RESUMO

The fabrication of molecular crystalline materials with fast, multistimuli-responsive behavior and the construction of the corresponding structure-activity relationship are of extraordinary significance for the development of smart materials. In this context, three multistimuli-responsive functional metal-organic polyhedra (MOP), {[Dy2(bcbp)3(NO3)1.5(H2O)7]·Cl4.2·(NO3)0.3·H2O}n (1), {[Dy2(bcbp)4(H2O)8]Cl6}n (2), and {[Eu2(bcbp)4(H2O)10]Cl6·H2O}n (3; bcbp = 1,1'-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4'-bipyridinium), were successfully prepared and characterized. All of the compounds exhibit rapid and reversible photochromic and electrochromic dual-responsive behaviors. Furthermore, benefiting from the well-defined crystal structure and different responsive behaviors, the photoinduced electron transfer (PIET) process and structure-activity relationship were explored. In addition, considering the excellent photochromic performance, function filter paper and smart organic glass were successfully prepared and used for ink-free printing and UV light detection.

The precise control of the regioselectivity in the transition metal-catalyzed migratory hydrofunctionalization of alkenes remains a big challenge. With a transient ketimine directing group, the nickel-catalyzed migratory ß-selective hydroarylation and hydroalkenylation of alkenyl ketones has been realized with aryl boronic acids using alkyl halide as the mild hydride source for the first time. The key to this success is the use of a diphosphine ligand, which is capable of the generation of a Ni(II)-H species in the presence of alkyl bromide, and enabling the efficient migratory insertion of alkene into Ni(II)-H species and the sequent rapid chain walking process. The present approach diminishes organosilanes reductant, tolerates a wide array of complex functionalities with excellent regioselective control. Moreover, this catalytic system could also be applied to the migratory hydroarylation of alkenyl azahetereoarenes, thus providing a general approach for the preparation of 1,2-aryl heteroaryl motifs with wide potential applications in pharmaceutical discovery.

Underwater explosions (UNDEX) generate shock waves that interact with the air-water interface and structures, leading to the occurrence of rarefaction waves and inducing cavitation phenomena. In deep-water explosions, complex coupling relationships exist between shock wave propagation, bubble motion, and cavitation evolution. The shock wave initiates the formation of cavitation, and their growth and collapse are influenced by the pressure field. The collapsing bubbles generate additional shock waves and fluid motion, affecting subsequent shock wave propagation and bubble behavior. This intricate interaction significantly impacts the hydrodynamic characteristics of deep-water explosions, including pressure distribution, density, and phase changes in the surrounding fluid. In this paper, we utilize a two-fluid phase transition model to capture the evolution of cavitation in deep-water explosions. Our numerical results demonstrate that the introduction of a two-phase vapor-liquid phase change model is necessary to accurately capture scenarios involving prominent evaporation or condensation phenomena. Furthermore, we find that the cavitation produced by the same charge under different explosion depths exhibits significant differences, as does the peak value of cavitation collapse pressure. Similarly, the cavitation produced by different charge quantities under the same explosion depth varies, and the relationship between cavitation volume and charge quantity is not a simple linear increase. The research methods and results presented in this paper provide an important reference for studying the dynamic characteristics of deep-water explosions.

RESUMO

A practical electrochemically driven method for fluorosulfonylation of both aryl and alkyl thianthrenium salts has been disclosed. The strategy does not need external redox reagents or metal catalysts. In combination with C-H thianthrenation of aromatics, this method provides a new tool for the site-selective fluorosulfonylation of drugs.

Although aryl triflates are essential building blocks in organic synthesis, the applications as aryl radical precursors are limited. Herein, we report an organomediated electrochemical strategy for the generation of aryl radicals from aryl triflates, providing a useful method for the synthesis of aryl sulfonyl fluorides from feedstock phenol derivatives under very mild conditions. Mechanistic studies indicate that key to success is to use catalytic amounts of 9, 10-dicyanoanthracene as an organic mediator, enabling to selectively active aryl triflates to form aryl radicals via orbital-symmetry-matching electron transfer, realizing the anticipated C-O bond cleavage by overcoming the competitive S-O bond cleavage. The transition-metal-catalyst-free protocol shows good functional group tolerance, and may overcome the shortages of known methods for aryl sulfonyl fluoride synthesis. Furthermore, this method has been used for the modification and formal synthesis of bioactive molecules or tetraphenylethylene (TPE) derivative with improved quantum yield of fluorescence.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the cardioprotective effects of total saponin from Panax japonicus pretreating on acute myocardial ischemia injury induced by ligating coronary artery left anterior descending branch (LAD) in rats. METHODS: Rats were divided into sham group, model group and total saponin group. The treatment group was given total saponin of Panax japonicus. After pretreating for 7 days, the rats' acute myocardial ischemia model was induced by LAD. The electrocardiogram, hemodynamics, infarct size and histomorphology were assessed 12 h after LAD, the serum levels of phosphokinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were also measured. RESULTS: Compared with the model group, total saponin from Panax japonicus significantly improved heart function, heart histomorphology, opposed ECG T wave decreased and decreased infarct size; Remarkably decreased the contents of LDH, CK and MDA, increased the activity of SOD, CAT. CONCLUSION: Total saponin from Panax japonicus has cardioprotective effects on acute myocardial ischemic injury and the mechanism may be related to antioxidation.

