RESUMO

0D hybrid metal halides (0D HMHs) with fully isolated inorganic units provide an ideal platform for studying the correlations between chiroptical activities and crystal structures at atomic levels. Here, through the incorporation of different solvent molecules, a series of 0D chiral manganese bromides (RR/SS-C20H28N2)3MnBr8·2X (X = C2H5OH, CH3OH, or H2O) are synthesized to elucidate their chiroptical properties. They show negligible circular dichroism signals of Mn absorptions due to C2v-symmetric [MnBr4]2- tetrahedra. However, they display distinct circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) signals with continuously increased luminescence asymmetry factors (glum) from 10-4 (X = C2H5OH) to 10-3 (X = H2O). The increased glum value is structurally revealed to originate from the enhancement of [MnBr4]2- tetrahedral bond-angle distortions, due to the presence of different solvent molecules. Furthermore, (RR/SS-C20H28N2)MnBr4·H2O enantiomers with larger bond-angle distortions of [MnBr4]2- tetrahedra are synthesized based on hydrobromic acid-induced structural transformation of (RR/SS-C20H28N2)3MnBr8·2H2O enantiomers. Therefore, such (RR/SS-C20H28N2)MnBr4·H2O enantiomers exhibit enhanced CPL signals with |glum| up to 1.23 × 10-2. This work provides unique insight into enhancing chiroptical activities in 0D HMH systems.

RESUMO

Ultraviolet circularly polarized luminescence (UV-CPL) with high photon energy shows great potential in polarized light sources and stereoselective photopolymerization. However, developing luminescent materials with high UV-CPL performance remains challenging. Here, we report a pair of rare earth Ce3+-based zero-dimensional (0D) chiral hybrid metal halides (HMHs), R/S-(C14H24N2)2CeBr7, which exhibits characteristic UV emissions derived from the Ce 5d-4f transition. The compounds show simultaneously high photoluminescent quantum yields of (32-39)% and large luminescent dissymmetry factor (|glum|) values of (1.3-1.5)×10-2. Thus, the figures of merits of R/S-(C14H24N2)2CeBr7 are calculated to be (4.5-5.8)×10-3, which are superior to the reported UV-CPL emissive materials. Additionally, nearly 91 % of their PL intensities at 300 K can be well preserved at 380 K (LED operating temperature) without phase transition or decomposition, demonstrating the excellent structural and optical thermal stabilities of R/S-(C14H24N2)2CeBr7. Based on these enantiomers, the fabricated UV-emitting CP-LEDs exhibit high polarization degrees of ±1.0 %. Notably, the UV-CPL generated from the devices can significantly trigger the enantioselective photopolymerization of diacetylene with remarkable stereoselectivity, and consequently yield polymerized products with the anisotropy factors of circular dichroism (gCD) up to ±3.9×10-2, outperforming other UV-CPL materials and demonstrating their great potential as UV-polarized light sources.

RESUMO

Structural dimensionality and electronic dimensionality play a crucial role in determining the type of excitonic emission in hybrid metal halides (HMHs). It is important but challenging to achieve free exciton (FE) emission in zero-dimensional (0D) HMHs based on the control over the electronic dimensionality. In this work, a quasi-0D HMH (C7 H15 N2 Br)2 PbBr4 with localized electronic dimensionality is prepared as a prototype model. With increasing pressure onto (C7 H15 N2 Br)2 PbBr4 , the broad and weak self-trapped exciton (STE) emission at ambient conditions is considerably enhanced before 3.6 GPa, which originates from more distorted [PbBr4 ]2- seesaw units upon compression. Notably, a narrow FE emission in (C7 H15 N2 Br)2 PbBr4 appears at 3.6 GPa, and then this FE emission is gradually strengthened up to 8.4 GPa. High pressure structural characterizations reveal that anisotropic contraction of (C7 H15 N2 Br)2 PbBr4 results in a noticeable reduction in the distance between adjacent [PbBr4 ]2- seesaw units, as well as an obvious enhancement of crystal stiffness. Consequently, the electronic connectivity in (C7 H15 N2 Br)2 PbBr4 is sufficiently promoted above 3.6 GPa, which is also supported with theoretical calculations. The elevation of electronic connectivity and enhanced stiffness together lead to pressure-induced FE emission and subsequent emission enhancement in quasi-0D (C7 H15 N2 Br)2 PbBr4 .

