RESUMEN

The escalating contradiction between global urban development and thermal environments has become increasingly apparent, underscoring the imperative to address social inequality in heat exposure and advocate for environmental justice (EJ) in the pursuit of sustainable urban development. To bridge the research gap in this domain, a comprehensive study was conducted to examine the correlation mechanism linking the thermal environment with the socioeconomic status (SES) of Chinese cities, employing Hangzhou as a representative case-a pivotal city among China's "four fire stoves". The investigation involved analyzing the spatial distribution pattern of diurnal Land Surface Temperature (LST) during the summer months spanning 2016 to 2018 (July to September). For SES characterization, a holistic indicator was established. Community-level LST variables were derived from LST surfaces obtained through the Terra and Aqua satellite MODIS sensors, with the community serving as the fundamental unit of analysis. The relationship between SES and LST was explored using random forest regression (RF), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and support vector regression (SVR) to assess socioeconomic inequality in urban heat. The findings reveal that (1) RF exhibits the highest fitting accuracy and adeptly elucidates the nonlinear relationship and marginal effects between LST variables and SES. (2) Community SES in the Hangzhou metropolitan area exhibits spatial clustering. (3) Residents of low and middle SES communities experience heightened heat inequality. (4) A complex nonlinear relationship exists between daytime and nighttime LST and SES, with significant social disparities in urban heat within specific temperature thresholds. When deciding on measures to advance thermal environmental justice, it is crucial to prioritize both relatively disadvantaged groups and specific temperature intervals. This study departs from conventional approaches, exploring the nonlinear relationship between SES and urban heat at a fine scale, thereby assisting urban planners in developing effective strategies.

RESUMEN

Decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) is an organic compound that is widely used in rubber, textile, electronics, plastics and other industries. It has been found that BDE-209 has a destructive effect on the reproductive system of mammals. However, the effect of BDE-209 exposure on oocyte quality and whether there is a viable salvage strategy have not been reported. Here, we report that murine oocytes exposed to BDE-209 produce a series of meiostic defects, including increased fragmentation rates and decreased PBE. Furthermore, exposure of oocytes to BDE-209 hinders mitochondrial function and disrupts mitochondrial integrity. Our observations show that supplementation with NMN successfully alleviated the meiosis impairment caused by BDE-209 and averted oocyte apoptosis by suppressing ROS generation. In conclusion, our findings suggest that NMN supplementation may be able to alleviate the oocyte quality impairment induced by BDE-209 exposure, providing a potential strategy for protecting oocytes from environmental pollutant exposure.

RESUMEN

Ice-covered transmission lines seriously affect the normal operation of the power transmission system. Resonance deicing based on different ice thicknesses is an effective method to solve the issue of ice-covered transmission lines. In order to obtain accurate ice thickness of transmission lines, this paper designs an ice thickness of transmission line recognition model based on Global Micro Strip Awareness Net (GMSA-Net) and proposes a Mixed Strip Convolution Module (MSCM) and a global micro awareness module (GMAM). The MSCM adapts to the shape of ice-covered transmission lines by using strip convolutions with different receptive fields, improving the encoder's ability to extract ice-covered features; the GMAM perceives through both global and micro parts, mining the connections between semantic information. Finally, the ice thickness of the generated segmented image is calculated using the method of regional pixel statistics. Experiments are conducted on the dataset of ice-covered transmission lines. The mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of image segmentation reaches 96.4%, the balanced F-Score (F1-Score) is 98.1%, and the identification error of ice thickness is within 3.8%. Experimental results prove that this method can accurately identify the ice thickness of transmission lines, providing a control basis for the application of resonant deicing engineering.

