RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is often accompanied by psychotic symptoms. However, few studies have examined the relationship between psychotic symptoms and endocrine factors in adolescent patients with MDD. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence and related endocrine clinical factors of psychotic symptoms in Chinese adolescent patients with MDD. METHODS: In total, 601 patients (aged 12-18) with MDD were recruited. The Patient Health Questionnaire - 9 items (PHQ - 9) was utilized for assessing depressive symptoms. Psychotic symptoms were assessed through clinical interviews. Prolactin (PRL), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3), free triiodothyronine (FT3), thyroxine (T4), and free thyroxine (FT4) were also measured. RESULTS: The incidence of psychotic symptoms in adolescent patients with MDD was 22.6%. The findings demonstrated that age, self-harming behavior, PHQ-9 score, FT4, and normalized PRL were independently associated with psychotic symptoms in patients with MDD (All p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: PRL and FT4 levels are more likely to be abnormally elevated in major depressive adolescents with psychotic symptoms. Prolactin and thyroid hormones in patients with MDD should be paid more attention.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Suicidal ideation is common among people diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorders and may be related to neurocognitive, social cognitive, and clinical variables. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between suicidal ideation and both neurocognitive function and empathy. METHODS: The sample for this cross-sectional study comprised 301 schizophrenic patients aged 18-44 years. All participants were administered the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation-Chinese Version (BSI-CV), the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS), the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). The demographic and clinical data of the patients were also collected. RESULTS: In total, 82 patients reported suicidal ideation. Compared to patients without suicidal ideation, patients with suicidal ideation showed significant differences in the IRI-Personal Distress subscale, PANSS-General Psychopathology symptom scores, and suicide attempts. Moreover, there were moderating effects of neurocognitive function and empathy on the relationship between suicide attempts and suicidal ideation. CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that the personal distress component of empathy, general psychopathology symptoms and suicide attempts are independent risk factors for suicidal ideation in Chinese adults with schizophrenia. Moreover, neurocognitive function may also be related to suicidal ideation through a moderating relationship. In order to reduce suicidal ideation among patients with schizophrenia, early screening of empathy and neurocognitive function is essential.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Methamphetamine (METH) dependence is a complex and dynamic public health problem. Long-term abuse of METH can increase numerous risks of mental and physical problems. Currently, the methods to reduce METH dependence and improve the withdrawal symptoms are limited and ineffective. Resilience is seen as a multidimensional and dynamic capability to recover or bounce back from stressful events and is also generally considered as a protective factor against mental dysfunction. METHODS: One hundred thirty-four males with METH dependence were consecutively recruited from Huanglong Compulsory Isolated Detoxification Center between 2019 and 2021, of whom 112 were into the group. The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), Self-rating depression scale (SDS), Self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11(BIS-11), and the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (Rbans) were used to evaluate resilience, depression, anxiety, impulsivity, and cognition respectively. RESULTS: The results mainly indicated that high resilience group showed lower SDS, SAS and BIS-11 scores than low resilience group (all p < 0.05). Besides, the total scores of Rbans were higher in high resilience groups than low resilience group (both p < 0.05). Moreover, linear regression results showed that resilience may be influenced by the scores of SDS and SAS. CONCLUSIONS: Resilience is negatively correlated with impulsivity and depression. Besides, it is also positively associated with cognitive function. Drug users with higher resilience may have a strong ability to mobilize psychological resources to create a good psychological environment, which may have a positive effect on the relief or improvement of symptoms.

