RESUMO

Stretchable electronics have attracted tremendous attention amongst academic and industrial communities due to their prospective applications in personal healthcare, human-activity monitoring, artificial skins, wearable displays, human-machine interfaces, etc. Other than mechanical robustness, stable performances under complex strains in these devices that are not for strain sensing are equally important for practical applications. Here, a comprehensive summarization of recent advances in stretchable electronics with strain-resistive performance is presented. First, detailed overviews of intrinsically strain-resistive stretchable materials, including conductors, semiconductors, and insulators, are given. Then, systematic representations of advanced structures, including helical, serpentine, meshy, wrinkled, and kirigami-based structures, for strain-resistive performance are summarized. Next, stretchable arrays and circuits with strain-resistive performance, that integrate multiple functionalities and enable complex behaviors, are introduced. This review presents a detailed overview of recent progress in stretchable electronics with strain-resistive performances and provides a guideline for the future development of stretchable electronics.

RESUMO

Solution-processed organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) are regarded as the promising candidates for low-cost gas sensors due to their advantages of high throughput, large-area and sensitive to various gas analytes. Microstructure control of organic active layers in OTFTs is an effective route to improve the sensing performance. In this work, we report a simple method to modify the morphology of 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) thin films via doping gold nanorods (Au NRs) for enhancing the performance of the corresponding OTFT sensors for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) detection. With the optimized doping ratio of Au nanorods, the TIPS-pentacene OTFT snesors not only exhibit a 3-fold increase in mobility, but also obtain a high sensitivity of 70% to 18 ppm NO2with a detection limit of 270 ppb. The microstructures and morphologies of the modified TIPS-pentacene thin film characterized by atomic force microscopy and field scanning electron microscope. The experimental results indicate that the proper addition of Au NRs could effectively regulate the grain size of TIPS-pentacene, and therein control the density of grain boundaries during the crystallization, which is essential for the high-performance gas sensors.

RESUMO

The microstructure of the organic semiconductor (OSC) active layer is one of the crucial topics to improve the sensing performance of gas sensors. Herein, we introduce a simple solvent vapor annealing (SVA) process to control 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)-pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) OSC films morphology and thus yields high-sensitivity nitrogen organic thin-film transistor (OTFT)-based nitrogen dioxide (NO2) sensors. Compared to pristine devices, the toluene SVA-treated devices exhibit an order of magnitude responsivity enhancement to 10 ppm NO2, further with a limit of detection of 148 ppb. Systematic studies on the microstructure of the TIPS-pentacene films reveal the large density grain boundaries formed by the SVA process, improving the capability for the adsorption of gas molecules, thus causing high-sensitivity to NO2. This simple SVA processing strategy provides an effective and reliable access for realizing high-sensitivity OTFT NO2 sensors.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED:  Background and aim. Leukocyte antigen DQ (HLA-DQ) and interferon-λ4 (IFNL4) gene polymorphisms were associated with susceptibility to chronic hepatitis B and C virus infection. This study further confirmed that variants of these genes were associated with susceptibility and spontaneous clearance of HBV infection in a Chinese population. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 1,069 subjects were recruited and divided into three groups i.e. 397 with CLD (HBV-related chronic liver disease), 434 with SC (spontaneous clearance), and 238 HC (healthy controls). HLA-DQrs9275319 and IFNL4rs368234815, rs12971396, rs12979860, and rs8099917SNPs were genotyped using the Sequenom MassARRAY MALDI-TOF system. RESULTS: HLA-DQ rs9275319 showed a significant association with HBV infection (allele model, OR, 0.514; 95% CI, 0.359-0.738, adjusted p = 0.0003) and with natural clearance (allele model, OR, 1.659; 95% CI, 1.197-2.300, adjusted. However, there was no association between IFNL4 polymorphism and HBV susceptibility or natural clearance (all p > 0.05). The multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) test with permutation correction showed that a three-way interaction between IFNL4 and HLA-DQ SNPs was identified for HBV susceptibility (permutation p = 0.009 for the best factor model) and clearance (permutation p = 0.014 for the best factor model). CONCLUSIONS: The data from the current study provided additional evidence for an SNP-SNP interaction between HLA-DQ and IFNL4 in regulation to HBV infection and natural clearance.

