BACKGROUND: Evidence on ustekinumab safety in pregnancy is gradually expanding, but its clearance in the postnatal period is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate ustekinumab concentrations in umbilical cord blood and rates of clearance after birth, as well as how these correlate with maternal drug concentrations, risk of infection, and developmental milestones during the first year of life. METHODS: Pregnant women with inflammatory bowel disease were prospectively recruited from 19 hospitals in Denmark and the Netherlands between 2018 and 2022. Infant infections leading to hospitalization/antibiotics and developmental milestones were assessed. Serum ustekinumab concentrations were measured at delivery and specific time points. Nonlinear regression analysis was applied to estimate clearance. RESULTS: In 78 live-born infants from 76 pregnancies, we observed a low risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes and normal developmental milestones. At birth, the median infant-mother ustekinumab ratio was 2.18 (95% confidence interval, 1.69-2.81). Mean time to infant clearance was 6.7 months (95% confidence interval, 6.1-7.3 months). One in 4 infants at 6 months had an extremely low median concentration of 0.015 µg/mL (range 0.005-0.12 µg/mL). No variation in median ustekinumab concentration was noted between infants with (2.8 [range 0.4-6.9] µg/mL) and without (3.1 [range 0.7-11.0] µg/mL) infections during the first year of life (P = .41). CONCLUSIONS: No adverse signals after intrauterine exposure to ustekinumab were observed with respect to pregnancy outcome, infections, or developmental milestones during the first year of life. Infant ustekinumab concentration was not associated with risk of infections. With the ustekinumab clearance profile, live attenuated vaccination from 6 months of age seems of low risk.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Despite the growing utilization of direct intraoral scanners (IOSs) in dentistry, there is a scarcity of research investigating their accuracy, specifically in post and core. Few studies have conducted comprehensive three-dimensional assessments and comparisons of IOSs with the conventional impression technique, particularly in different post space lengths. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to digitally assess the accuracy of direct intraoral scanner (IOS) impressions for different post space lengths, specifically 6, 8, and 10 mm. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 45 typodont teeth (maxillary central incisors) were selected for this study. The teeth underwent endodontic treatment and were divided into three subgroups, each with 15 teeth, based on the desired post space lengths: 6, 8, and 10 mm. Intraoral scans of all specimens were acquired directly using the CEREC Primescan intraoral scanners by two trained examiners. The obtained scan data were compared with conventional impressions obtained using light and heavy bodies of polyvinyl siloxane (PVS). As a control, the conventional impressions were subsequently scanned using an inEos X5a lab scanner. The accuracy of the digital scans was evaluated in the coronal, middle, and apical thirds using the Geomagic Control X software. Statistical analysis was performed using Bonferroni Post-hoc and One-way ANOVA tests to analyze the data. RESULTS: The overall mean root mean square (RMS) deviations for the different post lengths across the three thirds groups were 58, 81, and 101 µm for the 6, 8, and 10 mm subgroups, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in the accuracy of the coronal and middle thirds among all subgroups (p > 0.5). However, in the apical third, the 10 mm subgroup exhibited a significantly lower accuracy (163 µm) compared to the 6 mm (96 µm) and 8 mm (131 µm) subgroups (p < 0.05). These results suggest that while the accuracy of intraoral scans using direct IOS impressions was consistent in the coronal and middle thirds regardless of the post length, there was a noticeable decrease in accuracy in the apical third, particularly with longer post lengths. CONCLUSION: Considering the limitations of this in vitro study, chairside direct IOS impressions offer a viable and clinically acceptable alternative to the conventional impression technique for post space lengths of 6 and 8 mm. However, as the post space length preparation increases, the accuracy of IOS decreases. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Chairside direct IOS enables expedited and efficient digital impression capture within the root canal, ensuring acceptable accuracy for intracanal post length preparation of up to 8 mm.

