RESUMEN

The interleukin (IL)-17 family, consisting of six members, promotes host defense but can in some context promote the development of autoimmune disease. Here, we examined the role of IL-17D, a poorly understood member in the IL-17 family. IL-17D was expressed primarily by colonic epithelial cells. Il17d-/- mice were more susceptible to acute colitis, bacterial infection and experimentally induced colon cancer than their wildtype counterparts. Il17d deficiency impaired IL-22 production by group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) and reduced expression of IL-22-dependent antimicrobial peptides, RegIIIß and RegIIIγ, in colon tissue at steady state and in colitis; this was associated with changes in microbial composition and dysbiosis. Protein purification studies revealed that IL-17D bound not canonical IL-17 receptors, but rather CD93, a glycoprotein expressed on mature ILC3s. Mice lacking Cd93 in ILC3s exhibited impaired IL-22 production and aggravated colonic inflammation in experimental colitis. Thus, an IL-17D-CD93 axis regulates ILC3 function to preserve intestinal homeostasis.

Defensive responses to visually threatening stimuli represent an essential fear-related survival instinct, widely detected across species. The neural circuitry mediating visually triggered defensive responses has been delineated in the midbrain. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating the development and function of these circuits remain unresolved. Here, we show that midbrain-specific deletion of the transcription factor Brn3b causes a loss of neurons projecting to the lateral posterior nucleus of the thalamus. Brn3b deletion also down-regulates the expression of the neuropeptide tachykinin 2 (Tac2). Furthermore, Brn3b mutant mice display impaired defensive freezing responses to visual threat precipitated by social isolation. This behavioral phenotype could be ameliorated by overexpressing Tac2, suggesting that Tac2 acts downstream of Brn3b in regulating defensive responses to threat. Together, our experiments identify specific genetic components critical for the functional organization of midbrain fear-related visual circuits. Similar mechanisms may contribute to the development and function of additional long-range brain circuits underlying fear-associated behavior.

Soft systems that respond to external stimuli, such as heat, magnetic field, and light, find applications in a range of fields including soft robotics, energy harvesting, and biomedicine. However, most of the existing systems exhibit nondirectional, nastic movement as they can neither grow nor sense the direction of stimuli. In this regard, artificial systems are outperformed by organisms capable of directional growth in response to the sense of stimuli or tropic growth. Inspired by tropic growth schemes of plant cells and fungal hyphae, here we report an artificial multistimuli-responsive tropic tip-growing system based on nonsolvent-induced phase separation of polymer solution, where polymer precipitates as its solvent dissolves into surrounding nonsolvent. We provide a theoretical framework to predict the size and velocity of growing precipitates and demonstrate its capability of sensing the directions of gravity, mechanical contact, and light and adjusting its growing direction in response. Exploiting the embedded physical intelligence of sensing and responding to external stimuli, our soft material system achieves multiple tasks including printing 3D structures in a confined space, bypassing mechanical obstacles, and shielded transport of liquids within water.

The defect emission from h-BN at 1.55 eV is interesting as it enables optical readout of spins. It is necessary to identify the nature of the relevant point defects for its controlled introduction. However, it is challenging to engineer point defects in h-BN without changing the local atomic structure. Here, we controllably introduce boron vacancies in h-BN using an ultrahigh spatial resolution and low-energy He+ ion beam. By optimizing the He+ ion irradiation conditions, we control the quantity and location of defects spatially and along the depth of h-BN to achieve a robust photoluminescence emission at 1.55 eV from 10 K to room temperature. We show that as-generated defects activate an additional Raman mode at 1295 cm-1. Electron energy loss spectroscopy confirms introduction of boron vacancies without modification of the local h-BN crystal structure. Our results provide a deterministic strategy to create scalable boron vacancy emitters in h-BN for quantum photonics.

The controlled vapor-phase synthesis of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is essential for functional applications. While chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques have been successful for transition metal sulfides, extending these methods to selenides and tellurides often faces challenges due to uncertain roles of hydrogen (H2) in their synthesis. Using CVD growth of MoSe2 as an example, this study illustrates the role of a H2-free environment during temperature ramping in suppressing the reduction of MoO3, which promotes effective vaporization and selenization of the Mo precursor to form MoSe2 monolayers with excellent crystal quality. As-synthesized MoSe2 monolayer-based field-effect transistors show excellent carrier mobility of up to 20.9 cm2/(V·s) with an on-off ratio of 7 × 107. This approach can be extended to other TMDs, such as WSe2, MoTe2, and MoSe2/WSe2 in-plane heterostructures. Our work provides a rational and facile approach to reproducibly synthesize high-quality TMD monolayers, facilitating their translation from laboratory to manufacturing.