Objective: This study aimed to review the characteristics of the second mesiobuccal canal (MB2) in the maxillary first and second permanent molars of 500 patients to analyze the incidence of MB2 and its connection with gender, age, tooth position, and mesiobuccal (MB) root length. The study also aimed to investigate the distribution of the root canal orifice on the pulp chamber floor to obtain an imaging reference for clinical practices related to maxillary molars in Fujian, China. Methods: In accordance with the enrollment criteria, cone-beam computed tomography images of the maxillofacial area were collected from 500 patients, including 1,000 maxillary first molars and 1,000 maxillary second molars. The patients were grouped according to gender and tooth position. The incidence of MB2 was observed, and the MB root length and distribution angle of the mesiobuccal-palatal-distobuccal root canal orifices were measured for statistical analysis. Results: The overall incidence of MB2 in maxillary first and second molars was 51.1% and 32.9%, respectively. The incidence of MB2 in maxillary molars was 50% in male patients and 35.45% in female patients, with a significant difference (p < 0.05). The incidence of MB2 in maxillary molars was significantly higher in subjects aged below 50 (especially in male patients) than those aged 50 and above. The MB root length of maxillary first and second molars with MB2 was longer than that without MB2, and the difference was statistically significant. An association was identified between the incidences of MB2 in contralateral molars of the same type and in ipsilateral adjacent molars. When MB2 occurred in the MB root of maxillary molars, the root canals were mostly classified as type IV, followed by type II. The angle formed by the MB-P-DB orifices on the pulp chamber floor in the maxillary first and second molars was (25.23 ± 5.20) and (20.17 ± 10.88)°respectively. Conclusion: The incidence of MB2 in maxillary molars is high in Fujian, China. The occurrence of MB2 is affected by gender, age, and length of MB root, and it occurs symmetrically in adjacent molars and in contralateral molars of the same type. In addition, the distribution law of the main root canal orifice at the pulp chamber floor is conducive to locating MB2, thereby guiding clinical operations.

A practical method for regioselective hydroarylation of unactivated γ- or δ-vinyl alkylamines has been reported, enabling facile preparation of highly value-added ε- or ζ-aryl alkylamines. The protocol employs nickel catalysis, shows high functional group tolerance and can be used for modifying bio-related molecules.

RESUMO

A practical method for 1,2-diborylation of non-activated monosubstituted alkenes via nickel catalysis has been developed. The protocol features high functional group tolerance and can be applied for the formal synthesis of drugs and modification of natural product derivatives. Preliminary mechanistic studies imply the involvement of a Ni(II) catalytic cycle.

As an indicator of health risk, the deposition of microparticles in terminal pulmonary acini is of great significance in the medical field. To control particulate pollution and optimize aerosol delivery, it is necessary to perform an in-depth study of the microparticle deposition in terminal pulmonary acini; however, little research has been done on this topic. This paper proposes a respiratory movement model of terminal pulmonary acini using an immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method. In addition, we explored the effect of gravity direction, respiratory rate, microparticle diameter, and other parameters on the microparticles deposition process and distribution, under the airflow in the acinar wall. It was found that the deposition of microparticles is sensitive to gravity direction, and the growth of the respiratory rate increases the rate of microparticle migration and deposition. It was observed that the gravity effect is enhanced by increasing the diameter of microparticles, causing a high deposition and dispersion rate. The study reveals the dynamic correlation between the respiration process and the movement of microparticles, which is of reference value to figure out the pathogenicity mechanism of inhalable particles and to optimize the aerosol delivery.

