RESUMO
Eating and sleeping behaviour are known to interact with each other, yet research is limited in the context of menopausal women. The aim of this study was to examine whether menopausal status is associated with perceived problems in sleeping. Furthermore, we studied different aspects of eating behaviour as potential risk factors for poor sleep in menopausal women. The present study is exploratory in nature, thus the results should be interpreted as hypothesis-generating. We analysed the sleeping and eating behaviour of 1098 women aged 47-55 years and represented different menopausal statuses with regression analyses. Over 20% of them reported fairly poor or poor perceived sleep quality. A higher number of postmenopausal women reported experiencing at least fairly poor sleep quality compared with the other menopausal groups. However, in regression models controlled for several confounding factors menopausal status was not associated with measures of sleep. Women who reported more snacking-type eating behaviour were more likely to report shorter sleep duration, and more daytime tiredness. Externally cued eating was associated with shorter sleep duration and emotional eating was associated with experiencing daytime tiredness. However, after adjusting for multiple testing, it appears that eating behaviour is associated only with daytime tiredness. Menopausal women with sleeping problems may benefit from nutritional interventions targeting eating behaviour.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the prevalence of overactive bladder (OAB) according to menopausal stages in middle-aged women. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SETTING: Total Healthcare Center in South Korea. POPULATION: Middle-aged Korean women (n=3469, mean age, 49.5 ± 2.9 years). METHODS: Menopausal stages were defined according to the Stages of Reproductive Aging Workshop +10 criteria, and menopausal symptoms were assessed using the Korean version of Menopause-Specific Quality of Life (MENQOL). Logistic regression models were used to estimate prevalence ratios with 95% confidence intervals for OAB according to menopausal stage and to assess the associations with menopausal symptoms. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: OAB symptoms were evaluated using the Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS). RESULTS: The prevalence of OAB increased with menopausal stage; however, the multivariable-adjusted prevalence ratios for women in menopausal transition and postmenopausal stage were insignificant (ptrend = 0.160) compared to those for premenopausal women. Among individual OAB symptoms, the multivariable-adjusted prevalence ratios for nocturia increased with menopausal stage in a dose-response manner (ptrend = 0.005 for 1 time/day; ptrend < 0.001 for ≥2 times/day). The association between menopausal stages and nocturia occurring ≥2 times/day was evident in women without OAB and with relatively high MENQOL scores, vasomotor symptoms and difficulty sleeping. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of OAB, particularly nocturia, increased with menopausal stage, and the association was obvious in women with other menopausal symptoms. This finding underscores the importance of addressing nocturia as a potential menopausal symptom in middle-aged women. Further studies are required to understand the mechanisms linking OAB with menopausal symptoms in middle-aged women.
RESUMO
INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Urinary incontinence (UI) is relatively common among middle-aged and elderly women and can have significant impacts on patients' physiological, psychological, and quality-of-life aspects. A higher level of autonomy can encourage better health behaviors in patients, so as to promote rehabilitation of the disease and improve their quality of life. The study is aimed at exploring the level of autonomy and influencing factors among middle-aged and elderly women with UI. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary hospital in Shenzhen, China. Middle-aged and elderly women were asked to complete the Index of Autonomous Functioning scale (IAF), the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF), and the Urinary Incontinence Quality of Life (I-QOL) scale. Data were collected in January 2024 to March 2024. Descriptive statistics, univariate analysis, bivariate correlation and multivariate linear regression were used to analyze data. RESULTS: A total of 646 women completed the questionnaire. The means and standard deviations (SD) of the IAF section were 45.40 ± 8.92, those of the ICIQ-UI SF section were 11.54 ± 3.67, and those of the I-QOL section were 43.95 ± 9.83. Multivariate linear regression models for the IAF revealed that questionnaire scores were independently associated with family's monthly income, education level, regular exercise, UI severity, and I-QOL score (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The factors influencing the level of autonomy among middle-aged and elderly women with UI include family's monthly income, education level, regular exercise, UI severity, and I-QOL score. Higher levels of autonomy were observed among women with high family income, high education level, regular exercise habits, mild to moderate UI, and high quality of life.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and predictors of poor body image and its influence on low self-esteem and depression in middle-aged women. METHODS: The study was a cross-sectional survey of 372 women using a predesigned online questionnaire. Main outcome measures were mean scores on the nine-point body image scale (BIS) and prevalence of poor body image (BIS ≥ 10). Significant sociodemographic, physical and mental health predictors of BIS ≥ 10 were established using logistic regression analysis. Correlation of body image with self-esteem, assessed by Rosenberg's self-esteem scale, and depression, assessed by Beck's Depression Inventory, was established using Pearson's correlation coefficient and the odds ratios were determined using logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: The mean scores obtained for body image were 5.52 (standard deviation 4.82) and the prevalence of BIS ≥ 10 was 17.4%. Significant predictors of poor body image were education status (0.59, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.39-0.89), body mass index (2.26, 95% CI = 1.12-4.55), social support structure (0.35, 95% CI = 0.16-0.79), diagnosis of mental illness (3.74, 95% CI = 1.31-10.66) and perception of menopause (positive vs. negative: 0.20, 95% CI = 0.07-0.55). Body image scores correlated with self-esteem (r = -0.46; 95% CI = -0.54 to -0.38) and depression (r = 0.59; 95% CI = 0.52-0.65). BIS ≥ 10 significantly increased the odds of low self-esteem (5.71; 95% CI = 2.66-12.26) and depression (11.25; 95% CI = 4.9-27.7). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of poor body image in middle-aged women was 17.4%. This strongly correlated with low self-esteem and depression. A lower education status, higher body mass index, a negative perception of menopause, poor social support structure and a history of mental health diagnosis increased the odds of poor body image prevalence in middle-aged women.

