RESUMO

Splenic cysts are rare benign lesions of the spleen, often asymptomatic and incidentally discovered during imaging studies. While many splenic cysts remain asymptomatic and do not require intervention, surgical management becomes essential in cases of symptomatic cysts, large cysts, or when malignancy cannot be ruled out. Laparoscopic surgery has emerged as a minimally invasive and effective approach for treating splenic cysts, offering advantages such as shorter hospital stays, reduced postoperative pain, and faster recovery. In this case report, we describe our experience with laparoscopic surgery for a symptomatic splenic cyst in a young patient.

RESUMO

Urachal cancer is very rare, accounting for only 0.5-2% of bladder-associated malignancies and 0.01% of all cancers in adults. It has an insidious appearance, an aggressive behavior and a poor prognosis. The most common symptoms are hematuria and the presence of a palpable hypogastric mass. The scarcity of cases and the low number of studies carried out explains the lack of an evidence-based management strategy, but it seems that surgical treatment (open, laparoscopy or robot-assisted) represents the gold standard, while neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy or radiotherapy has a limited impact on overall survival. Since mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of urachal origin is a very uncommon pathological condition the differential diagnosis may be difficult and pathological investigations have to elucidate this disorder. It is worth mentioning the psychological impact on the patient in addition to the medical aspects. A rare condition is associated with heightened risk for mental health and psychosocial difficulties and this must be taken into account in the subsequent follow-up of the patient. In order to increase awareness of this rare entity we report a case of a 40-year-old male with a urachal adenocarcinoma who was treated surgically, with a favorable outcome. We also perform a brief literature review about this type of tumor.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: Assessment of quality of life requires a multidimensional measurement of health and wellness, as reported by the patient. The central objective of this research was to capture the phenomenon of impact on cancer diagnosis; disease and treatment have on physical and emotional status of patients with cervical cancer. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study was realized on a group of 70 patients diagnosed with this disease, aged 25-55 years and from different intellectual categories both in rural and urban. We used an experimental design of type 2 (early disease stage/advanced) x 5 (surgical therapeutic method / surgery with radiotherapy/surgery with chemotherapy/surgery with radiotherapy and chemotherapy/palliative) x 2 (low therapeutic compliance/high) x 2 (low depression/high). As data collection instruments were used histopathological examinations and psychological tests (to measure quality of life SF-36 test and test sensory and affective pain McGill and independent variables Beck Depression Scale and IPQ-R), and to verify hypotheses T test for independent samples and comparing Univariate ANOVA. RESULTS: The results showed the importance of emotional state on the development of cancer disease and its quality of life.

RESUMO

In defining new potential prognostic factors in cervical cancer, p53 protein expression, Ki67 or issues related to Bcl-2 oncogene involved in cellular apoptosis process, have been the subject of numerous publications. This paper aims to study with immunohistochemical methods, the way in which these factors are involved in influencing the prognosis of patients with cervical cancer. The study was conducted on 42 pieces operators from the same number of patients diagnosed with this disease, aged between 25-65 years and in different clinical stages. We used an experimental design type 2 (histopathological type squamous cell/adenocarcinoma) x 3 (degree of differentiation weak/ moderate/ well differentiated) x 4 (stage I/ II/ III /IV disease). Diagnosis was based on clinical examination and confirmed by histopathology, and hypothesis testing we used Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA test of ranks test, Mann-Whitney U test, chi2 test, Spearman's correlation test and crosstabs ranking difference. The results on the study group showed the prognostic value of both the proliferation marker Ki67 and p53 oncogene, the presence of tandem Ki67/p53 in cervical carcinoma meaning more so a poor prognosis, Bcl-2 overexpression was detected in none of the 42 cases investigated.
