RESUMO

In this work, an ordered membrane electrode assembly (MEA) based on a cone Nafion array with gradient Nafion distribution, tightly bonded catalytic layer/proton exchange membrane (CL/PEM) interface, and abundant vertical channels has been engineered by an anodic aluminum oxide template and magnetron sputtering method. Benefiting from a highly efficient CL/PEM interface, plentiful proton transfer highways, and rapid oxygen bubble release, this ordered MEA achieves an ultralow Ir loading of 20.0 µg cm-2 and a high electrochemical active area by 8.7 times compared to traditional MEA with Ir loading of 1.0 mg cm-2. It yields a mass activity of 168 000 mA mgIr-1 cm-2 at 2.0 V, which is superior to most reported PEM electrolyzers. Notably, this ordered MEA maintains excellent durability at a current density of 500 mA cm-2. This work opens a simple, cost-effective, and scalable route to design ordered MEAs for proton exchange membrane water electrolysis.

RESUMO

This study was conducted to investigate the impact of supplementing blue and red light on the biomass yield, metal uptake, contaminant purification, and the alleviation of leaching risks by Noccaea caerulescens, a well-known hyperaccumulator of Cd and Zn. As previously reported for the closely related Thlaspi arvense, N. caerulescens retarded the leaching of Cd and Zn but aggravated the leaching of Pb and Cu, because the species mobilized all metals in soil but only extracted Cd and Zn. Monochromic red light reduced the leaching of Pb and Cu by 13.8% and 1.3%, respectively, but simultaneously weakened Cd phytoremediation by reducing shoot biomass. Our results demonstrated that a small proportion of blue light (10%) could eliminate the negative effect of monochromatic red light on plant shoot growth. However, root biomass decreased by 14.3%, 26.2%, 21.4%, and 61.9% as the percentage of blue light increased from 10 to 100%. Noccaea caerulescens generated the most biomass and accumulated the highest metal concentrations, except for Pb, when the ratio of red to blue light was 1:1. In addition, leachate volume was significantly reduced under the 10% and 50% blue light treatments compared to other light treatments. Therefore, light supplementation with a suitable proportion of blue light can enhance metal purification by N. caerulescens and alleviate potential leaching risk during phytoremediation.