RESUMO

This study aimed to investigate the effect of hyaluronic acid (HA) gel regulating the expression of Runx2 and osteocalcin (OCN) on osteoblast mineralization nodules and fracture callus formation. To achieve this aim, MC3T3-E1 cells were divided into two groups, the HA group and the control group, based on the intervention of HA gel. In addition, a fracture callus model was constructed to observe cell proliferation, cell mineralization, and fracture callus formation. Results showed that HA at different concentrations had no obvious outcome on the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells (P>0.05). The area of mineralized nodules in the HA intervention group (65.38±4.27) was higher than in the control (9.52±2.16, P<0.05). The expression levels of Runx2 and OCN in the HA intervention group were higher than control (P<0.05). The callus area in the HA group (110.05±4.16) and (143.16±8.84) was significantly higher as against control (72.51±6.32, 88.92±5.28) at 2 and 4 weeks after intervention (P<0.05). It was concluded that HA gel promotes the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts by regulation of Runx2 and OCN, and then promotes the formation of mineralized nodules of osteoblasts and fracture callus, thereby promoting fracture healing.

RESUMO

Chiral zero-dimensional hybrid metal halides (0D HMHs) could combine excellent optical properties and chirality, making them promising for circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). However, chiral 0D HMHs with efficient CPL have been rarely reported. Here, we propose an efficient strategy to achieve simultaneously high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and large dissymmetry factor (glum ), by integrating achiral and chiral ligands into 0D HMHs. Specifically, three pairs of chiral 0D hybrid indium-antimony chlorides are synthesized by combing achiral guanidine with three types of chiral methylbenzylammonium-based derivatives as the organic cations. These chiral 0D HMHs exhibit near-unity PLQY and large glum values up to around ±1×10-2 . The achiral guanidine ligand is not only essential to crystallize these hybrid indium-antimony chlorides to achieve near-unity PLQYs, but also greatly enhances the chirality induction from organic ligands to inorganic units in these 0D HMHs. Furthermore, the choice of different chiral ligands can modify the strength of hydrogen bonding interactions in these 0D HMHs, to maximize their glum values. Overall, this study provides a robust way to realize efficient CPL in chiral HMHs, expanding their applications in chiroptical fields.

RESUMO

Zero-dimensional hybrid metal halides (0D HMHs) are attractive due to their intriguing self-trapped exciton (STE) emission properties. However, the effect of organic cations on the emission of 0D HMHs is relatively underexplored. Herein, we report two types of 0D hybrid tin bromides, (BMe)2SnBr6 (BMe = C8N2H18) and (MeH)2SnBr6 (MeH = C7N2H16), which share similar structural features with different hydrogen bonding (HB) interactions between [SnBr6]4- anions and organic cations. The (BMe)2SnBr6 with weak HB interactions exhibits only STE emission, while the (MeH)2SnBr6 exhibits both STE and charge transfer exciton emissions owing to the strong HB interactions, resulting in an excitation-dependent emission at cryogenic conditions. Detailed structural analyses and Hirshfeld surface calculations confirm that the enhanced HB interactions are essential to obtain the multiple emissions in (MeH)2SnBr6.

