RESUMO

Transition metal-based sulfides exhibit remarkable potential as electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to the unique intrinsic structure and physicochemical characteristics. Nevertheless, currently available sulfide catalysts based on transition metals face a bottleneck in large-scale commercial applications owing to their unsatisfactory stability. Here, the first fabrication of (FeCoNiMn2 )S2 dual-phase medium-entropy metal sulfide (dp-MEMS) is successfully achieved, which demonstrated the expected optimization of stability in the OER process. Benefiting from the "cell wall" -like structure and the synergistic effect in medium-entropy systems, (FeCoNiMn2 )S2 dp-MEMS delivers an exceptionally low overpotential of 169 and 232 mV at current densities of 10 and 100 mA cm-2 , respectively. The enhancement mechanism of catalytic activity and stability is further validated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Additionally, the rechargeable Zn-air batteries integrated with FeCoNiMn2 )S2 dp-MEMS exhibit remarkable performance outperforming the commercial catalyst (Pt/C+RuO2 ). This work demonstrates that the dual-phase medium-entropy metal sulfide-based catalysts have the potential to provide a greater application value for OER and related energy conversion systems.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a crucial complication of long-term chronic diabetes that can lead to myocardial hypertrophy, myocardial fibrosis, and heart failure. There is increasing evidence that DCM is associated with pyroptosis, a form of inflammation-related programmed cell death. Growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11) is a member of the transforming growth factor ß superfamily, which regulates oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell survival to mitigate myocardial hypertrophy, myocardial infarction, and vascular injury. However, the role of GDF11 in regulating pyroptosis in DCM remains to be elucidated. This research aims to investigate the role of GDF11 in regulating pyroptosis in DCM and the related mechanism. METHODS AND RESULTS: Mice were injected with streptozotocin (STZ) to induce a diabetes model. H9c2 cardiomyocytes were cultured in high glucose (50 mM) to establish an in vitro model of diabetes. C57BL/6J mice were preinjected with adeno-associated virus 9 (AAV9) intravenously via the tail vein to specifically overexpress myocardial GDF11. GDF11 attenuated pyroptosis in H9c2 cardiomyocytes after high-glucose treatment. In diabetic mice, GDF11 alleviated cardiomyocyte pyroptosis, reduced myocardial fibrosis, and improved cardiac function. Mechanistically, GDF11 inhibited pyroptosis by preventing inflammasome activation. GDF11 achieved this by specifically binding to apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD (ASC) and preventing the assembly and activation of the inflammasome. Additionally, the expression of GDF11 during pyroptosis was regulated by peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα). CONCLUSION: These findings demonstrate that GDF11 can treat diabetic cardiomyopathy by alleviating pyroptosis and reveal the role of the PPARα-GDF11-ASC pathway in DCM, providing ideas for new strategies for cardioprotection.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: While previous studies have primarily focused on Glucose transporter type 1 (GLUT1) related glucose metabolism signaling, we aim to discover if GLUT1 promotes tumor progression through a non-metabolic pathway. METHODS: The RNA-seq and microarray data were comprehensively analyzed to evaluate the significance of GLUT1 expression in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). The cell proliferation, colony formation, invasion, and migration were used to test GLUT1 's oncogenic function. Co-immunoprecipitation and mass spectrum (MS) were used to uncover potential GLUT1 interacting proteins. RNA-seq, DIA-MS, western blot, and qRT-PCR to probe the change of gene and cell signaling pathways. RESULTS: We found that GLUT1 is highly expressed in LUAD, and higher expression is related to poor patient survival. GLUT1 knockdown caused a decrease in cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, invasion, and induced apoptosis in LUAD cells. Mechanistically, GLUT1 directly interacted with phosphor-epidermal growth factor receptor (p-EGFR) and prevented EGFR protein degradation via ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. The GLUT1 inhibitor WZB117 can increase the sensitivity of LUAD cells to EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) Gefitinib. CONCLUSIONS: GLUT1 expression is higher in LUAD and plays an oncogenic role in lung cancer progression. Combining GLUT1 inhibitors and EGFR-TKIs could be a potential therapeutic option for LUAD treatment.

