RESUMEN

The aim of this study is to characterize the organization of nursing education research groups in Brazil. This is a quantitative, descriptive and documentary study. Census data for 2006 were collected from the CNPq database website. Brazil has 47 education research groups, comprised of 412 researchers, of whom 91% have masters, doctoral or postdoctoral degrees. There are 307 students, of whom 92% are nursing undergraduates. However, only 9% are recipients of young investigator grants. There are also 112 technicians, of whom 75% are nursing professionals; 46% have a masters or doctoral degree. In Brazil, there are a considerable number of nursing education research groups, which contribute significantly to scientific production of nursing knowledge in Latin America. In this scenario, there are many challenges to be overcome: poor interdisciplinary cooperation; limited integration between education and practice; low number of grants awarded to young investigators and significant inequalities between the country's geographic regions in terms of access to research development.

RESUMEN

This study aims to characterize the scientific production of the Research Groups in Nursing Education (RGNE) of the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, in Brazil. This is a documentary quantitative descriptive retrospective research, conducted by searching the CVs of all researchers who are part of the RGNEs in the Lattes database, followed by the search, organization, and evaluation of their scientific production according to Qualis/CAPES. The period studied was from 1995 to 2009 (the last five CAPES triennia) and included articles, books, book chapters, and full papers in conference proceedings. Results show that Rio de Janeiro has the higher number of articles in Nursing Education, highlighting the qualification of researchers at doctorate level. Both states present historic and socio-economic factors that favor scientific development.

RESUMEN

This research aimed to present the profile of production of Nursing Education Research Groups (NERG) scientific and technological production in the South of Brazil. This documentary, quantitative, exploratory-descriptive retrospective research was guided by the active search for products in the Lattes curriculum of previously selected NERG researchers, based on the 2006 Census of the Research Group Directory/CNPq, between 1995 and 2008. The results indicated that the 18 NERG from southern Brazil produced 453 papers in proceedings, 371 book chapters, 206 books, 1,437 scientific articles and 08 technological products, but no patent was registered. NERGs scientific production in the research region has grown progressively over the past 14 years. To strengthen this structure, the establishment of collaborative networks can be used as a strategy, so that political-scientific joint actions in the sector can advance science and technology.

RESUMEN

This is a theoretical reflection that aims to encourage readers to rethink the role of permanent education of health and nursing subjects/workers in the perspective of individual and collective development through transformative praxis. We tried to make a thoughtful articulation about principles of transformative praxis presented by the philosopher Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez with the precepts of permanent education in health and nursing work. This articulation presents an educational concept in favor of the subject-worker's awareness about the distinct contributions of personal, social, relational and institutional arrangements that may result from different ways of perceiving and practicing permanent education in health and nursing work.

RESUMEN

The study purpose is to describe how the Research Groups of Nursing Education (RGNE) are organized in the Southern of Brazil. It's a documental study descriptive and explorative, of qualitative research, with the data collection from the Brazilian National Agency for Science and Technology (CNPq) Groups Directory website 2006 census. The South Region presents 18 RGNE with 173 researchers; most of them have Master and Doctor Degree, working like professor. There are 111 students; most of them are graduating from the nursing course. Nevertheless, we still have a small number of scientific initiation scholarships. There are 27 technicians, who have got masters degree or have taken a specialization and have worked on assistance and teaching working in nursing area. The expressive participation of undergraduate students seems to improve the nursing researcher formation. Therefore, there is a great need to invest in the interdisciplinary process and the teaching-working integration at RGNE.

RESUMEN

As mental health goes beyond the simple absence of mental disorders, this paper characterized mental health components in 89 underground coal miners in southern Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study, that detected a low prevalence of depression; light or moderate anxiety in 13% of the workers; self-perception of good health; life quality and good psychological capacity in most of the participants; poor sleep quality in half of them; reverse correlations between anxiety and life quality, and anxiety and psychological capital; positive correlations between psychological capital and life quality; associations between self-perception of health, time, and sleep quality; associations between anxiety and sleep duration and quality; and between alcohol consumption and location at work (front, rear, or variable). The results suggest vulnerabilities regarding anxiety and sleep quality. However, there is a potential coping of determinants that impact on mental health.

RESUMEN

This paper is a theoretical reflection on the possibilities of Permanent Education at work as a means to care for the caregiver. Educational practices are used to value caregiver's creativity, participation, and autonomy, bearing in mind his/her uniqueness in diversity. It indicates the possibility of education as an act of care, by inter-relating these two actions, and setting up the Educating and Caring process that occurs in the work setting and includes attitudes and responsibilities. The experience of this encounter has an unique meaning for each person involved, and promotes both personal-physical, emotional, technical, scientific and ethical--and institutional transformations.

