RESUMO
Objective: To analyze the causes of preoperative miscarriage of pancreatic serous cystadenoma (SCN) and find the ways to improve it. Methods: Clinical data of 425 pancreatic cystic neoplasm patients who underwent surgical resection from January 2006 to December 2016 in Department of Pancreatic Surgery in Huashan Hospital were retrospectively analyzed.Excel database was created which covered 128 fields of 7 fields: general information of patients, preoperative blood biochemical indexes, tumor markers, surgical related data, postoperative complications, imaging findings and pathology. One hundred and sixty-one cases of SCN were analyzed in depth, mainly in three aspects: surgical benefit, preoperative imaging diagnostic value and interference factors in preoperative judgement. The classification data were analyzed by χ(2) test and the quantitative data were analyzed by t test. The Logistic regression model was used for multiple factor analysis. Results: Of the 425 PCN cases surgically removed, 161 cases (37.9%) were SCN, the incidence of operative complications was 40.4%(65/161), the hospitalization days was (20.7±12.1)days and the medical cost was (75 267±37 866) yuan.Only 3 of 161 cases of SCN were accurately diagnosed by preoperative imaging methods, 61 cases were diagnosed as "cystic lesions of pancreas" (37.9%) and 52 cases were diagnosed as "pancreatic cystadenoma" (32.3%). SCN was misdiagnosed as MCN(32.3%) and IPMN(28%) before operation.25.5% of them were diagnosed as SCN before operation, but still underwent radical operation. The rate of preoperative imaging diagnosis for identifying SCN was 62.8%.The lack of preoperative endoscopy and the lack of understanding of the image characteristics and biological behavior of SCN were the most important factors affecting the accuracy of preoperative judgment.Statistics found that gender, age, CA125 and tumor location can be used as independent factors contribute to the clinical identification(χ(2)=8.995, P=0.003; χ(2)=10.019, P=0.007; t=3.157, P=0.002; χ(2)=6.790, P=0.009). Logistic analysis showed that women, older than 60 years old, the tumors located in the pancreatic body and tail were the independent factors of SCN classification and diagnosis (OR=0.481, 0.376, 0.577, 0.666, 95% CI: 0.305-0.759, 0.199-0.710, 0.361-0.924, 0.433-1.024, P=0.002, 0.003, 0.022, 0.064). Conclusions: SCN has more benign biological behavior.Although surgical excision is acceptable for clinical safety, the corresponding benefit is very limited. It is possible to improve the rationality of SCN clinical operation decisions to some extent by performing endoscopic examination, imaging doctors to improve the SCN feature recognition and surgeons to enhance the awareness of SCN.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the serum interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and the correlation between serum levels and disease activity. PATIENTS AND METHODS: ELISA was used to detect the serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels of AS patients (n=40) and normal controls (n=40) who were hospitalized or outpatient-diagnosed from June 2021 to May 2023. C-reactive protein (CRP) was detected by immune-enhanced turbidimetry. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate was determined by Wei's manual method. The correlation was analyzed by Pearson's correlation analysis. RESULTS: The levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in the AS group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in AS patients in the active phase were higher than those in the stable phase (p<0.05). CRP level was positively correlated with TNF-α, and IL-6 (r=0.02886 and 0.0273, p<0.05). Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) level was also positively correlated with TNF-α, and IL-6 (r=0.07568 and 0.0613, p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels are correlated with AS disease activity, suggesting that they may be involved in the inflammatory response of AS.

The hydrogen and methane were produced from wastewater sludge using a Clostridium strain. The original sludge and the pre-treated (acidified, sterilized, freeze/thawed, and sonicated) sludges were tested. Some pre-treatment could enhance hydrogen yield, and the other tests could enhance methane yield. Hydrogen yield followed freeze/thawed>acidified>sterilized>original sludge>sonicated; while methane yield followed sonicated>freeze/thawed>sterilized>acidified>original sludge. The production and consumption of acetate correlated closely with the trends in both yields.

The cytoplasmic domain of the common beta-chain (betac) of the granulocyte-macrophage-colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF)/interleukin-3 (IL-3)/IL-5 receptor contains a membrane proximal region that is sufficient to mediate ligand-dependent mitogenic activity. Within this region two motifs, designated as box 1 and box 2, are highly conserved among members of the cytokine receptor superfamily. Whereas box 1 is required for the recruitment and phosphorylation of Janus kinase-2, the function of box 2 remains largely unknown. Here, we report the identification of a novel transmembrane protein (common beta-chain associated protein (CBAP)) which directly associated with betac via the box 2 motif. Interestingly, such an association only occurred in the absence of GM-CSF in vivo. Ectopic overexpression of CBAP triggered apoptosis of factor-dependent cells via mitochondrial dysfunction, which could be inhibited by Bcl-2 overexpression. Reduced expression of endogenous CBAP by small interfering RNA did not interfere GM-CSF-activated signaling molecules, but such treatment significantly inhibited apoptosis induced by GM-CSF deprivation, but not other death stimuli. Domain mapping studies indicated that one apoptogenic domain of CBAP correlated with its ability to interact with betac. Taken together, these results suggest that CBAP modulates GM-CSF-deprivation-induced apoptosis possibly via a novel mechanism involving interaction with an un-liganded betac molecule.

Horizontal root fractures are rare among dental trauma. According to Dr. Andreasen's report there are four types of repairs after root fractures. They are 1. healing with calcified tissue; 2. interposition of connective tissue; 3. interposition of connective and bony tissue; 4. interposition of granulation tissue. This report presented a case of horizontal root fracture in a 27 years old female patient. The patient had a trauma in the front teeth about 15 years ago. Spontaneous healing occurred without dental treatment at that moment. However, symptoms appeared recently as a dento-alveolar abscess. Radiograph revealed a horizontal fracture at the middle third of the root portion of the left upper central incisor, and irregular hard tissue over the fractured area. Histologically, the main component of repair tissue is cementum.

The topography of the ectoderm was examined by scanning electron microscopy during neurulation in rat embryos at stage 24 (somites 8-11). A zone of altered cell morphology was observed along the crest of neural folds. This zone was located between the presumptive neural tube and the surface ectoderm and exhibited numerous rounded cell blebs, immediately prior to fusion between the folds. It is suggested that the observed surface alterations may reflect a change in the properties of the altered cell which correlate with initial adhesion between the folds.

Ethylenethiourea (ETU) is a degradation product from ethylenebisdithiocarbamate such as Zineb and Maneb which have been extensively used in food crops and ornamental plants. Khera (1973, 1975, 1977) reported that administration of ETU to pregnant rats could induce anomalies in the visceral organs and the central nervous system of fetuses in food toxicology. From this point, in an attempt to better understand the pathomechanism of teratogenesis in the central nervous system, we have studied the effects of ETU on the central nervous system of rat fetuses. In this study, pregnant Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were used and subjected to ETU. Various types of congenital malformations of the central nervous system are presented in rat fetuses including spinal dysraphism associated with hindbrain crowding, exencephaly, meningoencephalocele, microencephaly, hydraencephaly and hydrocephalus. Each depended on the gestation days of the ETU administration and dosages.