RESUMO

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of HLA-DQ and granulysin (GNLY) are reportedly associated with HBV infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of interactions between SNPs in HLA-DQ and GNLY on the outcome of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Chinese Han subjects. HLA-DQ (rs9275572) and GNLY (rs1866139 and rs11127) were genotyped in 310 subjects with HBV-related chronic liver disease, 295 in whom spontaneous clearance of HBV had occurred and 316 who had not been exposed to HBV. HLA-DQ rs9275572 was significantly correlated with HBV clearance (dominant genetic model: OR, 1.84; 95% CI, 1.30-2.61; adjusted P = 0.001). There was no statistical association of GNLY rs1866139 and rs11127with HBV infection outcomes. However, significant sex-specific associations with HBV susceptibility were observed in men who carried rs1866139 CG or rs11127 TC and in women who carried rs1866139 GG or rs11127 CC. The findings were the same in the validation cohort, which was composed of 829 subjects. Based on a multifactor dimensionality reduction test with permutation correction, a three-way interaction between SNPs in HLA-DQ and GNLY was identified in terms of HBV clearance. In conclusion, additional evidence for an association of HLA-DQ and GNLY SNPs with HBV infection outcomes has been identified and a SNP-SNP interaction between HLA-DQ and GNLY on HBV clearance observed.

RESUMO

A critical challenge lies in the development of the next-generation neural interface, in mechanically tissue-compatible fashion, that offer accurate, transient recording electrophysiological (EP) information and autonomous degradation after stable operation. Here, an ultrathin, lightweight, soft and multichannel neural interface is presented based on organic-electrochemical-transistor-(OECT)-based network, with capabilities of continuous high-fidelity mapping of neural signals and biosafety active degrading after performing functions. Such platform yields a high spatiotemporal resolution of 1.42 ms and 20 µm, with signal-to-noise ratio up to ≈37 dB. The implantable OECT arrays can well establish stable functional neural interfaces, designed as fully biodegradable electronic platforms in vivo. Demonstrated applications of such OECT implants include real-time monitoring of electrical activities from the cortical surface of rats under various conditions (e.g., narcosis, epileptic seizure, and electric stimuli) and electrocorticography mapping from 100 channels. This technology offers general applicability in neural interfaces, with great potential utility in treatment/diagnosis of neurological disorders.

RESUMO

Fabrication of organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) via high throughput solution process routes have attracted extensive attention. Herein, we report a simple one-step coating method for vertical phase separation of the poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) blends as semiconducting and dielectric layers in OTFTs. These OTFTs can be used as phototransistors for ultraviolet (UV) light detection, where the phototransistors exhibited great photosensitivity of 597.6 mA/W and detectivity of 4.25 × 1010 Jones under 1 mW/cm2 UV light intensity. Studies of the electrical properties in these phototransistors suggested that optimized P3HT contents in the blend film can facilitate the improvement of film morphology, and therefore form optimized vertical phase separation of the PMMA and P3HT. These results indicate that the simple one-step fabrication method creates possibilities for realizing high throughput phototransistors with great photosensitivity.

RESUMO

Formation of the semiconductor/dielectric double-layered films via vertical phase separations from polymer blends is an effective method to fabricate organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). Here, we introduce a simple one-step processing method for the vertical phase separation of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) blends in OTFTs and their applications for high-performance nitrogen dioxide (NO2) sensors. Compared to the conventional two-step coated OTFT sensors, one-step processed devices exhibit a great enhancement of the responsivity from 116 to 1481% for 30 ppm NO2 concentration and a limit of detection of ∼0.7 ppb. Studies of the microstructures of the blend films and the electrical properties of the sensors reveal that the devices formed by the one-step vertical phase separation have better capability for the adsorption of NO2 molecules. Moreover, a careful adjustment of the blend ratio between P3HT and PMMA can further improve the performance of the NO2 sensors, ranging from sensitivity to selectivity and to the ability of recovery. This simple one-step processing method demonstrates a potential possibility for developing high-performance, low-cost, and large-area OTFT gas sensors.