RESUMO

Recently discovered ferroelectricity in fluorite-structure ZrO2thin film has attracted increasing and intense interest due to its lower crystallization temperature and higher content in nature in comparison to hafnium oxide. Here, the effect of HfO2interfacial layer on the ferroelectric properties of ZrO2thin films is investigated systematically by designing four types of interfacial structures. It is revealed that the ferroelectric orthorhombic phase, remanent polarization, and endurance can be improved in ZrO2thin film by inserting both a top- and bottom-HfO2interfacial layer. A maximal ferroelectric remanent polarization (2Pr) of 53.4µC cm-2and an optimal endurance performance of 3 × 107field cycles under frequency of 100 kHz are achieved in Pt/HfO2/ZrO2/HfO2/Pt capacitors, with ferroelectric stacks being crystallized at 450 °C via post-deposition annealing method. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis confirms that the HfO2bottom-layer plays a very important role in the formation of a higher ratio o-phase, thus enhancing the ferroelectricity. These results suggest that designing appropriate interfaces would help achieve excellent ferroelectric properties in ZrO2films.

RESUMO

Menopause may be an important pathogenic factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). The M1 polarization of microglia and neuroinflammatory responses occur in the early pathogenetic stages of AD. Currently, no effective monitoring markers are available for AD's early pathological manifestations. Radiomics is an automated feature generation method for the extraction of hundreds of quantitative phenotypes (radiomics features) from radiology images. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the magnetic resonance T2-weighted imaging (MR-T2WI) on the temporal lobe region and clinical data of both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. There were three significant differences were identified for select radiomic features in the temporal lobe between premenopausal and postmenopausal women, i.e. the texture feature Original-glcm-Idn (OI) based on the Original image, the filter-based first-order feature Log-firstorder-Mean (LM), and the texture feature Wavelet-LHH-glrlm-Run Length Nonuniformity (WLR). In humans, these three features were significantly correlated with the timing of menopause. In mice, these features were also different between the sham and ovariectomy (OVX) groups and were significantly associated with neuronal damage, microglial M1 polarization, neuroinflammation, and cognitive decline in the OVX groups. In AD patients, OI was significantly associated with cognitive decline, while LM was associated with anxiety and depression. OI and WLR could distinguish AD from healthy controls. In conclusion, radiomics features based on brain MR-T2WI scans have the potential to serve as biomarkers for AD and noninvasive monitoring of pathological progression in the temporal lobe of the brain in women undergoing menopause.

RESUMO

The growth of bacteria and fungi may cause disease inf human or spoilage of food. New antimicrobial substances need to be discovered. Lactoferricin (LFcin) is a group of antimicrobial peptides derived from the N-terminal region of the milk protein lactoferrin (LF). LFcin has antimicrobial ability against a variety of microorganisms, which is significantly better than that of its parent version. Here, we review the sequences, structures, and antimicrobial activities of this family and elucidated the motifs of structural and functional significance, as well as its application in food. Using sequence and structural similarity searches, we identified 43 new LFcins from the mammalian LFs deposited in the protein databases, which are grouped into six families according to their origins (Primates, Rodentia, Artiodactyla, Perissodactyla, Pholidota, and Carnivora). This work expands the LFcin family and will facilitate further characterization of novel peptides with antimicrobial potential. Considering the antimicrobial effect of LFcin on foodborne pathogens, we describe the application of these peptides from the prospective of food preservation.

RESUMO

In this work, the effects of top electrode (TE) and bottom electrode (BE) on the ferroelectric properties of zirconia-based Zr0.75Hf0.25O2(ZHO) thin films annealed by post-deposition annealing (PDA) are investigated in detail. Among W/ZHO/BE capacitors (BE = W, Cr or TiN), W/ZHO/W delivered the highest ferroelectric remanent polarization and the best endurance performance, revealing that the BE with a smaller coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) plays a vital role in enhancing the ferroelectricity of fluorite-structure ZHO. For TE/ZHO/W structures (TE = W, Pt, Ni, TaN or TiN), the stability of TE metals seems to have a larger impact on the performance over their CTE values. This work provides a guideline to modulate and optimize the ferroelectric performance of PDA-treated ZHO-based thin films.

