BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes skin depigmentation. A cream formulation of ruxolitinib (an inhibitor of Janus kinase 1 and 2) resulted in repigmentation in a phase 2 trial involving adults with vitiligo. METHODS: We conducted two phase 3, double-blind, vehicle-controlled trials (Topical Ruxolitinib Evaluation in Vitiligo Study 1 [TRuE-V1] and 2 [TRuE-V2]) in North America and Europe that involved patients 12 years of age or older who had nonsegmental vitiligo with depigmentation covering 10% or less of total body-surface area. Patients were randomly assigned in a 2:1 ratio to apply 1.5% ruxolitinib cream or vehicle control twice daily for 24 weeks to all vitiligo areas on the face and body, after which all patients could apply 1.5% ruxolitinib cream through week 52. The primary end point was a decrease (improvement) of at least 75% from baseline in the facial Vitiligo Area Scoring Index (F-VASI; range, 0 to 3, with higher scores indicating a greater area of facial depigmentation), or F-VASI75 response, at week 24. There were five key secondary end points, including improved responses on the Vitiligo Noticeability Scale. RESULTS: A total of 674 patients were enrolled, 330 in TRuE-V1 and 344 in TRuE-V2. In TRuE-V1, the percentage of patients with an F-VASI75 response at week 24 was 29.8% in the ruxolitinib-cream group and 7.4% in the vehicle group (relative risk, 4.0; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.9 to 8.4; P<0.001). In TRuE-V2, the percentages were 30.9% and 11.4%, respectively (relative risk, 2.7; 95% CI, 1.5 to 4.9; P<0.001). The results for key secondary end points showed superiority of ruxolitinib cream over vehicle control. Among patients who applied ruxolitinib cream throughout 52 weeks, adverse events occurred in 54.8% in TRuE-V1 and 62.3% in TRuE-V2; the most common adverse events were application-site acne (6.3% and 6.6%, respectively), nasopharyngitis (5.4% and 6.1%), and application-site pruritus (5.4% and 5.3%). CONCLUSIONS: In two phase 3 trials, application of ruxolitinib cream resulted in greater repigmentation of vitiligo lesions than vehicle control through 52 weeks, but it was associated with acne and pruritus at the application site. Larger and longer trials are required to determine the effect and safety of ruxolitinib cream in patients with vitiligo. BACKGROUND: Melasma is a chronic hypermelanosis of the skin that affects approximately 1% of the global population, predominantly affects women, and is more prevalent in skin of color. Melasma is a common driver for patients with skin of color to seek out a dermatologist for treatment, and ensuring the right approach for these patients is important because some treatments may be associated with adverse side effects. Because of the chronicity of the disease and established psychosocial and emotional impacts, there is a large need to ensure care follows the best available evidence on the treatment of patients with melasma. OBJECTIVE: Here, we summarized current available topical treatments for melasma with considerations dermatologists should have for their patients with skin of color. METHODS: Steering committee consensus on clinical best practices. RESULTS: We describe a flexible and focused treatment algorithm that reflects both treatment and maintenance periods that is a consensus of our extensive clinical experience. LIMITATIONS: Use of real-world evidence and potential for individual practice bias. CONCLUSION: Melasma can be challenging to treat, particularly in patients with skin of color, and our recommendations for best practices for patients in the United States are an important step toward standardizing care.

While the majority of American Academy of Dermatology members have some broad awareness of human trafficking, most are not aware of it in their communities or of the skin signs that could prompt identification of those being exploited, and have requested educational resources to assist patients affected by trafficking. The American Academy of Dermatology Ad Hoc Task Force on Dermatologic Resources for the Intervention and Prevention of Human Trafficking has been working to develop relevant resources, including an online toolkit on the American Academy of Dermatology website: https://www.aad.org/member/clinical-quality/clinical-care/human-trafficking.

