RESUMEN

Graphene nanoscroll (GNS) is an important 1D tubular form of graphene-derivative materials, which has garnered widely attention. However, conventional fabrication methods commonly suffer from complex processing and time-consuming. Herein, with graphene oxide (GO) as a precursor, the study puts forward a facile air-plasma synthesis strategy to fabricate 3D graphene nanoscroll-nanosheet aerogels (GSSA). It is demonstrated that without using any chemical additives, a highly efficient reduction-exfoliation-scrolling process can be achieved all-in-one at room temperature within 1 s. The GNSs "grew" from 2D graphene sheets and firmly cross-linked them together, and they not only provide a shortcut path for electron transport but also act as intrinsic spacers to prevent restacking of graphene sheets. When using as an electrode material for capacitive deionization (CDI), GSSA exhibits excellent merits of salt-removal performance. These findings open a new pathway to large-scale synthesis of high-quality and high-purity GNS-based materials with promising applications in CDI and beyond.

RESUMEN

Prostate cancer (PCa) is considered to be the most prevalent malignancy in males worldwide. Abiraterone is a 17α-hydroxylase/C17, 20-lyase (CYP17) inhibitor that has been approved for use in patients with prostate cancer. However, several negative aspects, such as drug resistance, toxicity, and lack of real-time monitoring of treatment responses, could appear with long-term use. Therefore, the development of anticancer agents with specific targeting to avoid side effects is imperative. Here, we used MHI-148, a type of heptamethine cyanine (HC) near-infrared fluorescence dye (NIRF), as a prototype structure to synthesize two theranostic agents, Abi-DZ-1 and Abi-783. The new compound Abi-DZ-1 retained the excellent photophysical characteristics and NIRF imaging property of MHI-148, and it could preferentially accumulate in prostate cancer cells but not in normal prostate epithelial cells via the HIF1α/organic anion-transporting polypeptides axis. NIRF imaging using Abi-DZ-1 selectively identified tumors in mice bearing PCa xenografts. Moreover, Abi-DZ-1 treatment significantly retarded the tumor growth in both a cell-derived xenograft model and a patient-derived tumor xenograft model. This finding demonstrated that Abi-DZ-1 may hold promise as a potential multifunctional theranostic agent for future tumor-targeted imaging and precision therapy. Constructing theranostic agents using the NIRF dye platform holds great promise in accurate therapy and intraoperative navigation.

RESUMEN

Objective To put forward suggestions for improving the scheme of general practice for functional communities from the perspective of supply and demand, guide the efficient use of the resources of general practice by the communities, and incorporate the general practice of communities into hierarchical diagnosis and treatment management. Methods In July 2021,stratified random sampling was employed to conduct the questionnaire surveys of the young and middle-aged (demand side) and the general practitioners (supply side),respectively.SPSS 20.0 was used for data analysis. Results The two sides had the same cognition about the main reasons for not signing a contract with a family doctor, which were the lack of knowledge about general practitioners and the lack of face-to-face communication opportunities. They had the same response about the form of services, with high acceptance of medical services via WeChat, outpatient consultation, and the internet. There were differences in service content between the two sides. The top three demands of the young and middle-aged were appointment registration and referral in superior hospitals, medication guidance, and massage, acupuncture, and moxibustion. The top service self-rated by general practitioners was personalized guidance and report interpretation of physical examination, and the bottom was massage, acupuncture, and moxibustion. Conclusions The general practice varies between the demand and supply sides.General practitioners should be encouraged to enter and learn functional communities and provide personalized services, thus improving the general medical service in functional communities.

RESUMEN

The anharmonicity of phonons in a solid is ultimately rooted in the chemical bonding. However, the direct connection between phonon anharmoncity and chemical bonding is difficult to make experimentally or theoretically, mainly due to their complicated lattice structures. Here, with the help of first-principles calculations, we show that the intrinsically low lattice thermal conductivity (κ) of Bi2O2X (X = S, Se, Te) shows a strong connection to the electrostatic inter-layer coupling. We explain our results by the strong anharmonic chemical bonding between Bi and chalcogen atoms. Additionally, due to the strong anharmonicity, a large portion of phonon modes has a mean free path shorter than the average atomic distance. We employ a recently proposed two-channel model to take into account their contribution to κ.

