RESUMO

The properties and functions of BMSCs were altered by the diabetic microenvironment, and its mechanism was not very clear. In recent years, the regulation of the function of BMSCs by microRNA has become a research hotspot, meanwhile, HOX genes also have been focused on and involved in multiple functions of stem cells. In this study, we investigated the role of miR-139-5p in diabetes-induced BMSC impairment. Since HOXA9 may be a target gene of miR-139-5p, we speculated that miR-139-5p/HOXA9 might be involved in regulating the biological characteristics and the function of BMSCs in diabetes. We demonstrated that the miR-139-5p expression was increased in BMSCs derived from STZ-induced diabetic rats. MiR-139-5p mimics were able to inhibit cell proliferation, and migration and promoted senescence and apoptosis in vitro. MiR-139-5p induced the down-regulated expression of HOXA9 and c-Fos in BMSCs derived from normal rats. Moreover, miR-139-5p inhibitors reversed the tendency in diabetic-derived BMSCs. Further, gain-and-loss function experiments indicated that miR-139-5p regulated the functions of BMSCs by targeting HOXA9 and c-Fos. In vivo wound model experiments showed that the downregulation of miR-139-5p further promoted the epithelialization and angiogenesis of diabetic BMSC-mediated skin. In conclusion, induction of miR-139-5p upregulation mediated the impairment of BMSCs through the HOXA9/c-Fos pathway in diabetic rats. Therefore, miR-139-5p/HOXA9 might be an important therapeutic target in treating diabetic BMSCs and diabetic complications in the future.

Heavy metal(loid)s contamination prevails in the water-soil-plant system around non-ferrous metal mining areas. The present study aimed to evaluate the heavy metal(loid)s contamination in Nandan Pb-Zn mining area (Guangxi, China). A total of 36 river water samples, 75 paired paddy soil and rice samples, and 128 paired upland soil and plant samples were collected from this area. The concentrations of arsenic (As), lead (Pb), and cadmium (Cd) in these samples were measured. Results showed that the average water quality indexes (WQIs) at the 12 sampling sites along the main river ranged from 41 to 5008, indicating the water qualities decreasing from "Excellent" to "Undrinkable". The WQIs nearby tailings or industrial park were significantly higher than those at the other sites. 34.0% and 64.5% of soil samples exceeded the risk screening values for As and Cd. The Pb and Cd concentrations in all rice samples exceeded the Chinese food safety limits by 18.7% and 82.7%, respectively. Leafy vegetables had a higher concentration of As, Pb, and Cd than other vegetables, exceeding the maximum permissible limits by 14.1%, 61.2%, and 40.0%, respectively. The biological accumulation coefficient (BAC) of Cd was the highest in rice and lettuce leaves. The hazard quotients (HQs) of As and Cd, indicating non-carcinogenic risks, were 4.15 and 1.76 in adult males, and 3.40 and 1.45 in adult females, all higher than the permitted level (1.0). The carcinogenic probabilities of As and Cd from rice and leafy vegetables consumption were all higher than 1 × 10-4. We conclude that metal(loid)s contamination of the water-soil-plant system has posed great non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks to the local population.

Low selectivity and poor activity of photocatalytic CO2 reduction process are usually limiting factors for its applicability. Herein, a hierarchical electron harvesting system is designed on CoNiP hollow nano-millefeuille (CoNiP NH), which enables the charge enrichment on CoNi dual active sites and selective conversion of CO2 to CH4 . The CoNiP serves as an electron harvester and photonic "black hole" accelerating the kinetics for CO2 -catalyzed reactions. Moreover, the dual sites form from highly stable CoONiC intermediates, which thermodynamically not only lower the reaction energy barrier but also transform the reaction pathways, thus enabling the highly selective generation of CH4 from CO2 . As an outcome, the CoNiP NH/black phosphorus with dual sites leads to a tremendously improved photocatalytic CH4 generation with a selectivity of 86.6% and an impressive activity of 38.7 µmol g-1  h-1 .