BACKGROUND: There is no established standard of care for treating central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA), and treatment approaches vary widely. OBJECTIVE: To develop consensus statements regarding the use of various pharmacological therapies in treating adults with CCCA. METHODS: We invited 27 dermatologists with expertise in hair and scalp disorders to participate in a 3-round modified Delphi study between January and March 2023. Statements met strong consensus if 75% of respondents agreed or disagreed. Statements met moderate consensus if 55% or more but less than 75% agreed or disagreed. RESULTS: In round 1, 5 of 33 (15.2%) statements met strong consensus, followed by 9 of 28 (32.1%) in round 2. After the final round 3 meeting, strong consensus was reached for 20 of 70 (28.6%) overall statements. Two statements achieved moderate consensus. LIMITATIONS: This study included only English-speaking, US-based dermatologists and did not consider nonpharmacological therapies. CONCLUSION: Despite varying opinions among dermatologists, consensus was reached for several statements to help clinicians manage CCCA. We also highlight areas that lack expert consensus with the goal of advancing research and therapeutic options for CCCA.

BACKGROUND: Modified Kligman's formula (mKF) is the gold standard treatment for melasma; however, its prolonged use is not recommended due to side effects. Cysteamine is a potent, safe, and effective depigmenting agent. Here, we conducted a double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled clinical trial to assess the efficacy of cysteamine isobionic-amide -- a complex with enhanced depigmenting efficacy -- and compared it to mKF for the treatment of melasma. METHODS: This study involved a total of 80 patients divided into 3 groups: cysteamine-isobionic amide, placebo, or mKF. The modified Melasma Area Severity Index (mMASI) score and spectrophotometric evaluation were conducted at baseline, week 4, week 8, and week 16. Dermatological assessment, patients’ feedback, and satisfaction including quality-of-life scores were also collected. RESULTS: At week 4, cysteamine isobionic-amide and mKF groups showed an equivalent onset of action in terms of mMASI and skin pigmentation contrast reduction. The 2 groups significantly reduced melasma severity and improved the overall skin condition with a comparable efficacy at week 16. Quality of life of melasma patients was significantly improved in the cysteamine isobionic-amide group at week 8 and further at week 16 (P<0.001) compared to the mKF group. Patients’ feedback and satisfaction were higher with the cysteamine isobionic-amide product compared to mKF. CONCLUSION: Cysteamine isobionic-amide provided a rapid onset of action and was as effective as the mKF for the treatment of melasma. The data suggest that cysteamine isobionic-amide could potentially be an acceptable alternative to mKF for the long-term treatment of melasma. BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting melanocytes, resulting in skin depigmentation. Patients with vitiligo often have reduced quality of life and comorbid autoimmune conditions and have reported a lack of available treatments for their vitiligo. OBJECTIVES: The Vitiligo and Life Impact Among International Communities (VALIANT) study is the first global survey to explore the natural history and management of vitiligo from the perspectives of patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs). METHODS: The survey recruited adults (≥ 18 years) diagnosed with vitiligo and HCPs treating patients with vitiligo via an online panel in 17 countries. Patients were queried regarding clinical characteristics and vitiligo treatment. HCPs were queried regarding diagnosis and management of patients with vitiligo. RESULTS: Included in the analysis were 3541 patients and 1203 HCPs. Nearly half (45.2%) of the patients had > 5% affected body surface area; 57.1% reported family history. Patients obtained formal diagnosis after a mean (SD) of 2.4 (4.1) years; 44.9% reported previous misdiagnosis. Many patients (56.7%) reported being told that vitiligo could not be treated; 53.9% of HCPs believed patients who never treated their vitiligo had been told that vitiligo could not be treated. One-quarter of HCPs (26.3%) did not believe that an effective therapy for vitiligo exists; 44.6% of patients reported giving up on finding an effective therapy. Top treatment goals for patients and HCPs, respectively, were reduction or cessation of spread (24.7% and 18.5%) and repigmentation (22.5% and 37.2%). Patient perception of effective care was similar for treatment by dermatologists (66.9%) and primary care HCPs (67.0%). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with vitiligo and HCPs reported similar treatment goals and expressed frustration with the lack of effective therapies. Patients reported high rates of initial misdiagnosis; many ceased seeking healthcare because they perceived that vitiligo could not be treated. The findings highlight the need for earlier diagnosis and improved disease management for vitiligo.

