RESUMO

Low-temperature KSCN molten salt is a promising technique to synthesize defect-rich MoS2catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, owing to the fast ion diffusion rate for rapid crystal growth, the resultant catalysts show a morphology of microsphere, which aggregates from MoS2nanosheets, to suppress the catalytic performance. In this work, large-sized few-layer MoS2nanosheets are synthesized via a spatial confinement strategy by adding inert NaCl into the KSCN molten salt. With the NaCl spacer to physically block the long-distance ion diffusion and isolate the chemical reaction, the MoS2nucleation and subsequent crystal growth could be controlled, guiding the nanosheets to grow along the narrow gap between the NaCl crystals to avoid aggregation. As a result, ultrathin MoS2nanosheets with a large geometry size are constructed. Profiting from the architecture to expose active sites and boost charge transfer kinetics, the large-sized few-layer MoS2nanosheets exhibit an impressive HER performance, showing a smallη10of 160 mV and a low Tafel slope of 53 mV dec-1with excellent stability. This work provides not only an efficient HER catalyst but also a facile spatial confinement technique to design and synthesize a large spectrum of transition metal sulfides for broad uses.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) 1H molybdenum disulfide (1H-MoS2) is hard to be directly used in energy storage devices due to its inert basal plane and unfavorable 2D stacking. This work demonstrated how the basal plane of 1H MoS2nanocrystals (NCs) can be activated to offer doubled specific capacitance by simple surface S depletions. Building on the expanded graphene with three-dimensional (3D) structures, as-prepared NCs were chemically grafted on the graphene surface to deliver stable energy storage and high capacitance, which overcame above challenges of 1H-MoS2. Aside from the mostly focused metastable phase, this work confirmed that the stable 1H Mo-S material is also promising in energy storage applications.

RESUMO

Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a global staple crop vital for human nutrition. Heading date (HD) and flowering date (FD) are critical traits influencing wheat growth, development, and adaptability to diverse environmental conditions. A comprehensive study were conducted involving 190 bread wheat accessions to unravel the genetic basis of HD and FD using high-throughput genotyping and multi-environment field trials. Seven independent quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were identified to be significantly associated with HD and FD using two GWAS methods, which explained a proportion of phenotypic variance ranging from 1.43% to 9.58%. Notably, QTLs overlapping with known vernalization genes Vrn-D1 were found, validating their roles in regulating flowering time. Moreover, novel QTLs on chromosome 2A, 5B, 5D, and 7B associated with HD and FD were identified. The effects of these QTLs on HD and FD were confirmed in an additional set of 74 accessions across different environments. An increase in the frequency of alleles associated with early flowering in cultivars released in recent years was also observed, suggesting the influence of molecular breeding strategies. In summary, this study enhances the understanding of the genetic regulation of HD and FD in bread wheat, offering valuable insights into crop improvement for enhanced adaptability and productivity under changing climatic conditions. These identified QTLs and associated markers have the potential to improve wheat breeding programs in developing climate-resilient varieties to ensure food security. RESUMO

Triplet generation by quantum dots (QDs)-sensitized molecules emerges great potential in many applications. However, the mechanism of triplet energy transfer (TET) is still fuzzy especially due to the complicated energy level alignment of QDs and molecules or trap states in QDs. Here, CdSe QDs and 5-tetracene carboxylic acid (TCA) molecules are selected as the triplet donor and acceptor, respectively, to form a TET system. By tuning the band gap of CdSe, the CdSe-TCA complex is exactly designed to present a Type-II like alignment of relative energetics. Coupling the transient absorption and time-resolved fluorescence spectra, all carrier dynamics is distinctly elucidated. Quantitative analysis demonstrates that hole transfer persisting for ∼ 2 ps outcompetes all other carrier dynamics such as electron trapping (∼100 ps level), charge recombination (∼ 5 ns) and the so-called "back transfer charge recombination" (∼50 ns), and thus leads to a hole-transfer-mediated TET process. The low TET yield (∼34.0%) ascribed to electron behavior can be further improved if electron trapping and charge recombination are efficiently suppressed. The observation on distinguishable carrier dynamics attributed to legitimate design of energy level alignment facilitates a better understanding of the TET mechanism from QDs to molecules as well as further development of photoelectronic devices based on such TET systems.