RESUMO

Cervical cancer is one of the most common female malignant tumors, with typical cancer metabolism characteristics of increased glycolysis flux and lactate accumulation. 2-Deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) is a glycolysis inhibitor that acts on hexokinase, the first rate-limiting enzyme in the glycolysis pathway. In this research, we demonstrated that 2-DG effectively reduced glycolysis and impaired mitochondrial function in cervical cancer cell lines HeLa and SiHa. Cell function experiments revealed that 2-DG significantly inhibited cell growth, migration, and invasion, and induced G0/G1 phase arrest at non-cytotoxic concentrations. In addition, we found that 2-DG down-regulated Wingless-type (Wnt)/ß-catenin signaling. Mechanistically, 2-DG accelerated the degradation of ß-catenin protein, which resulted in the decrease of ß-catenin expression in both nucleus and cytoplasm. The Wnt agonist lithium chloride and ß-catenin overexpression vector could partially reverse the inhibition of malignant phenotype by 2-DG. These data suggested that 2-DG exerted its anti-cancer effects on cervical cancer by co-targeting glycolysis and Wnt/ß-catenin signaling. As expected, the combination of 2-DG and Wnt inhibitor synergistically inhibited cell growth. It is noteworthy that, down-regulation of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling also inhibited glycolysis, indicating a similar positive feedback regulation between glycolysis and Wnt/ß-catenin signaling. In conclusion, we investigated the molecular mechanism by which 2-DG inhibits the progression of cervical cancer in vitro, elucidated the interregulation between glycolysis and Wnt/ß-catenin signaling, and preliminarily explored the effect of combined targeting of glycolysis and Wnt/ß-catenin signaling on cell proliferation, which provides more possibilities for the formulation of subsequent clinical treatment strategies.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To compare the efficacy of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT in primary or recurrent tumors and metastatic lesions of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) with that of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]F-FDG) PET/CT. METHODS: Forty-nine patients (median age, 57 years; IQR, 51-66 years) with histologically proven primary or relapsed EOC were enrolled. Participants underwent [18F]F-FDG and [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT. The detection rate, diagnostic accuracy, semiquantitative parameters, tumor staging, and clinical management of the tracers were compared. The diagnostic performance of [18F]F-FDG and [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT was evaluated and compared using surgical pathology. Differences between methods regarding the peritoneal cancer index (PCI) using preoperative imaging, surgical PCI, and tumor markers (CA125, HE4) were also assessed regarding peritoneal metastases. RESULTS: Among the 49 patients, 28 had primary EOC; 21 had relapsed EOC. [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT outperformed [18F]F-FDG PET/CT in detecting peritoneal metastases (96.8% vs. 83.0%; p < 0.001), retroperitoneal (99.5% vs. 91.4%; p < 0.001), and supradiaphragmatic lymph node metastases (100% vs. 80.4%; p < 0.001). Compared with [18F]F-FDG, [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 showed higher SUVmax for peritoneal metastases (17.31 vs. 13.68; p = 0.026) and retroperitoneal (8.72 vs. 6.56; p < 0.001) and supradiaphragmatic lymph node metastases (6.39 vs. 4.20; p < 0.001). Moreover, [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT showed higher sensitivity compared with [18F]F-FDG PET/CT for detecting metastatic lymph nodes (80.6% vs. 61.3%; p = 0.031) and peritoneal metastases (97.5% vs. 75.9%; p < 0.001), using surgical pathology as the gold standard. Compared with [18F]F-FDG PET/CT, [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT led to an upgrade in 14.3% and 33.3% of treatment-naive and relapse participants, resulting in management changes in 10.7% and 19.0% of the patients, respectively. The median PCIFAPI scores were significantly higher than PCIFDG (15 vs. 11; p < 0.001) and positively correlated with CA125 and HE4 levels and surgical PCI. CONCLUSION: [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT achieved higher sensitivity than [18F]F-FDG PET/CT in the detection and diagnosis of lymph node and peritoneal metastases, suggesting advantages regarding the preoperative staging of patients with EOC and, thereby, improving treatment decision-making. RESUMO

A novel active Ce-doped Ti4O7 (Ti/Ti4O7-Ce) electrode was prepared and evaluated for improvement of the refractory pollutants degradation efficiency in Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs). The results showed that the addition of Ce in Ti/Ti4O7 electrode leading to great impact on •OH generation rate and electrode stability compared to pristine Ti/Ti4O7 electrode. Ti/Ti4O7-Ce electrode presented efficient oxidation capacity for pharmaceutical pollutant atenolol (ATL) in EAOPs, which could be attributed to the improvement of indirect oxidation mediated by electro-generated •OH, as the amount of •OH production was 16.5% higher than that in Ti/Ti4O7 within 120 min. The operational conditions greatly influenced the ATL degradation. The degradation efficiency of ATL increased as the current density, the degradation efficiency reached 100% under pH 4, but it just removed 81% of ATL under pH 10 after 120 min treatment. Results also suggested that the inhibiting effect from the ATL degradation was mostly associated with the decreased oxidation capacity induced by water hardness and natural organic matter (NOM). It displayed a satisfactory durability after 40 cycles of experimental detections in this research. The results of study suggested that Ti/Ti4O7-Ce was a promising electrode for the efficient degradation of PPCPs-polluted wastewater and provided constructive suggestion for the refractory pollutants of EAOPs.