INTRODUCTION: Female sexual dysfunction is very common, but its determinants remain under-investigated. Vasculogenic impairments are suggested to be related to female sexual dysfunction, but previous literature regarding the association is scarce. This study aims to study the association between arterial health and female sexual function in women in their 60s. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The sample for this cross-sectional study comprised 117 women (aged 60-64 years) who participated in the Finnish Retirement and Aging study. Arterial health was measured according to the participants' pulse wave velocity, ankle-brachial index, blood pressure, and pulse pressure. Sexual function was measured using the Female Sexual Function Index, which resulted in a total score and six sub-scores. Associations were examined using multivariable regression analyses, which were adjusted for age, relationship happiness, systemic menopausal hormone therapy and/or local estrogen, smoking, alcohol risk use, body mass index, and depressive symptoms. RESULTS: Higher diastolic blood pressure was associated with a higher total Female Sexual Function Index score (ß = 0.24, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.07-0.41) and with higher desire (ß = 0.02, 95% CI 0.01-0.04), arousal (ß = 0.04, 95% CI 0.01-0.08), lubrication (ß = 0.04, 95% CI 0.002-0.08), satisfaction (ß = 0.03, 95% CI 0.003-0.05), and pain (ß = 0.06, 95% CI 0.02-0.10) sub-scores. Also, higher ankle-brachial index was associated with higher satisfaction sub-score (ß = 2.10, 95% CI 0.44-3.73) and lower pulse pressure was associated with higher orgasm sub-score (ß = 0.03, 95% CI 0.0002-0.06). Other associations between ankle-brachial index and Female Sexual Function Index scores were statistically insignificant, but considering the magnitude the findings may imply clinical significance. Systolic blood pressure and pulse wave velocity were not associated with sexual function. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggested a plausible association between higher diastolic blood pressure and female sexual function, but considering clinical significance our findings suggest an association between higher ankle-brachial index and good sexual function in women in their 60s.