RESUMO

Buyang Huanwu decoction (BYHWD), a classical prescription for ischemic stroke, has been reported to promote angiogenesis after focal ischemia. However, the mechanisms of the contribution of BYHWD on angiogenesis are still unclear. Connexin 43 (Cx43) played important roles in the functions of neurogliovascular unit. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the potential role of Cx43 in angiogenesis of the ischemic brain after BYHWD treatment. Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was used to establish the model of focal ischemia. BYHWD was administrated intragastrically twice a day after MCAO with or without Gap26 (a specific Cx43 inhibitor). Western blot, neurological deficits, immunofluorescent staining, and Evans blue dye were used to confirm the role of Cx43 in angiogenesis after BYHWD treatment. The expression levels of total Cx43 and phosphorylated Cx43 were upregulated by BYHWD and peaked at 7 days post MCAO. Inhibition of Cx43 with Gap26 significantly attenuated the protective role of BYHWD in neurological behavior. BYHWD treatment promoted angiogenesis demonstrated by increased microvascular density, upregulated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1), while inhibition of Cx43 with Gap26 attenuated these effects of BYHWD. In addition, Gap26 inhibited the beneficial effect of BYHWD on blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity. These results suggested that Cx43 mediated the angiogenesis of BYHWD via VEGF and Ang-1 after focal ischemic stroke.

RESUMO

Zero-dimensional (0D) hybrid metal halides with perfect host-guest structures are promising candidates to construct circularly polarized luminescence (CPL)-active materials. However, it still remains challenging to obtain 0D chiral metal halides with simultaneously strong CPL and high photoluminescence quantum yield. Here, a new enantiomeric pair of 0D hybrid lead-tin bromides, (RR/SS-C6 N2 H16 )2 Pb0.968 Sn0.032 Br6 ⋅ 2H2 O (R/S-PbSnBr ⋅ H2 O), is reported. The R/S-PbSnBr ⋅ H2 O compounds not only show intriguing self-trapped exciton emissions with near-unity quantum yield, but also present intense CPL with a dissymmetry factor glum of ±3.0×10-3 . Such CPL activities originate from the asymmetric [SnBr6 ]4- luminophores in R/S-PbSnBr ⋅ H2 O, due to the induced structural chirality by the organic ligands via N-H⋅⋅⋅Br hydrogen bonds. Furthermore, CPL emissions with tunable colors from R/S-PbSnBr ⋅ H2 O and dehydrated compounds are reversibly observed, which extends their chiroptical applications.

RESUMO

Constructing three-dimensional (3D) metamaterials from functional nanoparticles endows them with emerging collective properties tailored by the packing geometries. Herein, we report 3D supercrystals self-assembled from upconversion nanorods (NaYF4:Yb,Er NRs), which exhibit both translational ordering of NRs and orientational ordering between constituent NRs in the superlattice (SL). The construction of 3D reciprocal space mappings (RSMs) based on synchrotron-based X-ray scattering measurements was developed to uncover the complex structure of such an assembly. That is, the two main orthogonal sets of hexagonal close-packing (hcp)-like SLs share the [110]SL axis, and NRs within the SL possess orientational relationships of [120]NR//[100]SL, [210]NR//[010]SL, and [001]NR//[001]SL. Notably, these supercrystals containing well-aligned NRs exhibit collectively anisotropic upconversion fluorescence in two perpendicular directions. This study not only demonstrates novel crystalline superstructures and functionality of NR-based 3D assemblies but also offers a unique tool for deciphering a wide range of complex nanoparticle supercrystals.

RESUMO

Engineering a facile and controllable approach to modulate the spectral properties of lanthanide-doped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) is always an ongoing challenge. Herein, long-range ordered, distinct two-dimensional (2D) binary nanoparticle superlattices (BNSLs) composed of NaREF4 :Yb/Er (RE = Y and Gd) UCNPs and plasmonic metallic nanoparticles (Au NPs), including AB, AB3 , and AB13 lattices, are fabricated via a slow evaporation-driven self-assembly to achieve plasmonic modulation of upconversion luminescence (UCL). Optical measurements reveal that typical red-green UCL from UCNPs can be effectively modulated into reddish output in BNSLs, with a drastically shortened lifetime. Notably, for AB3 - and AB13 -type BNSLs with more proximal Au NPs around each UCNP, modified UCL with fine-structured spectral lineshape is observed. These differences could be interpreted by the interplay of collective plasmon resonance introduced by 2D periodic Au arrays and spectrally selective energy transfer between UCNPs and Au. Thus, fabricating UCNP-Au BNSLs with desired lattice parameters and NP configurations could be a promising way to tailor the UCL through controlled plasmonic modulation.

