RESUMO

The lack of acid-proof high-potential cathode largely limits the development and competitiveness of proton batteries. Herein, the authors systematically investigated six dihydroxynaphthalenes (DHNs) and found that 2,6-DHN delivered the best cathode performance in proton battery with the highest redox potential (0.84 V, vs SHE) and a specific capacity of 91.6 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1 . In situ solid-state electropolymerization of DHNs is responsible for the voltage and capacity fading of DHNs, and 2,6-DHN's excellent electrochemical performance is derived from its high polymerization energy barrier. By compounding with rGO, the 2,6-DHN/rGO electrode can maintain a specific capacity of 89 mAh g-1 even after 12 000 cycles at 5 A g-1 . When it is paired with the 2,6-dihydroxyanthraquinone (DHAQ) anode, the assembled rocking-chair all-organic proton battery exhibited a high cell voltage of 0.85 V, and excellent energy/power densities (70.8 Wh kg-1 /850 W kg-1 ). This study showcases a new-type high-potential proton-containing organic cathode and paves the way for constructing a high-voltage rocking-chair proton battery. Also, in situ solid-state electropolymerization will inspire the further study of phenol-based small-molecule electrodes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The risk factors associated with niche on the cesarean scar have been reported, however, the degree of these factors associated with large niche and the accumulation effects of these risk factors on the development of large niche are unclear. METHODS: Large niche was evaluated by transvaginal sonography during mid-follicular phase. Logistic regression model was used to assess 32 risk factors by univariate analysis. Then, a scoring model based on the screened risk factors was generated. The performance of this model was evaluated by area under curve (AUC). Finally, the scoring model was applied in 123 women to assess the external validation. RESULT(S): In the training cohort study, 163 women were diagnosed with large niche. The final scoring model involves eight risk factors with the rating scores including age at delivery (30-34 years: 1 point; ≥ 35 years: 4.5 points), retroflexed uterus (8.5 points), meconium-stained amniotic fluid (4.5 points), twice CSs (4.0 points), postpartum endometritis (4.5 points), premature rupture of membranes (2.5 points), intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (mild to moderate: 3 points; severe: 6.5 points), and cervical dilatation (1-3 cm: 2.0 points; 4-10 cm: 4.5 points). The accumulation effect with a cut-off value of 8.0 in the scoring was associated with the large niche after CS. CONCLUSION(S): This is the first scoring model to objectively quantify the risk of a large niche after CS. Optimal risk factors control by avoiding high score factors and multiple factors accumulation may eliminate the risk of large niche development.

RESUMO

Benefiting from the proton's small size and ultrahigh mobility in water, aqueous proton batteries are regarded as an attractive candidate for high-power and ultralow-temperature energy storage devices. Herein, a new-type C4 N polymer with uniform micropores and a large specific surface area is prepared by sulfuric acid-catalyzed ketone amine condensation reaction and employed as the electrode of proton batteries. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) are introduced to induce the in situ growth of C4 N, and reaped significantly enhanced porosity and conductivity, and thus better both room- and low-temperature performance. When coupled with MnO2 @Carbon fiber (MnO2 @CF) cathode, MnO2 @CF//C4 N-50% MWCNT full battery shows unprecedented cycle stability with a capacity retention of 98% after 11 000 cycles at 10 A g-1 and even 100% after 70 000 cycles at 20 A g-1 . Additionally, a novel anti-freezing electrolyte (5 m H2 SO4  + 0.5 m MnSO4 ) is developed and showed a high ionic conductivity of 123.2 mS cm-1 at -70 °C. The resultant MnO2 @CF//C4 N-50% MWCNT battery delivers a specific capacity of 110.5 mAh g-1 even at -70 °C at 1 A g-1 , the highest in all reported proton batteries under the same conditions. This work is expected to offer a package solution for constructing high-performance ultralow-temperature aqueous proton batteries.