RESUMO

Viral pneumonia is a common complication caused by Influenza A virus infection and is characterized by severe pulmonary inflammation. A previous study showed that berberine (BBR) significantly ameliorated the pulmonary inflammation in mice with influenza viral pneumonia but its underlying mechanism is not entirely understood. In this study, we reproduced the mouse model of influenza viral pneumonia through intranasal infection of A/Puerto Rico/8/34 (H1N1), to further investigate the anti-inflammatory mechanism of BBR based on nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein (NLRP) 3 inflammasome activation and Gasdermin D (GSDMD)-mediated pyroptosis. Consistent with MCC950 (10 mg/kg, a specific NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor), BBR (10 mg/kg) obviously improved the weight loss and survival rate of infected mice, alleviated their pulmonary inflammation, and suppressed the accumulation of tumor necrosis factor and interleukin (IL)-6 in lungs without obvious inhibition on viral multiplication (hemagglutinin titer and nucleoprotein messenger RNA). Moreover, BBR (10 mg/kg) reduced the expressions of NLRP3, apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD (ASC), and cysteinyl aspartate-specific proteinase (Caspase)1 (Caspase1 precursor [Pro-caspase1] + Caspase1p20 subunit) and the ratio of Caspase1p20 subunit to Caspase1, thus inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome activation and resulting in the decreased contents of mature IL-1ß and IL-18 in lungs. The GSDMD expression (GSDMD precursor [Pro-GSDMD] + GSDMD-N terminal [NT]) and the ratio of GSDMD-NT to GSDMD were also declined by BBR (10 mg/kg). These evidence indicate that BBR may ameliorate pulmonary inflammation in mice with influenza viral pneumonia through inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation, as well as depressing GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis via declining GSDMD expression and restraining NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated GSDMD activation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUNDS: Major depressive disorder is an ordinary mental disorder, and suicide is considered to be a major concern among patients with MDD. Previous studies focused on the relationship between suicide attempts and metabolism in elderly patients with MDD, while ignore the young people. The aim of this study is to find the potential relationship between suicide attempts and metabolism in young patients with MDD to find a way to prevent and ultimately reduce suicide in young patients with MDD. METHODS: Cross-sectional design was employed in the study.740 patients aged between 18 and 45 years old with MDD had been consecutively recruited in this study between 2011 and 2017, 128 of whom had suicide attempts. Their serum samples used to monitor fasting blood glucose, serum lipids as well as socio-demographic characteristics were collected. Besides, some clinical scales were also employed to measure symptoms of anxiety, depression and other conditions. RESULTS: This study indicated that compared with non-suicide attempters, suicide attempters in young patients with MDD showed higher levels of FBG, TC, LDL-C (all p <  0.05) and lower levels of HDL-C(p <  0.001). Further logistic regression analysis suggested that suicide attempts were associated with increased FBG, decreased HDL-C, the course of disease, HAMD scores and obvious anxiety. CONCLUSIONS: Suicide attempts in young patients with MDD may be predicted by metabolic levels in the future. And our findings suggested that the level of FBG and HDL-C can be promising biomarkers to predict the occurrence of this event.

RESUMO

Consider a symmetric multivariate Gaussian source with ℓ components, which are corrupted by independent and identically distributed Gaussian noises; these noisy components are compressed at a certain rate, and the compressed version is leveraged to reconstruct the source subject to a mean squared error distortion constraint. The rate-distortion analysis is performed for two scenarios: centralized encoding (where the noisy source components are jointly compressed) and distributed encoding (where the noisy source components are separately compressed). It is shown, among other things, that the gap between the rate-distortion functions associated with these two scenarios admits a simple characterization in the large ℓ limit.

