RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To understand the perception of nursing professionals in public hospital intensive therapy units regarding patient safety. METHODS: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Eighty nursing professionals who developed welfare activities in general intensive care units in Northeastern Brazil participated. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, from May to June 2014. The textual content was submitted to the lexicographical textual analysis, and data analysis was based on the literature. RESULTS: Four classes were analyzed: need for change; actions before an adverse event; concepts of safe care; and actions that integrate safe care. It was revealed that patient safety is a consequence of the culture adopted by professionals. CONCLUSIONS: Professionals understand patient safety as a set of strategies that minimize the risk of adverse events.

RESUMO

Health surveillance guides public policies, allows for the monitoring of occupational exposures that may cause health risks, and can prevent work-related diseases. The scoping review protocol herein is designed to map studies on the surveillance of occupational exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in gas stations and identify the governmental agencies and public health measures in different countries. This review protocol is based on the Joanna Briggs Institute manual and guided by the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews. It includes research articles, theses, dissertations, and official documents on surveillance measures for occupational exposure to VOCs (i.e., benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylene) in gas stations from different countries. All languages and publication dates will be considered, and a spreadsheet will be used to extract and analyze qualitative and quantitative data. The final version will present the main surveillance measures implemented, responsible entities, results, challenges, limitations, and potential gaps in gas stations.

RESUMO

The objective is to unveil the reasons for vaccine hesitancy among parents and/or guardians of children and adolescents toward the prevention of COVID-19. This is a descriptive study, with a qualitative approach that seeks to analyze the answers to the open question "Why will you not vaccinate or have not vaccinated or are in doubt about vaccinating the children and adolescents under your responsibility, for the prevention of COVID-19?". The research included adult individuals, Brazilians, living in the country, responsible for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Data collection took place electronically in November and December 2021. The answers were organized and processed with the support of the software Iramuteq. The textual corpus of this research was composed of the response of 1,896 participants, consisting of 87% who were hesitant (1,650) and 13% (246) of parents who intend to vaccinate but who outlined some doubts and considerations about the vaccination of children and adolescents. These are reasons why parents and/or guardians have not vaccinated or are in doubt about vaccinating the children and adolescents under their responsibility for the prevention of COVID-19: fears about vaccination regarding the conception that the vaccine is in the experimental phase, fear of adverse reactions and long-term effects. The reasons for the lack of intention to vaccinate stem from the understanding of the participants that COVID-19 in children is not serious, the risks of vaccination are greater than the benefits, and the right of choice not to vaccinate.

The objective of this study is to reflect on the knowledge, competencies and skill that must be promoted during the academic education of nurses for an effective professional practice in view of a multiple-victim incident (MVI). This is an integrative literature review regarding academic nursing education. The literature survey was performed on the BDENF, LILACS, SciELO, MEDLINE, Web of Knowledge and HighWire Press databases, using the following descriptors: higher education; nursing education; emergency nursing; and mass casualty incidents. The publications permitted considerations regarding the following themes: particularities; competencies and skills essential in nursing practice in view of multiple-victim incidents; and the professors' strategies to promote those competencies and skills. The literature analysis demonstrated that nursing education should be configured as a space to develop critical thinking skills, which requires professors to have an eclectic educational background.

RESUMO

This study identified and mapped worldwide surveillance actions and initiatives of drinking water quality implemented by government agencies and public health services. The scoping review was conducted between July 2021 and August 2022 based on the Joanna Briggs Institute method. The search was performed in relevant databases and gray literature; 49 studies were retrieved. Quantitative variables were presented as absolute and relative frequencies, while qualitative variables were analyzed using the IRaMuTeQ software. The actions developed worldwide and their impacts and results generated four thematic classes: (1) assessment of coverage, accessibility, quantity, and drinking water quality in routine and emergency situations; (2) analysis of physical-chemical and microbiological parameters in public supply networks or alternative water supply solutions; (3) identification of household water contamination, communication, and education with the community; (4) and investigation of water-borne disease outbreaks. Preliminary results were shared with stakeholders to favor knowledge dissemination.

RESUMO

Universal access to clean and safe drinking water is essential for life maintenance since exposure to poor quality water is harmful to health. Drinking water quality is part of public health actions and, together with sanitation, a human right essential for life and a sustainable development goal. Moreover, an independent surveillance system conducted by the Ministry of Health or government agencies is needed for the safety of drinking water quality. We propose a scoping review protocol to identify and map worldwide surveillance actions and initiatives of drinking water quality implemented by government agencies or public health services. This scoping review protocol is based on the Joanna Briggs Institute manual and guided by the PRISMA-ScR. Articles, theses, dissertations, and official documents consulted in the following databases will be included: Medline/PubMed, Scopus, LILACS, Web of Science, Embase, Engineering Village, and gray literature. No date limit or language will be determined. The authors will develop a worksheet for data extraction. Quantitative (simple descriptive statistics) and qualitative data (thematic analysis) will be analyzed. The final scoping review will present the main findings, impacts, challenges, limitations, and possible research gaps related to surveillance of drinking water quality on population health.

RESUMO

We aim to describe the construction and validation of the logical model and the matrix of criteria for assessing care to people with mental disorders in conflict with the law. This is a methodological research, carried out from February to December 2019, following three procedures: 1) theoretical - composed of an evaluability study performed from documentary research and interviews with key informants; 2) empirical - construction of the collection instrument and selection of experts for the validation process of the proposed evaluation instrument; and 3) analytical - performing two Delphi steps. The evaluability study resulted in the elaboration and agreement of the logical model; the analysis and comparison between the reality of the policy and the logical model; and the elaboration of the matrix of criteria. The criteria matrix content adequacy was assessed by 16 experts in the Delphi 1 step and 12 experts in the Delphi 2 step, whose content was validated with a Content Validity Coefficient of 0.93. The logical model and the matrix of criteria proposed in this study are expected to direct health professionals, researchers, workers, and other social actors to assess this clientele's care.

OBJECTIVE: to identify and map the mental health care offered to patients admitted to forensic psychiatry institutes in Brazil. METHOD: a scoping review was guided by the JBI Institute Reviewer's Manual. Searches took place in February 2019, in six databases, using descriptors and synonyms. Analysis was performed using simple descriptive statistics. RESULTS: twelve studies were included, which were predominantly dissertations, published in 2014, carried out in the southeastern region of Brazil. Qualitative researches in the field of psychology and law stood out, with emphasis on the speeches of health professionals, and which did not specify the methodology of data analysis. Final considerations: the care provided to interns of the institutions has a punitive character, is based on excessive medicalization and diverges from the current legislation, which makes social reintegration difficult.

Abstract Despite aging being a global reality, old age has a restriction of individual experiences with their subjectivation, in which improvement becomes a moral requirement. We aim to understand the determinant aspects for the social construction of the older adults based on public policies in Brazil. We performed a document analysis based on the content analysis technique proposed by Laurence Bardin, operationalized by the IRAMUTEQ software. The textual corpus comprised 13 documents that guide policies aimed at the social protection of older adults, posterior to the Federal Constitution of 1988. We observe that the power mechanisms implicit in policies are subordinated to capitalist imperatives and to prescriptive biomedical rationality, focused on strictly biological aspects that denaturalize and homogenize aging in the light of an ideal of uninterrupted youth. It is anchored in the "reprivatization" of old age, which blames the older adults for their living conditions. This productivist ideology establishes the moralization of physical attributes that define and shape the subjectivities of a society refractory to old age itself. We highlight the importance of rethinking aging based on social issues, highlighting singular aspects of the life trajectory of the older person. unfamiliar with the ideology of aging without old age.