The present work focused on the synthesis of novel ZnLaxFe2-xO4 catalysts (x = 0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05) and their utilization for the photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B dye. Structurally, the band gap energy of the catalysts tended to decrease (1.94-1.70 eV) with increasing the amount of La3+ dopant. ZnLa0.05Fe1.95O4 had an average particle size (40 nm), high surface area (41.07 m2 g-1) and large pore volume (0.186 cm3 g-1). Moreover, the effect of doping ratio, reaction time, H2O2 concentration, catalyst loading on the treatment performance of La3+ substituted ZnFe2O4 nanocomposites was investigated. ZnLa0.05Fe1.95O4/H2O2 system exhibited the highest degradation efficiency of 99.5% and nonlinear pseudo first-order kinetic reaction rate (14.8 × 10-3 min-1) in the presence of visible light irradiation. The key role of reactive oxygen species involving â¢O2- and â¢OH radicals was well explained through the scavenger study. A plausible mechanism of the degradation of Rhodamine B dye was also proposed. Due to two advantageous points including high recyclability (up to 4 cycles) and stability, La3+ substituted ZnFe2O4 nanocomposites can be an effective and competitive catalyst for the visible light-driven photodegradation of toxic dyes in the real wastewaters.

BACKGROUND: Raising awareness and educating people regarding practices for skin cancer or melanoma prevention are critical in the context of the adversely increasing effects of global climate change. This study aimed to explore the knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding skin cancer prevention and to determine the associated factors to knowledge, attitudes, and practices among dermatological patients in Vietnam. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 590 dermatological patients between 18 and 82 years of age, who received an examination or treatment from the National Hospital of Dermatology in Hanoi, Vietnam, from September to December 2018. The respondents' attitudes on skin cancer and cancer prevention were assessed via face-to-face interviews with a structured questionnaire conducted by trained interviewers. RESULTS: Of the 590 respondents, the majority of people had correct responses to the question regarding skin cancer knowledge. Among the total participants, 39.8% thought that they were at risk of skin cancer, and 13.8% believed their occupation increased their skin cancer risk. The majority of respondents used hats (94.9%) and sunscreen skin coats (89.5%) and went into the shade (86.3%) when exposed to the sun. Women were less likely to be aware of their skin cancer risk but were more likely to practice prevention behaviors. CONCLUSION: Our results show that dermatological patients have acceptable knowledge towards skin cancer prevention, but still need to change their behavior to prevent the risk of skin cancer. This study highlights the importance of education to raise awareness regarding skin cancer in order to promote practice prevention strategies for skin cancer in Vietnam.

BACKGROUND: Massage as a complementary and alternative therapy has been associated with enhancing health and coping with treatment-related side effects in patients with breast cancer worldwide. This systematic review examined whether massage interventions provide any measurable benefit in breast cancer-related symptoms. METHODS: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were searched for in PubMed, EMBASE.com and the Cochrane Library through June 2013. We evaluated the quality of the studies included by the Cochrane Handbook 5.2 standards and analyzed the data using the Cochrane Collaboration's RevMan 5.2 software. RESULTS: Eighteen RCTs with a total of 950 participants were included. Compared with the control group, our meta-analysis showed that patients receiving regular use of massage had significantly greater reductions in anger and fatigue symptoms. However, there were no significant differences in depression, anxiety, pain, upper limb lymphedema, cortisol and health-related quality of life. CONCLUSIONS: The current evidence demonstrates that there was mild evidence that massage may be a useful intervention in alleviating negative emotions and fatigue in patients with breast cancer. More trials with longer follow-up are needed to determine the exact long-term efficacy of this class of complementary and alternative medicine on breast cancer-related symptoms and quality of life.