RESUMO

To exclude the influence of motion on in vivo calcium imaging, animals usually need to be fixed. However, the whole-body restraint can cause stress in animals, affecting experimental results. In addition, some brain regions are prone to bleeding during surgery, which lowers the success rate of calcium imaging. Here, we present a protocol for calcium imaging using heparin-treated fiber in head-fixed mice. We describe steps for stereotaxic surgery, including virus injection and optic fiber implantation, fiber photometry, and data analysis. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Du et al.1.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Influenza viral pneumonia is a common complication after influenza virus infection. Xijiao Dihuang Decoction combined with Yinqiao Powder (XDY) is effective on improving influenza viral pneumonia. PURPOSE: This study further explores the anti-inflammatory mechanism of XDY in the treatment of influenza viral pneumonia. STUDY DESIGN: The effects of XDY on inflammation, autophagy, NACHT-LRR-PYD-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome and pyroptosis were assessed in the mice with influenza viral pneumonia. In addition, the mouse macrophage cell line (J774A.1) infected with influenza virus was adopted to decode the in vitro effects of XDY on autophagy, reactive oxygen species (ROS), NLRP3 inflammasome and pyroptosis. We analyzed the XDY-induced autophagy, especially the mitophagy-related ROS clearance, and the subsequent inhibition of ROS/NLRP3 inflammasome/pyroptosis signaling in the infected macrophages by different assays based on quantitative polymerase chain reaction, western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: In vivo, XDY could effectively improve the lung inflammatory response in the mice with influenza virus pneumonia, due to an intact autophagy flux-promoting effect and the inhibiting roles on NLRP3 inflammasome and pyroptosis. Notably, in vitro, compared with the infected macrophages treated by the NLRP3 inflammasome agonist (Monosodium urate) or the mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant agent, the XDY-dependent treating could inhibit pyroptosis by negatively regulating the signaling axis of ROS/NLRP3 inflammasome/pyroptosis in the influenza virus-infected macrophages. More interestingly, XDY could promote an intact autophagy flux, inducing mitophagy eliminating the damaged mitochondria to reduce the intracellular ROS accumulation, and thus decrease the oxidative stress in the infected macrophages. Especially, the inhibitor of autophagy inition, 3-Methyladenine, could reverse the inhibitory effect of XDY on ROS-NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated pyroptosis, indicating an XDY-promoted mitophagy-dependent ROS scavenging. CONCLUSION: XDY can promote an intact autophagy flux to eliminate damaged mitochondria, namely mitophagy, which reduces the intracellular ROS accumulation contributing to NLRP3 inflammasome activation, restricting pyroptosis and eventually alleviating the influenza virus-induced inflammatory lesions. The obtained results provide new insights into the mechanism of action of XDY in alleviating influenza virus pneumonia, especially the roles of XDY in anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation and anti-pyroptosis, with potential therapeutic targets for future application in integrative medicine.

RESUMO

Neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis and progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The Sterile Alpha and Toll Interleukin Receptor Motif-containing protein 1 (SARM1) has been shown to promote axonal degeneration and is involved in neuroinflammation. However, the role of SARM1 in AD remains unclear. In this study, we found that SARM1 was reduced in hippocampal neurons of AD model mice. Interestingly, conditional knockout (CKO) of SARM1 in the central nervous system (CNS, SARM1Nestin-CKO mice) delayed the cognitive decline in APP/PS1 AD model mice. Furthermore, SARM1 deletion reduced the Aß deposition and inflammatory infiltration in the hippocampus and inhibited neurodegeneration in APP/PS1 AD model mice. Further investigation into the underlying mechanisms revealed that the signaling of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) was downregulated in the hippocampus tissues of APP/PS1;SARM1Nestin-CKO mice, thereby alleviating the cognitive decline, Aß deposition and inflammatory infiltration. These findings identify unrecognized functions of SARM1 in promoting AD and reveal the SARM1-TNF-α pathway in AD model mice.

RESUMO

GABAergic neurons in the laterodorsal tegmental nucleus (LDTGABA) encode aversion by directly inhibiting mesolimbic dopamine (DA). Yet, the detailed cellular and circuit mechanisms by which these cells relay unpleasant stimuli to DA neurons and regulate behavioral output remain largely unclear. Here, we show that LDTGABA neurons bidirectionally respond to rewarding and aversive stimuli in mice. Activation of LDTGABA neurons promotes aversion and reduces DA release in the lateral nucleus accumbens. Furthermore, we identified two molecularly distinct LDTGABA cell populations. Somatostatin-expressing (Sst+) LDTGABA neurons indirectly regulate the mesolimbic DA system by disinhibiting excitatory hypothalamic neurons. In contrast, Reelin-expressing LDTGABA neurons directly inhibit downstream DA neurons. The identification of separate GABAergic subpopulations in a single brainstem nucleus that relay unpleasant stimuli to the mesolimbic DA system through direct and indirect projections is critical for establishing a circuit-level understanding of how negative valence is encoded in the mammalian brain.

