As many as 300 patients of different age groups underwent a probability statistical analysis of cytosis and CSF protein depending on the outcome of bacterial meningoencephalitis. The clinical and CSF interrelations discovered reflect the function of the blood-brain barrier and can be used as an additional test for predicting the disease outcome.

[Clinical picture and differential diagnosis of the hyperkinetic form of multiple sclerosis and hepatocerebral dystrophy]. / K klinike i differentsial'noi diagnostike giperkineticheskoi formy rasseiannogo skleroza i gepatotserebral'noi distrofii.

To try to obviate the difficulties encountered in making the differential diagnosis of the hyperkinetic form of multiple sclerosis (MS) and hepatocerebral dystrophy (HCD), the authors performed a biochemical study characterizing liver function in 27 patients with MS attended by hyperkineses and in 14 patients with HCD. In addition to clinical symptoms, patients with the hyperkinetic form of MS, contrary to those with HCD, had biochemical parameters characterizing the differences of liver function in these diseases. These findings facilitate the differential diagnosis between the hyperkinetic form of MS and HCD.

The authors investigated the quantitative content of a group of metals in the cerebrospinal fluid in 30 patients with bacterial meningoencephalitis with brain edema. It was established that selective permeability of the blood brain barrier has a compensatory character directed to maintenance of the mineral homeostasis of the central nervous system.

[Changes in the immunological reactivity of patients with disseminated sclerosis treated by prednisolone and the preparation Proper-Myl]. / Izmeneniia immunologicheskoi reaktivnosti u bol'nykh rasseiannym sklerozom, lechennykh prednizolonom i preparatom Proper-Mil.

The authors examined 56 patients suffering of multiple sclerosis who were treated with prednisolone and Proper-Myl. The patients showed changes of the immunological reactivity, in particular, those receiving prednisolone in combination with Proper-Myl. To improve the immunological state of these patients the authors recommend to use bee stings, polyosol and bee pollen.

[The effect of prednisolone on the immunoglobulin content of the blood in patients with disseminated sclerosis]. / Vliianie prednizolona na soderzhanie immunoglobulinov v krovi bol'nykh rasseiannym sklerozom.

The authors examined the dynamics of IgA, IgM, IgG in the blood of 100 patients with multiple sclerosis. Of them 50 patients received complex treatment in combination with prednisolone. Comparison of indices of concentration of serum immunoglobulins revealed a distinct reduction of their level of all classes in patients with multiple sclerosis, especially in those receiving prednisolone. Prednisolone produced an unfavourable effect on the course of the demyelinating process in patients with multiple sclerosis.

The authors investigated the incidence of multiple sclerosis in the Carpathian region. It is concluded on the basis of a statistical analysis that the incidence of multiple sclerosis in this region is influenced by environmental factors.

[Disordered lipid peroxidation and ATPase activities in patients with disseminated sclerosis]. / Narushenie perekisnogo okisleniia lipidov i ATF-aznoi aktivnosti u bol'nykh rasseiannym sklerozom.

Changes of ATP-ase activity and accumulation of lipid peroxidation products in patients with multiple sclerosis depended on the clinical course of the disease. Exacerbation is accompanied by an increased activity of Mg2(+)-dependent ATP-ase and reduction of Ca2(+)-dependent ATP-ase in the leucocytes. These changes were not revealed during remission.

The authors examined clinically and immunologically 60 patients with multiple sclerosis. One group (30 patients) received prednisolone in the complex treatment while the second group (30 patients) received only complex treatment. A control group of 20 healthy persons was examined. Patients of the first group showed marked neurological and immunological disorders which is considered as a complication due to the empiric prednisolone doses.