RESUMEN

Life-long estrogen exposure is one of the major risk factors in the development and progression of breast cancer. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms, by which chronic exposure to estrogen contributes to breast carcinogenesis. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of long-term exposure with 4-hydroxyestradiol (4-OHE2) on acquired cancer characteristics of human mammary epithelial MCF-10A cells. The possible regulators were further studied in chronic 4-OHE2-treated MCF-10A cells. We observed that MCF-10A cells long-term exposed to 4-OHE2 acquire the characteristics of cancer cells, such as enhanced cell growth, EMT properties, and increased migration and invasiveness. Moreover, the expression of CYP1B1 was significantly elevated in long-term 4-OHE2-treated MCF-10A cells. Block of CYP1B1 significantly reduced the cancer cell characteristics in long-term 4-OHE2-treated MCF-10A cells. Our results indicated that 4-OHE2 mediated enhanced cancer cell characteristics in mammary epithelial cells are an important key event for breast carcinogenesis process. CYP1B1 partially contributes to the 4-OHE2 induced cancer cell characteristics in MCF-10A cells. Targeting CYP1B1 might offer a new strategy for the treatment of estrogen-induced breast cancer.

RESUMEN

To investigate the potential neuroprotection of oxymatrine in hypoxic-ischemic injury in rat's brain and the associated underlying mechanisms, modified neurological severity scores (mNSS) for neurological functional deficits, 2,3,5-triphenyl-tetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining for infarct volume, TUNEL assay and flow cytometry analysis for apoptosis were assessed. The expressions of Akt, glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK3ß), phosphorylated Akt (p-Akt), phosphorylated GSK3ß (p-GSK3ß), nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and hemeoxygenase-1 (HO-1) were measured by western blot. Our results showed that infarct volume and the apoptosis of NeuN-positive cells were significantly reduced in rats that administrated oxymatrine, with a corresponding improvement in neurological function after H/I. Upregulated p-Akt, p-GSK3ß, Nrf-2 and HO-1 expressions were observed in response to oxymatrine treatment. Moreover, the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor LY294002 counteracted the protective effect of oxymatrine, evidenced by western blot and histological outcomes. To conclude, our results suggested that oxymatrine could exert efficacious neuroprotective effect against H/I injury by inhibiting apoptosis and oxidative stress, which might be related to the activation of Akt and GSK3ß and modulation of Nrf-2/HO-1 signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