RESUMO

Background: Sleep disorders are prevalent among patients with schizophrenia and are associated with several negative consequences. Although, researchers have recently suggested that sleep disorders have a close correlation with alexithymia, and schizophrenia also has a strong correlation with alexithymia, there have been few studies on the relationships between schizophrenia, sleep disorders and alexithymia. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the relationships between psychiatric symptoms, alexithymia and sleep problems in patients with schizophrenia so as to provide a reference for the clinical treatment of this comorbidity. Methods: In total, 977 patients with schizophrenia were recruited for this study. The Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) was used to assess sleep disorders, and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) and Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS) were used to evaluate clinical symptoms, cognitive functions and the ability to express emotion, respectively. Results: The results indicated that the PANSS subscales (G-subscore) and TAS group were risk factors for insomnia in schizophrenia patients (all p < 0.05). The mediation model showed the standardized path coefficients from schizophrenia to alexithymia (ß = 0.104, p < 0.001) and from alexithymia to insomnia (ß = 0.038, p < 0.001) were statistically significant. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that alexithymia is associated with sleep disturbance in patients with schizophrenia. These findings may provide a new avenue for the treatment of schizophrenia patients with sleep disorders.

RESUMO

Introduction: The COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease belonging to the family of coronaviruses which can affect a great deal of people shortly. As a devastating event in the world, many people suffer the PTSD from this severe disease. The aim of study is to explore the prevalence and severity of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, and discuss the possible factors among the general public in China after the COVID-19 epidemic outbreak. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. We used the self-designed demographic questionnaire and the Posttraumatic Stress Checklist-Civilian Version (PCL-C) of Chinese version as our screening tools to investigate 4872 subjects living in the communities in China from Nov. 8th, 2020 to Dec. 8th, 2020. Results: Finally, we received 3705 effective respondents. The response rates of the questionnaire can reach 76.97 percentage. Peculiarly, the prevalence of PTSD mild and severe symptoms after the COVID-19 epidemic outbreak was 53.2%. Mild PTSD symptoms accounted for 24.9%, and severe PTSD symptoms (scores above 38) accounted for 28.3%. PCL-C mean scores were 41.4±14.7. The females accounted for 67.7% of the total samples. Participants' mean age was 30.5±11.2 years old. The PCL-C gross scores of females were all higher than males in four subject groups. Meantime, gender and age made differences not only in total PCL-C points but also in the four aspects of PCL-C (P<0.001). The middle-aged group (ages from 45 to 60) got the lowest scores among the four groups. Conclusion: COVID-19 brought tremendous psychological pressure on the public in many ways, including people's work, social contact, study, and daily life. Results of our research discover that symptoms of the PTSD are severe, including the re-experiencing, avoidance/numbing, flashbacks, and hyper-arousal. Actions should be taken at society level to prevent and protect individuals from PTSD suffering. Special attention should be paid to females and young people. Further studies should be conducted to explore the dynamic and other risk and protection factors to prevent PTSD.

RESUMO

Background: Previous studies suggest that alcohol dependence is associated with depression, however, the effect of alcohol dependence varies from individual to individual, which may be due to different genetic backgrounds. The interactions between alcohol dependence and different gene polymorphisms may finally shape the onset of depression. Neuropeptide Y (NPY), which can maintain homeostasis from high-stress stimulation, may protect individuals from the onset of depression. Here, we explored whether the NPY rs16147:T>C has an association with depression in individuals with alcohol dependence during the period of alcohol dependence withdrawal. Methods: A total of 455 males with alcohol dependence were recruited. The scale of Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) and Self-Depression Scale (SDS) were respectively used to analyze the condition of alcohol dependence and depression. Genomic DNA was extracted from each blood sample and NPY polymorphisms were genotyped. The interaction between NPY rs16147:T>C and alcohol dependence on depression was first analyzed. Then, region of significance analysis was used to confirm which model provided the best fit for the interaction (diathesis-stress or differential susceptibility). Finally, by using internal replication analyses, the accuracy and robustness of the interaction results were improved. Results: Alcohol dependence was positively correlated with depression. CC homozygotes of NPY rs16147:T>C exhibited less depression when exposed to low alcohol dependence, but more depression when exposed to high alcohol dependence. Individuals with the T allele showed the opposite result. Conclusion: NPY rs16147:T>C might be correlated with susceptibility for depression in males during alcohol dependence withdrawal. The findings support the differential susceptibility model.