RESUMEN

Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) is a chemical softener and plasticizer commonly used in toys, food packaging, wallpaper, detergents and shampoos. The estrogenic actions of BBP have detrimental effects on humans and animals. In this study, the specific influence of BBP on mouse oocyte maturation was investigated using in vivo and in vitro models. The experiment first verified that BBP exposure significantly affected the rate of oocyte exclusion of the first polar body, although it did not affect germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD) through in vitro oocyte culture system. Results of in vitro fertilization show that BBP exposure affects blastocyst rate. Subsequently, the results obtained by immunofluorescence staining technology showed that oocyte spindle organization, chromosomal arrangement and the distribution of cortical actin were disrupted by BBP exposure, and led to the failure of oocyte meiotic maturation and the subsequent early embryo development. Singe-cell transcriptome analysis found that BBP exposure altered the expression levels of 588 genes, most associated with mitochondria-related oxidative stress. Further analysis demonstrated that the detrimental effects of BBP involved the disruption of mitochondrial function and oxidative stress-induced early apoptosis. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) supplementation reduced the adverse effects of BBP. Collectively, these findings revealed a mechanism of BBP-induced toxicity on female reproduction and showed that NMN provides an effective treatment for BBP actions.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to describe the clinical features of extracranial germ cell tumors (GCTs) in pediatrics and study the clinical risk factors related to survival for malignant germ cell tumors (MGCTs) in order to optimize therapeutic options. METHODS: The clinical data of children with extracranial GCTs in three children's medical centers in Shanghai were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: In total, 1007 cases of extracranial GCTs diagnosed between 2010 and 2019 were included in this study, including teratomas (TERs) 706 (70.11%) and MGCTs 301 (29.89%). There were twice as many TER cases as MGCT cases. Approximately 50% of children with GCTs were <3 years old (43.39% for TERs, 67.13% for MGCTs). GCTs in children of different ages show differences in tumor anatomical locations and pathological subtypes. The 5-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) of all patients with MGCTs were 82.33% (95% CI, 77.32%, 86.62%) and 94.13% (95% CI, 90.02%, 96.69%), respectively. The multivariate Cox regression analysis identified a primary site in the mediastinum and alpha fetoprotein (AFP) levels ≥10,000 ng/mL as independent adverse prognostic factors (p < 0.0.0001, χ2 = 23.6638, p = 0.0225, χ2 = 5.2072.). There were no significant differences in OS among children receiving various chemotherapy regimens, such as the BEP, PEB, JEB and other regimens (VBP/VIP and AVCP/IEV) (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The clinical features of GCTs in Chinese pediatrics are similar to those reported in children in Europe and America. The age distribution of pathological types and primary sites in GCTs reflect the developmental origin of type I and type II GCTs transformed from mismigration primordial germ cells (PGCs). Optimizing the current platinum-based chemotherapy regimens and exploring the treatment strategies for MGCTs of the mediastinum are future research directions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Hereditary spherocytosis (HS) is characterized by anemia, jaundice, splenomegaly, and cholelithiasis, and is caused by abnormal genes encoding red blood cell membrane components. The most common mutations found in HS are in the ANK1 gene. CASE SUMMARY: A 4-mo-old girl was admitted to our hospital with pallor that had lasted for more than 2 mo. She presented with jaundice, anemia and splenomegaly. A heterozygous mutation of ANK1 (exon23: c.G2467T:p.E823X) was identified, and the mutation was determined to be autosomal dominant. This mutation is linked to the relatively serious anemia she had after birth; this anemia improved with age. CONCLUSION: The utilization of next-generation sequencing may assist with the accurate diagnosis of HS, especially in atypical cases.

RESUMEN

In this paper, two new aggregation operators based on Choquet integral, namely the induced generalized interval neutrosophic Choquet integral average operator(IGINCIA) and the induced generalized interval neutrosophic Choquet integral geometric operator(IG-INCIG), are proposed for multi-criteria decision making problems (MCDM). Firstly, the criteria are dependent to each other and the evaluation information of the criteria are expressed by interval neutrosophic numbers. Moreover, two indices which are inspired by the geometrical structure are established to compare the interval neutrosophic numbers. Then, a MCDM method is proposed based on the proposed aggregation operators and ranking indices to cope with MCDM with interactive criteria. Lastly, an investment decision making problem is provided to illustrate the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approach. The validity and advantages of the proposed method are analyzed by comparing with some existing approaches. By a numerical example in company investment to expand business though five alternatives with considering four criteria, the optimal decision is made.
