RESUMO

PURPOSE: The overall objective of the survey was to systematically examine patients' perspectives on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and their treatment in Southeast Asia. METHODS: A multinational cross-sectional survey involving adult men seeking consultation at urology outpatient clinics because of LUTS in Southeast Asia was conducted using convenience sampling. Self-reported prevalence, bother, treatment and treatment satisfaction of selected LUTS including urgency, nocturia, slow stream, and post-micturition dribble were evaluated. RESULTS: In total, 1535 eligible patients were enrolled in the survey. A majority of respondents were aged 56-75 years, not employed, and had not undergone prostate operation before. Overall, the self-reported prevalence of nocturia was 88% (95% CI 86-90%), slow stream 61% (95% CI 59-63%), post micturition dribble 55% (95% CI 52-58%), and urgency 52% (95% CI 49-55%). There were marked differences in the country specific prevalence of LUTS complaints. Frequently, symptoms coexisted and were combined with nocturia. More than half of patients felt at least some degree of bother from their symptoms: 61% for urgency, 57% for nocturia, 58% for slow stream, and 60% for post-micturition dribble. Before seeing the present urologists, nearly half of patients have received some form of prescribed treatment and more than 80% of patients indicated they would like to receive treatment. CONCLUSION: Men who sought urologist care for LUTS often presented with multiple symptoms. Nocturia emerged as the most common symptom amongst the four core symptoms studied.

RESUMO

The coexistence of multiple synchronous primary malignancies is uncommon. The coexistence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is even rarer. We present a case of a 44-year-old male patient with a history of chronic hepatitis B and a right renal mass treated by radical nephrectomy. At the 2-month follow-up, a new lesion was detected in the left lobe of the liver. Postsurgery histologic evaluation with immunohistochemical study of both lesions confirmed the renal and hepatic lesions to be RCC and HCC, respectively.

RESUMO

Extragastrointestinal stromal tumors (EGISTs) are uncommon manifestation of gastrointestinal stromal tumors originating from cells outside the gastrointestinal tract. Documented sites of EGISTs include the omentum, mesentery, retroperitoneum, and prostate gland. Prostatic EGISTs are rare entities, which have been sporadically observed, yet all of them were found to be confined within enlarged prostates. We herein report a rare case of EGIST in a 66-year-old man, presenting as a large exophytic prostatic mass.

RESUMO

Study on 83 patients (36 males and 47 females, mean age: 41.2 ± 9.3) with 84 kidney stones with the size from 20-50mm treated by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy at Hue Medical College Hospital from 5/2001-5/2003. Stones located in renal pelvis in 52,2%, in upper renal calyces in 3.6%, in midle renal calyces 2.4%, in lower renal calyces in 28.5%. 65.5% of stones had identical optical density. Unltrasound found non-hydronephroid is 59.4%, hydronephroid degree I is 23.4%, hydronephroid degree II is 17.2%. The average duration for stone breaking was 4.5 ± 2.9 times per stone. Successful rate was 84.5%. Successful rate of stone breaking according to stone size: 91.8% with stones sized 20 to less than 30mm, 75% with 30 to less than 40mm and 0% with 40 - 50mm. Successful rate of stone breaking acording to stone localization: in renal pelvis 88.4%, in upper renal calyces 100%, midle renal calyces 100%, lower renal calyces 87.5%. The rate in pure calculus was 88.9% and half part staghorn calculus was 58.3%

RESUMO

The chemical composition of 56 urinary stone samples was studied by X-ray diffraction at Hue Central Hospital and Hue College Hospital. All of stone contain calcium. The rate of calcium stone was 67.9%, The rate of struvite stone was 3.5%. The rate of calcium stone was 28.6%. The acid uric stone and cystein stone were not found. The rate of crystal in calci oxalate stone was: whewellite 68% ; weddellite 32%. The rate of crystals in stone: whewellite 98.2%; weddellite 46.4%; bassanite 10.7%; calcium glycerophosphate1.8%; magnesium acetate hydrate 1.8%

RESUMO

30 patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy, aged 69.2  8.58, at Hue Central Hospital were studied from November 2001 to April 2002. Disuria was the main symptoms, accounted for 60%. Ultrasound showed that 100% of cases had large size of the tumors with mean weight of 80.3  58.1g. Pre-operative indices were: bladder residual volume 207.5  139ml, urine voided time 43.7  19.4 seconds, voided volume 84.2  47.5 ml, mean flow of urine 2.5  1.93ml/second, and post-operative indices were 84.2  72.3ml, 40.1  21.8 seconds, 118.3  46.7 ml, 4.5  3.34 ml/second respectively

RESUMO

Evaluate effects of analgesic acupuncture in extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) in 60 patients (28 females, 32 males, median age: 41.9 years old) who had urinary stone treated at Clinical Research Center of Hue Medical College from 2001 November to 2002 January. Pain scale was evaluated by posture of ESWL, before and after ESWL. Results: there are significant differences between patients who were treated analgesic acupuncture and who were not. Analgesic acupuncture is effective pain relief method in ESWL. It has no side-effect, and is simple and safe method

RESUMO

42 cases of renal calcul were treated by ESWL at Hue Central Hospital. Results showed that 10+/- 4 days after this intervention proteinury and hematury were negative, blood pressure to normal. These was no change of IVU before and after ESWL. All damages were disappeared two weeks after the operation. Excretory function of kidney was not affected by 6 times of lithotrypsia by this method.

RESUMO

80 adult rats were divided into 2 groups of 60 rats before and 20 after kidney transplantion. Study showed that the changes of alkaline phosphatase in kidney before transplation trended to vary paralelly with warm ischemic time (WIT) and cold ischemic time (CIT) and the 5 times higher rate of perfusion than normal did not make the enzyme changed. Post transplantion kidney tissue alkaline phosphatase level varied in correlation with the active capacity of transplanted kidney. Blood creatinine level of the rats within a week after the transplantation has a negative variation with enzyme level
