Visibilidade das cicatrizes de queimaduras percebida pelos pacientes durante o primeiro ano de reabilitação / Visibility of burns scars in patients perceptions during the first year of rehabilitation
Seventy-one patients were interviewed, 76.1% of whom were male, with a mean age of 35.6 years. The most frequent accident site was the home (56.3%) and the main causal agent was alcohol/inflammable products (64.8%). The mean TBSA was 17.3 ± 12.5%. Among the 4th, 6th, 9th and 12th month after discharge, the interviewees who referred to their scars as visible showed significant results for dressing habit changes (p<0.00), superior limbburns (p<0.00), head/faceburns (p<0.03) and TBSA higher than 20%(p<0.03).
Conclusions:
The TBSA, burns in more exposed body regions and changes in dressing habits are related to the perceived visibility of scars by burns victims.
