RESUMO

Whether there are links between geomagnetic field and Earth's orbital parameters remains unclear. Synchronous reconstructions of parallel long-term quantitative geomagnetic field and climate change records are rare. Here, we present 10Be-derived changes of both geomagnetic field and Asian monsoon (AM) rainfall over the last 870 kyr from the Xifeng loess-paleosol sequence on the central Chinese Loess Plateau. The 10BeGM flux (a proxy for geomagnetic field-induced 10Be production rate) reveals 13 consecutive geomagnetic excursions in the Brunhes chron, which are synchronized with the global records, providing key time markers for Chinese loess-paleosol sequences. The 10Be-derived rainfall exhibits distinct ~100 kyr glacial-interglacial cycles, and superimposed precessional (~23 kyr) cycles that match with those in Chinese speleothem δ18O record. We find that changes in the geomagnetic field and AM rainfall share a common ~100 kyr cyclicity, implying a likely eccentricity modulation of both the geomagnetic field and climate.

RESUMO

Oxaliplatin-induced peripheral nerve pain (OIPNP) is a common chemotherapy-related complication, but the mechanism is complex. Mitochondria are vital for cellular homeostasis and regulating oxidative stress. Parkin-mediated mitophagy is a cellular process that removes damaged mitochondria, exhibiting a protective effect in various diseases; however, its role in OIPNP remains unclear. In this study, we found that Parkin-mediated mitophagy was decreased, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) was upregulated in OIPNP rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) in vivo and in PC12 cells stimulated with oxaliplatin (OXA) in vitro. Overexpression of Parkin indicated that OXA might cause mitochondrial and cell damage by inhibiting mitophagy. We also showed that salidroside (SAL) upregulated Parkin-mediated mitophagy to eliminate damaged mitochondria and promote PC12 cell survival. Knockdown of Parkin indicated that mitophagy is crucial for apoptosis and mitochondrial homeostasis in PC12 cells. In vivo study also demonstrated that SAL enhances Parkin-mediated mitophagy in the DRG and alleviates peripheral nerve injury and pain. These results suggest that Parkin-mediated mitophagy is involved in the pathogenesis of OIPNP and may be a potential therapeutic target for OIPNP.NEW & NOTEWORTHY This article discusses the effects and mechanisms of Parkin-mediated mitophagy in oxaliplatin-induced peripheral nerve pain (OIPNP) from both in vivo and in vitro. We believe that our study makes a significant contribution to the literature because OIPNP has always been the focus of clinical medicine, and mitochondrial quality regulation mechanisms especially Parkin-mediated mitophagy, have been deeply studied in recent years. We use a variety of molecular biological techniques and animal experiments to support our argument.

RESUMO

The lack of acid-proof high-potential cathode largely limits the development and competitiveness of proton batteries. Herein, the authors systematically investigated six dihydroxynaphthalenes (DHNs) and found that 2,6-DHN delivered the best cathode performance in proton battery with the highest redox potential (0.84 V, vs SHE) and a specific capacity of 91.6 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1 . In situ solid-state electropolymerization of DHNs is responsible for the voltage and capacity fading of DHNs, and 2,6-DHN's excellent electrochemical performance is derived from its high polymerization energy barrier. By compounding with rGO, the 2,6-DHN/rGO electrode can maintain a specific capacity of 89 mAh g-1 even after 12 000 cycles at 5 A g-1 . When it is paired with the 2,6-dihydroxyanthraquinone (DHAQ) anode, the assembled rocking-chair all-organic proton battery exhibited a high cell voltage of 0.85 V, and excellent energy/power densities (70.8 Wh kg-1 /850 W kg-1 ). This study showcases a new-type high-potential proton-containing organic cathode and paves the way for constructing a high-voltage rocking-chair proton battery. Also, in situ solid-state electropolymerization will inspire the further study of phenol-based small-molecule electrodes.

