El término tercera edad es un término antrópico-social, que hace referencia a la población de personas mayores no necesariamente jubiladas, normalmente de 65 o más años. Se efectuó la caracterización de los resultados de la rehabilitación visual en 70 pacientes atendidos en la consulta de baja visión del Hospital Dr Ernesto Guevara de la Serna de la provincia de Las Tunas; realizando un estudio descriptivo, donde se analizó el comportamiento de las variables estudiadas y se determinaron las principales causas de baja visión, el objetivo más deseado y logrado por los pacientes, así como, las ayudas ópticas más utilizadas y los resultados alcanzados en la rehabilitación visual. Los datos se recogieron en un cuestionario y se procesaron mediante una base de datos en Excel. El resultado arrojó que el sexofemenino predominó, que el mayor grupo de edad fue de 60 a 69 años, que la degeneración macular relacionada con la edad fue la afección oftalmológica más frecuente y que la mayoría de los pacientes lograron el objetivo o meta propuesta, que fue la rehabilitación visual (AU)
The third age is an anthrop-social term that makes reference to elderly people, of about 65 years of age, not necessarily retired. A characterization of the results of the visual rehabilitation of seventy (70) patients that were assisted in the low visionconsultation office in Dr Ernesto Guevara de la Serna Hospital was carried out, accomplishing a descriptive study in which the manifestation of the studied variables was analyzed, and the main causes of low vision were determined, which were the objectives most desired and achieved by the patients, as well as the most commonly used optic help and the results obtained in the visual rehabilitation. The information was collected by means of a questionnaire and it was processed by means of an Excel data base. In the results, it can be observed that females prevailed, and the age group varied from 60 to 69 years old, being the age-related Macular Degeneration the most frequent ophthalmologic affection and most of the patients succeeded achieving the goal of visual rehabilitation (AU)
