RESUMO

A new cestode species, Diphyllobothrium klebanovskii sp. n., is described on the basis of experimental examination and morphological study of 51 specimens expelled from men in lower part of the Amur river and 18 specimens expelled from golden hamsters. The larval stage of this cestode is plerocercoid of type F, which is localized in muscles of Oncorhynchus keta and O. gorbuscha. D. klebanovskii sp. n. is a marine species, it differs from D. latum and other species of the genus Diphyllobothrium.

RESUMO

The research has demonstrated that 35.8% of Hypomesus pretiosus Girard and 55.9% of Osmerus eperlanus dentex Steindachner in various regions of the Far East of the USSR (Khabarovsk and Primorye territories and Sakhalin) are affected by diphyllobothriid larvae of a hitherto unknown type, indicated as the G type. Parasites are localized on the internal organs of a intermediate host such as esophagus, stomach, liver and genital organs. Diphyllobothriid larvae of the G type do not invade man, thus the indicated fishes are not epidemiologically significant in spreading diphyllobathriasis among the population in the Far East of the USSR.

RESUMO

Results of epidemiological studies of diphyllobothriasis in the Lower part of the Amur watershed have demonstrated that the disease nosogeographic range covered the entire region. Potential risk of invasion of humans and animals by the tapeworms exists all over the aforementioned area. Season of invasion coincides with the period of migration of calico and humpback salmon which are additional hosts of Diphyllobothriidae. Invasion occurs outside the Amur freshwater area; thus the real disease foci are absent in the Lower part of the Amur watershed. This is due to the fact that the disease is not induced by wide fish tapeworm, but by a marine or estuarine-marine species.

RESUMO

Copro-ovoscopic survey of the human population in the Khabarovsk Territory and the analysis of data of account of territorial sanitary epidemiological station showed that people invaded with D. klebanovskii are registered only in areas whose rivers catadromous salmon come to spawn. Most of invaded people are recorded on the seashore. The risk of tapeworm invasion and the epidemiological characteristics of the carry-over zone are discussed.

RESUMO

The diphyllobothriasis incidence in the workers of the Amur basin steamship company during 1980-1989 was studied. This rate was shown to be more than 6 times than that of other population (68.7 and 10.4 case per 100,000 person, respectively). The role of the workers of the company in the circulation of the invasion and prophylactic measures in the region were discussed.

RESUMO

The clinical manifestations of clonorchiasis were studied in 190 patients in the Amur River region. The severity of the disease correlated with the excretion rates of Clonorchis eggs. The peculiarity of the region is a rather low egg excretion; 66.8% of patients excreted as many as 100 eggs/g, 27.3%, up to 1000 eggs/g. Most examinees (94.3%) suffered from chronic gastroduodenitis and functional disorders of the biliary system.

RESUMO

The paper describes how enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and copro-ovoscopy are concurrently used to define the spread of clonorchiasis among the population of the Nanaisk District in the Khabarovsk Territory. It shows the efficiency of EIA in seroepidemiological surveys and the possibility of its use in endemic areas. The sensitivity of EIA to determine antibodies to Clonorchis antigens was 70.58% and its specificity was 98.4%. The assay is recommended for wide application in clinical and epidemiological practice in the foci of the disease. The total affliction of the population, which was calculated by 2 techniques is 33.7% +/- 3.0.