RESUMO

Nonlinear metasurfaces offer new paradigm for boosting optical effect beyond limitations of conventional materials. In this work, we present an alternative way to produce pronounced third-harmonic generation (THG) based on nonlinear field resonances rather than linear field enhancement, which is a typical strategy for achieving a strong nonlinear response. By designing and studying a nonlinear plasmonic-graphene metasurface at terahertz regime with hybrid-guided modes and bound states in the continuum modes, it is found that a THG with a narrow bandwidth can be observed, thanks to the strong resonance generated between a weak THG field and these modes. Such strong nonlinear field resonance greatly enhances the photon-photon interactions, thus resulting in a large effective nonlinear coefficient of the whole system. This finding provides new opportunity for studying nonlinear optical metasurfaces.

RESUMO

"Ruaner" pear (Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim.) is a fruit crop that is frequently served frozen in China. It is a typical postharvest ripening fruit that needs to ripen after harvest before it can be eaten, and freezing-thawing is one way that pears are treated during postharvest ripening. In order to study the physical-chemical composition and quality-related changes in "Ruaner" pears that result the freezing-thawing period, "Ruaner" pears were kept in a freezer (-20 °C) for 7 days, after which they were transferred to room temperature for thawing. The color of the peel of the "Ruaner" pears changed from yellow-green to yellow and then brown. The chlorophyll content and titratable acidity (TA) decreased significantly throughout 0-12 h period. The carotenoid content tended to rise and then decrease, peaking at 3 h after thawing (HAT), while the soluble solids content (SSC), firmness, total phenolic content, and total flavonoid content all generally decreased. The composition of soluble sugars and organic acids was examined in "Ruaner" pears, and the major soluble sugars were fructose and glucose, with citric acid being the most abundant organic acid. The data suggest that freezing-thawing significantly changes firmness, water content, SSC, and TA in "Ruaner" pears. At 3-4 HAT, "Ruaner" pears have moderate hardness, high water content, low acid content, and higher total phenolic, total flavonoid, and soluble solids content. Therefore, 3-4 HAT is the best time for pears in terms of both table and processing quality.

RESUMO

"Starkrimson" is a traditional apple cultivar that was developed a long time ago and was widely cultivated in the arid region of the northern Wei River of China. However, little information regarding the quality characteristics of "Starkrimson" fruit has been reported in this area. To elucidate these characteristics, the color, soluble sugars, organic acids, anthocyanins and aroma components were measured during the ripening period through the use of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results indicated that the changes in anthocyanin contents took place later than the changes in the Commission International Eclairage (CIE) parameters. Meanwhile, cyanidin 3-galactoside (cy3-gal), fructose, sucrose, glucose and malic acid were the primary organic compounds, and 1-butanol-2-methyl-acetate, 2-hexenal and 1-hexanol were the most abundant aroma components in the skin. Furthermore, rapidly changing soluble sugars and organic acid synchronization took place in the early ripening period, while rapidly changing aroma components occurred later, on the basis of fresh weight. This result suggested that the production of aroma components might be a useful index of apple maturity.

RESUMO

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most prevalent consequences of diabetes, with a high incidence and disability rate. The DPN's pathogenesis is extremely complex and yet to be fully understood. Persistent high glucose metabolism, nerve growth factor deficiency, microvascular disease, oxidative stress, peripheral nerve cell apoptosis, immune factors, and other factors have been implicated in the pathogenesis of DPN. Astragalus mongholicus is a commonly used plant used to treat DPN in clinical settings. Its rich chemical components mainly include Astragalus polysaccharide, Astragalus saponins, Astragalus flavones, etc., which play a vital role in the treatment of DPN. This review aimed to summarize the pathogenesis of DPN and the studies on the mechanism of the effective components of Astragalus mongholicus in treating DPN. This is of great significance for the effective use of Chinese herbal medicine and the promotion of its status and influence on the world.