Abstract Objective: To understand the habits, difficulties and eating strategies of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Method: This is an exploratory and descriptive qualitative research carried out with 14 parents of the Association of Parents and Friends of people with ASD located in a city in the extreme south of Santa Catarina. Data collection took place through a semi-structured interview, using content analysis to treat the information obtained. Results: The data collected indicated three thematic categories, structured respectively: eating habits of children and adolescents with ASD; eating difficulties of children and adolescents with ASD; and eating strategies of children and adolescents with ASD. The study identified that autistic children and adolescents have a considerable consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods, in addition to behaviors related to food refusal, dysphagia, low acceptance of solid foods, binge eating and gastrointestinal symptoms. It was also possible to identify a gap in the knowledge of caregivers related to the sensory aspects of the disorder involved in their children's eating habits. Conclusion: Children and adolescents with ASD have a diversified diet, with a tendency to dysfunctional eating habits, and a significant impairment in sensory activities that make it difficult to obtain and establish a healthy diet.

RESUMEN

This is an essay about care and education in nursing from integrative and converging approaches, elucidating that the dialogical process between the subject who cares and the citizen-subject who is cared must occur in a problem-maker perspective, contextualized and transversalized between the two conceptual worlds that involve the human relations. It shows furthermore that, to the professional exert the care and education, he must use a "passport" that conducts him to different "scales" of knowledge in a creative, aesthetical, ethical, political and technical approach. In which the education empowers the capacity of care and the use of it, capacitates him to intervent in a constructive/reflexive, singular/plural, dynamic/flexible way, in a given historical cultural context of relationships between subjects.

Abstract To analyze the care management mechanisms aimed at students with Special Food Needs (SFN) linked to the Municipal Education Secretariats of the state of Santa Catarina. It is a study of mixed methods, with a concomitant incorporated strategy, carried out with 134 nutritionists who assist students with SFN. A questionnaire sent by electronic mail was used as a data collection instrument, being analyzed through thematic content analysis and descriptive statistics. The results indicated that the medical certificate or report for offering special food was the main supporting document; the public auction was the means of obtaining special foods; food handlers predominated in receiving guidance regarding SFN; lack of products and suppliers was indicated as difficulties, and guarantee of service highlighted as ease in the management of SFN; as for the management characteristics, the absence of a request for a technical sheet (79.9%), special food supply (62%), information material (92.5%) and availability of utensils (63.4%) stand out. The nutritional assistance in cities has different management mechanisms, which meet the needs of students with SFN, but still have some weaknesses that hinder the implementation of comprehensive care.

Abstract This work aims to provoke reflections on the potential of human relations in mental health care by articulating Paulo Freire's educational action and Jürgen Habermas's communicative action, proposing a theoretical construct called "educative-communicative action" for the relationship of social workers with family members and users of Psychosocial Care Centers. The theoretical construct of educational-communicative action emerged from fundamental categories, such as: listening, dialogue, language, culture, horizontality and education. In addition to the categories that emerge from the relation between Habermas and Freire, care can also be added as a fundamental category for the educational-communicative action. From the anti-asylum precepts, the educational-communicative action has the potential to strengthen family and community bonds, as an operative technical intervention of social work. To do this, a potent permanent health education intervention is needed among the social workers in order to strengthen the anti-asylum principles in professional practice, to broaden the historical perspective on the Psychiatric Reform and to encourage a concept of education that is emancipatory and, consequently, anti-asylum, based on the ethical-political project of the profession.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence of tuberculous meningitis in the State of Santa Catarina (SC), Brazil, during the period from 2001 to 2010. METHODS: Ecological, temporal, and descriptive methods were employed using data obtained from the Information System on Disease Notification (Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação). RESULTS: One hundred sixteen reported cases of tuberculous meningitis occurred from 2001 to 2010, corresponding to 1.2% (0.2 cases/100,000 inhabitants) of all meningitis cases reported in SC. There was a predominance of new cases in males, corresponding to 56.9% of new cases (0.2 cases/100,000 inhabitants; males vs. females; p=0.374), in patients aged 20-39 years, corresponding to 52.6% of new cases (0.5 cases/100,000 inhabitants; 20-39 years versus others; p<0.001), and in urban areas, corresponding to 91.4% of new cases (0.2 cases/100,000 inhabitants; urban vs. rural; p=0.003). CONCLUSIONS: The incidence rate of tuberculous meningitis in SC has increased within the last decade, with the most affected population comprising young adult white males with an average education. Thus, tuberculous meningitis remains a serious disease, emphasizing the need for disease prevention with vaccination campaigns against tuberculosis, the development of faster and more accurate diagnostic methods, and the use of current epidemiological knowledge regarding the disease to facilitate the establishment of early treatment.