RESUMO

Nisin is a posttranslationally modified antimicrobial peptide that is widely used as a food preservative. It contains five cyclic thioethers of varying sizes. Nisin activity and stability are closely related to its primary and three dimensional structures. It has nine reported natural variants. Nisin A is the most studied nisin as it was the first one purified. Here, we review the sequence feature of nisin A and its natural variants, and their biosynthesis pathway, mode of action and application as a meat preservative. We systematically illustrate the functional domains of the main enzymes (NisB, NisC, and NisP) involved in nisin synthesis. NisB was shown to dehydrate its substrate NisA via a tRNA associated glutamylation mechanism. NisC catalysed the cyclization of the didehydro amino acids with the neighboring cysteine residues. After cyclization, the leader peptide is removed by the protease NisP. According to multiple sequence alignments, we detected five conserved sites Dha5, Pro9, Gly14, Leu16, and Lys22. These residues are probably the structural and functional important ones that can be modified to produce peptides versions with enhanced antimicrobial activity. Through comparing various application methods of nisin in different meats, the antimicrobial effects of nisin used individually or in combination with other natural substances were clarified.

RESUMO

China is the largest producer and consumer of rice, and the classification of filled/unfilled rice grains is of great significance for rice breeding and genetic analysis. The traditional method for filled/unfilled rice grain identification was generally manual, which had the disadvantages of low efficiency, poor repeatability, and low precision. In this study, we have proposed a novel method for filled/unfilled grain classification based on structured light imaging and Improved PointNet++. Firstly, the 3D point cloud data of rice grains were obtained by structured light imaging. And then the specified processing algorithms were developed for the single grain segmentation, and data enhancement with normal vector. Finally, the PointNet++ network was improved by adding an additional Set Abstraction layer and combining the maximum pooling of normal vectors to realize filled/unfilled rice grain point cloud classification. To verify the model performance, the Improved PointNet++ was compared with six machine learning methods, PointNet and PointConv. The results showed that the optimal machine learning model is XGboost, with a classification accuracy of 91.99%, while the classification accuracy of Improved PointNet++ was 98.50% outperforming the PointNet 93.75% and PointConv 92.25%. In conclusion, this study has demonstrated a novel and effective method for filled/unfilled grain recognition.

RESUMO

The reaction of common acyl-metal species (acyl anion) with aldehydes to furnish acyloins has received much less attention and specifically was restricted to using preformed stoichiometric acyl-metal reagents. Moreover, the (catalytic) enantioselective variants remain unexplored, and the asymmetric synthesis of chiral acyloins has met significant challenges in organic synthesis. Here, we uncover the highly enantioselective coupling of acid chlorides with α-bromobenzoates by nickel catalysis for producing enantioenriched protected α-hydroxy ketones (acyloins, >60 examples) with high enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee). The successful execution of this enantioselective coupling protocol enables the formation of a key ketyl radical from α-bromoalkyl benzoate in situ generated from corresponding aldehyde and acyl bromide, which finally is captured by chiral acyl-Ni species catalytically in situ formed from acyl chlorides, thus avoiding the use of preformed acyl-metal reagents. The synthetic utility of this chemistry is demonstrated in the downstream synthetic elaboration toward a diverse set of synthetically valuable chiral building blocks and biologically active compounds.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To study the association of amplitude-integrated electroencephalogram (aEEG) and the quantitative indices biparietal width (BPW) and interhemispheric distance (IHD) of cranial magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI) with short-term neurodevelopment in moderately and late preterm infants. METHODS: A total of 104 moderately and late preterm infants who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit from September 2018 to April 2020 were selected as the subjects for this prospective study. The Naqeeb method and sleep-wake cycling (SWC) were used for aEEG assessment within 72 hours after birth. cMRI was performed at the corrected gestational age of 37 weeks. BPW and IHD were measured at the T2 coronal position. At the corrected age of 6 months, the Developmental Screening Test for Child Under Six (DST) was used to follow up neurodevelopment. According to developmental quotient (DQ), the infants were divided into a normal DST group (78 infants with DQ≥85) and an abnormal DST group (26 infants with DQ<85). Related indices were compared between the two groups. The association between aEEG and cMRI was evaluated. RESULTS: Compared with the normal DST group, the abnormal DST group had significantly lower aEEG normal rate and SWC maturation rate (P<0.05), as well as a significantly larger IHD and a significantly smaller BPW (P<0.05). Immature SWC, aEEG abnormality, and a relatively large IHD were the risk factors for abnormal DST (P<0.05), and a relatively large BPW was a protective factor against abnormal DST (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: For moderately and late preterm infants, aEEG within 72 hours after birth and the quantitative indices BPW and IHD of cMRI at the corrected gestational age of 37 weeks may affect their neurodevelopmental outcome at the corrected age of 6 months.

