated, no MT), (ii) RI (Rhizobium inoculated), (iii) MT (75 µM melatonin), (iv) RI+MT, (v) CS (cold stress at 4 °C without Rhizobium inoculation and melatonin), (vi) CS+RI, (vii) CS+MT, and (viii) CS+RI+MT. Plants were exposed to cold stress for 24 hrs. Cold stress decreased photosynthetic pigments and increased oxidative stress. Pretreatment with RI and MT alone or combined significantly improved root activity and plant biomass production under cold stress. Interestingly, chlorophyll contents increased by 242.81% and MDA levels dramatically decreased by 34.22% in the CS+RI+MT treatment compared to the CS treatment. Moreover, RI+MT pretreatment improved the antioxidative ability by increasing the activities of peroxidase (POD; 8.45%), superoxide dismutase (SOD; 50.36%), catalase (CAT; 140.26%), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX; 42.63%) over CS treated plants. Additionally, increased osmolyte accumulation, nutrient uptake, and nitrate reductase activity due to the combined use of RI and MT helped the plants counteract cold-mediated damage by strengthening the nonenzymatic antioxidant system. These data indicate that pretreatment with a combined application of RI and MT can attenuate cold damage by enhancing the antioxidation ability of legumes.

The phytotoxicity of nanoparticles has attracted considerable interest, given the broad applications of nanomaterials in different fields. Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a major forage crop grown worldwide with a high protein content. The molecular regulation mechanisms involved in nanomaterial-treated alfalfa were examined in this research. In our lab, 18 cDNA libraries of Golden Empress (GE) and Bara 310SC (SC) under control (CK), middle (10 g kg-1)- and high (20 g kg-1)-graphene stress treatments were constructed in 2019. All clean reads were matched to the reference Medicago_truncatula genome, the mapping ratio was higher than 50%, and a total of 3946 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained. The number of DEGs that reflect transcriptional activity is proportional to the degree of stress. For example, 1241/610 and 1794/1422 DEGs were identified as significant in the leaves of GE/SC under mid- and high-graphene treatment, respectively. Furthermore, GO analysis of the DEGs annotated in some significant biochemical process terms included 'response to abiotic stimulus', 'oxidation-reduction process', 'protein kinase activity', and 'oxidoreductase activity'. KEGG pathway analysis of the DEGs revealed strongly mediated graphene-responsive genes in alfalfa mainly linked to the 'biosynthesis of amino acids', 'isoflavonoid biosynthesis', 'linoleic acid metabolism', and 'phenylpropanoid biosynthesis' pathways. In addition, hundreds of DEGs, including photosynthetic, antioxidant enzyme, nitrogen metabolism, and metabolic sucrose and starch genes, have been identified as potentially involved in the response to graphene. Physiological findings revealed that enzymes related to the metabolism of nitrogen play a crucial role in the adaptation of graphene stress to alfalfa. Ultimately, in response to graphene stress, a preliminary regulatory mechanism was proposed for the self-protective mechanism of alfalfa, which helps to explain the phytotoxicity of the molecular mechanism of nanoparticle-treated crops.

High energy consumption, rising environmental concerns and depleting fossil fuels demand an increase in clean energy production. The enhanced resiliency, efficiency and reliability offered by microgrids with distributed energy resources (DERs) have shown to be a promising alternative to the conventional grid system. Large-sized commercial customers like institutional complexes have put significant efforts to promote sustainability by establishing renewable energy systems at university campuses. This paper proposes the integration of a photovoltaic (PV) system, energy storage system (ESS) and electric vehicles (EV) at a University campus. An optimal energy management system (EMS) is proposed to optimally dispatch the energy from available energy resources. The problem is mapped in a Linear optimization problem and simulations are carried out in MATLAB. Simulation results showed that the proposed EMS ensures the continuous power supply and decreases the energy consumption cost by nearly 45%. The impact of EV as a storage tool is also observed. EVs acting as a source of energy reduced the energy cost by 45.58% and as a load by 19.33%. The impact on the cost for continuous power supply in case of a power outage is also analyzed.