Acne vulgaris can be associated with hyperpigmentation, particularly in individuals with skin of color. This acne-induced macular hyperpigmentation (AMH), also called postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, is often long lasting and negatively impacts quality of life. Large-scale, randomized, controlled clinical trials with regard to the treatment of acne and AMH are lacking. For this reason, evidence-based treatment recommendations cannot be made. However, AMH is a common condition, and it is important for clinicians to have guidance on management strategies. The authors, a group of 10 board-certified dermatologists, conducted a modified Delphi consensus process to reach a consensus on first-line therapy for AMH and determine whether therapeutic choices change in different patient subgroups. We reached a consensus that most patients with acne and AMH should receive early and efficacious acne treatment with a topical retinoid and benzoyl peroxide. Therapies aimed at addressing AMH-including hydroquinone, azelaic acid, chemical peel, or antioxidants-may also be considered for enhancing the effect of the treatment regimen on acne and pigmentation. Chemical peels may be used as adjunctive or second-line therapy. This article details the results of the Delphi process, reviews relevant literature for providing recommendations for AMH, and discusses appropriate treatment options.

BACKGROUND: There has been a significant increase in submissions to scientific journals addressing a broad spectrum of medical and surgical conditions in subjects grouped under the classification of "Skin of Color." Authors, reviewers, and editors have struggled with accurate terminology. OBJECTIVE: To update the Fitzpatrick scale to make it more accurate in stratifying various shades of skin color. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A thorough literature review was performed using PubMed and Embase to assess existing skin color scales, and an extensive internet search was conducted using makeup foundation ranges as a starting point for skin tone matching. RESULTS: The research resulted in a consensus that Fitzpatrick types 4 and 5 ratings were the most confusing in that these included a broad range of skin types with different responses to solar radiation, lasers, surgery, and cosmetic products. The authors reached a consensus that subdividing skin types 4 and 5 into "A" and "B" better defined them. The new scale that resulted was labeled the SCE scale (for Skin Color Ethnicity). CONCLUSION: This new updated SCE scale should assist authors in better reporting scientific data in skin of color.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of vitiligo can be challenging. Up-to-date agreed consensus recommendations on the use of topical and systemic therapies to facilitate the clinical management of vitiligo are currently lacking. OBJECTIVES: To develop internationally agreed-upon expert-based recommendations for the treatment of vitiligo. METHODS: In this consensus statement, a consortium of 42 international vitiligo experts and four patient representatives participated in different online and live meetings to develop a consensus management strategy for vitiligo. At least two vitiligo experts summarized the evidence for different topics included in the algorithms. A survey was then given to a core group of eight experts to resolve the remaining issues. Subsequently, the recommendations were finalized and validated based on further input from the entire group during two live meetings. RESULTS: The recommendations provided summarize the latest evidence regarding the use of topical therapies (steroids, calcineurin inhibitors and Jak-inhibitors) and systemic therapies, including steroids and other systemic immunomodulating or antioxidant agents. The different modalities of phototherapies (NB-UVB, photochemotherapy, excimer devices and home phototherapy), which are often combined with other therapies, are also summarized. Interventional approaches as well as depigmentation strategies are presented for specific indications. Finally, the status of innovative and targeted therapies under development is discussed. CONCLUSIONS: This international consensus statement culminated in expert-based clinical practice recommendations for the treatment of vitiligo. The development of new therapies is ongoing in vitiligo, and this will likely improve the future management of vitiligo, a disease that still has many unmet needs.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of vitiligo can be challenging and depends on several factors such as the subtype, disease activity, vitiligo extent, and treatment goals. Vitiligo usually requires a long-term approach. To improve the management of vitiligo worldwide, a clear and up-to-date guide based on international consensus with uniform stepwise recommendations is needed. OBJECTIVES: To reach an international consensus on the nomenclature and to develop a management algorithm for the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of vitiligo. METHODS: In this consensus statement, a consortium of 42 international vitiligo experts and four patient representatives participated in online and live meetings to develop a consensus management strategy for vitiligo. At least two vitiligo experts summarized the evidence of topics included in the algorithms. A survey was utilized to resolve remaining issues among a core group of eight experts. Subsequently, the unanimous recommendations were finalized and validated based on further input from the entire group during two live meetings. RESULTS: The algorithms highlight the importance of shared decision-making. Dermatologists are encouraged to provide patients with detailed explanations of the prognosis and expected therapeutic outcomes based on clinical examination. The treatment goal should be discussed and clearly emphasized to patients given the different approaches for disease stabilization and repigmentation. The evaluation of disease activity remains a cornerstone in the tailor-made approach to vitiligo patients. CONCLUSIONS: These new treatment algorithms are intended to guide clinical decision-making in clinical practice. Promising novel therapies for vitiligo are on the horizon, further highlighting the need for reliable outcome measurement instruments and greater emphasis on shared decision-making.

