RESUMO

BACKGROUNDS: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between clinical characteristics and cervical lymph node metastasis (LNM) in patients with thyroid carcinoma, as well as estimate the preoperative diagnosis values of ultrasound (US) and contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) examinations on the neck for detection of cervical LNM in thyroid carcinoma. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 3 026 patients with surgically proven thyroid carcinoma was conducted. Patients' clinical characteristics, including gender, age, tumor size, bilateral lesions, multifocality, adenomatous nodules, Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), and extrathyroidal extension, were collected to explore their association with cervical LNM in thyroid carcinoma. Preoperative assessments for central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) and lateral lymph node metastasis (LLNM) were conducted through US and CECT. The diagnostic value of US, CECT and US combined with CECT for detection of LNM located in various cervical compartments was estimated based on the pathological results. RESULTS: The risk of cervical LNM was higher in thyroid cancer patients who were male, age < 55 years old, tumor size > 10 mm, bilateral lesions, and extrathyroidal extension, while multifocality, adenomatous nodules and HT had no significant effect on LNM. US, CECT and US combined with CECT all had a higher sensitivity to LLNM (93.1%, 57.8%, 95.4%) than to CLNM (32.3%, 29.0%, 43.4%). US and CECT had a high specificity to both CLNM and LLNM (94.3-97.8%). CONCLUSION: Preoperative clinical characteristics and imaging examinations on patients with thyroid carcinoma are crucial to the evaluation of cervical lymph nodes and conducive to individualizing surgical treatments by clinicians. US combined with CECT are superior to single US or CECT alone in detection of CLNM and LLNM.

RESUMO

Here, we report a mild and highly efficient approach to alkyl oxazoles through merging gold/copper catalysis and copper/photoredox catalysis. Various alkyl oxazoles are synthesized from N-propargylamides with alkyl halides in good to excellent yields with wide functional-group compatibility under blue-light irradiation. Significantly, a copper catalyst plays a dual role in this transformation: as a powerful cocatalyst to accelerate protodeauration of vinyl gold intermediates and improve photoredox catalysis.

RESUMO

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a worldwide nutritional problem. The metabolic mechanism of IDA is still unclear. So, the underlying metabolic mechanism of iron supplementation has not been reported even if various iron supplements to treat IDA have been studied. The present study aimed to investigate the metabolic mechanisms of IDA and agar oligosaccharide-iron complex (AOS-iron) supplementation in IDA rats by assessing the changes of endogenous metabolites in serum and liver using LC-MS/MS metabolomics approach. Orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) score plots showed significant separation of metabolites in serum and liver among the normal, anemia model and AOS-iron groups. Seventeen and eight metabolites were identified from serum and liver, respectively. Pathway enrichment analysis suggested that potential biomarkers were strongly involved in the biosynthesis of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, sphingolipid metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, linoleic acid metabolism, Fcγ receptor (FcγR)-mediated phagocytosis, pancreatic cancer metabolism, regulation of autophagy, gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) signaling pathway, fatty acid metabolism, pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis, glutathione metabolism and primary bile acid biosynthesis. After supplementing 2 mg Fe/kg·bw AOS-iron for 4 weeks, the major metabolites in related pathways disrupted by IDA were restored to normal levels. Therefore, AOS-iron effectively treated IDA by regulating metabolic disorders.

RESUMO

In present study, the content of main nutrients in wild coix seed were significantly higher than cultivated coix seed. Transcriptome and proteome were combined to provide new insight of the molecular mechanisms linked to nutritional quality of wild coix seed and cultivated coix seed by RNA sequencing and isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification techniques. A total of 20,039 genes and 471 proteins exhibited differential expression level in cultivated coix seed when compared with wild coix seed. These genes and proteins revealed that the pathway of flavonoids biosynthesis, starch and sucrose metabolism, lipid metabolism and amino acid metabolism were linked to nutritional quality of coix seed. Our results provided transcriptomics and proteomics information with respect to the molecular mechanisms of nutritional changes of coix seed, identified key genes and proteins that associated with the metabolism and accumulation of nutrients, and helped clarify the mechanisms of nutrient differences.

RESUMO

To confirm the role of high-pressure processing in enhancing the quality of Eucheuma spinosum chicken breast batters, low-field nuclear magnetic resonance, scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy were used to explore the effect of E. spinosum and high-pressure processing on water migration, protein conformation, and microstructure in chicken breast batters. The water-holding capacity, surface hydrophobicity, and reactive sulfhydryl group content significantly increased as the pressure increased (0.1 to 300 MPa), while the peak ratio of non-flowable water (T22) decreased (P > 0.05). The secondary structure composition changed significantly, and the ß-sheet, ß-turn, and random coil content significantly increased (P < 0.05) as the α-helix content decreased. The -OH stretching vibration (3,100 to 3,500 cm-1) was shifted to higher wavenumbers, and the number of hydrogen bonds in each water molecule increased. The scanning electron microscopy images reveal that proper pressure produced a dense network structure with small cavities. Moreover, these characteristics were further enhanced when E. spinosum was added from 0 to 0.4%. Overall, this paper could provide crucial theoretical support for the application of high-pressure processing of low-salt seaweed chicken breast.

RESUMO

In this contribution, we describe a novel, facile, and scalable methodology for high degree functionalization toward graphene by the reaction between bulk graphite fluoride and in situ generated amine anion. Using this, the rationally designed sulfanilic acid pending on a graphene scaffold (G-SO3H), a two-dimensional (2D) π-conjugated counterpart of poly(styrenesulfonate), is available. Combined reliable characterizations demonstrate that a very large quantity of sulfanilic blocks are linked to graphene through the foreseen substitution of carbon-fluorine units and an unexpected reductive defluorination simultaneously proceeds during the one-step reaction, endowing the resultant G-SO3H with splendid dispersity in various solvents and film-forming property via the former, and with recovered 2D π-conjugation via the latter. Besides, the work function of G-SO3H lies at -4.8 eV, well matched with the P3HT donor. Awarded with these fantastic merits, G-SO3H behaves capable in hole collection and transport, indicated by the enhanced device efficiency and stability of polymer solar cells (PSCs) based on intensively studied P3HT:PCBM blends as an active layer. In particular, comparison with conventional poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonate) and recently rising and shining graphene oxide, G-SO3H outperforms above 17 and 24%, respectively, in efficiency. More impressively, when these three unencapsulated devices are placed in a N2-filled glovebox at around 25 °C for 7 weeks, or subject to thermal treatment at 150 °C for 6 h also in N2 atmosphere, or even rudely exposed to indoor air, G-SO3H-based PSCs exhibit the best stability. These findings enable G-SO3H to be a strongly competitive alternative of the existing hole extraction materials for PSC real-life applications.
