ABSTRACT
On the basis of a general consideration od seismicity and tectonics, the Panama block is divided into four seismic source zones. The attenuation of observed Modified Mercalli (MM) intensity from 15 earthquake, with epicentral intensity I larger than IV, was studied, fitting the observational data to diferent equation piblished in the seismological. A possible explanation for the differences in spacial attenuation of the seismic hazard at different distancces from the spicentre, of the MM intensy within the Panama block, is that the younger structure of the crust in the Panama Fracture Zone (PEZ) and the Panama Deformed Belt (PDB) contributes substantially to the absorption of seismic waves (AU)