BACKGROUND: Malassezin is a natural indole compound produced by the fungus Malassezia furfur and preclinical investigations have demonstrated an ability to suppress melanogenesis. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the histopathological effects of malassezin for treatment of facial hyperpigmentation. METHODS: In this proof-of-concept study, seven subjects with facial hyperpigmentation caused by melasma or photodamage applied topical malassezin twice daily for 14 weeks, followed by eight weeks of observation. At baseline, 2 mm punch biopsies were taken from hyperpigmented areas and adjacent uninvolved skin. Skin biopsies from hyperpigmented areas were repeated at 8, 14, and 22 weeks. Paraffin-embedded sections were cut and stained with H&E, Fontana Masson, and MART 1 and assessed for histopathological changes. RESULTS: Increased epidermal melanin and dermal melanophages were observed in all biopsies at baseline in the hyperpigmented compared to uninvolved skin of all subjects. Eight and 14 week biopsies of involved skin revealed decreased epidermal melanin in all subjects treated with malassezin. Melanocytes appeared less dendritic compared to baseline, and numbers were slightly reduced at eight weeks. Biopsies at 22 weeks showed no significant difference in epidermal melanin levels compared to baseline hyperpigmented skin, and melanocytes were comparable in number and dendricity to baseline. There was no evidence of melanocyte atypia in any of the biopsies. These features were similar in melasma and photo-damaged skin. CONCLUSION: This study documents the histopathological features and ability of malassezin, a novel agent unique to the skin microbiome, to decrease epidermal pigmentation and the temporary and revisable nature of the process. BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disease resulting in skin depigmentation and reduced quality of life. There is no approved treatment for vitiligo repigmentation and current off-label therapies have limited efficacy, emphasising the need for improved treatment options. We investigated the therapeutic potential of ruxolitinib cream in patients with vitiligo and report the efficacy and safety results up to 52 weeks of double-blind treatment. METHODS: We did a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, phase 2 study for adult patients with vitiligo in 26 US hospitals and medical centres in 18 states. Patients with depigmentation of 0·5% or more of their facial body surface area (BSA) and 3% or more of their non-facial BSA were randomly assigned (1:1:1:1:1) by use of an interactive response technology system to receive ruxolitinib cream (1·5% twice daily, 1·5% once daily, 0·5% once daily, or 0·15% once daily) or vehicle (control group) twice daily on lesions constituting 20% or less of their total BSA for 24 weeks. Patients in the control group in addition to patients in the 0·15% once daily group who did not show a 25% or higher improvement from baseline in facial Vitiligo Area Scoring Index (F-VASI) at week 24 were re-randomised to one of three higher ruxolitinib cream doses (0·5% once daily, 1·5% once daily, 1·5% twice daily). Patients in the 0·5% once daily, 1·5% once daily, or 1·5% twice daily groups remained at their original dose up to week 52. Patients, investigators, and the study sponsor (except members of the interim analysis and primary endpoint analysis data monitoring teams) remained masked to treatment assignment throughout the study. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients achieving a 50% or higher improvement from baseline in F-VASI (F-VASI50) at week 24, assessed in the intention-to-treat population. The study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03099304. FINDINGS: Between June 7, 2017, and March 21, 2018, 205 patients were screened for eligibility, 48 were excluded and 157 patients (mean age, 48·3 years [SD 12·9]; 73 [46%] male and 84 [54%] female) were randomly assigned to either an intervention group or the control group. 32 (20%) of 157 were assigned to the control group, 31 (20%) to the 0·15% once daily group, 31 (20%) to the 0·5% once daily group, 30 (19%) to the 1·5% once daily group, and 33 (21%) to the 1·5% twice daily group. F-VASI50 at week 24 was reached by significantly more patients given ruxolitinib cream at 1·5% twice daily (15 [45%] of 33) and 1·5% once daily (15 [50%] of 30) than were treated with vehicle (one [3%] of 32). Four patients had serious treatment-emergent adverse events (one patient in the 1·5% twice daily group developed subdural haematoma; one patient in the 1·5% once daily group had a seizure; one patient in the 0·5% once daily group had coronary artery occlusion; and one patient in the 0·5% once daily group had oesophageal achalasia), all of which were unrelated to study treatment. Application site pruritus was the most common treatment-related adverse event among patients given ruxolitinib cream (one [3%] of 33 in the 1·5% twice daily group; three [10%] of 30 in the 1·5% once daily group; three [10%] of 31 in the 0·5% once daily group; and six [19%] of 31 in the 0·15% once daily group)with three [9%] of 32 patients showing application site pruritis in the control group. Acne was noted as a treatment-related adverse event in 13 (10%) of 125 patients who received ruxolitinib cream and one (3%) of 32 patients who received vehicle cream. All treatment-related adverse events were mild or moderate in severity and similar across treatment groups. INTERPRETATION: Treatment with ruxolitinib cream was associated with substantial repigmentation of vitiligo lesions up to 52 weeks of treatment, and all doses were well tolerated. These data suggest that ruxolitinib cream might be an effective treatment option for patients with vitiligo. FUNDING: Incyte.