A successful siRNA delivery system is dependent on the development of a good siRNA carrier. Graphene oxide (GO) has gained great attention as a promising nanocarrier in recent years. It has been reported that GO could be used to deliver a series of drugs including synthetic compounds, proteins, antibodies, and genes. Our previous research indicated that functionalized GO could deliver siRNA into tumor cells and induce a gene silencing effect, to follow up the research, in this research, GO-R8/cRGDfV(GRcR) was designed and prepared for VEGF-siRNA delivery as a novel carrier. The Zeta potential and particle size of the new designed GRcR carrier was measured at (29.46 ± 5.32) mV and (135.7 ± 3.3) nm respectively, and after transfection, the VEGF mRNA level and protein expression level were down-regulated by 48.22% (p < 0.01) and 38.3% (p < 0.01) in HeLa cells, respectively. The fluorescent images of the treated BALB/c nude mice revealed that GRcR/VEGF-siRNA could conduct targeted delivery of VEGF-siRNA into tumor tissues and showed a gene silencing effect as well as a tumor growth inhibitory effect (p < 0.01) in vivo. Further studies showed that GRcR/VEGF-siRNA could effectively inhibit angiogenesis by suppressing VEGF expression. Histology and immunohistochemistry studies demonstrated that GRcR/VEGF-siRNA could inhibit tumor tissue growth effectively and have anti-angiogenesis activity, which was the result of VEGF protein downregulation. Both in vitro and in vivo results demonstrated that GRcR/VEGF-siRNA could be used as an ideal nonviral tumor-targeting vector for VEGF-siRNA delivery in gene therapy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFAs) on the apoptosis of thymic and splenic lymphocytes in rats with sepsis. METHODS: A total of 80 female Sprague-Dawley rats aged 7-8 weeks were randomly divided into model group, conventional lipid emulsion group (0.1 g/kg daily), low-dose ω-3 PUFAs group (0.1 g/kg daily), middle-dose ω-3 PUFAs group (0.2 g/kg daily), and high-dose ω-3 PUFAs group (0.3 g/kg daily). Cecal ligation and puncture were used to establish a rat model of sepsis. The treatment groups were then given tail vein injection of lipid emulsion or glucose diluents of ω-3 PUFAs at different doses, and the model group was given glucose injection via the tail vein at the same dose. According to the time of sacrifice, each group was further divided into 24-hour and 72-hour subgroups, with 8 rats in each subgroup. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was used to observe the pathological changes in the thymus and spleen. TUNEL was used to measure the apoptosis rates of thymic and splenic lymphocytes. RESULTS: In the three ω-3 PUFAs groups, the rats had a complete thymic lobular structure and clear structures of the cortex and medulla. In the model and the conventional lipid emulsion groups, the boundaries of the cortex and medulla were unclear and the number of lymphocytes was significantly reduced. In the ω-3 PUFAs groups, the structure of the red and white pulp of the spleen was maintained with the presence of splenic follicles, while in the model and the conventional lipid emulsion groups, the structure of the red and white pulp of the spleen was disordered and splenic follicles were significantly reduced or disappeared. Compared with the model and the conventional lipid emulsion groups, the ω-3 PUFAs groups showed significant reductions in the apoptosis rates of thymic and splenic lymphocytes at 24 and 72 hours (P<0.01). Compared with the low-dose ω-3 PUFAs group, the high-dose ω-3 PUFAs group had significantly reduced apoptosis rates of splenic lymphocytes at 24 and 72 hours (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: ω-3 PUFAs can reduce the apoptosis of thymic and splenic lymphocytes in rats with sepsis in a dose-dependent manner.

RESUMEN

Coherent transition radiation in the terahertz (THz) region with energies of sub-mJ/pulse has been demonstrated by relativistic laser-driven electron beams crossing the solid-vacuum boundary. Targets including mass-limited foils and layered metal-plastic targets are used to verify the radiation mechanism and characterize the radiation properties. Observations of THz emissions as a function of target parameters agree well with the formation-zone and diffraction model of transition radiation. Particle-in-cell simulations also well reproduce the observed characteristics of THz emissions. The present THz transition radiation enables not only a potential tabletop brilliant THz source, but also a novel noninvasive diagnostic for fast electron generation and transport in laser-plasma interactions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding not only meets the nutritional needs of newborn growth and development but also promotes uterine contraction and discharge of lochia, which helps in maternal recovery. However, some mothers experience abnormal lactation and breast swelling due to a lack of breastfeeding knowledge, painful cesarean incisions, anesthesia, negative emotions, and other factors, resulting in a reduced breastfeeding rate, which adversely affects neonatal and maternal health. AIM: To explore the effects of care intervention with a health education form for breastfeeding on breastfeeding-related conditions. METHODS: In this study, 207 mothers with postpartum breast pain and difficulty lactating were selected and divided into intervention and control groups using a random number table. Both groups of mothers were provided with basic nursing and related treatment measures after delivery. The intervention group additionally received care intervention with a health education form for breastfeeding. The scores of lactation volume, breast distension and pain, breastfeeding rate, breastfeeding self-efficacy, treatment effect, and complication rate of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: After treatment, the breast pain score of the intervention group was significantly lower than that of the control group, while the lactation score, score of Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form scale, parent-child communication score, maternal-infant interaction score, total score of maternal-infant communication, and breastfeeding rate of the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group. After intervention, the overall therapeutic effect of the intervention group was better than that of the control group, and the complication rate of the intervention group was lower than that of the control group. CONCLUSION: Breastfeeding health education and nursing intervention combined with basic clinical treatment have good clinical effects in managing postpartum breast distension and pain and increasing lactation yield.