RESUMO

A novel multi-color emitting Na2 YMg2 V3 O12 :Sm3+ phosphor was synthesized using a solid-state reaction, and its crystal structure, luminescence properties, and thermal stability were studied. Charge transfer within the (VO4 )3- groups in the Na2 YMg2 V3 O12 host led to a broad emission band between 400 and 700 nm, with a maximum at 530 nm. The Na2 Y1-x Mg2 V3 O12 :xSm3+ phosphors exhibited a multi-color emission band under 365 nm near-ultraviolet (near-UV) light, consisting of the green emission of the (VO4 )3- groups and sharp emission peaks at 570 nm (yellow), 618 nm (orange), 657 nm (red), and 714 nm (deep red) of Sm3+ ions. The optimal doping concentration of Sm3+ ions was found to be 0.05 mol%, and the dipole-dipole (d-d) interaction was primarily responsible for the concentration quenching phenomenon. Using the acquired Na2 YMg2 V3 O12 :Sm3+ phosphors, commercial BaMgAl10 O17 :Eu2+ blue phosphor, and a near-UV light-emitting diode (LED) chip, a white-LED lamp was designed and packaged. It produced bright neutral white light, manifesting a CIE coordinate of (0.314, 0.373), a color rendering index (CRI) of 84.9, and a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 6377 K. These findings indicate the potential of Na2 YMg2 V3 O12 :Sm3+ phosphor to be used as a multi-color component for solid-state illumination.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the biological mechanisms underlying the effect of the Chinese herbal medicine Oxalis corniculata on human prostate cancer PC-3 cells. METHODS: Through in vitro experiment, we treated human prostate cancer PC-3 cells with different concentrations of Oxalis corniculata, assessed the viability of the cells by MTT assay, examined their apoptosis by flow cytometry, evaluated their migration and invasiveness by Transwell assay, and determined the expressions of the proteins p65, p-p65, IκBα and p-IκBα in the NF-κB pathway using protein imprinting technology. RESULTS: Compared with the blank control, Oxalis corniculata significantly inhibited the proliferation and induced the apoptosis of the PC-3 cells (P< 0.05), suppressed their migration and invasiveness in a dose-dependent manner (P< 0.05), and upregulated the expression of IκBα and downregulated those of p-p65 and p-IκBα in the NF-κB pathway (P< 0.05). CONCLUSION: Oxalis corniculata can inhibit the proliferation, migration and invasiveness and induce the apoptosis of human prostate cancer PC cells, which may be attributed to its abilities of inhibiting the expressions of p-p65 and p-IκBα and regulating the activity of the NF-κB pathway.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the diagnostic efficacy of AI-guided mpMRI-TRUS fusion assisted transperineal systematic biopsy, targeted biopsy and combined biopsy in the diagnosis of PCa, and to evaluate the clinical application value of combined biopsy. METHODS: From April 2022, the general personal information and clinical data of patients with suspicious prostate lesions (PI-RADS≥3) detected by 3.0T mpMRI were collected, then underwent AI-guided mpMRI-TRUS fusion-assisted transperineal prostate biopsy. The data included age, PSA level, PV, PSAD, PI-RADS score, Gleason score of biopsy tissue, etc. The mpMRI image data were imported into the real-time fusion imaging system before biopsy. After image fusion, the suspected PCa lesion was taken as the target, 2 to 3 cores of targeted biopsy were first performed, then 12 cores of systematic biopsy were continued. The results of targeted biopsy + systematic biopsy were defined as the results of combined biopsy. The detection rate of PCa, CsPCa and pathological Gleason score were compared among different biopsy methods, and the diagnostic efficacy in different PI-RADS score groups was further evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 118 PCa cases were detected in 220 patients enrolled in this study. The PCa detection rates of systematic biopsy and targeted biopsy were 40.45% and 43.64%, the result reveals no statistical significance (P=0.562). The PCa detection rate of combined biopsy was 53.64%, higher than single biopsy method and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The detection rates of CsPCa in systematic biopsy and targeted biopsy were 28.18% and 37.27% which reveals significant statistical difference (P=0.042). The CsPCa detection rate of combined biopsy was 41.82%, higher than single biopsy method, the difference was statistically significant compared with systematic biopsy (P=0.003), but was not compared with targeted biopsy (P=0.330). In PI-RADS score 3 group, the PCa detection rate of systematic biopsy and targeted biopsy was 39.29% and 21.43%, which reveals no statistical significance (P=0.146). The PCa detection rate of combined biopsy was 50%, higher than single biopsy method, the difference was statistically significant compared with targeted biopsy (P=0.026), but was not compared with systematic biopsy (P=0.420). In PI-RADS 4 ~5 group, the PCa detection rate of systematic biopsy and targeted biopsy was 40.10%, and 46.88% which reveals no statistical significance (P=0.181). The PCa detection rate of combined biopsy was 54.17%, higher than single biopsy method, the difference was statistically significant compared with systematic biopsy (P=0.006), but was not compared with targeted biopsy (P=0.153). Among PCa patients detected by both systematic and targeted biopsy, 39 had concordant pathologic Gleason scores, 13 had escalating pathologic Gleason scores for systematic biopsy, and 18 had escalating pathologic Gleason scores for targeted biopsy. CONCLUSION: Compared with systematic biopsy, AI-guided mpMRI-TRUS image fusion assisted transperineal targeted prostate biopsy has a higher detection rate of CsPCa and is probably closer to the true pathological Gleason score. Compared with single biopsy, combined biopsy has higher diagnostic efficiency for PCa, which can be used as one of the options of prostate biopsy in clinical practice.