RESUMO

Carbon dots (CDs) with long-lived room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) or long afterglow properties draw much attention. However, most room-temperature phosphorescent materials are metal containing, and the exploitation of long-lived color-tunable RTP materials faces great challenges. Here, we report metal-free boron-doped CDs (B-CDs) for room-temperature phosphorescence with tunable color and an ultralong lifetime. B-CDs were obtained by simply calcining a mixture of boric acid and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid in the atmosphere. The as-prepared B-CDs were characterized through UV-vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and so forth. Under the excitation of 310 nm UV light, B-CDs show RTP that appears as blue with a phosphorescence lifetime of 1042 ms, and after switching the excited wavelength to 365 nm, the RTP appears as green with a phosphorescence lifetime of 590 ms. Due to the unique RTP properties, B-CDs display promising applications in anticounterfeiting and information encryption.

RESUMO

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are widespread and persistent environmental contaminants, but their association with nodular goiter (NG) remains unknown. The present case-control study of 179 NG cases and 358 matched normal controls aimed to investigate the association between PBDEs and risk of NG. The plasma concentrations of 8 PBDEs congeners (BDE-28, -47, -99, -100, -153, -154, -183, and -209) were determined by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. Conditional logistic regression model was used to evaluate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the association between each PBDEs congener and NG. Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) was used to evaluate the association between overall levels of 8 PBDEs mixture and NG. The results of logistic model suggested that increased risk of NG was associated with elevated concentrations of all PBDEs congeners, except for BDE-209. In BKMR model, the risk of NG increased with the increase in overall exposure level of 8 PBDEs mixture. Compared to when all PBDEs mixture were at their median value, the risk of exposure-response function for NG increased by 0.34 units when all PBDEs were at their 75th percentile. In women, the results showed similar trends after additional adjustment for age at menarche and menopausal status. These findings provide novel epidemiological evidence for the prevention of NG. However, larger prospective studies are required to address the associations between PBDEs exposure and NG risk.

RESUMO

Recently, elevated blood pressure (BP) and hypertension (HTN) have caused a huge burden of health loss. Previous studies used ambient air pollutants as a proxy for individual exposure, limiting the assessment of its multiple exposure to health effects. For the first time, this study constructed individual PM2.5 component (SO42-, NO3-, NH4+, OM, and BC) exposure model DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph), DAG-oriented generalized linear model and random forest model, and explored the effects of single and multiple exposures to PM2.5 components on BP at different stages by the generalized linear model (GLM) and Quantile g-Computation (QgC) model based on a large cohort study in China. We defined BP in four stages according to the 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines. After excluding the lack of key information, the cohort analyses ultimately included 9031 participants. Our results showed that the individual PM2.5 component exposure model had good efficacy. Single or multiple exposure to PM2.5 components had significant positive effects on normal BP to elevated BP and elevated BP to stage 1 HTN. In addition, males, the elderly and urban residents were more sensitive to PM2.5 components. This study provided implications for environmental exposure assessment and control of particulate pollution in the future.

RESUMO

Hypertension (HTN) was a major preventable cause of cardiovascular disease (CVD), contributing to a huge disease burden. Ambient temperature, air pollution and green space were important influencing factors of HTN, and few studies have assessed the effects and interactions of ambient temperature, air pollution and green space on HTN in rural areas. In this study, we selected 8400 individuals randomly in rural areas of Anhui Province by a multi-stage stratified cluster sampling. A total of 8383 individuals were included in the final analysis. We collected particulate pollutants and meteorological data from the local air quality monitoring stations and National Center for Meteorological Science from January 1 to December 31, 2020, respectively. The normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) of Anhui Province in 2020 was produced and processed by remote sensing inversion on the basis of medium resolution satellite images. The average annual mean exposure concentrations of air pollution, meteorological factors, and NDVI were calculated for each individual based on the geocoded residential address. HTN was defined according the Chinese Guidelines for Prevention and Treatment of HTN. The effects and interactions of ambient temperature, air pollution and green space on HTN were evaluated by generalized linear model and interaction model, respectively. In this study, the prevalence of HTN was 24.14%. The adjusted odd ratio of HTN for each 1 µg/m3 increasing in PM2.5 and PM10, 1 °C of ambient temperature, and 0.1 of NDVI were:1.276 (1.013, 1.043), 1.012 (1.006, 1.018), 0.862 (0.862, 0.981) and 0.669 (0.611, 0.733), respectively. The results showed that air pollutants were positively correlated with HTN, while ambient temperature and green space were negatively correlated with HTN. Meanwhile, the negative associations of green space on HTN could decrease with the increasing concentrations of air pollution, but increase with the rising of ambient temperature.

