RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Nutrition and exercise are important interventions for sarcopenia. There were few studies on oral oligopeptide nutrition preparations combined with exercise to intervene in the older people with sarcopenia. The aim of this study was to verify the effectiveness of oligopeptide nutrition preparation combined with exercise intervention on the older people with sarcopenia in community. METHODS: A total of 219 subjects aged 65 years or older with sarcopenia were randomly divided into 4 groups. The nutrition group (n = 58) was given individualized nutrition education and oral oligopeptide nutrition preparation. The exercise group (n = 50) received exercise intervention. The combined group (n = 52) received both oral nutrition preparation and exercise interventions. The control group (n = 59) only received individualized nutrition education. The nutrition preparation can provide energy 185kcal and protein 24.2g per day. The exercise intervention including warm-up exercise, resistance exercise and aerobic exercise, the training time was 60min for 5 times every week. The intervention lasted for 16 weeks. Hand grip strength, gait speed, body composition and hematology parameters were measured before and after intervention. RESULTS: A total of 159 subjects completed the study. Compared with baseline, the left grip strength and 6-m walking speed of the subjects in nutrition group increased significantly after the intervention, and the grip strength of both hands in exercise group and combined group increased significantly. The body weight of the subjects in nutrition group, exercise group and combined group increased significantly after intervention, but no increase in soft lean mass (SLM) and skeletal muscle mass (SMM) was observed in any of the four groups. The fat-free mass (FFM) of the legs of the control group, exercise group and nutrition group decreased after intervention, and only the FFM of the legs of the combined group maintained the level before the intervention. CONCLUSION: Both oral peptide nutrition and exercise interventions can improve the muscle strength or function of the older people with sarcopenia. Objective@#To investigate the relationship between total homocysteine (tHcy) levels and sarcopenia among the elderly, so as to provide insights into the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia.@*Methods@#The elderly aged 65 years and older who participated in the physical examination of Shibantan Township Health Center in Xindu District, Chengdu City from April to June 2021 was selected as the study subjects. The elderly with sarcopenia (diagnosed according to the diagnostic criteria of the Asian Sarcopenia Working Group in 2019) and non-sarcopenia were matched 1︰1 by gender and age (±2 years). Demographic information, skeletal muscle mass, skeletal muscle strength and tHcy were collected through questionnaire surveys, physical examination and laboratory testing. Multivariable conditional logistic regression model was used to explore the relationship between tHcy and sarcopenia.@*Results@#A total of 320 individuals, including 160 sarcopenia patients and 160 non-sarcopenia individuals, were investigated. There were 138 males (43.13%) and 182 females (56.87%), with a median age of 71.00 (interquartile range, 6.00) years. There were 57 drinkers (17.81%), 78 smokers (24.37%), 173 cases of hypertension (54.06%) and 124 cases of hyperhomocysteinemia (38.80%). Multivariable conditional logistic regression analysis showed that elevated tHcy was associated with an increased risk of sarcopenia (OR=1.107, 95%CI: 1.024-1.197), after adjusting for smoking, alcohol consumption, hypertension, waist circumference, neck circumference, body mass index, platelet count and high density lipoprotein cholesterol.@*Conclusion@#Elevated tHcy is associated with sarcopenia, and intervention should be carried out for the elderly with higher tHcy.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the purification process of total flavones and total tannins from Apocynum venetum leaves with macroreticular resin. METHOD: The static capacity absorption, dynamic absorption ratio and dynamic elution ratio of different types of macroreticular resins were studied and compared in order to find the best one among the eight macroreticular resins, and the technical process of the type of HPD-400 type macroreticular resin was studied in detail. RESULT: The type of HPD-400 type macroreticular resin showed the best comprehensive absorption property with the following technological conditions: the current velocity was 1 BV x h(-1), the volume of distilled water was 2 BV, the eluting reagent was 60% ethanol, and the volume of 60% ethanol was 3 BV. CONCLUSION: The purity of total flavones and total tannins in the product is up to 80% after purified with HPD-400 macroreticular resin. Therefore, this purification process is feasible.

OBJECTIVE: To establish a sensitive and specific HPLC fingerprint for the quality controlling of total flavonoids of Folium Apocyni Veneti. METHOD: HPlC analysis was performed on a Kromasil C18 column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) with the mixture of solvent A [acetonitrile-phosphoric acid (95:5)] and solvent B (0.05% phosphoric acid) in gradient mode at a flow rate of 1.0 mL x min(-1). The detection wavelength was set at 360 nm. The column temperature was set at 25 degrees C and the injection volume was 20 microL. RESULT: The chromatographic fingerprint of total flavonoids was established which showed 17 characteristic peaks from 7 patches of total flavonoids products. The similarity from different patches was 0.95-1.00 analyzed by the software of 'Computer-aided Similarity Evaluation' and showed high similitude in peak numbers and the retention time. Moreover, comparison of the HPLC profiles of the total flavonoids with the corresponding Folium Apocyni Veneti leaves indicated that they were closely related to each other. CONCLUSION: The chromatographic fingerprint of the total flavonoids with high specificity and can be used to control its quality and assure the homogenicity for each patch of the total flavonoids.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the chemical constituents of flavonoids from Apocynum venetum L. METHODS: The compounds from water extracts were isolated by HPD-100 MCI-gel, polyamide, silica and Sephadex LH-20. Their structrues were characterized by chemical methods and spectroscopic methods. RESULTS: The five compounds were identified to be trifolin (I), hyperroside (III), hyperin (V), isoquercetin-6'-o-acetate (VII) and isoquercetin (VIII). CONCLUSION: Compound I and compound VII are isolated from Apocynum venetum L. for the first time.