RESUMO

The urban alternate water source (AWS) is of great significance to the sustainable development of the city, the pollution degree, and source of heavy metals (HMs) in AWS, and whether it will adversely affect human health has received widespread attention. In this study, the urban AWS of Xinbian River in Suzhou City, Huaibei Plain, China, was used as the research object to study the seasonal changes of HMs (As, Cr, Cu, Cd, Pb, and Zn), quantitative identification of pollution sources, and human health risks (HHR). Research results show that the contents of those HMs, except As, are less than the drinking standards limit set by the World Health Organization (WHO), and the contents of As, Cr, and Zn are the largest in summer. The multivariate statistical analysis combined with positive matrix factorization (PMF) model analysis revealed that industrial sources accounted for 44.83%, and agricultural sources accounted for 55.17%. HHR assessment based on Monte Carlo simulation shows that the noncarcinogenic risks of adults and children are in the acceptable range (hazardous ingestion (HI) < 1), and the probability of carcinogenic risk values of children and adults are 95.03% and 38.96%, respectively, which are exceed the acceptable range (1 × 10-4) recommended by the United States Environment Protection Agency (USEPA). Approximately 30.75% of the carcinogenic risk value of agricultural source HMs to children exceeds the acceptable range (1 × 10-4). The above research results indicate that the effect of agricultural non-point source pollution on AWS should be prevented.

RESUMO

Objective This study aimed to assess the protective value of adiponectin (APN) in pancreatic islet injury induced by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH). Methods Sixty rats were randomly divided into three groups: normal control (NC) group, CIH group, and CIH with APN supplement (CIH+APN) group. After 5 weeks of CIH exposure, we conducted oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTT) and insulin released test (IRT), examined and compared the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) levels, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, enzymes gene expression levels of Ant1, Cs, Hmox1, and Cox4i1 which represented mitochondrial tricarboxylic acid cycle function, the protein and gene expression levels of DRP1, FIS1, MFN1, and OPA1 which represented mitochondrial fusion and division, and the protein expression levels of BAX, BCL-2, cleaved Caspase-3, and cleaved PARP which represented mitochondrial associated apoptosis pathway of pancreatic islet. Results OGTT and IRT showed blood glucose and insulin levels had no differences among the NC, CIH and CIH+APN groups (both P>0.05) at 0 min, 20 min, 30 min, 60 min, 120 min. However, we found that compared to NC group, CIH increased the ROS level, reduced ATP level and MMP level. The islets of CIH exposed rats showed reduced gene expression levels of Ant1, Cs, Hmox1, and Cox4i1, decreased protein and gene expression levels of MFN1 and OPA1, increased protein and gene expression levels of DRP1 and FIS1, increased protein expression levels of cleaved Caspase-3 and cleaved PARP, with lower ratio of BCL-2/BAX at protein expression level. All the differences among three groups were statistically significant. APN treated CIH rats showed mitigated changes in the above measurements associated with islet injuries. Conclusion APN may ameliorate the pancreatic islet injury induced by CIH via inhibiting the imbalance in mitochondrial fusion and division.