Diagnostic and evidential static image, video clip, and sound multimedia are captured during routine clinical care in cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, pathology, physiatry, radiation oncology, radiology, endoscopic procedural specialties, and other medical disciplines. Providers typically describe the multimedia findings in contemporaneous electronic health record clinical notes or associate a textual interpretative report. Visual communication aids commonly used to connect, synthesize, and supplement multimedia and descriptive text outside medicine remain technically challenging to integrate into patient care. Such beneficial interactive elements may include hyperlinks between text, multimedia elements, alphanumeric and geometric annotations, tables, graphs, timelines, diagrams, anatomic maps, and hyperlinks to external educational references that patients or provider consumers may find valuable. This HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community workgroup white paper outlines the current and desired clinical future state of interactive multimedia reporting (IMR). The workgroup adopted a consensus definition of IMR as "interactive medical documentation that combines clinical images, videos, sound, imaging metadata, and/or image annotations with text, typographic emphases, tables, graphs, event timelines, anatomic maps, hyperlinks, and/or educational resources to optimize communication between medical professionals, and between medical professionals and their patients." This white paper also serves as a precursor for future efforts toward solving technical issues impeding routine interactive multimedia report creation and ingestion into electronic health records.

Newer generation drug eluting stents (DES) and pharmacotherapy have decreased thrombotic events post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). There is lack of wide-ranging safety and efficacy evaluation in both stable ischemic heart disease and acute coronary syndrome in short-term (3-6 months) versus Standard-term (12 months) dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). We searched electronic databases using specific terms to identify randomized control trials comparing different durations of DAPT after PCI with DES. The outcomes of interest included all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, stent thrombosis, major bleeding, target lesion and vessel revascularization, and stroke at follow-up duration ≥12 months post index PCI. Studies that compared DAPT <3 months or DAPT ≥12 months were excluded. Thirteen randomized control trials (n = 31,831) were included; 8401 patients received DAPT for 3 months and 7482 patients received DAPT in the 6 months group. Major bleeding rate was lower in the short-term (3-6 months) versus Standard-term (12 months) group (risk ratio 0.66; 95% confidence interval, 0.52-0.84, P < 0.05). Repeat revascularization rate was higher in the short-term (3-6 months) versus Standard-term (12 months) (risk ratio 1.17; 95% confidence interval, 1.01-1.36, P < 0.05) of DAPT duration after PCI with DES. No difference in other outcomes were observed when comparing short versus standard duration of DAPT in both stable ischemic heart disease and acute coronary syndrome.

Background: The relationship between hematological cancer susceptibility and methionine synthase MTR A2756G (rs1805087) polymorphism is inconclusive based on data from past studies. Hence, this updated meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between methionine synthase reductase (MTR) rs1805087 polymorphism and hematological cancers. Method: We searched EMBASE, Google Scholar, Ovid and PubMed databases for possible relevant articles up to December 31, 2019. Results: The overall pooled outcome of our analysis showed lack of association between the risk of hematological malignancies and MTR A2756G polymorphism under the allele model (G vs A: odds ratio = 1.001, 95% CI: 0.944-1.061; p = 0.983), recessive model (GG vs GA + AA: odds ratio = 1.050, 95% CI: 0.942-1.170; p = 0.382). Conclusion: The findings in this study demonstrate a lack of relationship between hematological cancers and MTR A2756G.

Aim: Many studies have analyzed the relationship between Arg72Pro polymorphism of TP53 and leukemia; nevertheless, the findings continue to be indeterminate. We, therefore, performed an updated meta-analysis in multi-ethnic groups using specialized software for genome-wide association studies meta-analysis. Materials & methods: PubMed, EMBASE and Google Scholar were searched up to October 2018. An odds ratio (OR) with the corresponding 95% CI was used to evaluate the strength in the association. Results: This meta-analysis included 16 studies with 2337 cases and 9494 controls. In the overall population, significant relationship between Arg72Pro polymorphism of TP53 and leukemia susceptibility was found in two genetic models (recessive model: OR = 1.276, 95% CI = 1.102-1.476; p = 0.01; overdominant model: OR = 0.891, 95% CI = 0.802-0.988; p = 0.03). In stratified studies with ethnicity, a significant association was found in five ethnic groups, including Chinese, Americans, Africans, Japanese and Indians. Conclusion: We demonstrated that an association exist between leukemia risk and TP53 gene codon Arg72Pro polymorphism in the recessive and overdominant genetic models. Also, our findings show that the TP53 Arg72Pro polymorphism may influence leukemia development in different populations.