RESUMO

Chiral zero-dimensional hybrid metal halides (0D HMHs) are being extensively studied as they can directly generate circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) with high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs), yet improving their luminescence dissymmetry factor (g lum) remains a challenge. This study proposes a general strategy to boost the g lum value of chiral 0D HMHs by optimizing the off-centering distortion of inorganic octahedra. Accordingly, (R/S-MBA)2(2MA)In0.95Sb0.05Cl6 (MBA = α-methylbenzylammonium, 2MA = dimethylamine) and (R/S-MBA)2(3MA)In0.95Sb0.05Cl6 (3MA = trimethylamine) with near-unity PLQYs are accordingly synthesized. With increasing the from 0.012 to 0.020, the |g lum| is accordingly increased from 7.8 × 10-3 to 2.0 × 10-2. Notably, the |g lum| can be further boosted to an impressive value of 3.8 × 10-2 while maintaining near-unity PLQYs by continuously increasing the . Experimental results reveal that the choice of achiral ligands and varied Sb3+ dopant concentrations can modulate the distribution and strength of hydrogen bonds around indium-antimony halogen octahedra, respectively, thus regulating the parameter of octahedra in 0D hybrid metal halides. Additionally, light-emitting diodes with a polarization of 1.6% are fabricated. This work sheds light on the relationship between the distortion of inorganic octahedra and the g lum value.

RESUMO

Objective: Several circulating microRNAs, including microRNA-126-3p, have been identified as diagnostic and prognostic biomarker of cardiovascular disease. However, whether microRNA-126-3p is an independent risk predictor for coronary artery calcification is unclear. Methods: In this prospective single-center study, we collected blood samples from coronary artery atherosclerosis patients (n = 54), patients with coronary artery calcification (n = 33) and controls (n = 56). Total RNA was extracted from plasma and blood cells with TRIzol reagents. The microRNA-126-3p level was determined via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: MicroRNA-126-3p levels were significantly increased in patients with coronary artery calcification than in coronary artery atherosclerosis patients or controls. The highest expression of microRNA-126-3p was observed in patients with moderate calcification who were diagnosed with Grade 2 calcification by coronary angiography. Age, microRNA-126-3p expression in veins, hypertension and diabetes significantly influence the occurrence of coronary artery calcification, among which diabetes and venous microRNA-126-3p expression were found to be independent risk factors for coronary artery calcification. Conclusions: Taken together, the data in this study suggest that circulating microRNA-126-3p may be a novel noninvasive biomarker for coronary artery calcification. Regulating microRNA-126-3p expression may be an effective and promising strategy for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, especially coronary artery calcification.

RESUMO

Hybrid metal halides (HMHs) with efficient circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) have application prospects in many fields, due to their abundant host-guest structures and high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). However, CPLs in HMHs are predominantly excited by light or electricity, limiting their use in multivariate environments. It is necessary to explore a novel excitation method to extend the application of chiral HMHs as smart stimuli-responsive optical materials. In this work, an enantiomeric pair of 0D hybrid manganese bromides, [H2(2R,4R)-(+)/(2S,4S)-(-)-2,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)pentane]MnBr4 [(R/S)-1] is presented, which exhibits efficient CPL emissions with near-unity PLQYs and high dissymmetry factors of ± 2.0 × 10-3. Notably, (R/S)-1 compounds exhibit unprecedented and bright circularly polarized mechanoluminescence (CPML) emissions under mechanical stimulation. Moreover, (R/S)-1 possess high mechanical force sensitivities with mechanoluminescence (ML) emissions detectable under 0.1 N force stimulation. Furthermore, this ML emission exhibits an extraordinary antithermal quenching effect in the temperature range of 300-380 K, which is revealed to originate from a thermal activation energy compensation mechanism from trap levels to Mn(II) 4T1 level. Based on their intriguing optical properties, these compounds as chiral force-responsive materials are demonstrated in multilevel confidential information encryption.