RESUMO

Fibrillin-2 (FBN2) is a major component of tissue microfibrils, and the decrease of FBN2 perturbs the signalling events mediated by transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß), thereby playing a role in macular degeneration. However, the association between the retinal degeneration resulting from the abnormality of FBN2 and the activation of TGF-ß signalling has not been fully addressed. In the present study, the mice were divided into a normal control group (NC group), a phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) injection group (PBS group), and an anti-FBN2 protein injection group (anti-FBN2 group), and the mice in PBS and anti-FBN2 groups received the relevant treatment via the intravitreal injection once a week for three consecutive weeks. One week later after injection, the retinal morphology and visual function of the fundus were detected. Further, the expression of FBN2, TGF-ß1, TGF-ß2 and TGF-ß3 in retina was measured using quantitative polymerase chain reaction and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. As a result, fundus examination suggests that after intravitreous injection of anti-FBN2 protein, there were a large patchy yellow white degeneration region and numerous pigmentations in the retina in anti-FBN2-treated mice; by contrast, there was no apparent change in mice from the NC and PBS groups. The retina suffered markedly damage, and the thickness of whole retina and outer nuclear layer markedly thinned. The expression of FBN2 was decreased whereas the levels of TGF-ß1, TGF-ß2 and TGF-ß3 were upregulated. Together, our findings indicate that the intravitreous delivery of anti-FBN2 protein could induce retina degeneration in mice, accompanied by the higher activated TGF-ß. The retinal degeneration mouse model established will provide a platform for the investigation of the retinal diseases.

In recent years, with the development of new energy-saving materials and the combination with practical technology, energy-saving smart windows technology has received more and more attention from scientific research. Based on the summary of thermochromic smart windows by Yi Long research groups, this review described the applications of thermal responsive organic materials in smart windows, including poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) hydrogels, hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) hydrogels, ionic liquids and liquid crystals. Besides, the mechanism of various organic materials and the properties of functional materials were also introduced. Finally, opportunities and challenges relating to thermochromic smart windows and prospects for future development are discussed.

RESUMO

Auger recombination is an ultrafast and unnegligible photophysical process in colloidal semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) due to competition with charge separation or radiative recombination processes, pivotal for their applications ranging from bio-labeling, light-emitting diodes, QD lasing to solar energy conversion. Among diverse QDs, ternary chalcopyrite is recently receiving significant attention for its heavy-metal free property and remarkable optical performance. Given deficient understanding of the Auger process for ternary chalcopyrite QDs, CuInS2 QDs with various sizes are synthesized as a representative and the bi-exciton lifetime (τBX) is derived by virtue of ultrafast time resolved absorption spectrum. The trend of τBX varying with size is consistent with the universal scaling of τBX versus QD volume (V): τBX = γV. The scaling factor γ is 6.6 ± 0.5 ps·nm-3 for CuInS2 QDs, and the bi-exciton Auger lifetime is 4-5 times slower than typical CdSe QDs with the same volume, suggesting reduced Auger recombination rate in ternary chalcopyrite. This work facilitates clearer understanding of Auger process and provides further insight for rational design of light-harvesting and emitting devices based on ternary chalcopyrite QDs.

RESUMO

: The new rigid planar ligand 2,5-bis(3-(pyridine-4-yl)phenyl)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole (BPPT) has been synthesized, which is an excellent building block for assembling coordination polymer. Under solvothermal reaction conditions, cadmium ion with BPPT in the presence of various carboxylic acids including (1,1'-biphenyl)-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (BPDC), isophthalic acid (IP), and benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (BTC) gave rise to three coordination complexes, viz, [Cd(BPPT)(BPDA)](BPPT)n (1), [Cd(BPPT) (IP)] (CH3OH) (2), and [Cd3(BPPT)3(BTC)2(H2O)2] (3). The structures of 1, 2, and 3 were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The IR spectra as well as thermogravimetric and luminescence properties were also investigated. Complex 1 is a two-dimensional (2D) network and further stretched to a 3D supramolecular structure through π-π stacking interaction. The complexes 2 and 3 show 3D framework. The complexes 1, 2, and 3 exhibited luminescence property at room temperature.