Photocatalytic conversion of carbon dioxide into fuels and valuable chemicals is a promising method for carbon neutralization and solving environmental problems. Through a simple thermal-oxidative exfoliation method, the O element was doped while exfoliated bulk g-C3N4into ultrathin structure g-C3N4. Benefitting from the ultrathin structure of g-C3N4, the larger surface area and shorter electrons migration distance effectively improve the CO2reduction efficiency. In addition, density functional thory computation proves that O element doping introduces new impurity energy levels, which making electrons easier to be excited. The prepared photocatalyst reduction of CO2to CO (116µmol g-1h-1) and CH4(47µmol g-1h-1).

Objective To summarize clinical characteristics and investigate possible pathogenic gene of Klippel-Feil syndrome(KFS)by the self-designed multigene panel sequencing,so as to decipher the molecular basis for early diagnosis and targeted therapy.Methods From January 2015 to December 2018,we consecutively recruited 25 patients who were diagnosed with KFS in Peking Union Medical College Hospital.The demographic information,clinical manifestations,physical examination and radiological assessments were analyzed.Multigene panel sequencing was performed after DNA extraction from peripheral blood.The possible pathogenic mutations of KFS were explored on the basis of bioinformatics analysis.Results The KFS cohort consisted of 25 patients,including 15 males and 10 females,with a mean age of(12.9±7.3)years.Limited cervical range of motion was the most common clinical feature(12 cases,48%).Based on the Samartzis classification,the proportion of patients suffered from short neck(P=0.031)and limited cervical range of motion(P=0.026)in type Ⅲ KFS was significantly higher than that in type Ⅱ and type Ⅰ KFS.Panel sequencing detected a total of 11 pathogenic missense mutations in eight patients,including COL6A1,COL6A2,CDAN1,GLI3,FLNB,CHRNG,MYH3,POR,and TNXB.There was no pathogenic mutation found in five reported pathogenic genes(GDF6,MEOX1,GDF3,MYO18B and RIPPLY2)associated with KFS.Conclusions Our study has shown that patients with multiple contiguous cervical fusions are more likely to manifest short neck,limited cervical range of motion,and clinical triad.Therefore,these patients need additional attention and follow-up.Our analysis highlights novel KFS-related genetic variants,such as COL6A and CDAN1,extending the spectrum of known mutations contributing to this syndrome and providing a basis for elucidating the pathogenesis of KFS.

Direct water splitting over photocatalysts is a prospective strategy to convert solar energy into hydrogen energy. Nevertheless, because of the undesirable electron accumulation at the surface, the overall water-splitting efficiency is seriously restricted by the poor charge separation/transfer ability. Here, an all-organic donor-acceptor (D-A) system through crafting carbon rings units-conjugated tubular graphitic carbon nitride (C-TCN) is proposed. Through a range of characterizations and theoretical calculations, the incorporation of carbon rings units via continuous π-conjugated bond builds a D-A system, which can drive intramolecular charge transfer to realize highly efficient charge separation. More importantly, the tubular structure and the incorporated carbon rings units cause a significant downshift of the valence band, of which the potential is beneficial to the activation for O2 evolution. When serving as photocatalyst for overall water splitting, C-TCN displays considerable performance with H2 and O2 production rates of 204.6 and 100.8 µmol g-1 h-1 , respectively. The corresponding external quantum efficiency reaches 2.6% at 405 nm, and still remains 1.7% at 420 nm. This work demonstrates that the all-organic D-A system conceptualized from organic solar cell can offer promotional effect for overall water splitting by addressing the charge accumulation problem rooted in the hydrogen evolution reaction.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is an autosomal dominant inherited endocrine tumor syndrome caused by inactivating variants of the MEN1 gene. The aim of this study is to explore the clinical and genetic characteristics of four MEN1 patients. We isolated genomic deoxyribonucleic acid from lymphocytes, parathyroid, and thymic tumoral tissue specimens from the MEN1 patients. All exons of the MEN1 and CDNK1B genes and adjacent exon-intron sequences were amplified by polymerase chain reaction and subsequently sequenced. Further, the splice alterations were studied by sequencing the amplified RT-PCR products for MEN1 cDNA. We identified four heterozygous MEN1 germline variants: c.564delC, c.1268G>A, IVS5+5delG, and c.1546_1547insC. Both c.564delC and IVS5+5delG were novel variants. The impact of the MEN1 splice variant, IVS5+5delG, was evaluated using bioinformatics and in vitro analyses. The analyses indicated that this variant resulted in skipping of the neighboring exon and was disease-causing. Two novel somatic variants, c.249_252delGTCT and c.313_314insC, were found. Additionally, loss of heterozygosity (LOH) for the MEN1 locus (IVS5+5delG and c.564delC) was found in tumor tissue samples from the MEN1 patients, consistent with Knudson's two-hit mechanism. We identified four MEN1 germline variants and two novel somatic variants. Early recognition of the phenotype coupled with variant screening of the MEN1 gene is the key to diagnosing and treating MEN1 effectively at an early stage.