RESUMO

Isoflurane, a widely used inhalation anesthetic in clinical practice, is associated with an increased risk of neuronal injury. Heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) plays a crucial role in maintaining neuronal homeostasis under stress conditions; however, its role during isoflurane exposure remains poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective effects of HSP90 inhibition and explore the regulatory mechanisms underlying these effects during isoflurane exposure. We found that the HSP90 inhibitor 17-N-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin (17 AAG) has great protective effects in mitigating isoflurane-induced ferroptosis of mouse hippocampus and cultured neuronal cells. We focused on the activity of the crucial protein GPX4 in ferroptosis and found that 17 AAG exerted protective effects, preserving the physiological GPX4 activity under isoflurane exposure; further, 17 AAG restored the protein level of GPX4. Further, we observed that the chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) pathway was activated; 17 AAG also mediated GPX4 degradation under isoflurane exposure. Additionally, it interfered with the formation of complexes between HSP90 and Lamp-2a, inhibiting CMA activity, followed by the blockade of GPX4 degradation, further affecting the isoflurane-induced ferroptosis. Based on these findings, we proposed HSP90 inhibition as a protective mechanism against isoflurane-induced ferroptosis in neurons.

RESUMO

ZSM-5 zeolites with modified acidity and diffusivity are employed as catalysts for the shape-selective alkylation of toluene with ethanol to para-ethyltoluene (p-ET). To avoid pore blocking and loss of active sites caused by traditional methods of enhancing para-selectivity using modifiers, here, we constructed twin intergrowth structured ZSM-5 (Z5-T), achieving modulation of the inherent acidity and diffusivity through interface engineering. The characterization results demonstrate that due to the intergrowth interface, the Z5-T catalyst forms more inherent Lewis acid sites and also renders more sinusoidal channels opened to the surface. Z5-T with an appropriate acidity and enhanced shape-selectivity inhibits side reactions such as isomerization and coke formation, demonstrating improved p-ET selectivity (>90%) and catalytic stability (>200 h) in the alkylation of toluene with ethanol.

RESUMO

Bovine mastitis (BM) is mainly caused by bacterial infection that has a highly impact on dairy production, affecting both economic viability and animal well-being. A cross-sectional study was conducted in dairy farms to investigate the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance patterns of bacterial pathogens associated with BM. The analysis revealed that Staphylococcus (49%), Escherichia (16%), Pseudomonas (11%), and Klebsiella (6%) were the primary bacterial pathogens associated with mastitis. A significant proportion of Staphylococcus strains displayed multiple drug resistance. The use of disinfectants is an important conventional measure to control the pathogenic bacteria in the environment. Bacteriophages (Phages), possessing antibacterial properties, are natural green and effective disinfectants. Moreover, they mitigate the risk of generating harmful disinfection byproducts, which are commonly associated with traditional disinfection methods. Based on the primary bacterial pathogens associated with mastitis in the investigation area, a phage cocktail, named SPBC-SJ, containing seven phages capable of lysing S. aureus, E. coli, and P. aeruginosa was formulated. SPBC-SJ exhibited superior bactericidal activity and catharsis effect on pollutants (glass surface) compared to chemical disinfectants. Clinical trials confirmed that the SPBC-SJ-based superimposed disinfection group (phage combined with chemical disinfectants) not only cut down the dosage of disinfectants used, but significantly reduced total bacterial counts on the ground and in the feeding trough of dairy farms. Furthermore, SPBC-SJ significantly reduced the abundance of Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas in the environment of the dairy farm. These findings suggest that phage-based superimposed disinfection is a promising alternative method to combat mastitis pathogens in dairy farms due to its highly efficient and environmentally-friendly properties.