Rare earth metal doping spinel ferrites offer excellent electronic, magnetic, and photocatalytic properties, but they have not been well explored for environmental mitigation. Herein, we report the facile fabrication of novel CoNd x Fe2-x O4 (x = 0-0.05) photocatalysts based on Nd3+ incorporated into CoFe2O4 for the degradation of Rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. The Nd3+ dopant considerably increased the specific surface area (35 m2 g-1) and enhanced the degradation performance (94.7%) of CoNd x Fe2-x O4 catalysts. Nd3+-doped CoFe2O4 played a role in the formation of radicals, including ËOH, h+, and ËO2 -. With high recyclability and performance, CoNd0.05Fe1.95O4 nanoparticles can be efficient and reusable photocatalysts for degrading organic dyes, including Rhodamine B from wastewaters.

Methylene blue (MB) is hazardous in natural water because this dye causes serious diseases that endangers public health and ecosystems. Photocatalytic degradation is a prominent technique for achieving the effective elimination of dye pollutants from wastewater and contribute vitally to ecology and environmental safety. Herein, Cu2+-substituted ZnFe2O4 nanomaterials (CuxZn1-xFe2O4; x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.6) were synthesized, characterized, and applied for the photocatalytic degradation of MB dye beneath visible light with the assistance of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The feature of the photo-catalysts was determined by XRD, EDX, FTIR, DRS, BET, SEM, and TEM techniques. Incorporation of Cu2+ ions changed the crystalline phase, particle size, morphology, and surface area. The photocatalysis condition was optimized with the following major factors, the amout of doping Cu2+ ions, H2O2 concentration, adsorbent dosage, and MB concentration. As a result, the photocatalytic MB degradation efficiency by Cu0.6Zn0.4Fe2O4 catalyst was 99.83% within 90 min under LED light (λ ≥ 420 nm), which was around 4 folds higher than that of pure ZnFe2O4. The photo-Fenton kinetics were in accordance with the pseudo-first-order kinetic model (R2 = 0.981), giving the highes rate constant of 0.034 min-1. It can be, therefore, concluded that Cu2+ substitution considerably boosted the photocatalytic activity of CuxZn1-xFe2O4 ZnFe2O4, suggesting a bright prospect of Cu0.6Zn0.4Fe2O4 as a photo-catalyst in the dyes wastewater treatment.

Lumbar disc herniation is among the common phenotypes of degenerative lumbar spine diseases, significantly affecting patients' quality of life. The practice pattern is diverse. Choosing conservative measures or surgical treatments is still controversial in some areas. For those who have failed conservative treatment, surgery with or without instrumentation is recommended, causing significant expenditures and frustrating complications, that should not be ignored. In the article, we performed a literature review and summarized the evidence by subheadings to unravel the cons of surgical intervention for lumbar disc herniation. There are tetrad critical issues about surgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation, i.e., favorable natural history, insufficient evidence in a recommendation of fusion surgery for patients, metallosis, and implant removal. Firstly, accumulating evidence reveals immune privilege and auto-immunity hallmarks of human lumbar discs within the closed niche. Progenitor cells within human discs further expand the capacity with the endogenous repair. Clinical watchful follow-up studies with repeated diagnostic imaging reveal spontaneous resolution for lumbar disc herniation, even calcified tissues. Secondly, emerging evidence indicates long-term complications of lumbar fusion, such as adjacent segment disease, pseudarthrosis, implant failure, and sagittal spinal imbalance, which get increasing attention. Thirdly, systemic and local reactions (metallosis) for metal instrumentation have been noted with long-term health concerns and toxicity. Fourthly, the indications and timing for spinal implant removal have not reached a consensus. Other challenging issues include postoperative lumbar stiffness. The review provided evidence from a negative perspective for surgeons and patients who attempt to choose surgical treatment. Collectively, the emerging underlying evidence questions the benefits of traditional surgery for patients with lumbar disc herniation. Therefore, the long-term effects of surgery should be closely observed. Surgical decisions should be made prudently for each patient.

Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) constitute a rare type of immune cell with multifaceted functions, but their potential use as a cell-based immunotherapy is challenged by the scarce cell numbers that can be extracted from blood. Here, we systematically investigate culture parameters for generating pDCs from hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs). Using optimized conditions combined with implementation of HSPC pre-expansion, we generate an average of 465 million HSPC-derived pDCs (HSPC-pDCs) starting from 100,000 cord blood-derived HSPCs. Furthermore, we demonstrate that such protocol allows HSPC-pDC generation from whole-blood HSPCs, and these cells display a pDC phenotype and function. Using GMP-compliant medium, we observe a remarkable loss of TLR7/9 responses, which is rescued by ascorbic acid supplementation. Ascorbic acid induces transcriptional signatures associated with pDC-specific innate immune pathways, suggesting an undescribed role of ascorbic acid for pDC functionality. This constitutes the first protocol for generating pDCs from whole blood and lays the foundation for investigating HSPC-pDCs for cell-based immunotherapy.

In this study, nanocrystalline ZnNdxFe2-xO4 ferrites with x = 0.0, 0.01, 0.03 and 0.05 were fabricated and used as a catalyst for dye removal potential. The effect of Nd3+ ions substitution on the structural, optical and photo-Fenton activity of ZnNdxFe2-xO4 has been investigated. The addition of Nd3+ ions caused a decrease in the grain size of ferrites, the reduction of the optical bandgap energies and thus could be well exploited for the catalytic study. The photocatalytic activity of the ferrite samples was evaluated by the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) in the presence of H2O2 under visible light radiation. The results indicated that the ZnNdxFe2-xO4 samples exhibited higher removal efficiencies than the pure ZnFe2O4 ferrites. The highest degradation efficiency was 98.00%, attained after 210 min using the ZnNd0.03Fe1.97O4 sample. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the ZnFe2O4 doped with Nd3+ is explained due to the efficient separation mechanism of photoinduced electron and holes. The effect of various factors (H2O2 oxidant concentration and catalyst loading) on the degradation of RhB dye was clarified.

OBJECTIVE: In the fight against COVID-19, vaccination is vital in achieving herd immunity. Many Asian countries are starting to vaccinate frontline workers; however, expedited vaccine development has led to hesitancy among the general population. We evaluated the willingness of healthcare workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. METHODS: From 12 to 21 December 2020, we recruited 1720 healthcare workers from 6 countries: China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Bhutan. The self-administrated survey collected information on willingness to vaccinate, perception of COVID-19, vaccine concerns, COVID-19 risk profile, stigma, pro-socialness scale, and trust in health authorities. RESULTS: More than 95% of the healthcare workers surveyed were willing to vaccinate. These respondents were more likely to perceive the pandemic as severe, consider the vaccine safe, have less financial concerns, less stigmatization regarding the vaccine, higher pro-socialness mindset and trust in health authorities. A high perceived pandemic risk index, low vaccine harm index and high pro-socialness index were independent predictors in multivariable analysis. CONCLUSIONS: The majority of healthcare workers in Asia are willing to receive COVID-19 vaccination. Perceived COVID-19 susceptibility, low potential risk of vaccine harm and pro-socialness are the main drivers. These findings may help formulate vaccination strategies in other countries.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted the economy, livelihood, and physical and mental well-being of people worldwide. This study aimed to compare the mental health status during the pandemic in the general population of seven middle income countries (MICs) in Asia (China, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam). All the countries used the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) to measure mental health. There were 4479 Asians completed the questionnaire with demographic characteristics, physical symptoms and health service utilization, contact history, knowledge and concern, precautionary measure, and rated their mental health with the IES-R and DASS-21. Descriptive statistics, One-Way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and linear regression were used to identify protective and risk factors associated with mental health parameters. There were significant differences in IES-R and DASS-21 scores between 7 MICs (p<0.05). Thailand had all the highest scores of IES-R, DASS-21 stress, anxiety, and depression scores whereas Vietnam had all the lowest scores. The risk factors for adverse mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic include age <30 years, high education background, single and separated status, discrimination by other countries and contact with people with COVID-19 (p<0.05). The protective factors for mental health include male gender, staying with children or more than 6 people in the same household, employment, confidence in doctors, high perceived likelihood of survival, and spending less time on health information (p<0.05). This comparative study among 7 MICs enhanced the understanding of metal health in the general population during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The novel Coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020, impacting the lifestyles, economy, physical and mental health of individuals globally. This study aimed to test the model triggered by physical symptoms resembling COVID-19 infection, in which the need for health information and perceived impact of the pandemic mediated the path sequentially, leading to adverse mental health outcomes. A cross-sectional research design with chain mediation model involving 4612 participants from participating 8 countries selected via a respondent-driven sampling strategy was used. Participants completed online questionnaires on physical symptoms, the need for health information, the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) questionnaire and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). The results showed that Poland and the Philippines were the two countries with the highest levels of anxiety, depression and stress; conversely, Vietnam had the lowest mean scores in these areas. Chain mediation model showed the need for health information, and the perceived impact of the pandemic were sequential mediators between physical symptoms resembling COVID-19 infection (predictor) and consequent mental health status (outcome). Excessive and contradictory health information might increase the perceived impact of the pandemic. Rapid COVID-19 testing should be implemented to minimize the psychological burden associated with physical symptoms, whilst public mental health interventions could target adverse mental outcomes associated with the pandemic.