RESUMO

Owing to the long-lived decay of triplet excited state, extensive efforts have been devoted to efficient triplet generation for applications covering triplet-triplet annihilation for photon upconversion, photocycloaddition and photoredox catalysis. Among the candidates, nanocrystal-molecule complexes have received tremendous attention for triplet generation because of easier spin flip and negligible energy loss during intersystem crossing. However, the triplet energy transfer (TET) from nanocrystals (NCs) to molecules can be very complicated in actual situation due to intricate energy level alignment and inevitable defect states, which often involves various decay pathes of the excited state competing with TET. Understanding the detailed carrier dynamics in such complexes is strongly necessary for related applications. Here, a CdSe-TCA (5-tetracene carboxylic acid) complex with a Type-II like energy level alignment is synthesized through precisely adjusting the dimension of CdSe NC. Based on series of spectral measurements, especially the transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy, the results show various carrier dynamics including hole-transfer-mediated TET, Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and carrier trapping. Although the carrier trapping by defect states in CdSe NC is revealed not associated with the TET from CdSe to TCA, the FRET is proved to competing with the TET process. Both the FRET and defect states should be refrained for efficient TET in such complexes. This study could provide further insight for understanding the carrier dynamics competition in NC-molecule complexes for triplet generation and benefit related optoelectronics applications.

RESUMO

The vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) holds promise for large-scale energy storage applications, despite its lower energy and power densities compared to advanced secondary batteries available today. Carbon materials are considered suitable catalyst electrodes for improving many aspects of the VRFB. However, pristine graphite structures in carbon materials are catalytically inert and require modification to activate their catalytic activity. Among the various strategies developed so far, O-functionalization and chemical doping of carbon materials are considered some of the most promising pathways to regulate their electronic structures. Building on the catalytic mechanisms involved in the VRFB, this concise review discusses recent advancements in the O-functionalization and chemical doping of carbon materials. Furthermore, it explores how these materials can be tailored and highlights future directions for developing more promising VRFBs to guide future research.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) have been found to be a potential prognostic factor for cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Some LncRNAs have been confirmed as potential indicators to quantify genomic instability (GI). Nevertheless, GI-LncRNAs remain largely unexplored. This study established a GI-derived LncRNA signature (GILncSig) that can predict the prognosis of HCC patients. AIM: To establish a GILncSig that can predict the prognosis of HCC patients. METHODS: Identification of GI-LncRNAs was conducted by combining LncRNA expression and somatic mutation profiles. The GI-LncRNAs were then analyzed for functional enrichment. The GILncSig was established in the training set by Cox regression analysis, and its predictive ability was verified in the testing set and TCGA set. In addition, we explored the effects of the GILncSig and TP53 on prognosis. RESULTS: A total of 88 GI-LncRNAs were found, and functional enrichment analysis showed that their functions were mainly involved in small molecule metabolism and GI. The GILncSig was constructed by 5 LncRNAs (miR210HG, AC016735.1, AC116351.1, AC010643.1, LUCAT1). In the training set, the prognosis of high-risk patients was significantly worse than that of low-risk patients, and similar results were verified in the testing set and TCGA set. Multivariate Cox regression analysis and stratified analysis confirmed that the GILncSig could be used as an independent prognostic factor. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of the GILncSig showed that the area under the curve (0.773) was higher than the two LncRNA signatures published recently. Furthermore, the GILncSig may have a better predictive performance than TP53 mutation status alone. CONCLUSION: We established a GILncSig that can predict the prognosis of HCC patients, which will help to guide prognostic evaluation and treatment decisions.