RESUMO

The evolution of the information transfer capability of an optical system for underwater focused wave mode localized wave (FWMLW) in anisotropic weakly turbulent absorbing seawater is studied. By developing the probability distribution function as well as the detection probability of the vortex modes carried by the FWMLW and the average bit error rate of the FWMLW underwater system, the information capacity of the FWMLW system with a pointing error is modeled. Through a numerical analysis of the effects of turbulent seawater and optical system parameters on the built light intensity, the detection probability, and the information capacity models, we find that the FWMLW system has an optimal delay time determined by the spectrum bandwidth when the spectrum bandwidth is greater than 1. The information capacity of the FWMLW system is higher than that of the X localized wave system under the same turbulent seawater channel condition, and FWMLW is a better optical signal source for vortex mode division multiplexing underwater systems than a Bessel-Gaussian beam.

RESUMO

All-solid lithium (Li) metal batteries (ASSLBs) with sulfide-based solid electrolyte (SEs) films exhibit excellent electrochemical performance, rendering them capable of satisfying the growing demand for energy storage systems. However, challenges persist in the application of SEs film owing to their reactivity with Li metal and uncontrolled formation of lithium dendrites. In this study, iodine-doped poly(vinylidenefluoride-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) as an interlayer (PHI) to establish a stable interphase between Li metal and Li6 PS5 Cl (LPSCl) films is investigated. The release of I ions and PVDF-HFP produces LiI and LiF, effectively suppressing lithium dendrite growth. Density functional theory calculations show that the synthesized interlayer layer exhibits high interfacial energy. Results show that the PHI@Li/LPSCl film/PHI@Li symmetrical cells can cycle for more than 650 h at 0.1 mA cm-2 . The PHI@Li/LPSCl film/NCM622 cell exhibits a distinct enhancement in capacity retention of ≈26% when using LiNi0.6 Mn0.2 Co0.2 O2 (NCM622) as the cathode, compared to pristine Li metal as the anode. This study presents a feasible method for producing next-generation dendrite-free SEs films, promoting their practical use in ASSLBs.

RESUMO

Perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PNDs) are some of the most common postoperative complications among the elderly and susceptible individuals, which significantly worsens the clinical outcome of patients. However, the prevention and treatment strategies of PNDs are difficult to determine and implement since the pathogenesis of PNDs is not well understood. The development of living organisms is associated with active and organized cell death, which is essential for maintaining the homeostasis of life. Ferroptosis is a programmed cell death (different from apoptosis and necrosis) mainly caused by an imbalance in the generation and degradation of intracellular lipid peroxides due to iron overload. Pyroptosis is an inflammatory cell death characterized by the creation of membrane holes mediated by the gasdermin (GSDM) family, followed by cell lysis and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Ferroptosis and pyroptosis are involved in the pathogenesis of various central nervous system (CNS) diseases. Furthermore, ferroptosis and pyroptosis are closely associated with the occurrence and development of PNDs. This review summarizes the main regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis and pyroptosis and the latest related to PNDs. Based on the available evidence, potential intervention strategies that can alleviate PNDs by inhibiting ferroptosis and pyroptosis have also been provided.