OBJECTIVE: This research aimed to study the effects of Artemisia argyi flavonoids (AAF) supplemented in diets on the growth performance and immune function of broiler chickens challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). METHODS: A total of one hundred and ninety-two 1-d-old broiler chicks were assigned into 4 treatment groups, which were, respectively, fed a basal diet (control), fed a diet with 750 mg/kg AAF, fed a basal diet, and challenged with LPS, fed a diet with 750 mg/kg AAF, and challenged with LPS. Each treatment had six pens with 8 chicks per pen. On days 14, 16, 18, 20 (stress phase I) and 28, 30, 32, 34 (stress phase II), broilers were injected with LPS (500 µg/kg body weight) or an equivalent amount of saline. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that dietary AAF significantly improved the body weight (d 21) and alleviated the decrease of average daily gain in broilers challenged with LPS on d 21 and d 35 (p<0.05). Dietary AAF increased bursa fabricius index, and dramatically attenuated the elevation of spleen index caused by LPS on d 35 (p<0.05). Furthermore, serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) concentration decreased with AAF supplementation on d 21 (p<0.05). Diet treatment and LPS challenge exhibited a significant interaction for the concentration of IL-1ß (d 21) and IL-6 (d 35) in serum (p<0.05). Additionally, AAF supplementation mitigated the increase of IL-1ß, IL-6 in liver and spleen induced by LPS on d 21 and 35 (p<0.05). This study also showed that AAF supplementation significantly reduced the expression of IL-1ß (d 21) and nuclear transcription factor kappa-B p65 (d 21 and 35) in liver (p<0.05), and dietary AAF and LPS treatment exhibited significant interaction for the gene expression of IL-6 (d 21), toll like receptor 4 (d 35) and myeloid differentiation factor 88 (d 35) in spleen (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, AAF could be used as a potential natural immunomodulator to improve growth performance and alleviate immune stress in broilers challenged with LPS.

To study the mass transport of mucociliary clearance of the human upper respiratory tract, a two-dimensional mass transport model based on the ciliated movement was established by using the immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method (IB-LBM). In this model, different characteristics of the mucus layer (ML) and the periciliary liquid (PCL) were taken into account. A virtual elastic membrane was introduced to divide the two layers dynamically. All moving boundaries that were involved in the present simulation were modeled with the immersed boundary. The Newtonian fluid was used to model the flow in PCL, and the viscoelastic fluid based on the Oldroyd-B model was used for the flow in ML; the two types of flow were both solved by the LBM framework. Based on the model, the ML thickness, the cilia density, and the phase difference of adjacent cilia were regulated, respectively, to study the transport velocity of the ML. In addition, the motion law of solid particles in PCL was also studied. According to the results, four primary conclusions were drawn. (1) At a given beating pattern, the increase of the ML thickness will decrease its transport velocity. (2) Increasing the cilia density can promote the mean transport velocity of the ML. (3) By raising the phase difference of adjacent cilia to a certain scope, the transport of ML can be accelerated. (4) In PCL, particles initially located on the upper part of the cilia tend to migrate upward and then get close to the ML. The above study can provide some reasonable explanations for the mechanism of the mucociliary clearance system, which is also helpful to the further understanding of the mass transport principle of the human upper respiratory tract.

As a typical microfluidic cell sorting technique, the size-dependent cell sorting has attracted much interest in recent years. In this paper, a size-dependent cell sorting scheme is presented based on a controllable asymmetric pinched flow by employing an immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method (IB-LBM). The geometry of channels consists of 2 upstream branches, 1 transitional channel, and 4 downstream branches (D-branches). Simulations are conducted by varying inlet flow ratio, the cell size, and the ratio of flux of outlet 4 to the total flux. It is found that, after being randomly released in one upstream branch, the cells are aligned in a line close to one sidewall of the transitional channel due to the hydrodynamic forces of the asymmetric pinched flow. Cells with different sizes can be fed into different downstream D-branches just by regulating the flux of one D-branch. A principle governing D-branch choice of a cell is obtained, with which a series of numerical cases are performed to sort the cell mixture involving two, three, or four classes of diameters. Results show that, for each case, an adaptive regulating flux can be determined to sort the cell mixture effectively.

A size-based blood cell sorting model with a micro-fence structure is proposed in the frame of immersed boundary and lattice Boltzmann method (IB-LBM). The fluid dynamics is obtained by solving the discrete lattice Boltzmann equation, and the cells motion and deformation are handled by the immersed boundary method. A micro-fence consists of two parallel slope post rows which are adopted to separate red blood cells (RBCs) from white blood cells (WBCs), in which the cells to be separated are transported one after another by the flow into the passageway between the two post rows. Effected by the cross flow, RBCs are schemed to get through the pores of the nether post row since they are smaller and more deformable compared with WBCs. WBCs are required to move along the nether post row till they get out the micro-fence. Simulation results indicate that for a fix width of pores, the slope angle of the post row plays an important role in cell sorting. The cells mixture can not be separated properly in a small slope angle, while obvious blockages by WBCs will take place to disturb the continuous cell sorting in a big slope angle. As an optimal result, an adaptive slope angle is found to sort RBCs form WBCs correctly and continuously.