RESUMO

Associations between vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms and allergic diseases were already reported by many publications. The aim of this meta-analysis was to clarify associations between VDR gene polymorphisms and allergic diseases by combing the results of all relevant publications. Eligible publications were searched from Pubmed, Embase, WOS and CNKI. We used Review Manager to combine the results of individual studies. Twenty-one studies were included in this study. Combined results proved that VDR rs1544410 BsmI (over-dominant comparison: p = .04, OR = 1.14, 95% CI 1.01-1.29; allele comparison: p = .03, OR = 1.11, 95% CI 1.01-1.22) and rs731236 TaqI (dominant comparison: p = .01, OR = 1.18, 95% CI 1.04-1.33) polymorphisms were both associated with allergic diseases. In subgroup analyses by type of disease, we confirmed positive results for rs1544410 BsmI polymorphism in both asthma and atopic dermatitis, and for rs731236 TaqI polymorphism in atopic dermatitis. Besides, in subgroup by ethnicity of participants, we observed significant associations with allergic diseases for rs7975232 ApaI polymorphism in Caucasians, for rs1544410 BsmI polymorphism in Asians and Caucasians, and for rs731236 TaqI polymorphism in Asians. We also investigated associations between VDR rs2228570 FokI polymorphism and allergic diseases, yet no any positive results were detected for this polymorphism. If we only focused on asthma, then positive findings were detected for rs1544410 BsmI polymorphism in Caucasians, and for rs731236 TaqI polymorphism in Asians. Collectively, this meta-analysis proved that VDR rs7975232 ApaI, rs1544410 BsmI and rs731236 TaqI gene polymorphisms may confer susceptibility to allergic diseases in certain populations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The incidence of insufficiency fracture (IF) at femoral neck is low, accounting for about 5% of all insufficiency fractures, and IF at bilateral femoral neck is less common with more occurrence in athlete or serviceman. With the aging of populations, more cases of bilateral femoral neck IF have occurred recently, while the standard clinical treatment still remains lacking due to the complexity of these patients. CASE PRESENTATION: A 55-year-old male patient complained pain in his bilateral hip, with no history of trauma, glucocorticoid hormone consumption or radiotherapy, and imaging examination revealed fracture nonunion and shortening in his left femoral neck, and double fracture line on the right femoral neck. The patient received a cementless THA for the left femoral neck fracture and conservative treatment for the right side, followed by Elcatonin injection and oral administration of Carbonate D3 Granules. After 4 months of fellow-up, the patient presented improved functional scorings in bilateral hip joints, with no signs of prothesis infection or loosening. CONCLUSION: We present a rare case of bilateral femoral neck IF in a middle-aged male and the treatment is successful. The timely CT and MRI examinations of bilateral hip joints for patients was necessary for orthopedists to select proper therapeutic regimen. In addition, the choice for therapeutic regimen of bilateral femoral IF should not only be based on the professional judgement of orthopedists, but also on the wishes of patients.

RESUMO

The fabrication and luminescent performance of novel phosphors Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ were investigated by a conventional solid-state reaction method. Under near-UV light, the Na2YMg2V3O12 host self-activated and released a broad emission band (400-700 nm, with a peak at 524 nm) ascribable to charge transfer in the (VO4)3- groups. Meanwhile, the Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphors emitted bright yellow light within both the broad emission band of the (VO4)3- groups and the sharp peaks of the Dy3+ ions at 490, 582, and 663 nm at a quenching concentration of 0.03 mol. The emission of the as-prepared Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphors remained stable at high temperatures. The obtained phosphors, commercial Y2O3:Eu3+ red phosphors, and BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ blue phosphors were packed into a white light-emitting diode (WLED) device with a near-UV chip. The designed WLED emitted bright white light with good chromaticity coordinates (0.331, 0.361), satisfactory color rendering index (80.2), and proper correlation to a color temperature (7364 K). These results indicate the potential utility of Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphor as a yellow-emitting phosphor in solid-state illumination.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the association between interleukin-8 (IL-8) rs4073 polymorphisms and susceptibility to sepsis in full-term neonates through a prospective study. METHODS: A total of 50 neonates who were diagnosed with sepsis based on positive blood culture from January to December 2017 were enrolled as the sepsis group. Fifty neonates who had clinical symptoms and negative blood culture were enrolled as the clinical sepsis group. Fifty neonates without infection were enrolled as the control group. Sequencing was used to detect the polymorphisms of IL-8 rs4073. The three groups were compared in terms of the frequencies of genotypes and alleles. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the association of IL-8 rs4073 genotypes with sepsis in full-term neonates. RESULTS: There were significant differences in the frequencies of genotypes and alleles at IL-8 rs4073 among the three groups (P<0.05). The logistic regression analysis showed that a low gestational age and TT genotype at IL-8 rs4073 were risk factors for the pathogenesis of sepsis in neonates (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The full-term neonates with TT genotype at IL-8 rs4073 may be susceptible to sepsis.