RESUMO

Medial olivocochlear (MOC) efferent feedback is suggested to protect the ear from acoustic injury and to increase its ability to discriminate sounds against a noisy background. We investigated whether type II spiral ganglion neurons participate in the contralateral suppression of the MOC reflex. The application of ouabain to the round window of the mouse cochlea selectively induced the apoptosis of the type I spiral ganglion neurons, left the peripherin-immunopositive type II spiral ganglion neurons intact, and did not affect outer hairs, as evidenced by the maintenance of the distorted product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs). With the ouabain treatment, the threshold of the auditory brainstem response increased significantly and the amplitude of wave I decreased significantly in the ouabain-treated ears, consistent with the loss of type I neurons. Contralateral suppression was measured as reduction in the amplitude of the 2f1-f2 DPOAEs when noise was presented to the opposite ear. Despite the loss of all the type I spiral ganglion neurons, virtually, the amplitude of the contralateral suppression was not significantly different from the control when the suppressor noise was delivered to the treated cochlea. These results are consistent with the type II spiral ganglion neurons providing the sensory input driving contralateral suppression of the MOC reflex.

RESUMO

Objective: This study aimed to describe the experience of a single institution in China in treating adenoid cystic carcinoma of the nasopharynx. Methods: We reviewed the previous literature and conducted a retrospective analysis of 12 patients who diagnosed with nasopharyngeal adenoid cystic carcinoma (NACC) in clinical data, treatment, and follow-up data during 2019 to 2021. Results: Patients ranged in age from 32 to 68 years (mean 40.7 years, median 48.5 years), with a male to female ratio of 5:7. Most of our patients have T4a and T4b diseases (50% and 25%, respectively). A quarter of patients develop distant metastases. Among the 12 patients, 7 of them have positive margins under the microscope (7/12, 58.3%). The chief clinical manifestations were epistaxis, facial swelling, facial pain, headache ear stuffy, and hearing loss. If the tumors involved with cavernous sinus, brain stem infiltrated, and internal carotid artery circumvented, patients will undertake routine enhanced magnetic resonance imaging with Magnetic Resonance Angiography/Magnetic Resonance Venogram (MRA/MRV) to clearly show the lesion region. All patients underwent endoscopic endonasal approach. Fifty percent of patients received radiotherapy and 25% of patients received chemotherapy. None of the patients was lost and the follow-up time ranged from 16 to 45 months. The mean and median follow-up were 2.08 and 1.58 years. Two patients were dead of distant metastasis within 18 and 20 months after the surgery, and another patient with recurrent NACC died of hemorrhage. Conclusion: NACC is a rare malignant tumor that occurs in the nasopharynx, which can grow along the nerve, destroy the bone of the skull base, and metastasize to other organs. Up to now, there is no standard treatment. Our results show that endoscopic sinus surgery is a better choice for advanced or recurrent NACC.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of acute ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on tennis skill and physical exercise performance, as well as to explore whether 7-day repeated IPC (RIPC) accelerated fatigue recovery after a simulated tennis match. METHODS: Twenty-nine male tennis-specific current students were randomly allocated into 1 of 2 groups: SHAM (n = 14, 3 × 5 min at 20 mm Hg) and IPC (n = 15, 3 × 5 min at 220 mm Hg). Participants in both groups engaged in acute IPC and RIPC interventions. After the first acute IPC intervention, assessments were conducted to evaluate tennis-specific skills and overall physical exercise capacity. Following completion of chronic RIPC interventions, all participants competed in a simulated tennis match specifically designed to induce fatigue. To evaluate recovery from this induced fatigue, physical exercise capacity tests were conducted at 24 and 48 hours postmatch, allowing for an assessment of the participants' recovery capabilities over time. RESULTS: After the first acute intervention, notable differences were observed between the IPC and SHAM groups in their performance on the repeated-sprint ability test. Specifically, the total times recorded were significantly shorter in the IPC group compared with the SHAM group (IPC: 109.05 [2.70] vs SHAM: 114.57 [7.45] s, P = .012), and this trend was also reflected in their best times (IPC: 4.20 [0.18] s vs SHAM: 4.39 [0.30] s, P = .042), indicating an immediate benefit of the IPC intervention on sprint performance. After a 7-day RIPC intervention, significant changes were noted in the SHAM group's performance metrics postmatch. There was an increase (P < .001) in fatigue index from 22% (8%) to 30% (9%) during repeated-sprint ability test and a decrease in serve speed from 120.2 (17.5) to 106.7 (13.0) km/h (P = .002) and knee peek torque from 196.0 (49.0) to 162.7 (39) N (extension, 60°/s, P < .001) in the SHAM group 24 hours postmatch, relative to the IPC group. Moreover, compared with the SHAM group, the IPC group showed a lower rate of perceived exertion during the match (P < .001) and a decrease in visual analog scale score (P = .026) 24 hours postmatch, suggesting enhanced recovery and reduced perception of pain relative to the SHAM group. CONCLUSION: IPC could serve as a strategy to generate an ergogenic effect and recovery during training and competition.