RESUMEN

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the main cause of disability, mental health disorder, and even death, with its incidence and social costs rising steadily. Although different treatment strategies have been developed and tested to mitigate neurological decline, a definitive cure for these conditions remains elusive. Studies have revealed that various neurotrophins represented by the brain-derived neurotrophic factor are the key regulators of neuroinflammation, apoptosis, blood-brain barrier permeability, neurite regeneration, and memory function. These factors are instrumental in alleviating neuroinflammation and promoting neuroregeneration. In addition, neural stem cells (NSC) contribute to nerve repair through inherent neuroprotective and immunomodulatory properties, the release of neurotrophins, the activation of endogenous NSCs, and intercellular signaling. Notably, innovative research proposals are emerging to combine BDNF and NSCs, enabling them to synergistically complement and promote each other in facilitating injury repair and improving neuron differentiation after TBI. In this review, we summarize the mechanism of neurotrophins in promoting neurogenesis and restoring neural function after TBI, comprehensively explore the potential therapeutic effects of various neurotrophins in basic research on TBI, and investigate their interaction with NSCs. This endeavor aims to provide a valuable insight into the clinical treatment and transformation of neurotrophins in TBI, thereby promoting the progress of TBI therapeutics.

RESUMEN

The optoacoustic transducer has emerged as a new candidate for medical ultrasound applications and attracts considerable attention. Optoacoustic diagnosis and treatment sometimes require high-intensity acoustic pressure, which is often accompanied by the problem of laser-induced damage. Addressing the laser-induced damage phenomenon from a theoretical perspective holds paramount importance. In this study, the theoretical model of laser-induced damage of the carbon nanotubes-polydimethylsiloxane (CNT-PDMS) composite optoacoustic transducer is established. It is found that this laser-induced damage belongs to thermal ablation damage. Furthermore, the correctness of this theory can be confirmed by experimental results. Most importantly, when the laser energy density is less than threshold value of laser energy density, the optoacoustic transducer can work stable for long time. These encouraging results demonstrate that this work can provide significant guidance for the exploration and utilization of optoacoustic transducers.

RESUMEN

This study aims to evaluate the association between BMP7 tissue expression and patient prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The expression of BMP7 mRNA in HCC was characterized using real-time PCR and 30 pairs of fresh frozen HCC tissues and corresponding noncancerous tissues. BMP7 protein expression in HCC was confirmed using immunohistochemistry on a tissue microarray chip. Finally, BMP7 expression was correlated with conventional clinicopathological features of HCC and patient outcome. The expression of BMP7 mRNA and protein in HCC cells was much higher than in normal hepatic cells. Our results showed that the high expression of BMP7 in HCC was related to tumor size (p < 0.001), histological differentiation (p = 0.041), serum AFP (p = 0.007), and tumor stage (p < 0.001). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that a high-expression level of BMP7 resulted in a significantly poor prognosis of HCC patients. Multivariate analysis revealed that BMP7 expression level was an independent prognostic parameter for the overall survival rate of HCC patients. These findings provide evidence that a high-expression level of BMP7 serves as a biomarker for poor prognosis for HCC. Thus, we speculate that BMP7 may be a potential target of antiangiogenic therapy for HCC.