RESUMO

Acid-washed activated carbon (AC-A), nitric acid modified activated carbon (AC-NO2), aminated activated carbon (AC-NH2) and cerium-loaded activated carbon (Ce/AC) were prepared and characterized by BET procedure, Boehm titration and SEM. Their performances were investigated for the ozonation of p-chlorobenzoic acid (p-CBA) in its solution and organic compounds in reverse osmosis concentrate (ROC). Nitration and amination had little effect on the surface area of catalyst, but increased the concentration of surface acid and basic functional group respectively. After loading Ce, the surface area of the catalyst decreased, and amount of Ce particles were agglomerated on the surface of activated carbon. All the four catalysts can improve the removal rate of the organics in water. Among the four catalysts, Ce/AC shows the highest catalytic activity. The removal rates of p-CBA, TOC and three target pollutants (e.g., tetracycline, metoprolol, atrazine) are 99.6%, 70.38%, 97.76%, 96.21% and 96.03%, respectively. Hydroxyl radical (·OH) was proved to be the core of catalytic reaction mechanism for Ce/AC, with the contribution rate to p-CBA removal of 91.4%. The surface groups and the Ce loaded on AC were the initiator for the rapid generation of ·OH. Electron transfer between electron-rich structures and cerium oxide might be a synergistic effect that can increase catalytic activity of Ce loaded on AC. Catalytic ozonation with Ce/AC is a promising ROC treatment technology due to its efficiency and possibilities for improvement.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is the most common cancer among women in Nepal. The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 and or HPV 18 among women with cervical pre-cancer and cancer is higher than the incidence of HPV in the world population. The population-based epidemiological data of HPV in the general population in most parts of the country remains unknown. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and type distribution of HPV infection and association of abnormal cytology with high risk HPV infection among women in mid-western rural, Nepal. METHODS: A population-based cross sectional study was conducted in Jumla, one of the most remote districts in Nepal. A total of 1050 cervical samples were collected from married and non- pregnant women aged 20-65 years during mobile Cervical Cancer Screening Clinics conducted from May 2016 to January 2017. The presence of HPV DNA was firstly confirmed by HPV consensus PCR using PGMY09/PGMY11 designed primers, then HPV positive samples were further genotyped by the membrane hybridization method to detect the 21 high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) and low-risk HPV types. The prevalence of HR-HPV among women with normal and abnormal cytology was calculated. Data were analyzed using SPSS software for Windows. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: A total of 998 women were eligible for this study with the mean age 32.6 ± 8.6 years, and the mean marital age was 16.7 ± 3.8 years. The overall prevalence of HPV infections was 19.7%. HR-HPV and low-risk HPV were 11.7 and 8.7% respectively. The six most common HR-HPV types were HPV16, 39, 58, 33, 51 and 18. HR-HPV infection among the women with abnormal and normal cytology was of 27.3 and 10.8% respectively. CONCLUSIONS: There was a higher prevalence of HR-HPV infection among women living in Jumla than other parts of Nepal. This study provides preliminary information on overall HPV and type-specific HR-HPV prevalence, HR-HPV 16, 39, 58, 33, 51, and 18 are the most prevalent genotypes in this region. The data contribute to the epidemiological knowledge about HPV and type-specific HR-HPV genotypes prevalence in mid-Western Nepal.