RESUMO

Introduction: Black tea, a beverage consumed worldwide, possesses favorable effects on gastrointestinal tract, including nourishing stomach and promoting digestion. Nevertheless, its specific effects on intestinal homeostasis remains inconclusive. Methods: We applied black tea to mice prior to inducing colitis with DSS and then monitored their body weight and disease activity index (DAI) daily. When sacrificed, we measured intestinal permeability and conducted analyses of mucin and tight junction proteins. We detected inflammatory cytokines, immune cells, and related inflammatory signaling pathways. In addition, the gut microbiota was analyzed through 16S rRNA sequencing, and the concentrations of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were also measured. Results: The results showed that black tea-treated group significantly rescued the DSS-disrupted intestinal structure. It reduced the relative abundance of the pathogenic bacterium Turicibacter, while increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria norank_f_Muribaculaceae and restored the contents of SCFAs such as acetate, propionate, and butyrate. It also protected the intestinal barrier by reducing the levels of immune response-related factors (e.g., TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1ß) and increasing the expression of tight junction proteins (TJs) (e.g., ZO-1, occludin). Furthermore, black tea exhibited the capacity to suppress the expression of MMP-9 and ICAM-1, as well as to inhibit the activation of NF-κB signaling pathway. Discussion: Our findings provide a theoretical framework that elucidates the mechanisms by which black tea preserves intestinal homeostasis, highlighting its potential as a preventive strategy against intestinal disruptions. This study contributes to the understanding of the dietary effects of black tea on gastrointestinal health.

RESUMO

Agricultural soils contaminated with heavy metals poison crops and disturb the normal functioning of rhizosphere microbial communities. Different crops and rhizosphere microbial communities exhibit different heavy metal resistance mechanisms. Here, indoor pot studies were used to assess the mechanisms of grain and soil rhizosphere microbial communities on chromium (Cr) stress. Millet grain variety 'Jingu 21' (Setaria italica) and soil samples were collected prior to control (CK), 6 hours after (Cr_6h), and 6 days following (Cr_6d) Cr stress. Transcriptomic analysis, high-throughput sequencing and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) were used for sample determination and data analysis. Cr stress inhibited the expression of genes related to cell division, and photosynthesis in grain plants while stimulating the expression of genes related to DNA replication and repair, in addition to plant defense systems resist Cr stress. In response to chromium stress, rhizosphere soil bacterial and fungal community compositions and diversity changed significantly (p < 0.05). Both bacterial and fungal co-occurrence networks primarily comprised positively correlated edges that would serve to increase community stability. However, bacterial community networks were larger than fungal community networks and were more tightly connected and less modular than fungal networks. The abundances of C/N functional genes exhibited increasing trends with increased Cr exposure. Overall, these results suggest that Cr stress primarily prevented cereal seedlings from completing photosynthesis, cell division, and proliferation while simultaneously triggering plant defense mechanisms to resist the toxic effects of Cr. Soil bacterial and fungal populations exhibited diverse response traits, community-assembly mechanisms, and increased expression of functional genes related to carbon and nitrogen cycling, all of which are likely related to microbial survival during Cr stress. This study provides new insights into resistance mechanisms, microbial community structures, and mechanisms of C/N functional genes responses in cereal plants to heavy metal contaminated agricultural soils. Portions of this text were previously published as part of a preprint (https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-2891904/v1).