RESUMO

Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) sensors based on organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) were fabricated by conventional annealing (horizontal) and vertical annealing processes of organic semiconductor (OSC) films. The NO2 responsivity of OTFTs to 15 ppm of NO2 is 1408% under conditions of vertical annealing and only 72% when conventional annealing is applied. Moreover, gas sensors obtained by vertical annealing achieve a high sensing performance of 589% already at 1 ppm of NO2, while showing a preferential response to NO2 compared with SO2, NH3, CO, and H2S. To analyze the mechanism of performance improvement of OTFT gas sensors, the morphologies of 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)-pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) films were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) in tapping mode. The results show that, in well-aligned TIPS-pentacene films, a large number of effective grain boundaries inside the conducting channel contribute to the enhancement of NO2 gas sensing performance.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that multiple inhibitory genes play an important role in HBV-specific CD8+ T cell exhaustion and dysfunction in the setting of chronic HBV infection. Polymorphic variants of these genes are thought to be predisposing factors for HBV susceptibility, clearance, and disease progression. The aim of this retrospective study was to identify variants affecting chronic HBV infection in a Chinese Han population. METHODS: We chose 28 tgSNPs from HapMap data on 5 key genes. They were genotyped on a total of 858 chronic HBV patients, 429 patients who underwent spontaneous recovery, and 239 healthy controls. We evaluated the correlation between the polymorphisms and HBV susceptibility, spontaneous clearance, and disease progression. RESULTS: The association of rs3827537 of BIM genotype TA and allele A was significantly different (P=0.016, OR=2.049; P=0.031, OR=1.925) between HBV patients and healthy controls. The rs36084323 of PD-1, as well as rs3766377, rs485618, rs4656942 of CD244 showed significant associations with the risk for HBV-related cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (P=0.009, OR=0.482; P=0.009, OR=4.573; P=0.015, OR=0.580; P=0.028, OR=2.855). MDR analysis revealed that the four SNPs (rs36084323, rs3766377, rs485618, rs4656942) modulated the predisposition to cirrhosis and HCC in patients with chronic HBV infection (P=0.006). Using a luciferase reporter assay, we demonstrated that various alleles of rs3766377 had differential effects, and rs3766377 and rs485618 might have interactive effects. CONCLUSIONS: The present study reveals genetic associations among PD-1 and CD244 variants that may be involved in the development of cirrhosis and HCC in patients with chronic HBV infection. The BIM variant was associated with HBV susceptibility.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing 3 (PNPLA3) genes (rs738409) is associated with the severity of fibrosis and cirrhosis in patients with fatty liver disease. However, in a small group of Italian patients, there was no significant correlation between the rs738409 SNP and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection-associated liver cirrhosis. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate whether PNPLA3 polymorphisms are a risk factor for liver cirrhosis in a Chinese Han population with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study population consisted of 344 Chinese Han patients with CHB, among which 203 presented with liver cirrhosis (LC group) and 141 had no sign of liver cirrhosis (CHB group). TaqMan genotyping assay was used to investigate the association of two PNPLA3 SNPs (rs738409 and rs2281135) with the risk of liver cirrhosis. RESULTS: The allele and genotype distributions of PNPLA3 rs738409 and rs2281135 were not significantly different between the CHB and LC groups. After segregation on the basis of sex, no significant correlation between PNPLA3 (rs738409 and rs2281135) genotypes/alleles and liver cirrhosis was detected. Moreover, none of the haplotypes in PNPLA3 (rs738409 and rs2281135) was found to be statistically different between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed no association between PNPLA3 polymorphisms (rs738409 and rs2281135) and the susceptibility to HBV-related liver cirrhosis in a Chinese Han population.