Aeromonas salmonicida is a gram-negative bacterium that is the causative agent of furunculosis. An A. salmonicida strain was isolated from diseased turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) with the sign of furunculosis from North China. Based on vapA gene, the strain was further classified as A. salmonicida subsp. masoucida RZ6S-1. Culturing RZ6S-1 strain at high temperature (28°C) obtained the virulence attenuated strain RZ6S. Genome sequence comparison between the two strains revealed the loss of the type IV secretion system (T4SS) and type III secretion system (T3SS) from the native plasmid pAsmB-1 and pAsmC-1 of wild-type strain RZ6S-1, respectively. Further study demonstrated that the wild-type strain RZ6S-1, but not its derivative mutant RZ6S, can stimulate apoptosis. Elevated protein level of cleaved caspase-3 was detected from epithelioma papulosum cyprinid (EPC) cells infected with wild-type strain RZ6S-1 as compared with that infected with RZ6S strain. Meanwhile, the invasion of the mutant strain RZ6S was about 17-fold higher than the wild-type strain RZ6S-1, suggesting that some protein(s) from A. salmonicida subsp. masoucida RZ6S-1 suppress its invasion. The RZ6S mutant strain was attenuated, since its LD50 is over 10,000 times higher compared to the wild-type strain as revealed in the turbot infection model.

Kallmann syndrome (KS) is a rare developmental disorder that manifests as congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism with anosmia. More than 19 genes have been found to be associated with KS. However, approximately 70% of the causes of KS remain unclear. Here, we studied seven KS patients, from three families, who had delayed puberty and olfactory bulb dysplasia. However, the families of these patients showed a range of other unique clinical features, including hearing loss, anosmia (to varying degrees) and unilateral renal agenesis. We performed whole exome sequencing and copy number variation (CNV) sequencing on samples acquired from these patients. We identified two novel mutations (c.844delC in ANOS1, c.475C>T in SOX10) and a novel trigenic pattern, PROKR2/CHD7/FEZF1 (c.337T>C in PROKR2, c.748C>G in FEZF1, c.8773G>A in CHD7). The c.844delC mutation in the ANOS1 gene was predicted to generate a truncated form of the anosmin-1 protein. SIFT and PolyPhen-2 predicted that the c.475C>T mutation in SOX10 had a damaging effect. The PROKR2 mutation (c.337T>C) was previously reported as harmful. No pathogenic copy number alterations were detected. Our study expands the genotypic and phenotypic spectrum of KS, a disease that shows considerable clinical and genetic heterogeneity. The application of whole exome sequencing could facilitate our understanding of the pathogenesis of KS.

Although photocatalysis is one of the most promising technologies for environmental and energy issues, the irreconcilable contradiction between the absorption of the visible light and the strong redox capability of the photocatalyst and the low photocatalytic reaction kinetics result in the poor efficiency. Here, a composite photocatalyst is reported with high redox capability and accelerated reaction kinetics synergistically utilizing 2D semiconducting structural advantages and the noble-metal-free Schottky junction effect. The 2D structure can not only increase the bandgap of the photocatalyst but also improve the transfer and separation of the photogenerated charge carriers. Furthermore, the introduction of the noble-metal-free Schottky junction effect accelerates the photocatalytic reaction kinetics. The Schottky barrier can also prevent the photogenerated charges trapped by the electron acceptor from flowing back to the semiconductor, which can further boost the photocatalytic performance. The transfer process of the photogenerated charge carriers is also researched in detail by the comprehensive characterization methods, which enable the photocatalytic mechanism to be revealed.