RESUMO

Beige fat activation involves a fuel switch to fatty acid oxidation following chronic cold adaptation. Mitochondrial acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 1 (ACSL1) localizes in the mitochondria and plays a key role in fatty acid oxidation; however, the regulatory mechanism of the subcellular localization remains poorly understood. Here, we identify an endosomal trafficking component sortilin (encoded by Sort1) in adipose tissues that shows dynamic expression during beige fat activation and facilitates the translocation of ACSL1 from the mitochondria to the endolysosomal pathway for degradation. Depletion of sortilin in adipocytes results in an increase of mitochondrial ACSL1 and the activation of AMPK/PGC1α signaling, thereby activating beige fat and preventing high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and insulin resistance. Collectively, our findings indicate that sortilin controls adipose tissue fatty acid oxidation by substrate fuel selection during beige fat activation and provides a potential targeted approach for the treatment of metabolic diseases.

RESUMO

In the present study, evolution of apple color (L* and a/b), the accumulation of anthocyanins and the activity of the related enzymes, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), chalcone isomerase (CHI), dihydroflavonol4-reductase (DFR) and UDP-Glucose: flavonoid-3-O-galactosyl transferase (UFGT), were investigated in bagged non-red apple cultivars ('Granny Smith' and 'Golden Delicious') and red apple cultivars ('Starkrimon' and 'Pink Lady'). Young fruits were bagged 40-45 days after flowering (DAF), and fruits of 'Golden Delicious' and 'Starkrimon' were uncovered and exposed to light 120 DAF, while those of 'Granny Smith' and 'Pink Lady' were exposed for 160 DAF. Results showed that cyanidin 3-galactoside (cy3-gal) was the most abundant anthocyanin in both non-red and red cultivars. Level of anthocyanins was higher in 'Granny Smith' than in 'Golden Delicious', indicating that red color was easier to develop in green cultivar 'Granny Smith' than in yellow cultivar 'Golden Delicious' after bag removal. The cy3-gal accumulation of non-red cultivars tested was not significantly correlated with PAL, CHI and DFR activity, but was significantly correlated with UFGT activity. During the reddening of non-red apples, UFGT may be the more important factor in the anthocyanin biosynthesis.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the relationship between angiotensin II (Ang II), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO). Methods: 60 ASO patients diagnosed and treated from October 2019 to December 2021 were selected for the observation group while 30 healthy physical examiners were for the control group. The general information (gender, age, history of smoking, diabetes, and hypertension) and arterial blood pressure (systolic and diastolic blood pressure) of the two groups were collected, and parameters like disease site and duration, Fontaine stage, and ankle-brachial index (ABI) of ASO patients have been evaluated. Ang II, VEGF, uric acid (UA), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglyceride (TG), and total cholesterol (TC) were also detected for the two groups. The variations in UA, LDL, HDL, TG, and TC among two groups along with levels of Ang II and VEGF in ASO patients in accordance to conditions like the general situation, disease duration, disease site, Fontaine stage, and ABI risk level have been studied to establish a correlation between Ang II and VEGF and ASO. Results: (1) The proportion of males with a history of smoking, diabetes, and hypertension was higher (P < 0.05) among ASO patients in comparison to the control group. The diastolic blood pressure, LDL, TC, Ang II, and VEGF levels were found to be higher (P < 0.05) whereas HDL was low (P < 0.01). (2) The level of Ang II in male patients with ASO was significantly higher than that in female ASO patients (P < 0.05). In ASO patients, the levels of Ang II and VEGF increased not only with age (P < 0.01) but also with progression in Fontaine stages II, III, and IV (P < 0.01). (3) Logistic regression analysis revealed Ang II and VEGF as risk factors for ASO. (4) An AUC (area under the ROC (receiver operator characteristic) curve) for Ang II and VEGF for the diagnosis of ASO was 0.764 (good) and 0.854 (very good), respectively, while their combined AUC in diagnosing ASO was 0.901 (excellent). The AUC of Ang II and VEGF together in diagnosing ASO was greater than that of Ang II and VEGF alone along with higher specificity as well (all P < 0.05). Conclusion: Ang II and VEGF were correlated with the occurrence and development of ASO. The AUC analysis demonstrates that Ang II and VEGF were highly discriminative of ASO.