RESUMO

The spatial coherence length and wave phase structure function are two important factors in describing turbulence's effect on light propagation in seawater. This paper derives the wave phase structure function and spatial coherence length of plane waves in moderate to strong turbulent channels by deriving a "modification seawater turbulence power spectrum" and an oceanic-modified Rytov approximation. The evolutions in wave structure function, coherence length with the temperature dissipation rate, energy dissipation rate, anisotropy turbulence factor, signal wavelength, and propagation distance are analyzed by numerical calculation. In the moderate and strong turbulence regions, the phase structure function and spatial coherence length increase and decrease with increasing transmission distance and turbulence strength, respectively, and there is a saturation tendency for both. The fluctuation of seawater salinity has a greater effect on the phase structure function and coherence length than the temperature fluctuation. In addition, the wave structure function decreases with increasing signal wavelength and degree of turbulent anisotropy, but the trend of spatial coherence length is reversed.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: School attendance problems (SAPs), whether absenteeism or dropout, are strongly associated with poor outcomes for adolescents. We examined multiple variables that influence SAPs to identify potential leverage points for improving school attendance. METHODS: Self-reported SAPs and demographic information was collected from 392 adolescents in adolescents presenting to the general hospital for psychological services. PHQ-9 and GAD-7 were applied to assess the severity of depressive and anxious symptoms. We constructed logistic regression analysis and the Chi-Square Automatic Interaction Detection (CHAID) segmentation analysis via SPSS Decision Tree to identifying risk factors for the development of SAPs in adolescents. RESULTS: SAPs were self-reported by 252 (64.3%) adolescents. The SAPs group and non-SAPs group showed a significant difference in age, PHQ9 total scores, GAD7 total scores, schools, siblings, residence, parental marital quality, general health, regular exercise, and regular diet. A post hoc comparison between the two groups showed that the frequency of SAPs was significantly higher in the moderately-severe and severe depressive groups compared with other three groups (none, mild, moderate). The frequency of SAPs in severe anxious groups was significantly different from the none-anxious group. According to the binary logistic regression analysis, the depressive severity, siblings, residence, marital quality of parents, general health, and regular diet were correlated with the SAPs among adolescents. The adjusted OR of SAPs according to moderately-severe depressive symptoms was 10.84 (95%CI: 1.967-59.742) and severe depressive symptoms was 6.659 (95%CI: 1.147-38.666). In the decision tree model, PHQ-9 severity was extracted as the first splitting variable, with regular exercise and residence as the second, and siblings as the third. The ROC curves for predicting SAPs showed a fair diagnostic accuracy of the model with AUCs of CHAID model (0.705,95%CI:0.652-0.759, P = 0.000) and logistic regression model (0.777,95%CI:0.729-0.824, P = 0.000). CONCLUSION: Our study provides insights into the associations between depressive symptoms and poor school attendance and identifies a number of risk factors associated with SAPs. Effective intervention by mental health practitioners, more attention by policy makers, and further research in this area are urgently needed for adolescents.

RESUMO

Background: Chronic kidney disease, affecting millions globally, has emerged as a significant health concern alongside tumors, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Peritoneal dialysis is a widely used therapeutic intervention, but its effectiveness can be compromised by complications such as peritonitis. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search across eight international databases to obtain controlled trials evaluating the impact of continuous nursing on peritonitis occurrence in peritoneal dialysis patients. Following stringent quality assessment, data analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: Our meta-analysis included 15 controlled trials. Of these, 13 reported peritonitis rates in both intervention and control groups. Continuous nursing was associated with a significant reduction in peritonitis incidence (OR: 0.32; 95% CI: 0.23,0.44) and complications (SMD: 3.21; 95% CI: 1.17,5.25; P = .01), as well as a decrease in serum creatinine levels (SMD: -130.06; 95% CI: -195.46,-64). Conclusion: The findings of this study support the possibility that ongoing nursing is beneficial for the complications and creatinine for peritoneal dialysis patients.

RESUMO

The PLATZ family is a novel class of plant-specific zinc finger transcription factors with important roles in plant growth and development and abiotic stress responses. PLATZ members have been identified in many plants, including Oryza sativa, Zea mays, Triticum aestivum, Fagopyrum tataricum, and Arabidopsis thaliana; however, due to the complexity of the alfalfa reference genome, the members of the PLATZ gene family in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) have not been systematically identified and analyzed. In this study, 55 Medicago sativa PLATZ genes (MsPLATZs) were identified in the alfalfa "Xinjiangdaye" reference genome. Basic bioinformatic analysis was performed, including the characterization of sequence lengths, protein molecular weights, genomic positions, and conserved motifs. Expression analysis reveals that 7 MsPLATZs are tissue-specifically expressed, and 10 MsPLATZs are expressed in all examined tissues. The transcriptomic expression of these genes is obvious, indicating that these MsPLATZs have different functions in the growth and development of alfalfa. Based on transcriptome data analysis and real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), we identified 22, 22, and 21 MsPLATZ genes that responded to salt, cold, and drought stress, respectively, with 20 MsPLATZs responding to all three stresses. This study lays a foundation for further exploring the functions of MsPLATZs, and provides ideas for the improvement of alfalfa varieties and germplasm innovation.

