The purpose of this study was to describe the stress experienced and coping approaches exhibited by Jordanian parents of children recently diagnosed with leukemia.This cross-sectional study collected data from parents of children who had been diagnosed with leukemia within the previous three months (N = 130; 57 fathers (43.8%) and 73 mothers (56.2%), age (Mean = 37.5, SD = 8.4)). The Parenting Stress Index-Short Form was used. Similarly, parents' coping approaches were assessed with the Coping Health Inventory for Parents.Parents' mean total stress and coping strategies scores were 108 (± 26.8) and 93.9 (± 15.6), respectively. There were significant negative relationships between parents' stress levels and age (r = -0.46, p = .01), education level (f = 28.5, p < .05), and income (r = -0.65, p = .01). Additionally, there were significant positive relationships between parents' coping strategies and age (r = 0.34, p = .01) and income (r = 0.53, p < .01). There were non-significant differences between fathers' and mothers' stress levels and coping strategies.Parents of children with leukemia experienced high stress. The findings also confirmed the negative relationship between parents' stress, age, education level, and income; and the positive relationship between parents' coping strategies, age, and income.Several strategies are needed to manage said stress; for example, respite care for parents who spend long hours at the hospital. Volunteers to care for children at home or hospital might also relieve parents' stress.

Background and Objective: Ovarian cancer is a leading cause of death in females. Since its treatment is challenging and causes severe side effects, novel therapies are urgently needed. One of the potential enzymes implicated in the progression of cancers is Cytochrome 4Z1 (CYP4Z1). Its expression in ovarian cancer remains unknown. Therefore, the current study aims to assess CYP4Z1 expression in different subtypes of ovarian cancers. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to characterize CYP4Z1 expression in 192 cases of ovarian cancers along with eight normal ovarian tissues. The enzyme's association with various clinicopathological characteristics and survival was determined. Results: CYP4Z1 was strongly expressed in 79% of ovarian cancers, compared to negative expression in normal ovarian samples. Importantly, significantly high CYP4Z1 expres-sion was determined in patients with advanced-stage cancer and a high depth of invasion (p < 0.05). Surprisingly, CYP4Z1 expression was significantly associated with a low patient survival rate. Univariate analysis revealed that patient survival was strongly associated with CYP4Z1 expression, tumor stage, depth of invasion, and lymph node metastasis (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that only CYP4Z1 expression was significantly associated with patient survival (p < 0.05). Conclusions: CYP4Z1 expression is correlated with shorter patient survival and has been identified as an independent indicator of a poor prognosis for ovarian cancer patients.

Background: For disease management, numerous drugs are prescribed. However, long-term treatment adherence is still unsatisfactory. Culture influences beliefs regarding medication, particularly irrational ideas that affect treatment adherence. The Middle East, notably Jordan, is affected by a lack of awareness of these attitudes with regard to treatment adherence. Objective: Investigating the adherence level among patients with chronic diseases in southern Jordan. To determine whether certain demographic traits, different disease factors, and superstitions have any impact on treatment adherence. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study that assessed treatment adherence and superstitious thinking-related health issues were conducted among chronic disease patients who had reviewed intrinsic medicine clinics at the Karak governmental hospital. Results: For 314 participants, treatment adherence was categorized into three levels low-adherent patients made up 27.7% highly-adherent patients made up 49.4%, and the remaining adhered at a medium level. Treatment non-adherence was more common in the elderly and female, according to the chi-square analysis. Additionally, the classification of superstitious beliefs into three categories revealed that different percentages of the study population held low superstitious beliefs 21%, medium superstitions 54.1% and high superstitions 24.8% beliefs. The chi-square analysis revealed that the elderly, female, and low-educated patient groups were the highest in superstitious thinking. Multiple regression analysis revealed that educational level and superstitious thinking explained 0.223 of the treatment adherence variances. Treatment adherence is positively influenced by educational level ß (0.244) value, but superstitious thinking is negatively influenced by ß (-0.302) value. Conclusion: In conclusion, about half of the participants highly adhered. The results of the multiple-regression analysis indicate that superstition and education were two variables that impacted treatment adherence in this study. While superstitious beliefs lead to lower treatment adherence, education has the opposite effect. Finally, it is recommended to promote patient education to reduce superstitious beliefs, improve medication adherence.

Objectives: Influenza is a frequent infectious disease that can be prevented and is associated with significant mortality and morbidity. The most economical way to prevent influenza is through vaccination, although this method is not widely used. This study aimed to assess the seasonal influenza vaccination rates and the knowledge and attitudes of Jordanian adults with chronic illnesses toward the influenza vaccine. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional design was employed. A 26-item online survey was used to gather data about patients' knowledge of and attitudes toward the influenza vaccine as well as their status as influenza vaccine recipients. Results: A total of 19% of the 564 study participants received an influenza vaccination. Most (81%) of individuals reported inconsistent vaccination uptake. The most important factor affecting vaccination is the belief that the flu is not a threat (39%) and that their doctors did not advise them about the vaccination (32%). Participants with no health insurance and those with public insurance had a lower level of vaccination than those with private insurance (p= 0.008). Conclusion: The adult population of Jordan with chronic diseases has subpar immunization rates. What is also revealed is a blatant misunderstanding about the value of routine influenza vaccination. These findings emphasize how urgently the public needs to be made aware of the effectiveness of the influenza vaccine.