BACKGROUND: Chronic stress and diseases occur more frequently in middle-aged compared to younger women and this is often the result of physical, psychological and socio-economic changes. These health consequences reduce lower body muscle mass and flexibility, leading to generalized impairments in functional movement and balance. Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) training using the inertial load of water is known for its positive impact on functional strength improvement and muscle stabilization. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the effect of DNS training using inertial water loads on functional movement and postural sway in middle-aged women. METHOD: A sample of 24 middle-aged women participated in the study and were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group, n = 12 (age: 58.33 ± 1.48 yrs, height: 162.16 ± 1.27 cm, weight: 61.77 ± 2.21 kg) and control group, n = 12 (age: 59.58 ± 1.13 yrs, height: 160.1 ± 1.13 cm, weight: 57.51 ± 1.12 kg). Center of Pressure (COP), moving distance, Root Mean Square (RMS), movement area and Functional Movement Screen (FMS) were conducted and analyzed pre- and post-examination. Participants engaged in the DNS training regimen, which utilized the inertial load of water, for 60 min each session, conducted twice weekly for 12 weeks. RESULTS: There were significant differences in the COP distance (p < 0.001), RMS (p < 0.05), COP area and FMS test (p < 0.001) in the pre-post comparison of each group. And significant differences were found in COP distance (p < 0.05), RMS (p < 0.05), COP area (p < 0.05) and FMS test (p < 0.05) between groups. The DNS training improved the dynamic stability of single-leg standing, torso stability and functional movement in middle-aged women. CONCLUSION: DNS training programs using the inertial load of water have been shown to be effective in movement improvement and posture retention ability, which is beneficial for functional movement, equilibrium strategy, and dynamic stability of middle-aged women. Furthermore, the DNS training method designed in this study can be useful for trainees who require posture correction in a safe and effective way regardless of their age and gender.

BACKGROUND: Women at middle age are puzzled by a series of menopausal disturbances, can be distressing and considerably affect the personal, social and work lives. We aim to estimate the global prevalence of nineteen menopausal symptoms among middle-aged women by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: Comprehensive search was performed in multiple databases from January, 2000 to March, 2023 for relevant studies. Random-effect model with double-arcsine transformation was used for data analysis. RESULTS: A total of 321 studies comprised of 482,067 middle-aged women were included for further analysis. We found varied prevalence of menopausal symptoms, with the highest prevalence of joint and muscular discomfort (65.43%, 95% CI 62.51-68.29) and lowest of formication (20.5%, 95% CI 13.44-28.60). Notably, South America shared dramatically high prevalence in a sort of menopausal symptoms including depression and urogenital symptoms. Besides, countries with high incomes (49.72%) had a significantly lower prevalence of hot flashes than those with low (65.93%), lower-middle (54.17%), and upper-middle (54.72%, p < 0.01), while personal factors, such as menopausal stage, had an influence on most menopausal symptoms, particularly in vaginal dryness. Prevalence of vagina dryness in postmenopausal women (44.81%) was 2-fold higher than in premenopausal women (21.16%, p < 0.01). Furthermore, a remarkable distinction was observed between body mass index (BMI) and prevalence of sleep problems, depression, anxiety and urinary problems. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of menopausal symptoms affected by both social and personal factors which calls for attention from general public.

Background and Objectives: This study investigated the links among quality of life, life satisfaction, depression, and aging anxiety in menopausal middle-aged women. The objective was to establish an understanding of how these factors are associated, which would be the foundation for developing programs aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of menopausal women. Materials and Methods: An online survey was administered to 993 middle-aged women, aged 45 to 65, residing in Seoul, Korea. The survey evaluated menopausal quality of life, life satisfaction, depression, and aging anxiety. Additionally, a Process Macro Model 4 was used to assess the links between life satisfaction, depression, menopausal quality of life, and aging anxiety. Results: Aging anxiety in middle-aged women was associated with a lower score on the menopausal quality of life scale (r = 0.37, p < 0.001), lower life satisfaction (r = -0.46, p < 0.001), and higher depression (r = 0.42, p < 0.001). In addition, there was an indirect effect-mediated by depression (95% CI = 0.025, 0.058) and life satisfaction (95% CI = 0.038, 0.064)-between menopausal quality of life and aging anxiety. Conclusions: The present study demonstrated a direct effect of low menopausal quality of life on aging anxiety and a mediating effect of low depression and higher life satisfaction on aging anxiety. These results suggest the need for programs to increase menopausal quality of life, decrease depression and improve life satisfaction to reduce aging anxiety.