Chemotherapy combined with debulking surgery is the standard treatment protocol for high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). Nonetheless, a significant number of patients encounter relapse due to the development of chemotherapy resistance. To better understand and address this resistance, we conducted a comprehensive study investigating the transcriptional alterations at the single-cell resolution in tissue samples from patients with HGSOC, using single-cell RNA sequencing and T-cell receptor sequencing techniques. Our analyses unveiled notable changes in the tumor signatures after chemotherapy, including those associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition and cell cycle arrest. Within the immune compartment, we observed alterations in the T-cell profiles, characterized by naïve or pre-exhausted populations following chemotherapy. This phenotypic change was further supported by the examination of adjoining T-cell receptor clonotypes in paired longitudinal samples. These findings underscore the profound impact of chemotherapy on reshaping the tumor landscape and the immune microenvironment. This knowledge may provide clues for the development of future therapeutic strategies to combat treatment resistance in HGSOC.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors unleash inhibitory signals on T cells conferred by tumors and surrounding stromal cells. Despite the clinical efficacy of checkpoint inhibitors, the lack of target expression and persistence of immunosuppressive cells limit the pervasive effectiveness of the therapy. These limitations may be overcome by alternative approaches that co-stimulate T cells and the immune microenvironment. METHODS: We analyzed single-cell RNA sequencing data from multiple human cancers and a mouse tumor transplant model to discover the pleiotropic expression of the Interleukin 7 (IL-7) receptor on T cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. RESULTS: Our experiment on the mouse model demonstrated that recombinant IL-7 therapy induces tumor regression, expansion of effector CD8 T cells, and pro-inflammatory activation of macrophages. Moreover, spatial transcriptomic data support immunostimulatory interactions between macrophages and T cells. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that IL-7 therapy induces anti-tumor immunity by activating T cells and pro-inflammatory myeloid cells, which may have diverse therapeutic applicability.

Skin wounds heal faster during stem cell differentiation. Cold plasma reportedly enhances cell proliferation and differentiation and enhances the efficacy of stem cell therapy. However, the exact mechanism of action involved remains unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of a combination therapy involving the transplantation of mouse mesenchymal stem cells (mMSCs) into mice with wounds followed by their activation using no-ozone cold plasma (NCP). Balb/c mMSCs were transplanted into BALB/c mice and treated with NCP for 5 min. The animals were divided into four groups based on treatments received: no treatment (Wound), mMSCs only (mMSC), NCP only (NCP), and both mMSC and NCP (mMSC + NCP). NCP treatment was administered six times over two weeks, and tissue samples were prepared by sacrificing the mice in the 1st and 2nd weeks. The wound healing efficacy was assessed using morphological, histological, and molecular approaches including wound healing length measurements, hematoxylin and eosin staining, Masson trichrome staining, immunofluorescence staining, immunohistochemistry, and real-time polymerase chain reaction. The wound healing effect was better in the mMSC + NCP group than that in the groups treated with either. Tracking the injected mMSCs in mice also revealed that the mMSC + NCP group had a greater survival rate. Furthermore, upon wound healing, the mMSC + NCP group exhibited elevated levels of growth factors, like platelet-derived growth factor, transforming growth factor-beta, and vascular endothelial growth factor. These results suggest that NCP stimulated transplanted mMSCs, resulting in faster wound healing. Therefore, further studies are warranted in preclinical and clinical studies to confirm this effect.