RESUMO

Heat shock transcription factors (HSFs) are important regulatory factors in plant stress responses to various biotic and abiotic stresses and play important roles in growth and development. The HSF gene family has been systematically identified and analyzed in many plants but it is not in the tetraploid alfalfa genome. We detected 104 HSF genes (MsHSFs) in the tetraploid alfalfa genome ("Xinjiangdaye" reference genome) and classified them into three subgroups: 68 in HSFA, 35 in HSFB and 1 in HSFC subgroups. Basic bioinformatics analysis, including genome location, protein sequence length, protein molecular weight and conserved motif identification, was conducted. Gene expression analysis revealed tissue-specific expression for 13 MsHSFs and tissue-wide expression for 28 MsHSFs. Based on transcriptomic data analysis, 21, 11 and 27 MsHSFs responded to drought stress, cold stress and salt stress, respectively, with seven responding to all three. According to RT-PCR, MsHSF27/33 expression gradually increased with cold, salt and drought stress condition duration; MsHSF6 expression increased over time under salt and drought stress conditions but decreased under cold stress. Our results provide key information for further functional analysis of MsHSFs and for genetic improvement of stress resistance in alfalfa.

RESUMO

Somatic cells can be reprogrammed into pluripotent stem cells with a minimal set of defined factors, Oct3/4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc, also known as OKSM, although this reprogramming is somewhat inefficient. Recent work has identified other nuclear factors, including SALL4, that can synergize with the OSK factors to improve reprogramming dynamics, but the specific role of each of these factors remains poorly understood. In this study, we sought to learn more about the role of SALL4. We observed that SALL4 was the most significant factor in promoting OKS-induced reprogramming. To look for molecules downstream of SALL4, we screened a set of putative targets to determine whether they could promote OKS-induced reprogramming. We identified CECR2, a multidomain nuclear factor and histone acetyl-lysine reader, as a SALL4 effector. Mechanistically, we determined that SALL4 activates Cecr2 expression by directly binding to its promotor region. CECR2 in turn promotes reprogramming by forming a chromatin remodeling complex; this complex contained the SWI/SNF family member SMARCA1 and was dependent on CECR2's DTT domain. In combination, our findings suggest that CECR2 is a novel reprogramming factor and works through a protein network to overcome epigenetic barriers during reprogramming.

RESUMO

The artificial synapses are basic units in the hardware implementation of neuromorphic computing, whose performances should be gradually modulated under external stimuli. The underlying mechanism of the increasing and decreasing device conductance is still unclear in the Hf0.5Zr0.5O2based synapses. In this study, the Hf0.5Zr0.5O2capacitors with different stack orders are fabricated in atomic layer deposition, whose ferroelectric properties are investigated by analyzing the capacitance-voltage and polarization-voltage curves. The enhanced ferroelectricity is found after the rapid thermal annealing treatment for all the TiN/Hf0.5Zr0.5O2/TiN, TiN/HfO2-ZrO2/TiN and TiN/ZrO2-HfO2/TiN devices. In the device with poor ferroelectricity, the conductance gradually decreases under both positive and negative identical pulse schemes, which corresponds to the gradual dissolution process of the conductive filaments established in the initial pulse. For the capacitors with strong ferroelectricity, dual-direction conductance modulation can be observed due to the partial domain switching process, which can emulate the potentiation and depression process of biological synapses.