BACKGROUND: Resistance training (RT) is effective in counteracting the age- and menopause-related loss of muscle mass (MM) and strength in middle-aged women (40-60 years). Research on RT with free weights is limited in pre- and post-menopausal women. Based on this, a 20-week training intervention was conducted with this population to investigate the effects of systematic RT with free weights on strength capacity and body composition. METHOD: Forty-one healthy women (52.0 ± 3.6 years) participated in this study. After 10-week control phase (no RT, T0-T1) followed by a 10-week intervention phase (T1-T2) with RT twice a week and 6-8 sets of each muscle per week. Subjects were randomly assigned to a low-intensity (50% 1-RM) or moderate-intensity (75% 1-RM) RT group and divided into pre-menopausal and post-menopausal according to their hormone profile. Fat-free mass (FFM), MM, fat mass (FM), muscle thickness (Vastus lateralis (VL), Rectus femoris (RF), Triceps brachii (TB)), grip strength, 1-RM squat and bench press were assessed before and after each phase. Statistical analysis was performed using a linear mixed model to account for fixed (time and group) and random (individual) effects. RESULTS: A total of 31 women successfully completed the study. No injuries occurred during the intervention. Significant increases in 1-RM squat and bench press were observed in all groups. No interaction effect was observed for the strength parameters. In pre-menopausal women, FFM, MM and RF muscle thickness increased significantly, while VL showed a trend. These effects were not present in post-menopausal women regardless of RT intensity. CONCLUSION: RT with free weight is safe and effective for middle-aged women to increase 1-RM. Hypertrophy effects were found exclusively in pre-menopausal women. To achieve hypertrophy and/or body composition changes in post-menopausal women, larger training volumes (> 6-8 sets/muscle per week) are likely required.

BACKGROUND: Menopause is a common practice in women, and it is recognized as a complete pause of menses for more than twelve months. A decrease in sex hormone levels particularly estrogen in the blood is associated with different types of menopausal symptoms. Those symptoms include different psychological, vasomotor, physical, and sexual symptoms. They are among the major public health problems of middle-aged women. Particularly severe forms of menopausal symptoms are bothersome for middle-aged women. However, little is known about the severity status and associated factors of menopausal symptoms among middle-aged women in the study area. OBJECTIVE: The main aim of the present study was to assess the severity of menopausal symptoms and associated factors among middle-aged women residing in Arba Minch DHSS. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Community-based crossectional study was employed. A single population proportion formula was used to determine the sample size. A total of 423 study participants were recruited to conduct the study. A simple random sampling technique was used to employ study participants. Proportional sample size allocation formula was used to allocate study participants in each Kebele of Arba Minch DHSS (demographic and health surveillance site). A menopausal rating scale was used to assess the severity status of Menopausal symptoms. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS version 20. A descriptive analysis was made to describe the Sociodemographic characteristics of the study participants. Moreover, binary and ordinal logistic regressions were used to identify the factors associated with the severity of menopausal symptoms among middle-aged women. On binary logistic regression variables with p-value < 0.25 were eligible for ordinal logistic regression. Variables with a p-value < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. RESULT: The present study revealed that the prevalence of menopausal symptoms was 88.7%. According to the Menopausal rating scale, 91.7% of the study participants were Asymptomatic, 6.6% of them were mild in severity, 1.4% of them were moderate and the remaining 0.23% individuals were severe menopausal symptoms. The most severe menopausal symptom was the sexual problem. The factors that have a significant association with the severity of menopausal symptoms were Age with [AOR = 1.46(95%CI: 1.27-1.64)] and history of chronic disease with [AOR = 2.56(95%CI: 1.78-3.4)] and p < 0.001. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION: Generally, menopausal symptoms among middle-aged women were common. Asymptomatic and mild forms are the dominant severity forms of menopausal symptoms. Age and history of chronic diseases have statistically significant associations with the severity of menopausal symptoms. The ministry of health, researchers, and different stakeholders are recommended to be concerned about this neglected issue.