In patients with high-level radiation exposure, gastrointestinal injury is the main cause of death. Despite the severity of damage to the gastrointestinal tract, no specific therapeutic option is available. Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) is a conjugated form of ursodeoxycholic acid that suppresses endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and regulates various cell-signaling pathways. We investigated the effect of TUDCA premedication in alleviating intestinal damage and enhancing the survival of C57BL/6 mice administered a lethal dose (15Gy) of focal abdominal irradiation. TUDCA was administered to mice 1 h before radiation exposure, and reduced apoptosis of the jejunal crypts 12 h after irradiation. At later timepoint (3.5 days), irradiated mice manifested intestinal morphological changes that were detected via histological examination. TUDCA decreased the inflammatory cytokine levels and attenuated the decrease in serum citrulline levels after radiation exposure. Although radiation induced ER stress, TUDCA pretreatment decreased ER stress in the irradiated intestinal cells. The effect of TUDCA indicates the possibility of radiation therapy for cancer in tumor cells. TUDCA did not affect cell proliferation and apoptosis in the intestinal epithelium. TUDCA decreased the invasive ability of the CT26 metastatic colon cancer cell line. Reduced invasion after TUDCA treatment was associated with decreased matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-7 and MMP-13 expression, which play important roles in invasion and metastasis. This study shows a potential role of TUDCA in protecting against radiation-induced intestinal damage and inhibiting tumor cell migration without any radiation and radiation therapy effect.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a major causative factor of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), and the incidence of HPV- associated HNSCC is increasing. The role of tumor microenvironment in viral infection and metastasis needs to be explored further. We studied the molecular characteristics of primary tumors (PTs) and lymph node metastatic tumors (LNMTs) by stratifying them based on their HPV status. Eight samples for single-cell RNA profiling and six samples for spatial transcriptomics (ST), composed of matched primary tumors (PT) and lymph node metastases (LNMT), were collected from both HPV- negative (HPV- ) and HPV-positive (HPV+ ) patients. Using the 10x Genomics Visium platform, integrative analyses with single-cell RNA sequencing were performed. Intracellular and intercellular alterations were analyzed, and the findings were confirmed using experimental validation and publicly available data set. The HPV+ tissues were composed of a substantial amount of lymphoid cells regardless of the presence or absence of metastasis, whereas the HPV- tissue exhibited remarkable changes in the number of macrophages and plasma cells, particularly in the LNMT. From both single-cell RNA and ST data set, we discovered a central gene, pyruvate kinase muscle isoform 1/2 (PKM2), which is closely associated with the stemness of cancer stem cell-like populations in LNMT of HPV- tissue. The consistent expression was observed in HPV- HNSCC cell line and the knockdown of PKM2 weakened spheroid formation ability. Furthermore, we found an ectopic lymphoid structure morphology and clinical effects of the structure in ST slide of the HPV+ patients and verified their presence in tumor tissue using immunohistochemistry. Finally, the ephrin-A (EPHA2) pathway was detected as important signals in angiogenesis for HPV- patients from single-cell RNA and ST profiles, and knockdown of EPHA2 declined the cell migration. Our study described the distinct cellular composition and molecular alterations in primary and metastatic sites in HNSCC patients based on their HPV status. These results provide insights into HNSCC biology in the context of HPV infection and its potential clinical implications.

OBJECTIVE: Peripheral precocious puberty (PPP) is the precocious development of secondary sexual characteristics without pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion. In girls, PPP suggests a hyper-oestrogenic state, such as autonomous ovarian cysts and McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS). We aimed to investigate PPP in girls with ovarian cysts, with or without MAS. DESIGN: A retrospective study design was used. PATIENTS AND MEASUREMENTS: The study included 12 girls diagnosed with ovarian cysts with PPP between January 2003 and May 2022. Pelvic sonography was performed in cases of vaginal bleeding or areolar pigmentation in PPP. The clinical characteristics, clinical course and pelvic sonographic findings of girls with ovarian cysts were investigated. RESULTS: We found 18 episodes of ovarian cysts in the 12 girls. The median size of the ovarian cysts was 27.5 mm. Five of the girls were diagnosed with MAS. The median time to spontaneous regression was 6 months. Later, 4 out of 12 girls progressed to central precocious puberty (CPP), and three of them had a recurrence of ovarian cysts. Compared to the non-recurrent and recurrent groups, there was a difference in peak luteinizing hormone (LH) in the GnRH stimulation test and period to cyst regression. CONCLUSIONS: Most ovarian cysts in PPP spontaneously disappear. However, this could be one of the findings of MAS. Some girls progress from PPP to CPP. Therefore, follow-up is necessary for ovarian cysts in patients with PPP. The recurrence of ovarian cysts may occur when spontaneous regression is prolonged.