BACKGROUND: Limited US clinical data are available on the use of aesthetic products in patients with skin of color (SOC). OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and safety of prabotulinumtoxinA for the treatment of glabellar lines in patients with and without SOC. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Post hoc analyses were performed on the pooled population of all 492 patients treated with 20U prabotulinumtoxinA in the 2 US single-dose Phase III glabellar line clinical studies. Patients were grouped by Fitzpatrick skin Type: IV + V + VI (with SOC) versus I + II + III (without SOC). The primary efficacy end point was the proportion of responders with a ≥1-point improvement from baseline at maximum frown on the 4-point Glabellar Line Scale. Adverse events (AEs) were also summarized. RESULTS: Responder rates among patients with SOC (n = 140) were lower than those without SOC (n = 352), by 5.9% on average across all visits; at no time point were differences statistically significant. At Day 30, responder rates were 94.0% and 96.0%, respectively (p = .401). Headache was the most common treatment-related AE, occurring in 12.1% and 8.2% of patients with and without SOC, respectively. CONCLUSION: A single dose of 20U prabotulinumtoxinA was well tolerated and similar in effectiveness in patients with and without SOC for the treatment of glabellar lines.

Cysteamine is an aminothiol naturally present in cells of the human body as an antioxidant resulting from the degradation of Coenzyme A. Physiologically it is well distributed in mammalian tissues. Highly concentrated in human milk, cysteamine acts as an intrinsic antioxidant and is known for its protective role. Multiple studies now document that cysteamine is a potent skin depigmenting agent. Historically, its rapid oxidation and very offensive odor made it difficult for topical use until recently when stabilization of cysteamine was achieved. This has led to an acceptable galenical form for topical application. Since 2015, the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of stabilized cysteamine (st.Cys) has been demonstrated in multiple clinical studies, as well a case reports. Stabilized cysteamine has demonstrated significant effectiveness for the treatment of melasma by two double-blind randomized and vehicle control trials. Stabilized cysteamine (st.Cys) has shown to be as effective as well-known depigmenting therapies, including triple combination cream or tranexamic acid mesotherapy, with higher tolerability. A recent clinical trial has shown considerable efficacy of topical cysteamine for the treatment of senile lentigines, which are usually considered to be resistant to topical depigmenting agents. Topical stabilized cysteamine can be regarded to as one of the most potent treatments available for hyperpigmentation disorders in humans. Visible light (400-700nm), which contributes to 45% of solar radiation, contributes to skin darkening and worsening of dyschromias, particularly in individuals with Fitzpatrick skin phototypes III and higher. Currently, sunscreens provide limited protection against that spectrum. Due to their capabilities in absorbing, scattering, and reflecting visible light, topical products containing pigments and/or metal oxides can provide additional photoprotection. In this study, the efficacy of two formulations containing iron oxide was evaluated in preventing visible light-induced pigmentation compared with a non-tinted mineral SPF 50+ sunscreen. Expert grading and colorimetry demonstrated that the iron-oxide containing formulations significantly protected against visible light-induced pigmentation compared to untreated skin or mineral SPF 50+ sunscreen in Fitzpatrick IV individuals. These results highlight that iron-oxide containing formulas in a foundation format have dual functions and can provide additional benefits in patients' daily routine by masking existing pigmentation and preventing the development of pigmentation triggered by sunlight exposure, extending protection beyond UV spectrum. BACKGROUND: Juvéderm Vollure XC (VYC-17.5L; Allergan plc, Dublin, Ireland) belongs to a family of hyaluronic acid gels based on the Vycross technology platform. OBJECTIVES: The authors sought to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of