RESUMEN

The results of comprehensive study of clinical, hematological, immunological, and bacteriological parameters in irradiated rats and dogs are presented. There is a growth of the automicroflora with decreases in leukocytes by 30-40%, lysozyme, beta-lysine, phagocytosis, total serum bactericidal activity by 10-20%. The appearance of pathogenic properties and resistance of Escherichia coli to antibiotics was observed with 60-70% reductions in the activity of nonspecific antiinfectious resistance and with 75-85% falls in neutrophils. This causes clinical manifestations of infectious complications. The appearance of hemolytic properties of Escherichia coli promotes the development of hemorrhagic complications at the sites of its natural habitation. The changes found in different periods after irradiation in the hematologic, immunological, and particularly bacteriological parameters may be criteria for predicting infectious complications and using therapeutical features in time.

RESUMEN

The authors presented the results of treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia complicated by cytolysis with the help of an intermittent method of external thoracic lymphatic duct drainage (ETLDD). The method was as follows. A temporary external lymphovenous shunt was created between a siliconized catheter placed surgically in the terminal part of the thoracic lymphatic duct and a subclavicular catheter using a sterile rubber adapter from a drop glass. The use of the method in 7 patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia has shown that this therapeutic approach results in a considerable decrease in the level of peripheral blood leukocytes and substantial improvement of the production of red blood cells and platelets.

RESUMEN

Activities of acid phosphatase and cathepsin D were studied in liver, spleen tissues and in blood serum of Wistar male rats with a body mass of 180-200 g within various periods after total gamma-irradiation using 137Cs (1.9 Gr/min) at doses of 7.5 and 30 Gr. Acid phosphatase was maximally activated in the non-sedimented fraction of spleen within 72 hrs at the dose of 7.5 Gr; activity of cathepsin D was decreased in the fraction and exceeded the control values only within 11 days. Activity of both enzymes was decreased in the fraction of precipitate. In liver tissue the enzymatic activity was only slightly altered at the dose used. The dose of 30 Gr altered the acid phosphatase activity both in spleen and liver tissues; the enzymatic activity was increased in non-sedimented fraction and--decreased in precipitate. In blood serum the acid phosphatase activity increased gradually up to the animal death.

RESUMEN

The authors describe 10 patients with associated diffuse toxic goiter and thrombocytopenic purpura and a female patient with associated goiter and a three-shoot autoimmune peripheral cytopenia. In 8 patients thyrotoxicosis preceded the appearance of thrombocytopenia, in 3 patients, both the conditions were diagnosed at a time. In 4 patients, the measurements were taken of the IgG content on the surface of platelets according to Dixon et al. In 3 patients, the IgG content turned out to be appreciably elevated, in one patient, the content of IgG was within normal, however the latter patient was examined after prednisolone intake that had given rise to an increase in the platelet count. Two patients who received radioactive iodine and three patients treated by thyrostatic drugs were later on subjected to splenectomy. In 4 patients, thrombocytopenic purpura remitted after subtotal strumectomy. One female patient was subjected to sectoral resection of the thyroid. Two years after surgery the patient, who was in an euthyroid state, developed thrombocytopenia which required splenectomy. It is possible that in the latter case there was no direct relation between the two diseases. The relationship between the two autoimmune diseases, diffuse toxic goiter and thrombocytopenic purpura, remained unclear in other 10 cases. The relationship between the diseases under consideration and approaches to specifying the character of such a relationship are under discussion.

RESUMEN

Analysis of 9 cases showed that diagnostic laparotomy is advisable in patients with side-to-side anastomosis of the small intestine who are suffering from chronic posthemorrhagic iron deficiency anemia and in whom the source of bleeding is not identified by methods of clinical examination. Improper techniques of the creation of a side-to-side anastomosis+ lead to the formation of blind pouches with the development of ulcers and erosions on the mucous membrane, which are the source of the bleeding. Resection of the anastomosis and subsequent establishment of an end-to-end anastomosis removes the source of the bleeding and comprises etiopathogenetic treatment of iron deficiency anemia in these patients.

RESUMEN

Blood losses and traumatic stress provoke changes in cellular composition of blood. The greatest blood losses are more frequent in penetrating chest wounds than in penetrating abdominal injuries. A great number of wounded contract leukocytosis which is also more frequent among patients with chest wounds. The lethal cases are definitely more frequent among patients that have no leukocytosis. Immature forms of neutrophils in peripheral blood are more natural for patients with abdominal injuries. More than a half of patients had no eosinophiles in peripheral blood after having been wounded.

RESUMEN

Based upon the investigation of the hemogram, biochemical indices of blood and certain instrumental methods of research in patients with a critical form of obliterating diseases of lower extremity vessels, whose treatment included UVI of auto-blood, the authors have shown pronounced clinical efficiency of the method of treatment resulting in the improvement of theological properties of blood, microcirculation in tissues, less pain syndrome and rapid healing of trophic ulcers against the background of better condition of the patient. The method allowed the time of staying at the hospital to be substantially shortened.

RESUMEN

The article describes results of treatment of 8 patients with diseases of blood system complicated by autoimmune processes with the use of lymphocytopheresis in combination with the ultraviolet irradiation of lymphoplasm for its sterilization before autotransfusion. It was shown that ultraviolet rays (254-330 nm) gave a stable most pronounced lymphoplasm-sterelizing effect in addition to the increased immunosuppressive action due to lymphocytophoresis in the external drainage of the thoracic lymphatic duct.