PURPOSE: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is characterized by high mortality rate, and its clinical management is difficult and complex. Therefore, there is a need for extensive efforts aimed at accelerating the discovery of novel therapies for TNBC. CYP4Z1 has been implicated in the development of breast cancer. The current study aimed at characterizing the expression of CYP4Z1 on TNBC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using immunohistochemistry, CYP4Z1 expression was evaluated on 122 TNBC samples, four samples of breast cancers expressing ER, PR, and HER-2, and four samples of normal breast tissues. The association between the enzyme and various histopathological features and survival of patients were determined. RESULTS: CYP4Z1 was strongly expressed in 83.3% of various histopathological subtypes of TNBC, when compared to negative expression in normal breast tissues. Interestingly, there were marked variations in CYP4Z1 expression with respect to histopathology subtype, histological grade, histological stage and tumor diameter. There was a high incidence of CYP4Z1 expression in patients with advanced grades, late stages and larger tumor sizes. Importantly, CYP4Z1 expression was correlated with the survival of TNBC patients, but it was an independent determinant of the poor prognosis of TNBC (p< 0.05). CONCLUSION: CYP4ZI may be a potential biomarker or target for evolving new CYP4Z1-targeted treatments.

INTRODUCTION: Diagnosis of HIV/AIDS infection can have adverse effects on the individual and may affect health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Numerous studies have previously assessed the HRQoL of persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) globally, but not in Jordan. The aim of the current study is to examine HRQoL among PLWHA residing in Jordan and to evaluate the effect of socio-demographic and disease-related factors on HRQoL. METHODOLOGY: An exploratory approach employing a cross-sectional design was applied. The study applied a semi-structured face-to-face interview followed by administration of self-reported questionnaire using the World Health Organization's Quality of Life HIV brief questionnaire (WHOQOL-HIV-BREF). RESULTS: Results showed that unemployment, low income, non-disclosure status, single status (separated, divorced or widowed), and having comorbidities were connected with poor HRQoL. CONCLUSION: PLWHA require more than just being provided with antiretroviral therapy to rebuild their lives.

Abstract For asthma treatment in children, caregivers need good knowledge and attitudes regarding the disease and its treatment. This study aimed to determine the impact of cultural factors, the level of health education provided to patients and their families, as well as the impact of stigmatization on the treatment awareness of children with asthma in southern Jordan. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of ninety-seven caregivers selected from three hospitals in southern Jordan. Open ended questions were answered after demonstrating the inhaler technique in and evaluated according to the instructions of the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP, 2013). The result revealed moderate knowledge of asthma with a mean score of (22.36/32), as well as moderate knowledge of asthma treatment (24.26/40). A high mean was found for the impact of cultural and environmental factors (22.93/28), whereas low impact was found for stigma with a mean value of (4.73/12). Therefore, to improve future asthma management, additional efforts are required to educate caregivers and improve their asthma awareness and rectify any falsehoods regarding asthma medications by health care providers.

BACKGROUND: Phosphoinositide 3-kinase α (PI3Kα) is an attractive target for anticancer drug design. OBJECTIVES: Target compounds were designed to probe the significance of alcohol and imine moieties tailored on a benzoin scaffold to better understand the structure activity relation (SAR) and improve their biological activity as anticancer compounds. METHODS: Chemical synthesis of the targeted compounds, biological evaluation tests against human colon adenocarcinoma (HCT-116), breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), and breast carcinoma (T47D) cell lines, as well as Glide docking studies were employed in this investigation. RESULTS: A new series of 1,2-diphenylimino ethanol was successfully synthesized and characterized by means of FT-IR, HRMS, NMR, and by elemental analysis. Biological screening revealed that the newly synthesized compounds inhibit PI3Kα activity in human colon adenocarcinoma (HCT-116), breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), and breast carcinoma (T47D) cell lines. Results additionally showed that these compounds exhibit selective antiproliferative activity, induce apoptosis, and suppress the VEGF production. Compounds 2b, 2d, and 2g displayed promising inhibitory activity in HCT-116 suggesting that hydrophobic and/or hydrogen bond-acceptor mediate(s) ligand-receptor interaction on o- and mpositions. Furthermore, compounds 2g, 2i, 2j, and 2h, bearing hydrophobic moiety on m- and pposition, exerted high antiproliferative activity in T47D and MCF-7 cells, whereas compound 2e showed selectivity against T47D and MCF-7. Molecular docking studies against PI3Kα and caspase-3 demonstrated a strong correlation between the predicted binding affinity (ΔGobsd) and IC50 values of prepared compounds for the caspase-3 model, implying that the cellulous inhibitory activity was caspase-3-dependent. Moreover, Glide docking against PI3Kα identified Ser774, Lys802, E849, V851, and Asp933 as key binding residues. CONCLUSION: The series exerted a potential PI3Kα inhibitory activity in human carcinoma cell lines expressing PI3Kα.