Vollure for correction of moderate to severe nasolabial folds (NLFs) over 18 months and after repeat treatment. METHODS: In this prospective, randomized study, patients (N = 123) received initial/touch-up treatment with Vollure in 1 NLF and control filler in the contralateral NLF. Patients received optional repeat treatment with Vollure after month 12, 15, or 18. Assessments included investigator-rated NLF Severity Scale responder rates (≥1-point improvement vs baseline), patient-assessed Appraisal of Nasolabial Folds scale of the FACE-Q questionnaire, and patient satisfaction (11-point scale). RESULTS: Median volume of Vollure injected was 1.7 mL for initial/touch-up treatment combined and 0.6 mL for repeat treatment. The NLF Severity Scale responder rates were 93%, 85%, and 59% at months 6, 9, and 18 after initial/touch-up treatment and increased to 94% at 1 month after repeat treatment. Mean patient-reported FACE-Q scores significantly improved from baseline at all timepoints. Most patients were very satisfied with treatment at all timepoints from day 3 (75%) through month 18 (68%) and at 1 month after repeat treatment (94%). Common injection site responses after initial/touch-up and repeat treatment were firmness, swelling, and tenderness to touch; most were mild/moderate. CONCLUSIONS: Vollure was safe and effective for correction of moderate to severe NLFs, with results lasting 18 months in 59% of NLFs. Repeat treatment required one-third of the injection volume to achieve similar improvement in NLF severity as initial/touch-up treatment.

OBJECTIVES: The 308-nm excimer laser (EL) has been widely used for localized vitiligo. The recently developed Titanium:Sapphire laser, emits a wavelength of 311 nm, would be expected to be as effective as excimer laser in treatment of vitiligo but few controlled trials have been reported. We sought to compare the efficacy and safety of the TSL and EL as vitiligo treatments. METHODS: A randomized controlled non-inferiority trial based on split-body was conducted. Patients with stable vitiligo between June 2016 and May 2017 were enrolled. Paired symmetrical vitiligo lesions were randomized to either the EL or TSL treatment group, and treated with a 308-nm EL or a 311-nm TSL twice weekly for 12 weeks. The extent of repigmentation was assessed every 4 weeks, and the non-inferiority margin was set to 10%. We also recorded any adverse events. RESULTS: Seventy-four paired lesions in 21 patients were assigned to both the EL group or TSL group. The mean difference between two groups (EL minus TSL) was -2.862%, and the 95% confidence interval (-6.531% to 0.807%) was lower than the non-inferiority margin. No serious adverse events were noted in either group. CONCLUSIONS: The Titanium:Sapphire laser showed similar therapeutic effect to excimer laser in localized vitiligo with good safety profiles in this non-inferiority randomized controlled trial. BACKGROUND: Racial/ethnic variations in skin structure and function may contribute to differential manifestations of facial aging in various races/ethnicities. OBJECTIVE: To examine self-assessed differences in facial aging in women by race/ethnicity and Fitzpatrick skin phototypes. METHODS: Women aged 18 to 75 years in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia compared their features against photonumeric rating scales depicting degrees of severity for 10 facial aging characteristics. Impact of race/ethnicity (black, Hispanic, Asian, and Caucasian) and skin phototypes on severity was assessed. RESULTS: In total, 3,267 women completed the study. Black women reported the least severe facial aging; Caucasian women reported the most severe facial aging, with Asian and Hispanic women falling between these groups. Similarly, women with a skin phototype V/VI reported lesser aging severity than women with phototypes I through IV. More than 30% of black women did not report the presence of moderate/severe aging of facial areas until 60 to 79 years; most Hispanics and Asians did not report moderate/severe facial aging until 50 to 69 years and Caucasians, 40 to 59 years. CONCLUSION: In this diverse sample, black women reported less severe aging of facial features compared with Hispanic, Asian, and Caucasian women. These results were supported by Fitzpatrick skin phototype analyses.
