RESUMEN
Anterior urinary bladder wall biopsy specimens were examined in 24 males and 4 females, aged 52 to 76 years, who had been suffering from the hyperactive urinary bladder for 1-10 years. Increases in the number and activity of interstitial mast cells and their degranulation and the symptoms of chronic immune inflammation were revealed. Neuromuscular spastic dysfunction of the detrusor is considered to result from the activation of mast cells.

Overactive bladder (OAB) is still a serious problem because of its high prevalence in men and women. Endoscopic or open detrusor biopsies were obtained from 28 (24 male and 4 female) patients of 52 to 75 years of age with obstructive or idiopathic OAB of 1 to 10 year duration. The control group included 6 males and 2 females without OAB symptoms. Allergic inflammation with involvement of mast cells, parasympathetic element hyperplasia, ultrastructural changes of myocytes with structural damage to mitochondria were detected in the detrusor of patients with both obstructive and idiopathic OAB. Succinate dehydrogenase activity was low but lactate dehydrogenase activity was enhanced in lymphocytes of peripheral blood. Severity of these changes correlated with morphological features of decreased tissue respiration in the detrusor muscles. In view of the detected inflammatory pathogenetic aspects it is recommended to add antiallergic drugs improving detrusor bioenergetics to combined treatment of OAB.

Reaferon administered to outbred young mice with experimental influenza had a positive effect on morphologic changes in pulmonary tissues and on lipid peroxidation in the blood plasma and pulmonary tissues. Combined use of reaferon and alpha-tocopherol in mice infected with influenza A virus reduced the mortality rate, boosted the antiviral effect of reaferon proper, and led to virtually complete normalization of lipid peroxidation processes in the blood plasma and pulmonary tissues.

Six variants of pulmonary pathology are described basing on the differences in composition of tracheobronchial wash-offs. This composition was studied by electron microscopy and biochemical assay of phospholipids in 76 neonates during the first day of life as well as by structural investigation of the lungs in 16 children who had died within two days after birth. The composition of the tracheobronchial wash-offs was compared with lung alterations associated with intrauterine hypoxia, infection, delay of respiratory parenchyma development, brain trauma.

Cytochemical analysis of lymphocytes' enzymes may could be an alternative method to skeletal muscle biopsy in diagnosis of mitochondrial pathology. We investigated biopsies of skeletal muscles and cytochemical status of lymphocytes in 14 children with mitochondrial pathology. Lymphocytes were investigated also in 12 health children. The data on mitochondrial state in the skeletal muscles and peripheral blood lymphocytes were comparable. The less were the size and functional activity of single mitochondria in lymphocytes, the higher was mitochondrial insufficiency in the skeletal muscle. Enzymatic status of peripheral blood lymphocytes is not less indicative of mitochondrial insufficiency in children than mitochondrial characteristics in skeletal muscles. It reflects multisystem mitochondrial insufficiency. The results obtained are determined by both mitochondrial pathological modifications and their compensatory response to pathological process.

Histological analysis of lung and kidney after multiple PAF i.v. injection into rabbits was performed. Under these conditions the effect of previously injected of verapamyl, calcium channel blocker, was studied. It was shown that RAF causes inflammatory reaction with cell infiltration, microcirculation disorders and thrombosis in lung and kidney, which may classify as interstitial nephritis, pneumonitis and vasculitis. Verapamyl inhibits vasospasm, abolishes fibrinogen but does not affect cell infiltration and oedema development. Thus, Ca channel-dependent mechanism of vasospasm and thrombogenesis induced by PAF in vivo is confirmed. Perhaps, another possibilities for realising PAF action in vivo may occur.