Inadequate physical activity (PA), unhealthy weight status, prevalence of chronic conditions, and psychosocial distress are common in middle-aged women and are linked to reductions in well-being and quality of life. However, their potential interactive effects, specifically on sexual well-being and menopause-specific quality of life (MENQOL), have not been well characterized in postmenopausal women. PURPOSE: To determine if moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and adiposity (%Fat) influence sexual well-being and MENQOL outcomes, controlling for health status (chronic conditions; medications) and psychosocial well-being (depressive symptoms; perceived stress), in postmenopausal women. Postmenopausal women (n = 68, 58.6 ± 3.4 yr, 80.9 percent married/partnered, 51.5 percent overweight/obese, nonsmoking) were recruited through e-mail advertisements and flyers placed throughout the community. Participants were scheduled for two laboratory visits 7-10 days apart where they were objectively assessed for MVPA with accelerometers (in the interim), adiposity via dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and self-report questionnaires to determine health status, depressive symptoms, perceived stress, sexual well-being, and MENQOL. Lower MVPA and higher %Fat were associated with lower physical domain MENQOL (both r = .27, p < .05); health status and psychosocial well-being were not associated (all p > .05). Hierarchical regression analyses revealed 1) greater number of chronic conditions and medications, and depressive symptoms scores predicted less favorable sexual well-being, independent of MVPA and %Fat (standardized ß range =.22-.56, all p < .05), 2) depression was most consistently associated with MENQOL (models p ≤ .001), and 3) greater adiposity augmented the negative influence of depression on the physical domain of MENQOL (ß = .40. p = .002). CONCLUSIONS: PA may influence sexual well-being and MENQOL indirectly through positive impacts on adiposity, chronic conditions, and depressive symptoms in middle-aged postmenopausal women, a sector of the population often afflicted with compromised sexual well-being.

The present study aimed to determine the effect of lifestyle educational intervention based on the theory of planned behavior on promoting the quality of life of middle-aged women. The present quasi-experimental study examined 80 middle-aged women and randomly divided them into two groups (intervention and control). Data collection tools included the demographic information questionnaire, the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile-II (HPLP-II), the 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12), and the author-developed questionnaire based on constructs of the theory of planned behavior. Data were collected via WhatsApp twice (before and three months after the educational intervention). Five 45-minute training sessions were held for the intervention group and a 60-minute session for a family member regarding physical activity and spiritual growth over two months via WhatsApp. Data were analyzed using SPSS, and the results were considered significant at a statistical level (p < .05). The implementation of the educational intervention significantly increased the mean scores of quality of life, physical activity and spiritual growth, knowledge regarding physical activity and spiritual growth, attitude toward physical activity and spiritual growth, subjective norms toward spiritual growth, perceived behavioral control for physical activity, and behavioral intention to perform physical activity and spiritual growth in the intervention group in comparison with the control group. The educational intervention, which was designed based on constructs of the theory of planned behavior, was influential in promoting the lifestyles and quality of life of middle-aged women. Therefore, it is suggested to use the educational program of the present study in addition to other middle-age health care.

Objectives: Polyphenols, particularly anthocyanins, have received attention in improving health issues during old age, including decline in cognitive function and other health parameters. We aimed to determine the effects of polyphenols-rich tropical fruit TP 3-in-1™ juice towards improving cognitive function, oxidative stress and metabolomics profiles among middle-aged women. Methods: This clinical trial involved 31 subjects with signs of poor cognitive function, as assessed using the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT). They were randomized to receive either TP 3-in-1™ juice (n = 16) or placebo (n = 15). Study subjects consumed 500â ml of beverages for three times per day, three days per week, for a period of ten weeks. Juice supplementation provided 9135â mg GAE of total phenolic content and 194.1â mg cyanidin-3-glucoside of total anthocyanin monomer. Results: There was a significant interaction effects on RAVLT immediate recall (p < 0.05) and Comprehensive Trail Making Test (CTMT) Trail 4 (p < 0.05). Metabolomics analysis showed the presence of metabolites related to polyphenols intake and cognitive functions with the intervention group showed increased urinary excretion of thyroxine and 3-methyladenine. Thyroxine and 3-methyladenine give stability to human transthyretin (TTR) and activate autophagy, respectively, which are associated with the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Conclusion: The result shows the potential of TP 3-in-1™ juice which is rich in anthocyanins in improving cognitive function, particularly learning, memory, processing speed, sequencing, mental flexibility and visual-motor skills domains, among middle-aged women.