Black phosphorus (BP), a star-shaped two-dimensional material, has attracted considerable attention owing to its unique chemical and physical properties. BP shows great potential in photocatalysis area because of its excellent optical properties; however, its applications in this field have been limited to date. Now, a Z-scheme heterojunction of 2D/2D BP/monolayer Bi2 WO6 (MBWO) is fabricated by a simple and effective method. The BP/MBWO heterojunction exhibits enhanced photocatalytic performance in photocatalytic water splitting to produce H2 and NO removal to purify air; the highest H2 evolution rate of BP/MBWO is 21042 µmol g-1 , is 9.15 times that of pristine MBWO and the NO removal ratio was as high as 67 %. A Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism is proposed based on monitoring of . O2 - , . OH, NO2 , and NO3 - species in the reaction. This work broadens applications of BP and highlights its promise in the treatment of environmental pollution and renewable energy issues.

BACKGROUND: Pseudohypoparathyroidism type 1A (PHP1A) is a rare genetic disease primarily characterized by resistance to parathyroid hormone along with hormonal resistance and other features of Albright hereditary osteodystrophy (AHO). It is caused by heterozygous inactivating mutations in the maternal allele of the GNAS gene, which encodes the stimulatory G-protein alpha subunit (Gsα) and regulates production of the second messenger cyclic AMP (cAMP). Herein, we report a case of of PHP1A with atypical clinical manifestations (oligomenorrhea, subclinical hypothyroidism, and normocalcemia) and explore the underlying genetic cause in this patient. METHODS: Blood samples were collected from the patient, her family members, and 100 healthy controls. The 13 exons and flanking splice sites of the GNAS gene were amplified by PCR and sequenced. To further assess whether the novel mutation resulted in gain or loss of function of Gsα, we examined the level of cAMP activity associated with this mutation through in vitro functional studies by introducing the target mutation into a human GNAS plasmid. RESULTS: A novel heterozygous c.715A > G (p.N239D) mutation in exon 9 of the GNAS gene was identified in the patient. This mutation was also found in her mother, who was diagnosed with pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism. An in vitro cAMP assay showed a significant decrease in PTH-induced cAMP production in cells transfected with the mutant plasmid, compared to that in the wild-type control cells (P < 0.01), which was consistent with loss of Gsa activity. CONCLUSION: We identified a novel GNAS mutation that altered Gsα function, which furthers our understanding of the pathogenesis of this disease. Screening for GNAS mutations should be considered in suspected cases of PHP1A even if the classical signs are not present.

The type VI secretion system (T6SS) was recently shown to modulate quorum sensing and the stress response in Vibrio anguillarum serotype O1 strain NB10. It is not known whether there is a functionally active T6SS in other serotypes of V. anguillarum. Here, homologues to T6SS cluster VtsEFGH and hemolysin-coregulated protein (Hcp)-encoding genes were found to be prevalent and conserved in clinical isolates of V. anguillarum from fish, including four O1 and five non-O1 serotype strains. Unexpectedly, only the non-O1 serotype strains expressed VtsEFGH and Hcp under laboratory and marine-like conditions, in contrast to the serotype O1 strains. This suggested that the V. anguillarum non-O1 serotype strains tested have constitutive expression of T6SS. Examination of a representative non-O1 strain, MHK3, showed that Hcp production was growth phase dependent and that maximum Hcp production was observed in the exponential growth phase. Moreover, Hcp production by MHK3 was most active under warm marine-like conditions. Further examination revealed a correlation of the constitutive expression of T6SS with bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli and Edwardsiella tarda. The work presented here suggests that the constitutive expression of T6SS provides V. anguillarum with advantage in microbial competition in marine environments.

Routine surveillance revealed that the prevalence of P[4] rotaviruses circulating in children with acute diarrhea in Guangxi Province, China, increased in 2014. However, VP7 genotyping for these P[4] rotaviruses was unsuccessful. Exhaustive database searching and sequence analysis indicated that the G genotype of these P[4] rotaviruses was G2, and the VP7 genes clustered with recently emerging G2 strains in several countries within an emergent evolutionary lineage that was distinct from the previously designated lineages I-IV as well as lineage V including porcine rotaviruses. Further studies are essential to monitor the potential global spread of this emerging G2 rotavirus.