RESUMO

Most women in the perinatal period face sleep issues, which can affect their mental health. Only a few studies have focused on sleep trajectories and depressive symptoms of women during the perinatal period in China. This study aims to explore the development trajectory of sleep quality by classifying pregnant women according to the changes in their sleep quality during pregnancy and postpartum and investigate the correlation between different sleep quality trajectory groups and depressive symptoms. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess the sleep quality, and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to assess the symptoms of depression. Participants (n = 412) completed the assessment of sleep quality, depressive symptoms, and some sociodemographic and obstetric data at 36 weeks of gestation, 1 week after delivery, and 6 weeks after delivery. The group-based trajectory model (GBTM) was used to complete the trajectory classification, and logistic regression was used to analyze the predictive factors of postpartum depressive symptoms. Four different sleep quality trajectories were determined: "stable-good," "worsening," "improving," and "stable-poor" groups. The results demonstrate that poor sleep trajectories, social support and parenting experience during the perinatal period are related to postpartum depression. Screening for prenatal sleep problems is crucial for identifying the onset of perinatal depressive symptoms.

RESUMO

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a group of neurodevelopmental disorder diseases, is characterized by social deficits, communication difficulties, and repetitive behaviors. Sterile alpha and TIR motif-containing 1 protein (SARM1) is known as an autism-associated protein and is enriched in brain tissue. Moreover, SARM1 knockdown mice exhibit autism-like behaviors. However, its specific mechanism in ASD pathogenesis remains unclear. Here we generated parvalbumin-positive interneurons (PVI)-specific conditional SARM1 knockout (SARM1PV-CKO) mice. SARM1PV-CKO male mice showed autism-like behaviors, such as mild social interaction deficits and repetitive behaviors. Moreover, we found that the expression level of parvalbumin was reduced in SARM1PV-CKO male mice, together with upregulated apoptosis-related proteins and more cleaved-caspase-3-positive PVIs, suggesting that knocking out SARM1 may cause a reduction in the number of PVIs due to apoptosis. Furthermore, the expression of c-fos was shown to increase in SARM1PV-CKO male mice, in combination with upregulation of excitatory postsynaptic proteins such as PSD-95 or neuroligin-1, indicating enhanced excitatory synaptic input in mutant mice. This notion was further supported by the partial rescue of autism-like behavior deficits by the administration of GABA receptor agonists in SARM1PV-CKO male mice. In conclusion, our findings suggest that SARM1 deficiency in PVIs may be involved in the pathogenesis of ASD.

RESUMO

The potential correlation between serum lipid profiles and suicidal tendencies has been previously reported, however, it is unclear whether serum lipid profiles have definite relevance to recently attempted suicides in individuals suffering from major depressive disorder (MDD). In this study, the relationship between blood lipids and suicide attempts in first-episode MDD patients in research were used to examine whether there is a connection. The cross-sectional study recruited 580 patients at the time of their first episode, measuring up to the diagnostic standard of MDD. Baseline demographic, clinical data, and blood lipid level data were collected. Depression severity was measured with the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD). Our results revealed that the level of TC may be identified as a promising and effective biomarker for first-episode MDD suicide risk, suggesting that screening of serum lipid profiles in depressive patients is essential for suicide prevention.