BACKGROUND: Physical inactivity is a global health problem which is more prevalent among women. Among different age groups, middle-aged women are more vulnerable to physical inactivity as one of consequences of menopause. This study aimed to compare the effect of text messaging and that of mobile social networking on the improvement of physical activity and anthropometric indices of middle-aged women in Iran. METHODS: This was a randomized controlled trial in which 110 overweight or obese women who were physically inactive were recruited and allocated into two groups of text messaging (n = 55) or mobile social networking (n = 55). Women in both groups received information regarding the necessity, benefits, and barriers of physical activity and how to overcome these barriers for 12 weeks. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and a demographic questionnaire were used to collect data. Anthropometric indices including weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist/hip ratio, and body fat percentage were measured at baseline, as well as 4, 8, and 12 weeks after intervention. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, Chi-square, and repeated measure test. RESULTS: In the mobile social networking group, most women had moderate physical activity after 12 weeks (P < 0.05). The mean physical activity and energy expenditure were significantly higher in the mobile social group than those in the text messaging. In the 12th week of intervention, there was a significant reduction in the weight and BMI of the participants in the mobile social networking group compared to the text messaging group (P < 0.05). The waist and hip circumferences of women in the mobile social networking group reduced significantly after 12 weeks of intervention in comparison to the text messaging group (P = 0.001). The two groups did not show any significant difference regarding waist/hip ratio. While the body fat percentage was reduced in the mobile social networking group in the 4th, 8th, and 12th week of intervention, the differences between the two groups was not significant. CONCLUSION: Both text messaging and mobile social networking were effective in promoting physical activity and reducing anthropometric indices except for waist/hip ratio and body fat percentages, but the effect of mobile social networking was more pronounced. Thus, mobile social networking is recommended for promoting physical activity among middle-aged women.

The study aimed to apply the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to understand middle-aged women's behavior of physical activity (PA). We recruited 185 women between 45 and 64 years (mean: 53.2 ± 5.6) for this cross-sectional study. Participants complete demographic data and an exercise behavior questionnaire including attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control (PBC), and intention. Means, frequencies, and t-tests were used. To test TPB, we used structural equation modeling. Fit indices for this model demonstrate a good fit: chi-square and degree of freedom ratio X2/df = 2.14 (p = .34), goodness of fit =.97, comparative fit index =.99, root mean square error of approximation =.019, and Akaike information criterion = 28.14. Significant positive correlations between subjective norms and intention (ß=.18, p < .05) and between PBC and intention (ß=.48, p < .01). Women believed that close family and friends promoted their intention to perform PA. Increased PBC would positively enhance their intention. Findings showed that PBC was the strongest predictor. Enhancing women's PBC over their PA can improve their intention. Future researchers are encouraged to examine the barriers to and benefits of improving PBC so that a useful and effective intervention can be designed to promote PA.

PURPOSE: Evidence suggests loss of control over eating may be the driving component of binge eating, a transdiagnostic symptom of eating disorders and highly comorbid with depressive symptoms. Prior studies have evaluated eating disorder and depressive symptoms across types of binge episodes among adolescent and young adult samples, yet no studies have focused on middle-aged women who may be particularly vulnerable to both binge eating and depressive symptoms. The goal of this study was to compare eating disorder symptoms and depressive symptoms across different types of binge eating episodes among middle-aged women. METHODS: Women (N = 347), ages 40-63, completed an online survey about both objective (OBE) and subjective binge episodes (SBE), eating disorder symptoms, and depressive symptoms. Participants were categorized as OBEs only, SBEs only, both OBEs and SBEs, and no binge eating. RESULTS: Controlling for group differences, results showed middle-aged women who experienced SBEs only reported greater levels of anorexia nervosa attitudes and behaviors compared to all other groups, and greater dietary restraint compared to those who experienced only OBEs and those with no binge eating. Middle-aged women who experienced any type of binge eating reported greater levels of body image concerns and depressive symptoms compared to those who reported no binge eating. CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest that loss of control is more clinically relevant in terms of associations with eating disorder and depressive symptoms in middle-aged women. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level V based on descriptive studies.