RESUMO

Aim of this study was to evaluate the association between multiple essential microelements exposure and the aggressive clinicopathologic characteristics of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The concentrations of 10 essential microelements in urine [cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), selenium (Se), strontium (Sr), zinc (Zn), and iodine (I)] were measured in 608 patients newly diagnosed with PTC, including 154 males and 454 females. Chi square test and Wilcoxon rank sum test were used to compare general characteristics among males and females. Multivariate logistic regression was used to evaluate the associations between essential microelements and PTC clinicopathologic characteristics in single- and multi-microelement models. In this study, we only observed that the frequency of lymph node metastasis in males was higher than in females, and males had higher levels of zinc than females, but males had lower levels of iodine than females. It was found that high levels of Fe were associated with decreased risk of PTC tumor size > 1 cm, capsular invasion, and advanced T stage (T3/4a/4b). High levels of Co and Mo were associated with decreased risk of capsular invasion and lymph node metastasis, respectively. However, high levels of Mn and Sr were associated with increased risk of capsular invasion and multifocality respectively, and both were associated with increased risk of advanced T stage (T3/4a/4b). These findings indicated that certain essential microelements might have potential effects on PTC progression and aggressiveness. Further studies are required to confirm these findings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Glioma, the most common primary malignant brain tumor, is highly malignant with a poor prognosis. We aimed to clarify the relevance of ANXA5 polymorphisms to glioma risk and prognosis among the Chinese Han population. METHOD: Six single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of ANXA5 were genotyped by Agena MassARRAY in 593 glioma patients and 589 healthy controls. Logistic regression model was used to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). The association between polymorphisms and survival were evaluated using the log-rank test, Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression model. RESULTS: We found that rs117677079 polymorphism was strongly associated with an increased risk of glioma (OR 1.64, p = 0.003) and a worse prognosis for glioma, especially in high-grade glioma (HR 1.76, p = 0.005). Whereas, rs145619195 CT genotype might weaken the susceptibility (OR 0.63, p = 0.024) and prognosis (HR 0.20, p = 0.025) of glioma. Haplotype analysis showed that haplotype ″GACCG″ in the block (rs41278075, rs2306420, rs117677079, rs2306415 and rs1131239) significantly decreased the susceptibility of glioma (OR 0.61, p = 0.003). Furthermore, we also found that age, extent of resection and chemotherapy were key prognostic factors in glioma patients. CONCLUSION: This study firstly provided evidence for the impact of ANXA5 polymorphism on the susceptibility and prognosis of glioma, suggesting ANXA5 variants might have potential roles in the etiology of glioma.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) material-controllable degradation under light radiation is crucial for their photonics and medical-related applications, which are yet to be investigated. In this paper, we first report the laser illumination method to regulate the degradation rate of Ti3C2T x nanosheets in aqueous solution. Comprehensive characterization of intermediates and final products confirmed that plasmonic laser promoting the oxidation was strikingly different from heating the aqueous solution homogeneously. Laser illumination would nearly 10 times accelerate the degradation of Ti3C2T x nanosheets in initial stage and create many smaller-sized oxidized products in a short time. Laser-induced fast degradation was principally ascribed to surface plasmonic resonance effect of Ti3C2T x nanosheets. The degradation ability of such illumination could be controlled either by tuning the excitation wavelength or changing the excitation power. Furthermore, the laser- or thermal-induced degradation could be retarded by surface protection of Ti3C2T x nanosheets. Our results suggest that plasmonic electron excitation of Ti3C2T x nanosheets could build a new reaction channel and lead to the fast oxidation of nanosheets in aqueous solution, potentially enabling a series of water-based applications.

RESUMO

In-plane asymmetric micro-supercapacitors using nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) film as negative electrode and MnO2 nanostructures as positive electrode are fabricated onto a plastic substrate coated with Ni/Cu film. A laser-scribing machine is employed to make interdigital finger electrodes in the plastic substrate coated with NG film via a slurry coating process. MnO2 nanosheets are electrochemically deposited onto pre-coated NG film. In LiCl-based gelled electrolyte, the NG//MnO2 cell exhibits excellent electrochemical performance and a broad voltage window up to 1.8 V. The maximum specific capacitance of a single cell is measured to be 13 mF cm-2. In addition, several cells in series can be easily fabricated by combining the laser-scribing technique and the electrodeposition of MnO2 electrodes. As a proof of concept, four cells in a compact configuration and with high voltage output up to 7.2 V are demonstrated.