RESUMO

Postoperative neurocognitive disorders are common neurological complications following surgery that are generally characterized by varying degrees of cognitive impairment. Postoperative neurocognitive disorders can exhibit as short-term postoperative delirium and/or long-term postoperative cognitive dysfunction. In addition, postoperative neurocognitive disorders may result in poor outcomes in patients, and are a leading cause of postoperative morbidity and mortality, particularly in elderly patients. Recently, there has been a heightened interest in mechanisms and clinical treatments for postoperative neurocognitive disorders. Though some influencing factors and mechanisms of postoperative neurocognitive disorders have been revealed, they remain troublesome problems in clinical departments. Dexmedetomidine is a commonly used anesthetic adjuvant that may help improve postoperative cognitive impairment, especially the conditions of a postoperative acute event (postoperative delirium, within 1 week after operation) and delayed neurocognitive recovery (postoperative cognitive dysfunction, up to 30 days). In the recent literature, dexmedetomidine has been shown to exert positive effects on cognitive impairment in clinical and animal studies, especially for postoperative neurocognitive disorders. However, not all clinical findings support this efficacy. Though some mechanisms of dexmedetomidine on postoperative neurocognitive disorders have been proposed, such as signaling pathways associated with inflammation and apoptosis, this evidence is fragmentary and disputed in the literature. Therefore, this article aims to review the potential biological mechanisms underlying dexmedetomidine's effects on postoperative neurocognitive disorders, providing a reference for future studies.

RESUMO

The wander and long-term spread of a beam caused by turbulence are two important factors affecting channel targeting and information receiving in optics communication systems. In this paper, the wander and long-term spread of a perfect Laguerre-Gauss (PLG)/circular perfect Laguerre-Gauss (CPLG) beam in turbulent absorbing seawater are studied. The analytical expression of the wander for a CPLG beam in the weak turbulent fluctuation region and the analytical expression of the long-term spread for a CPLG beam in a weak to strong turbulent fluctuation region are derived by using the Rytov approximation and the generalized Huygens-Fresnel integral, respectively. Through numerical analysis, we find that the optimal beam diameter and self-convergence effect of the PLG beam exist under given communication link conditions, the long-term spread of PLG beam is smaller than that of the LG beam, but the wander evolution trend of the PLG beam with increasing propagation distance is opposite to that of the LG beam. PLG and CPLG beams have stronger resistance disturbance of turbulence than that of Laguerre-Gauss and circular Laguerre-Gauss beams, respectively.

RESUMO

NAC (NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2) transcription factors compose one of the largest families of plant-specific transcription factors; they are widely involved in plant growth and development and have especially important roles in improving stress resistance in plants. However, NAC gene family members in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) have not been systematically identified and analyzed genome-wide due to the complexity of the alfalfa reference genome. In this study, a total of 421 M. sativa NAC genes (MsNACs) were identified from the alfalfa "Xinjiangdaye" reference genome. Basic bioinformatics analysis, including characterization of sequence length, protein molecular weight and genome position and conserved motif analysis, was conducted. Expression analysis showed that 47 MsNACs had tissue-specific expression, and 64 MsNACs were expressed in all tissues. The transcriptomic profiles of the genes were very different, indicating that these MsNACs have various functions in alfalfa growth and development. We identified 25, 42 and 47 MsNACs that respond to cold, drought and salt stress based on transcriptome data analysis and real-time quantitative PCR (RT−qPCR). Furthermore, 22 MsNACs were found to respond to both salt and drought stress, and 15 MsNACs were found to respond to cold, salt and drought stress. The results of this study could provide valuable information for further functional analysis of MsNACs and for the improvement of stress resistance in alfalfa.

RESUMO

Energy shortages and greenhouse effects are two unavoidable problems that need to be solved. Photocatalytically converting CO2 into a series of valuable chemicals is considered to be an effective means of solving the above dilemmas. Among these photocatalysts, the utilization of black phosphorus for CO2 photocatalytic reduction deserves a lightspot not only for its excellent catalytic activity through different reaction routes, but also on account of the great preponderance of this relatively cheap catalyst. Herein, this review offers a summary of the recent advances in synthesis, structure, properties, and application for CO2 photocatalytic reduction. In detail, the review starts from the basic principle of CO2 photocatalytic reduction. In the following section, the synthesis, structure, and properties, as well as CO2 photocatalytic reduction process of black phosphorus-based photocatalyst are discussed. In addition, some possible influencing factors and reaction mechanism are also summarized. Finally, a summary and the possible future perspectives of black phosphorus-based photocatalyst for CO2 reduction are established.