RESUMO

The hardness and microorganism contamination are common problems of water quality around the world. Capacitive deionization (CDI) is a much-discussed solution to help solve the water crisis by providing efficient water softening while killing microorganism. Carboxylic (Na) cation-exchange fiber (CCEF) is an adsorbent material with good affinity for hardness ions. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is a broad-spectrum microbicide. In this paper, the CCEF modified activated carbon (CCEF-AC) was used as cathode and showed excellent hardness ion adsorption selectivity at the optimum CCEF doping level (αCa2+/Na of 15.0, αMg2+/Na of 13.5). Its electrosorption capacity of Ca2+ reached 311 µmol/g, much higher than that of the AC cathode (188 µmol/g). It also showed good regenerable performance, retaining over 85 % of Ca2+ electrosorption capacity after 50 cycles stability test. The activated carbon modified with AgNPs (AC-Ag) was used as anode. When enhanced by an electric field, it could kill bacteria and microalgae with over 99 % and 90 % inhibition rates, respectively. This work has opened up a new way to simultaneously remove multiple pollutants (organic or inorganic) from water.

RESUMO

Background: Mycoplasma hominis (M. hominis) commonly colonizes the genitourinary tract of adult women and may result in neonatal meningitis through vertical transmission. Although there are few case reports, if the treatment is not conducted timely, the disease progresses rapidly, which may lead to serious complications and a poor prognosis. Case presentation: In the present study, a 10-day-old full-term neonate who presented with fever as the initial symptom and was eventually diagnosed with meningitis caused by M. hominis was reported. In the present case, the pathogen was not detected during the initial routine investigations, and the therapeutic effects of empiric antibiotic therapy were poor. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was conducted with the detection of M. hominis, and the antibiotics were adjusted to moxifloxacin combined with doxycycline. The clinical symptoms of the pediatric patient disappeared with an improvement in related laboratory results. Conclusion: It was difficult to detect M. hominis by routine bacterial culture. Therefore, M. hominis infection should be checked for in children with meningitis who had a negative result in CSF culture and poor therapeutic effects of empirical medication. mNGS in CSF should be conducted as soon as possible, and sensitive antibiotics should be administered in time to reduce the incidence of complications and improve the prognosis.

RESUMO

Ovarian cancer (OC) ranks as the second leading cause of death among gynecological cancers. Numerous studies have indicated a correlation between the tumor microenvironment (TME) and the clinical response to treatment in OC patients. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), a crucial component of the TME, exert influence on invasion, metastasis, and recurrence in OC patients. To delve deeper into the role of TAMs in OC, this study conducted an extensive analysis of single-cell data from OC patients. The aim is to develop a new risk score (RS) to characterize the response to treatment in OC patients to inform clinical treatment. We first identified TAM-associated genes (TAMGs) in OC patients and examined the protein and mRNA expression levels of TAMGs by Western blot and PCR experiments. Additionally, a scoring system for TAMGs was constructed, successfully categorizing patients into high and low RS subgroups. Remarkably, significant disparities were observed in immune cell infiltration and immunotherapy response between the high and low RS subgroups. The findings revealed that patients in the high RS group had a poorer prognosis but displayed greater sensitivity to immunotherapy. Another important finding was that patients in the high RS subgroup had a higher IC50 for chemotherapeutic agents. Furthermore, further experimental investigations led to the discovery that THEMIS2 could serve as a potential target in OC patients and is associated with EMT (epithelial-mesenchymal transition). Overall, the TAMGs-based scoring system holds promise for screening patients who would benefit from therapy and provides valuable information for the clinical treatment of OC.

RESUMO

Being the target of negative school gossip, a form of relational aggression, has been shown to be associated with psychological and behavioral problems in youth adolescents. Based on the experience avoidance model, this study tested the association between negative school gossip and youth adolescents' mobile phone addiction, and the serial mediation roles of anxiety and experience avoidance in this relationship. Junior high school students (N = 837; ages 12-15; 50% girls) completed the Negative School Gossip Scale, Anxiety Scale, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (AAQ-II), and Mobile Phone Addiction Scale in their classrooms. The results of regression-based analyses showed that after controlling for age and gender, (1) negative school gossip was significantly associated with mobile phone addiction; (2) anxiety and experience avoidance each significantly mediated this association; (3) anxiety and experience avoidance serially mediated this association. The results support the experience avoidance model and highlight emotional factors as an internal mechanism by which negative school gossip is associated with youth adolescents' mobile phone addiction. The results also have implications for preventing and reducing youth adolescents' mobile phone addiction.