Empirical literature exploring the reproductive health experiences of middle-aged women is limited. Little is known about their experiences and decision-making processes related to reproductive health. The purpose of the Reproductive Health Seeking (RHS) study was to expand the understanding of reproductive health knowledge and influences impacting health decisions for middle-aged women. Thirty women aged 45-64 participated in semi-structured interviews and a focus group. Results highlighted a variety of experiences related to reproductive health including women's perceptions of reproductive health-related cancers, community resources for reproductive-related health education, and factors that influence reproductive health and healthcare seeking behavior. Results demonstrated that women are impacted by their conversations with family and friends, seek information through a variety of channels, and are calling for more information on a variety of reproductive health-related issues outside of breast cancer campaigns.

This study aimed to examine the relationship between menopausal symptoms and perceived stress in middle-aged women during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this cross-sectional study, data were collected online from 239 middle-aged women using the Personal Information Form, Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and Perceived Stress Scale-14 (PSS-14). A positive correlation was found between the total MRS score and the total PSS-14 score. The COVID-19 pandemic usually restrict access to healthcare visit. The COVID-19 pandemic has created an urgent need to implement specific menopausal programs to promote the psychological health of middle-aged women and reduce stress during this or similar crises.

RESEARCH QUESTION: Is natural cycle IVF treatment beneficial to middle-aged women with poor ovarian response? DESIGN: Retrospective investigation of outcomes in women aged 45 years and older, who underwent natural cycle IVF treatment between 2009 and 2018 in a single assisted reproduction clinic with the aim of reporting several successful outcomes. RESULTS: In total, 2408 IVF retrievals in women aged 45 years and older were included in this study. Mean serum FSH level on day 3 was 21.4 ± 12.5 (range: 0.3-93.7) IU/ml. One fresh cleavage-stage embryo was transferred in 37.4% (900/2408) of the initiated cycles. The overall clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate per fresh embryo transfer were 2.8% (25/900) and 0.8% (7/900), respectively. Natural cycle IVF treatment led to seven successful deliveries during the period. All seven women who successfully delivered were poor ovarian responders who met the diagnostic Bologna criteria and, among them, three had elevated serum FSH levels on day 3 (range: 39.0-47.1 mIU/ml). All seven had full-term delivery, and no congenital abnormalities were observed in their infants. No significant difference was found in serum FSH level on day 3 between those with and without positive beta-HCG test results. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that natural cycle IVF treatment could be an option for older poor responders in countries that do not permit egg donation. Careful counselling is required, however, because of the low probability of live births after IVF in middle-aged women.

BACKGROUND: Regular physical activity has important health benefits for women. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of theory-based educational interventions on the improvement of physical activities of middle-aged women. METHODS: This experimental study was conducted on 160 middle-aged women referred to Ahwaz health centers Iran in 2017 who were selected through the cluster sampling method. They were randomly divided into two groups: intervention (n = 80) and control (n = 80). The educational intervention for the experimental group consisted of 4 consultation and 4 follow-up sessions. The study outcomes included physical activity change, self-efficacy, decision-making balance, and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, which were measured before the intervention and 2 months after that. The data were analyzed using the SPSS19 software as well as the Chi-square, independent t-test and paired t-test. RESULTS: After the intervention, the mean scores of preparedness for change, decision-making balance, perceived self-efficacy, pre-thinking, thinking, preparation, practice and maintenance were significantly different in both the experimental and control groups (P value < 0.05). The t-test showed that after the educational intervention, the mean score of physical activity was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group (726.3 ± 201.6 and 339.8 ± 90.2, respectively) (P value < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The findings of this study showed that the theory-based educational intervention was effective on the improvement of the middle-aged women's physical activities. Therefore, it is suggested that a theory-based educational program be designed and implemented in order to increase the physical activities of this group.