The effect of changes in immunosuppressive therapy during the acute phase post-heart transplantation (HTx) on clinical outcomes remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of changes in immunosuppressive therapy by corticosteroid (CS) weaning and everolimus (EVR) initiation during the first year post-HTx on clinical outcomes. We analyzed 622 recipients registered in the Korean Organ Transplant Registry (KOTRY) between January 2014 and December 2021. The median age at HTx was 56 years (interquartile range [IQR], 45-62), and the median follow-up time was 3.9 years (IQR 2.0-5.1). The early EVR initiation within the first year post-HTx and maintenance during the follow-up is associated with reduced the risk of primary composite outcome (all-cause mortality or re-transplantation) (HR, 0.24; 95% CI 0.09-0.68; p < 0.001) and cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) (HR, 0.39; 95% CI 0.19-0.79; p = 0.009) compared with EVR-free or EVR intermittent treatment regimen, regardless of CS weaning. However, the early EVR initiation tends to increase the risk of acute allograft rejection compared with EVR-free or EVR intermittent treatment.

PURPOSE: DNA methylation is a major epigenetic phenomenon through which diet affects health and disease. This study aimed to determine the epigenetic influence of the traditional Korean diet (K-diet) on global DNA methylation via one-carbon metabolism. METHODS: A crossover study was conducted on 52 women. Two diets, a K-diet, high in plant foods and low in calories and animal fat, and a control diet, similar to the diet currently consumed in Korea, were provided to all subjects alternately for 4 weeks with a 4-week washout period. Clinical parameters were measured before and after each dietary intervention. Nutrient intake was calculated by using a computer-aided nutritional analysis program. One-carbon metabolites in the serum and global DNA methylation in peripheral mononuclear cells were determined using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. RESULTS: The K-diet group consumed more folate (669.9 ± 6.7 µg vs. 502.7 ± 3.0, p < 0.001), B6, B12, serine, and choline, and less methionine (992.6 ± 63 vs. 1048.3 mg ± 34.1, p < 0.0001) than the control group did. In the K-diet group, the increment of plasma 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (0.08 µg/mL ± 0.11 vs 0.02 ± 0.10, p < 0.009) and decrement of L-homocysteine (- 70.7 ± 85.0 vs - 39.3 ± 69.4, p < 0.0168) were greater than those of the control group. Global DNA methylation was significantly increased in the K-diet group (6.70 ± 3.02% to 9.45 ± 3.69, p < 0.0001) but not in the control group. CONCLUSIONS: A K-diet high in one-carbon nutrients can enhance the global DNA methylation status, suggesting an epigenetic mechanism by which the K-diet conveys health effects. BACKGROUND AND AIM: Our study evaluated the outcomes of switching from tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) to tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). We assessed viral and biochemical responses as well as changes in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and bone mineral density (BMD). METHODS: This retrospective multicenter study included CHB patients who achieved virologic response (VR) (HBV DNA < 20 IU/mL) while on TDF and were subsequently switched to TAF between April 2018 and October 2021. RESULTS: This study included 309 patients with a median age of 59 years, and 42.1% were male. The mean duration of TDF and TAF administration were 54.0 and 37.5 months, respectively. All patients maintained VR after switching to TAF. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) normalization rate significantly increased 6 months after switching (74.8%-83.5%; P = 0.008). Adjusted eGFR significantly improved at 6 months (+5.55 ± 10.52 mL/min/1.73 m2; P < 0.001) and 12 months (+6.02 ± 10.70 mL/min/1.73 m2; P < 0.001) after switching. In the subgroup of patients with renal impairment (eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2), significant improvement in renal function was observed at 6 months (+0.6 ± 10.5 mL/min/1.73 m2; P < 0.001) and 12 months (+1.0 ± 10.7 mL/min/1.73 m2; P < 0.001) after switching to TAF. In patients with osteoporosis (n = 182), switching to TAF resulted in significant improvement in spine and hip BMD at 12 months, with increases of 9.7% (95% CI: 7.0-12.5) and 9.4% (95% CI: 7.0-11.8), respectively. CONCLUSION: In this real-world study, switching to TAF was effective and safe in patients, with notable improvements in ALT levels, renal function, and BMD.