RESUMO

Plastic film capacitors suffer from low charge storage capacity due to the low dielectric constant of the polymer (<10). We have devised a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite film filled with small graphene oxide (GO) sheets that have aromatic molecules attached to their surfaces. The use of 4,4'-oxydiphenol molecules to functionalize graphene sheets is found to have a remarkable effect on enhancing the dielectric permittivity as well as reducing the electrical conductivity of the nanocomposite. When under an electric field, these molecules with an angled molecular geometry act as aligned electric dipoles to largely enhance the dielectric permittivity of the composite, reaching a level two orders of magnitude higher than that of the counterpart filled with blank graphene sheets. Also, the aromatic molecules on the graphene surface act as resistive barriers that block charge transfer between interconnected graphene sheets. As a consequence, the electric conductivity of the composite can be decreased by two orders of magnitude. The PVDF composite filled with functionalized graphene shows a percolation threshold of 13 wt% and a high dielectric constant of 1091 at 100 Hz at this point.

RESUMO

To date, graphene-based electric double layer supercapacitors have not shown the remarkable specific capacitance as theoretically predicted. An efficient strategy toward boosting the overall capacitance is to endow graphene with pseudocapacitance. Herein, molecules of hydrolyzed polyimide (HPI) are used to functionalize N-doped graphene (NG) via π-π interaction and the resulting enhanced electrochemical energy storage is reported. These aromatic molecules in monolayer form on graphene contribute strong pseudocapacitance. Paper-like NG films with different areal mass loadings ranging from 0.5 to 4.8 mg cm-2 are prepared for supercapacitor electrodes. It is shown that the gravimetric capacitance can be increased by 50-60% after the surface functionalization by HPI molecules. A high specific capacitance of 553 F g-1 at 5 mV s-1 is achieved by the HPI-NG film with a graphene mass loading of 0.5 mg cm-2 in H2 SO4 aqueous electrolyte. For the HPI-NG film with highest mass loading, the gravimetric specific capacitance drops to 340 F g-1 while the areal specific capacitance reaches a high value of 1.7 F cm-2 . HPI-NG films are also tested in Li2 SO4 aqueous electrolyte, over an extended voltage window of 1.6 V. High specific energy densities up to 40 Wh kg-1 are achieved with the Li2 SO4 electrolyte.

RESUMO

The beam wander of a partially coherent Airy beam in oceanic turbulence is investigated with the help of the extended Huygens-Fresnel integral formula. Analytical expression for the second-order moment and the beam wander of a partially coherent Airy beam propagating in oceanic turbulence is derived. From the numerical results based on the analytical formula, we find that increasing the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy or decreasing the dissipation rate of mean-square temperature and relative strength of temperature and salinity fluctuations of oceanic turbulence tends to decrease the wander effect of a partially coherent Airy beam. Moreover, it is found that increasing the transverse scale factor and wavelength or decreasing the coherent length and exponential truncation factor of a partially coherent Airy beam decreases beam wander in oceanic turbulence. Our results will be useful in optical underwater communications and laser defense.

RESUMO

The effect of different individual TFA isomers on cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been a limited study, especially for stroke. We aimed to investigate the relationships between four major plasma TFA isomer (elaidic, vaccenic, palmitelaidic and linolelaidic acid) concentrations and the risk of CVD, stroke and non-stroke CVD. A cross-sectional study was conducted, utilising a nationally representative sample of US adults in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Among the 3504 participants, 304 participants self-reported CVD history. The highest quintile of elaidic acid intake was associated with a 233% higher CVD risk (p = .010). Adjusted for age, gender and race, palmitelaidic acid was associated with a decreased CVD risk, but the effect size was diminished in a subsequent analysis model. For stroke risk, we failed to identify any associations. In addition to elaidic acid, the health effect of palmitelaidic acid should be paid more attention in the future studies.