RESUMO

Electroencephalogram (EEG) classification has attracted great attention in recent years, and many models have been presented for this task. Nevertheless, EEG data vary from subject to subject, which may lead to the performance of a classifier degrades due to individual differences. To collect enough labeled data to model would address the issue, but it is often time-consuming and labor-intensive. In this paper, we propose a new multi-source transfer learning method based on domain adversarial neural network for EEG classification. Specifically, we design a domain adversarial neural network, which includes a feature extractor, a classifier, and a domain discriminator, and therefore reduce the domain shift to achieve the purpose. In addition, a unified multi-source optimization framework is constructed to further improve the performance, and the result for EEG classification is induced by the weighted combination of the predictions from multiple source domains. Experiments on three publicly available EEG datasets validate the advantages of the proposed method.

RESUMO

Frozen dough is suitable for industrial cold chain transportation, but usually experiences temperature fluctuations through the cold chain to the store after being refrigerated in a factory, seriously damaging the product yield. In order to analyze the influence mechanism of temperature fluctuation during the terminal cold chain on frozen dough, the effects of terminal freezing and thawing (TFT) on the quality (texture and rheology) and component (water, starch, protein) behaviors of dough were investigated. Results showed that the TFT treatment significantly increased the hardness and decreased the springiness of dough and that the storage modules were also reduced. Furthermore, TFT increased the content of freezable water and reduced the bound water with increased migration. Additionally, the peak viscosity and breakdown value after TFT with the increased number of cycles were also increased. Moreover, the protein characteristics showed that the low-molecular-weight region and the ß-sheet in the gluten secondary structure after the TFT treatment were increased, which was confirmed by the increased number of free sulfhydryl groups. Microstructure results showed that pores and loose connection were observed during the TFT treatment. In conclusion, the theoretical support was provided for understanding and eliminating the influence of the terminal nodes in a cold chain.

RESUMO

A highly efficient and mild palladium-catalyzed hydroboration of unactivated internal alkynes in water is described. Both aryl- and alkyl-substituted alkynes proceeded smoothly within the reaction time to afford the desired vinylboronates in moderate to high yields. Bis (pinacolato) diboron was used to afford α- and ß-hydroborated products in the presence of HOAc. These reactions showed high reactivities and tolerance, thus providing a promising method for the synthesis of alkenyl boron compounds.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: To summarize and analyze a case of rapid progression of high-risk proliferative diabetic retinopathy after the insulin intensive therapy (IT). PATIENT CONCERNS: A 58-year-old type 2 diabetes female patient suffered a rapid and dramatic decline of vision acuity in the left eye in 2 months after the insulin IT. However, the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of her right eye, which was in much severer condition and received panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) before, improved after the IT. INTERVENTIONS: The patient received intravitreal injection of conbercept (IVC) to her left eye, and 5 days later, underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), combined with PRP and silicon oil injection. OUTCOMES: The postoperative BCVA of the left eye was 20/200 and improved to 20/160 one month later. During the subsequent 2 months of follow-up, her BCVA remained 20/160 in both eyes. Her blood glucose level also remained stable. LESSONS: Insulin IT for untreated proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) patients can cause severe and irreversible consequences, so for such patients, the conservative treatment for glycemic control may be much safer. But if insulin IT is inevitable, the patient should undergo PRP promptly before the IT, and close eye monitoring during the IT is also essential.