Tremendous progress has been made over the past three decades in the fight against the HIV epidemic; however, children experienced substantial physical and psychosocial effects of HIV infection. To inform services and policy development, we analyzed research growth and current trends in studies on children with HIV/AIDS. A total of 17,598 research papers and reviews in English, which were published on Web of Science, were downloaded. VOSviewer was used to generate an author keyword cooccurrence network and a network illustrating the connection among countries by shared coauthorships. Exploratory factor analysis was employed to identify research domains emerging from the abstracts' contents. The number of papers and their impacts had grown significantly in the past decade. The majority of study settings were in African countries. Research topics related to HIV in children were robust in areas of prevention of mother-to-child transmission and HIV and comorbidities treatments. Although psychosocial and behavioral disorders were recognized in previous studies, the number of interventions in these fields is still limited or not sustained. This study presents the global research trends and interests, points out research gaps of available publications and suggests several implications for services and intervention programs for children infected with HIV/AIDS. While preventions of mother-to-child transmission have been extensively studied, more efforts should be made to fulfill the lack of research on young people who are at risk of being infected or who are already infected with HIV. System thinking approach is needed in the design and implementation of future studies.

Natural killer cell-enhancing factor (NKEF) may mediate cellular responses to proinflammatory molecules. The liver proteins of Aeromonas hydrophila-infected ayu (Plecoglossus altivelis) and healthy control fish were analyzed by 2DE. A protein, which increased significantly in diseased fish, was identified as NKEF-B by MALDI-TOF-MS. A full-length cDNA clone of this proteinwas subsequently isolated. It contains 1092 bp with an open reading frame of 591 bp, coding for 197 amino acids with MW 21.9 kDa and pI 6.38, values similar to those determined by 2DE. Ayu NKEF-B had highest similarity (93.1% amino acid identity) to those of carp and zebrafish. Phylogenetic analysis showed that ayu NKEF-B falls into the fish NKEF-B cluster and is most closely related to that of carp and zebrafish. It was determined that ayu NKEFB mRNA expression was significantly increased in many tissues at the early stage of bacterial infection. In conclusion, the increased NKEF-B mRNA and protein expression in ayu were closely associated with A. hydrophila infection.

Inverse CeO2-Co3O4/CuO catalysts with chrysanthemum-like morphology were prepared by the co-precipitation method, and characterized via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR), and N2 adsorption-desorption techniques. It is found that the filament is composed of ordered-array CuO nanocrystallites, and CeO2 was dispersed on the outer surface of filament. The CeO2-Co3O4/CuO catalyst with thin filaments can form the long periphery at the CeO2-CuO contact interface and improve catalytic performance. Therefore, the CAT-350 catalyst with the thinnest filaments presents the highest catalytic activity among the as-prepared catalysts.