RESUMO

Rechargeable aqueous proton batteries with small organic molecule anodes are currently considered promising candidates for large-scale energy storage due to their low cost, stable safety, and environmental friendliness. However, the practical application is limited by the poor cycling stability caused by the shuttling of soluble organic molecules between electrodes. Herein, a cell separator is modified by a GO-casein-Cu2+ layer with a brick-and-mortar structure to inhibit the shuttling of small organic molecules. Experimental and calculation results indicate that, attributed to the synergistic effect of physical blocking of casein molecular chains and electrostatic and coordination interactions of Cu2+, bulk dissolution and shuttling of multiple small molecules can be inhibited simultaneously, while H+ transfer across the separators is not almost affected. With the protection of the GO-casein-Cu2+ separator, soluble small molecules, such as diquinoxalino[2,3-a:2',3'-c]phenazine,2,3,8,9,14,15-hexacyano (6CN-DQPZ) exhibit a high reversible capacity of 262.6 mA h g-1 and amazing stability (capacity retention of 92.9% after 1000 cycles at 1 A g-1). In addition, this strategy is also proved available to other active conjugated small molecules, such as indanthrone (IDT), providing a general green sustainable strategy for advancing the use of small organic molecule electrodes in proton cells.

RESUMO

Glioma is the most common primary intracranial tumor with high mortality and poor prognosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate how single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the NID2 gene affect glioma risk and prognosis. Four candidate SNPs of NID2 in 529 glioma patients and 478 healthy controls were successfully genotyped by Agena MassARRAY mass spectrometer. Logistic regression was utilized to assess the associations between NID2 SNPs and glioma risk under different genetic models. Furthermore, the relationship between risk-related SNPs in NID2 and the prognosis of glioma patients was explored through Kaplan-Meier (KM) survival curve and Cox proportional hazard regression analysis. The results showed that rs11846847 (OR 1.24, p = 0.017) and rs1874569 (OR 1.22, p = 0.026) were significantly associated with an increased risk of glioma, and rs11846847 also had a risk-increasing effect on glioma in participants ≤ 40 years old. The interaction model of rs11846847 and rs1874569 could be more suitable for forecasting glioma risk. We also discovered a significant association between rs1874569 and poor prognosis in glioma patients (HR 1.32, p = 0.039) and especially CC genotype was relevant to shorter overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with high-grade glioma. Additionally, the study demonstrated that gross total resection or chemotherapy improve glioma prognosis in the Chinese Han population. This study is the first to provide evidence for the association of NID2 SNPs with glioma risk and prognosis, suggesting that NID2 variants might be potential factors for glioma.

RESUMO

Backgrounds: Glioma is a highly malignant brain tumor with a grim prognosis. Genetic factors play a role in glioma development. While some susceptibility loci associated with glioma have been identified, the risk loci associated with prognosis have received less attention. This study aims to identify risk loci associated with glioma prognosis and establish a prognostic prediction model for glioma patients in the Chinese Han population. Methods: A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted to identify risk loci in 484 adult patients with glioma. Cox regression analysis was performed to assess the association between GWAS-risk loci and overall survival as well as progression-free survival in glioma. The prognostic model was constructed using LASSO Cox regression analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis. The nomogram model was constructed based on the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) classifier and clinical indicators, enabling the prediction of survival rates at 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year intervals. Additionally, the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was employed to evaluate the prediction value of the nomogram. Finally, functional enrichment and tumor-infiltrating immune analyses were conducted to examine the biological functions of the associated genes. Results: Our study found suggestive evidence that a total of 57 SNPs were correlated with glioma prognosis (p < 5 × 10-5). Subsequently, we identified 25 SNPs with the most significant impact on glioma prognosis and developed a prognostic model based on these SNPs. The 25 SNP-based classifier and clinical factors (including age, gender, surgery, and chemotherapy) were identified as independent prognostic risk factors. Subsequently, we constructed a prognostic nomogram based on independent prognostic factors to predict individualized survival. ROC analyses further showed that the prediction accuracy of the nomogram (AUC = 0.956) comprising the 25 SNP-based classifier and clinical factors was significantly superior to that of each individual variable. Conclusion: We identified a SNP classifier and clinical indicators that can predict the prognosis of glioma patients and established a prognostic prediction model in the Chinese Han population. This study offers valuable insights for clinical practice, enabling improved evaluation of patients' prognosis and informing treatment options.