RESUMEN

An MEKC method with LIF detection has been developed for the determination of seven neurotransmitter amino acids (NAAs) using 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-8-(N-hydroxysuccinimidyl butyric ester)difluoroboradiaza-S-indacene as the labeling reagent. After derivatization at room temperature for 30 min, the seven target NAAs including glycine, alanine, γ-aminobutyric acid, taurine, glutamine, glutamic acid, and aspartic acid were separated in running buffer, which consisted of 70 mM pH 4.00 H3 PO4 /Na3 PO4 buffer, 5.5 mM cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide and 20% v/v acetonitrile within 17 min. The LODs were 2 ~ 14 × 10(-10) M without interference from other coexisting amino acids. The proposed method has been applied to the analysis of NAAs in the central nervous systems of healthy mice and those with Alzheimer's disease with recoveries of 92-104%.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Selection of the optimal antimicrobial posology in critically ill patients remains a challenge, especially in patients with sepsis who undergo continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). This systematic review aimed to analyze factors that influence the extracorporeal removal of linezolid. METHODS: A comprehensive search was performed to identify studies published up to March 2022 in PubMed, MEDLINE and EMBASE databases. Studies involving adults receiving CRRT and treatment with linezolid were considered eligible if the CRRT setting and linezolid's pharmacokinetic parameters were clearly mentioned. RESULTS: Six out of 110 potentially relevant studies were included. A total of 101 treatments were identified among 97 enrolled patients. Our analysis showed that continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) was the most frequential used modality (52 cases). Despite distribution volume, the clearance (CL) of linezolid in these studies had large variability. Extracorporeal linezolid removal may be markedly impacted by CRRT dose. There is significant between-subject variability in the probability of pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics (PK-PD) target attainment of patients treated with CRRT. CONCLUSION: Dose adjustment, shortening the dosing interval, and continuous infusion were proposed as regimen optimization. Therapeutic drug monitoring is recommended due to the high variability of linezolid exposure among patients with CRRT, specifically for those whose bodyweight is high, renal function is preserved, and the MIC of infection bacteria is above 2 µg/mL.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Mortality rates after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) have significantly decreased in specialized centers. However, postoperative morbidity, particularly delayed gastric emptying (DGE), remains the most frequent complication following PD. AIM: To identify risk factors associated with DGE after the PD procedure. METHODS: In this retrospective, cross-sectional study, clinical data were collected from 114 patients who underwent PD between January 2015 and June 2018. Demographic factors, pre- and perioperative characteristics, and surgical complications were assessed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify risk factors for post-PD DGE. RESULTS: The study included 66 males (57.9%) and 48 females (42.1%), aged 33-83 years (mean: 62.5), with a male-to-female ratio of approximately 1.4:1. There were 63 cases (55.3%) of PD and 51 cases (44.7%) of pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy. Among the 114 patients who underwent PD, 33 (28.9%) developed postoperative DGE. Univariate analysis revealed significant differences in four of the 14 clinical indexes observed: pylorus preservation, retrocolonic anastomosis, postoperative abdominal complications, and early postoperative albumin (ALB). Logistic regression analysis further identified postoperative abdominal complications [odds ratio (OR) = 4.768, P = 0.002], preoperative systemic diseases (OR = 2.516, P = 0.049), and early postoperative ALB (OR = 1.195, P = 0.003) as significant risk factors. CONCLUSION: Postoperative severe abdominal complications, preoperative systemic diseases, and early postoperative ALB are identified as risk factors for post-PD DGE.

RESUMEN

Microbial-derived volatiles are ubiquitous in the environment and actively engaged in bio-communication with other organisms. Recently, some volatile-producing endophytes (VPEs), cryptic fungal symbionts persisting in healthy plant tissues, have attracted great attention due to their strong antibiotic activity or production of carbon chains that are identical to many of those found in petroleum, while other fragrant volatiles can be used in the flavoring industries. From an application-oriented and biotechnological point of view, these findings show significant promise for sustainable development of agriculture, forestry, and industry, especially in the control of fruit postharvest diseases, soil-borne pathogen management, and bio-fuel production. In comparison, the ecological importance of VPEs has only rarely been addressed and warrants further exploration. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge and future directions in this fascinating research field, and also highlight the constraints and progresses towards commercialization of VPEs products.