RESUMO

Native collagen fibrils (CF) were successfully extracted from bovine tendons using two different methods: modified acid-solubilized extraction for A-CF and pepsin-aided method for P-CF. The yields of A-CF and P-CF were up to 64.91% (±1.07% SD) and 56.78% (±1.22% SD) (dry weight basis), respectively. The analyses of both amino acid composition and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) confirmed that A-CF and P-CF were type I collagen fibrils. Both A-CF and P-CF retained the intact crystallinity and integrity of type I collagen's natural structure by FTIR spectra, circular dichroism spectroscopy (CD) and X-ray diffraction detection. The aggregation structures of A-CF and P-CF were displayed by UV-Vis. However, A-CF showed more intact aggregation structure than P-CF. Microstructure and D-periodicities of A-CF and P-CF were observed (SEM and TEM). The diameters of A-CF and P-CF are about 386 and 282 nm, respectively. Although both A-CF and P-CF were theoretically concordant with the Schmitt hypothesis, A-CF was of evener thickness and higher integrity in terms of aggregation structure than P-CF. Modified acid-solubilized method provides a potential non-enzyme alternative to extract native collagen fibrils with uniform thickness and integral aggregation structure.

RESUMO

Excessive glucocorticoids (GC) may lead to the aggravation of several basic diseases including myopia, due to plasma hormone imbalances associated with the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPAA). Electroacupuncture (EA) is an effective therapeutic method to treat many diseases, although it remains unclear whether EA at acupoints on the foot or back would be effective in treating eye diseases. It was recently found that visual cortex activity for responses to visual stimuli with spatial frequency and resting-state functional connectivity (FC) between the supramarginal gyrus and rostrolateral prefrontal cortex was significantly reduced in patients with high myopia. The present study aims to investigate the role of the alternation of resting-state FC among the bilateral visual cortex and hypothalamus in exerting anti-myopia effects of EA in GC-enhanced lens-induced myopic (LIM) guinea pigs such that the mechanisms of EA to treat GC-enhanced myopia at Shenshu (BL23) acupoints can be probed. To confirm the effects of EA, ocular parameters including axial length and GC-associated physiological parameters such as animal appearance, behavior, bodyweight, and levels of four HPAA-associated plasma hormones [free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), estradiol (E2), and testosterone (T)] were also collected. Increased resting-state FC between the left and right visual cortex was detected in GC-enhanced lens-induced myopic guinea pigs with EA at BL23 acupoints (LIM+GC+EA) guinea pigs compared to GC-enhanced lens-induced myopic guinea pigs with EA at sham acupoints (LIM+GC+Sham) guinea pigs, as well as suppressed myopia and recovery of symptoms initially caused by overdose of GC. Recovered symptoms included improved animal appearance, behavior, bodyweight, and HPAA-associated plasma hormone levels were observed after 4 weeks of EA treatment. In contrast, the LIM+GC+Sham group showed decreased FC with elongation of axial length for myopization as compared to the control group and LIM group and exhibited a deterioration in physiological parameters including reduced body weight and balance disruption in the four measured HPAA-associated plasma hormones. Our findings suggest that EA could effectively treat GC-enhanced myopia by increasing resting-state FC between the left and right visual cortices, which may be pivotal to further understanding the application and mechanisms of EA in treating GC-enhanced myopia.

RESUMO

The effect of pre-corrosion pits on residual fatigue life for the 42CrMo steel (American grade: AISI 4140) is investigated using the accelerated pre-corrosion specimen in the saline environment. Different pre-corroded times are used for the specimens, and fatigue tests with different loads are then carried out on specimens. The pre-corrosion fatigue life is studied, and the fatigue fracture surfaces are examined by a surface profiler and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to identify the crack nucleation sites and to determine the size and geometry of corrosion pits. Moreover, the stress intensity factor varying with corrosion pits in different size parameters is analyzed based on finite element (FE) software ABAQUS to derive the regression formula of the stress intensity factor. Subsequently, by integrating the regression formula with the Paris formula, the residual fatigue life is predicted and compared with experimental results, and the relationship of the stress intensity factor, pit depth, and residual fatigue life are given under different corrosion degrees. The fatigue life predicted by the coupled formula agrees well with experiment results. It is observed from the SEM images that higher stress amplitude and longer pre-corroded time can significantly decrease the residual fatigue life of the steel. Additionally, the research work has brought about the discovery that the rate of crack extension accelerates when the crack length increases. The research in this paper also demonstrates that the corrosion pit size can be used as a damage index to assess the residual fatigue life.