RESUMO

Objective: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is the most common substance use disorder, which may relate to increased impulsivity. A more detailed understanding of the potential moderating factor on association between AUD and impulsivity is likely to have far-reaching effects. This study aims to examine whether the interaction between a genetic variant ZNF804A rs1344706 and alcohol use is related to impulsivity in Chinese Han adult males diagnosed with AUD. Methods: A total of 455 Chinese Han adult males diagnosed with AUD were included in this study. Impulsivity was assessed using Barratt Impulsiveness Scale. Alcohol dependence was measured by Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of participants and genotyped. Results: Hierarchical multiple regression yielded a significant interaction between ZNF804A rs1344706 and alcohol use (ß = 0.20, p = 0.0237). Then, A region of significance (RoS) test was performed to interpret the interaction effect. Re-parameterized regression models revealed that the interaction between ZNF804A rs1344706 and alcohol problem severity fit to the weak diathesis-stress model (R 2 = 0.15, p < 0.0010), indicating that the T allele carriers are more susceptible to alcohol problem severity, jointly contributing to impulsivity. Conclusions: This study, which analyzed a specific gene-environment interaction, demonstrated that carriers of the T allele of ZNF804A rs1344706 may be more susceptible to alcohol problem severity, correlated with higher levels of impulsivity during withdrawal.

RESUMO

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) over left dorsolateral pre-frontal cortex (DLPFC) in ameliorating negative symptoms and cognitive impairments in patients with chronic schizophrenia. Fifty-two patients with chronic schizophrenia were randomly assigned to two groups: active rTMS group and sham rTMS group, with existing antipsychotic drugs combined 20 sessions of 10 Hz active/sham rTMS over DLPFC (20 min/session, 5 times/week). The PANSS, RBANS, and SCWT were used to evaluate the clinical symptoms and cognitive functions of the patients. Our results indicated significant improvements in clinical symptoms (PANSS total and subscale scores) and cognitive functions (RBANS total and subscale scores, card 1 and card 3 of the SCWT test) (All p <0.05) after 4-week intervention both in active and sham rTMS group. Moreover, the active rTMS group showed more effective on ameliorating negative symptoms (p = 0.002), immediate memory (p = 0.016) and delayed memory (p = 0.047) compared to the sham group. Interestingly, PANSS negative symptom scores was negatively correlated with RBANS language scores in the real stimulation group (p = 0.046). The study found that the high frequency rTMS stimulation over left DLPFC as a supplement to antipsychotics may have potential benefits in improving clinical symptoms and cognitive functions in patients with chronic schizophrenia.

The aim of the study was to investigate the expression of MIP-1 alpha and sclerostin in bone marrow of patients with multiple myeloma (MM), the possible association of the sclerostin and MIP-1 alpha with MBD and the clinical characteristics. 53 patients (29 M, 24 F), median age 64 years was studied. MIP-1 alpha, sclerostin and bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (bALP) levels were quantified using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Sclerostin and MIP-1 alpha mRNA expression was determined by RT-PCR. PTH and 1,25(OH) 2D3 levels were measured with an electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. The sclerostin and MIP-1 alpha concentrations in patients with MM were higher than those in the controls. RT-PCR analysis verified that the bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNCs) of most patients showed sclerostin and MIP-1 alpha mRNA expression. The sclerostin and MIP-1 alpha levels in patients with ISS stage III disease were significantly higher than those in patients with ISS stage II disease (p=0.01 and 0.06). The sclerostin and MIP-1 alpha levels in patients with BMD in group C were significantly higher than those in group A+B. There was positive correlation between sclerostin levels and MIP-1 alpha, beta2-microglobulin and aCa levels. A negative association was seen between sclerostin levels and bALP, HB and ALB levels. The MM patients with high sclerostin levels (>0.72 ng/ml) had significantly shorter median survival than those with low sclerostin levels (≤0.72 ng/ml) (χ(2)=7.574, p=0.006). Our findings support the positive relationship between sclerostin levels and MIP-1alpha levels deserve further detailed research.