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to diminish radiation exposure in interventional radiology (IR) imaging while maintaining image quality. This was achieved by decreasing the acquisition frame rate and employing a deep neural network to interpolate the reduced frames. METHODS: This retrospective study involved the analysis of 1634 IR sequences from 167 pediatric patients (March 2014 to January 2022). The dataset underwent a random split into training and validation subsets (at a 9:1 ratio) for model training and evaluation. Our approach proficiently synthesized absent frames in simulated low-frame-rate sequences by excluding intermediate frames from the validation subset. Accuracy assessments encompassed both objective experiments and subjective evaluations conducted by nine radiologists. RESULTS: The deep learning model adeptly interpolated the eliminated frames within IR sequences, demonstrating encouraging peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index (SSIM) results. The average PSNR values for angiographic, subtraction, and fluoroscopic modes were 44.94 dB, 34.84 dB, and 33.82 dB, respectively, while the corresponding SSIM values were 0.9840, 0.9194, and 0.7752. Subjective experiments conducted with experienced interventional radiologists revealed minimal discernible differences between interpolated and authentic sequences. CONCLUSION: Our method, which interpolates low-frame-rate IR sequences, has shown the capability to produce high-quality IR images. Additionally, the model exhibits potential for reducing the frame rate during IR image acquisition, consequently mitigating radiation exposure. CRITICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: This study presents a critical advancement in clinical radiology by demonstrating the effectiveness of a deep neural network in reducing radiation exposure during pediatric interventional radiology while maintaining image quality, offering a potential solution to enhance patient safety. KEY POINTS: • Reducing radiation: cutting IR image to reduce radiation. • Accurate frame interpolation: our model effectively interpolates missing frames. • High visual quality in terms of PSNR and SSIM, making IR procedures safer without sacrificing quality.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) is closely related to the pathogenesis of osteoclasts, with the Cathepsin K (CTSK) protein playing a crucial role. Our study aimed to screen small molecule compounds targeting CTSK and evaluate their impact on PMOP. Through molecular docking, we identified NVP-BHG712 as significantly inhibiting osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption. NVP-BHG712 also effectively suppressed CTSK activity and exhibited strong binding affinity to CTSK protein. Furthermore, NVP-BHG712 regulated the expression of inflammatory factors and modulated the balance between M1 and M2 macrophage polarization. In the mouse model of ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis, NVP-BHG712 rescued bone loss by inhibiting excessive osteoclast activation. These findings suggest that NVP-BHG712 may be a promising treatment for pathological osteoporosis by alleviating osteoclast function.

RESUMO

The traditional process of producing Zhenjiang aromatic vinegar faces challenges such as high water usage, wastewater generation, raw material losses, and limitations in mechanization and workshop conditions. This study introduces and evaluates a novel dry gelatinization process, focusing on fermentation efficiency and the vinegar flavor profile. The new process shows a 39.1% increase in alcohol conversion efficiency and a 14% higher yield than the traditional process. Vinegar produced through the dry gelatinization process has a stronger umami taste and a higher lactic acid concentration. Both processes detected 33 volatile substances, with the dry gelatinization process showing a notably higher concentration of 2-methylbutanal, which imparts a distinct fruity and chocolate aroma. These findings suggest that the dry gelatinization process outperforms the traditional process in several aspects.

RESUMO

Asthma, a chronic airway inflammatory disease, has a complicated pathogenesis and limited therapeutic treatment. Evidence shows that the intestinal microbiota exhibits crucial functional interaction with asthma syndrome. Liubao tea (LBT), a type of postfermented tea in China, positively modulates gut microbiota. However, the potential benefits of LBT extract (LBTE) for allergic asthma are still not understood. Herein, the anti-inflammatory effects of LBTE and its modulation of the gut microbiota of asthmatic mice induced by ovalbumin were explored. The results demonstrate that LBTE significantly inhibited airway hyper-responsiveness and restrained the proliferation of proinflammatory cytokines and inflammatory cells associated with allergic asthma. Additionally, LBTE suppressed inflammatory infiltration, mucus secretion, and excessive goblet cell production by downregulating the gene expression of inflammatory indicators. Interestingly, fecal microbiota transplantation results further implied that the modulation of LBTE on gut microbiota played an essential role in alleviating airway inflammatory symptoms of allergic asthma.