This study aimed to explore the knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding skin cancer prevention and to determine the associated factors to knowledge, attitudes, and practices among dermatological patients in Vietnam.@*METHODS@#This cross-sectional study included 590 dermatological patients between 18 and 82 years of age, who received an examination or treatment from the National Hospital of Dermatology in Hanoi, Vietnam, from September to December 2018. The respondents' attitudes on skin cancer and cancer prevention were assessed via face-to-face interviews with a structured questionnaire conducted by trained interviewers.@*RESULTS@#Of the 590 respondents, the majority of people had correct responses to the question regarding skin cancer knowledge. Among the total participants, 39.8% thought that they were at risk of skin cancer, and 13.8% believed their occupation increased their skin cancer risk. The majority of respondents used hats (94.9%) and sunscreen skin coats (89.5%) and went into the shade (86.3%) when exposed to the sun. Women were less likely to be aware of their skin cancer risk but were more likely to practice prevention behaviors.@*CONCLUSION@#Our results show that dermatological patients have acceptable knowledge towards skin cancer prevention, but still need to change their behavior to prevent the risk of skin cancer. This study highlights the importance of education to raise awareness regarding skin cancer in order to promote practice prevention strategies for skin cancer in Vietnam.

As the life cycle of ayu spans river, brackish and seawater environments, it would be a suitable fish model for studying the responses to salinity changes in aquatic animals. We investigated the effect of salinity on trunk kidney proteome in ayu (Plecoglossus altivelis) using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry. The proteins involved in the process of energy metabolism, biosynthesis, DNA methylation and cell differentiation were mainly affected, and 10 significantly changed proteins were identified. Our result showed that isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICD), pyruvate dehydrogenase (E1), O-glycosyl hydrolase, mitochondrial precursor of ATP synthase subunit beta, mitochondrial ferrtin (MtF), retinol binding protein (RBP) were down-regulated, whereas aldehyde dehydrogenase, cytokeratin 1, S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase, Cys-Met metabolism PLP-dependent enzyme were up-regulated when ayu transferred from freshwater to brackish water. Partial coding sequences of E1, ICD, MtF and RBP genes were determined, and the effects of salinity on their mRNA expression in ayu trunk kidney were tested by real-time PCR subsequently. Their possible direct or indirect roles in the adaptation of ayu to salinity are discussed.

Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) is the major protein component of high density lipoprotein (HDL) particles in serum and participates in the reverse transport of cholesterol from tissues to the liver for excretion. 2DE gel and protein identification by MALDI-TOF-MS revealed that an apoA-I-like molecule was significantly decreased in the liver of ayu transferred from freshwater (FW) to brackish water (BW). A full-length cDNA clone of this protein was subsequently isolated. It contains 1209 bp with an open reading frame of 825 bp, coding for 275 amino acids with MW 31.1 kDa and pI 5.25. Ayu apoA-I had highest similarity (88.6% amino acid identity) to that of rainbow smelt. Phylogenetic analysis showed that vertebrate apoA-Is formed two major groups, representing mammalian-bird-amphibian (M-A) and fish apoA-Is respectively. Ayu apoA-I was most closely related to rainbow smelt apoA-I. In FW ayu, apoA-I transcripts were present in all tested tissues including brain, spleen, liver, kidney, gill, muscle, heart and intestine, and highest in liver, brain and intestine. In BW ayu, the expression levels of apoA-I gene were significantly decreased and almost totally inhibited in spleen, kidney, gill, heart and muscle. Significant down-regulation of proteins and mRNA in ayu transferred from FW to BW suggests an involvement in hyperosmotic regulation in this species.