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis-ectodermal dystrophy syndrome (APECED) is a rare autosomal recessive disease due to mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene, which encodes a transcription factor that induces the expression of peripheral tissue-specific antigens in medullary thymic epithelial cells. AIM: The purpose of this study was to identify the underlying genetic cause in a Chinese family diagnosed with APECED. METHOD: Peripheral blood samples were collected from family members. All exons of the AIRE gene and adjacent exon-intron sequences were amplified by PCR and subsequently sequenced. The functional consequence of the mutations was analyzed by cell transfection and in vitro assays. RESULTS: A novel c.483_484insC mutation in exon 4 was identified, which resulted in a frame shift predicted to generate a truncated protein containing the first 163 AIRE amino acids followed by 52 aberrant amino acids. Confocal immunofluorescence microscopy of COS-7 cells transfected with wild-type and mutant AIRE constructs showed that wild-type AIRE protein was localized mainly in the nucleus, while mutant AIRE was localized mainly in the cytoplasm. A luciferase reporter assay showed that the identified mutation dramatically inhibited the transactivation activity of AIRE in vitro. CONCLUSION: We identified a novel AIRE mutation which alters the intracellular location and transcription activity of AIRE, and has implications in the pathogenesis of APECED.

OBJECTIVES: IL-1beta is a potent proinflammatory, pro-fibrogenetic and pro-athrosclerosis cytokine which has been shown to play an important role in an expanding number of noninfectious, chronic inflammatory conditions including cardiovascular disease, renal fibrosis, rheumatoid arthritis and even type 2 diabetes. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist widely used for the treatment of hypertension, diabetic nephropathy and congestive heart failure. In this study, we attempted to clarify whether losartan has an inhibitory effect on IL-1beta. To further elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying the anti-IL-1beta property of losartan, we studied the LPS+ATP-induced activation of NALP3 inflammasome which controls the muturation and secretion of IL-1beta. METHODS: LPS and ATP were used to stimulate the release of IL-1beta from thioglycollate-elicited macrophages from BALB/c mice. The production of IL-1beta was evaluated by ELISA assay and NALP3, caspase-1, IL-beta mRNA levels were determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: In cultured thioglycollate-elicited macrophages, we observed that LPS + ATP greatly enhanced IL-1 beta secretion (6938.00 +/- 83.45; P < 0.05) and the mRNA levels of NALP3, caspase-1 which are two main components of NALP3 inflammasome (60.88 +/- 8.28; 1.31 +/- 0.04, P < 0.05 for both). The macrophages co-cultured with losartan showed low production of IL-1beta (3907.50 +/- 143.61; P < 0.05) and low production of NALP3, caspase-1mRNA (29.82 +/- 6.92; 1.12 +/- 0.05, P < 0.05 for both). Losartan did not reduce IL-1beta mRNA(P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that the NALP3 inflammasome is up-regulated and activated in the mouse macrophage in response to LPS + ATP stimulation. Losartan is able to suppress the LPS + ATP-induced production of IL-1beta protein. In addition, this effectmay be partially mediated by suppressing NALP3 inflammasome activation.

Photoactivated therapy has gradually emerged as a promising and rapid method for combating bacteria, aimed at overcoming the emergence of drug-resistant strains resulting from the inappropriate use of antibiotics and the subsequent health risks. In this work, we report the facile fabrication of Zn3[Fe(CN)6]/g-C3N4 nanocomposites (denoted as ZHF/g-C3N4) through the in-situ loading of zinc hexacyanoferrate nanospheres onto two-dimensional g-C3N4 sheets using a simple metal-organic frameworks construction method. The ZHF/g-C3N4 nanocomposite exhibits enhanced antibacterial activity through the synergistic combination of the excellent photothermal properties of ZHF and the photodynamic capabilities of g-C3N4. Under dual-light irradiation (420 nm + 808 nm NIR), the nanocomposites achieve remarkable bactericidal efficacy, eliminating 99.98% of Escherichia coli and 99.87% of Staphylococcus aureus within 10 minutes. Furthermore, in vivo animal experiments have demonstrated the outstanding capacity of the composite in promoting infected wound healing, achieving a remarkable wound closure rate of 99.22% after a 10-day treatment period. This study emphasizes the potential of the ZHF/g-C3N4 nanocomposite in effective antimicrobial applications, expanding the scope of synergistic photothermal/photodynamic therapy strategies.

Trivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (tOPV) has been withdrawn and instead an inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) and bivalent type 1 and type 3 OPV (bOPV) sequential immunization schedule has been implemented since 2016, but no immune persistence data are available for this polio vaccination strategy. This study aimed to assess immune persistence following different polio sequential immunization schedules. Venous blood was collected at 24, 36, and 48 months of age from participants who had completed sequential schedules of combined IPV and OPV in phase III clinical trials. The serum neutralizing antibody titers against poliovirus were determined, and the poliovirus-specific antibody-positive rates were evaluated. A total of 1104 participants were enrolled in this study. The positive rates of poliovirus type 1- and type 3-specific antibodies among the sequential immunization groups showed no significant difference at 24, 36, or 48 months of age. The positive rates of poliovirus type 2-specific antibody in the IPV-IPV-tOPV group at all time points were nearly 100%, which was significantly higher than the corresponding rates in other immunization groups (IPV-bOPV-bOPV and IPV-IPV-bOPV). Immunization schedules involving one or two doses of IPV followed by bOPV failed to maintain a high positive rate for poliovirus type 2-specific antibody.

AIM: To investigate the influence of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ2 (PPAR-γ2) gene polymorphism rs1801282 and protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type D (PTPRD) gene polymorphism rs17584499 on the occurrence of type 2 diabetes and pioglitazone efficacy in a Chinese Han population. METHODS: One hundred ninety seven type 2 diabetes patients and 212 healthy controls were enrolled. Among them, 67 type 2 diabetes patients were administered pioglitazone (30 mg/d, po) for 3 months. All the subjects were genotyped for genetic variants in PPAR-γ2 and PTPRD using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Fasting plasma glucose, postprandial plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin, serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol were determined. RESULTS: The PPAR-γ2 gene rs1801282 polymorphism was significantly associated with type 2 diabetes susceptibility (OR=0.515, 95% CI 0.268-0.990) and the PTPRD gene rs17584499 polymorphism was also significantly associated with type 2 diabetes (OR=1.984, 95% CI 1.135-3.469) in a dominant model adjusted for age, gender and BMI. After pioglitazone treatment for 3 months, the type 2 diabetes patients with PPAR-γ2 rs1801282 CG genotypes significantly showed higher differential values of postprandial plasma glucose and serum triglyceride compared with those with rs1801282 CC genotype. The patients with PTPRD rs17584499 CT+TT genotypes showed significantly lower differential value of postprandial plasma glucose compared to those with rs17584499 CC genotype. CONCLUSION: Diabetes risk alleles in PPAR-γ2 (rs1801282) and PTPRD (rs17584499) are associated with pioglitazone therapeutic efficacy.

Bacterial aro mutants are frequently used as live attenuated vaccines for domestic animals. In this study, we characterized Edwardsiella tarda strain LSE40 with a deletion in the aroA gene. In addition to autotrophy, the aroA mutant appeared to have delayed cell division and reductions in its swarming motility, biofilm formation, and production of translocator proteins in the type III secretory system. The mutant exhibited high virulence attenuation in turbot fish, Scophthalmus maximus (L.), where the 50 % lethal dose increased by more than 3 log10 via intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection and by >2 log10 via immersion exposure compared with the wild-type parent strain. A tissue persistence study showed that the mutant retained the ability to invade and spread in turbot and viable cells could be detected up to 28 days after i.p. infection and 21 days after immersion exposure. These results suggested a pleiotropic role for aroA in the physiological behavior of E. tarda. Turbot exhibited a good humoral response and the enhanced expression of innate immune factors, interleukin 1ß and lysozyme, when vaccinated with aroA mutant at 105 CFU via i.p. injection and at 108 CFU via immersion exposure. However, the aroA mutant did not provide effective protection for turbot against edwardsiellosis following i.p. vaccination at doses of 104-106 CFU or immersion vaccination at doses of 106-108 CFU ml⁻¹. We hypothesized that the aroA mutant did not trigger an appropriate T cell-immune response in turbot against infection of E. tarda.