BACKGROUND: There is still poor evidence about the safety and feasibility of laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) for huge (> 10 cm) hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC). The aim of this study was to assess the short- and long-term outcomes of LLR versus open liver resection (OLR) for patients with huge HCC from real-life data from consecutive patients. METHODS: Data regarding all consecutive patients undergoing liver resection for huge HCC were retrospectively collected from a Korean referral HPB center. Primary outcomes were the postoperative results, while secondary outcomes were the oncologic survivals. RESULTS: Sixty-three patients were included in the study: 46 undergoing OLR and 17 LLR. Regarding postoperative outcomes, there were no statistically significant differences in estimated blood loss, operation time, transfusions, postoperative bile leak, ascites, severe complications, and R1 resection rates. After a median follow-up of 48.4 (95% CI 8.9-86.8) months, there were no statistically significant differences in 3 years OS (59.3 ± 8.7 months vs. 85.2 ± 9.8 months) and 5 years OS (31.1 ± 9 months vs. 73.1 ± 14.1 months), after OLR and LLR, respectively (p = 0.10). Similarly, there was not a statistically significant difference in both 3 years DFS (23.5% ± 8.1 months vs. 51.6 ± months) and 5 years DFS (15.7 ± 7.1 months vs. 38.7 ± 15.3 months), respectively (p = 0.13), despite a potential clinically significant difference. CONCLUSION: LLR for huge HCC may be safe and effective in selected cases. Further studies with larger sample size and more appropriate design are needed to confirm these results.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) has evolved to become the standard surgical approach in many referral centers worldwide. The aim of this study was to analyze how LLR evolved at a single high-volume referral center since its introduction, more than two decades ago. METHODS: Data from all consecutive LLR between January 2003 and September 2022 at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital were analyzed. Perioperative outcomes were compared between three time periods, with major technological innovations considered as landmarks: before introduction of laparoscopic-US and CUSA (2003-2006), before (2006-2015) and after (2015-2022) introduction of high-definition scope. RESULTS: During the analyzed time periods the number of technically challenging procedures increased from 39.2 to 61.1% (p < 0.001). The most recent period showed shorter median operation time (from 267.5' to 175', p < 0.001), lower median estimated blood loss (EBL) (from 500 to 300 ml, p < 0.001), lower intraoperative transfusions (from 33.8 to 9.3%, p < 0.001), shorter median postoperative hospital stay (from 12 to 6 days, p < 0.001). The time period, a technical major resection and an underlying liver cirrhosis were found to be the associated with longer operation time (p < 0.001) in the multivariable linear regression analysis, while tumor size, technically major surgeries and liver cirrhosis were associated with higher EBL (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: During the last two decades, the indications for patients undergoing LLR have expanded significantly, including more and more challenging procedures and frail patients. Despite such challenges, perioperative outcomes improved, although technically major procedures, cirrhotic patients and huge tumors have still to be considered challenging situations.

Throughout history, various cultures have recognized the significance of insects and have integrated them into traditional medicinal practices. In addition to medicines, insects are garnering attention as a sustainable and nutritious dietary alternative. Although edible insects have long been recognized as food sources in many Asian cultures, recent scientific studies have highlighted their potential therapeutic benefits, particularly in the field of neuroprotection. This review explores insect-derived extracts and peptides, elucidating their neuroprotective potential. This review highlights the potential use of insects as a source of neuroprotective agents. Advancements in neuroprotection may find a key ally in insects as our understanding of the symbiotic relationship between insects and human health becomes more profound.

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a serious disease with an alarmingly high incidence that can lead to other complications in both humans and dogs. Similar to humans, obesity can cause metabolic diseases such as diabetes in dogs. Natural products may be the preferred intervention for metabolic diseases such as obesity. The compound 1-deoxynojirimycin, present in Morus leaves and other sources has antiobesity effects. The possible antiobesity effect of 1-deoxynojirimycin containing Morus alba leaf-based food was studied in healthy companion dogs (n = 46) visiting the veterinary clinic without a history of diseases. Body weight, body condition score (BCS), blood-related parameters, and other vital parameters of the dogs were studied. Whole-transcriptome of blood and gut microbiome analysis was also carried out to investigate the possible mechanisms of action and role of changes in the gut microbiome due to treatment. RESULTS: After 90 days of treatment, a significant antiobesity effect of the treatment food was observed through the reduction of weight, BCS, and blood-related parameters. A whole-transcriptome study revealed differentially expressed target genes important in obesity and diabetes-related pathways such as MLXIPL, CREB3L1, EGR1, ACTA2, SERPINE1, NOTCH3, and CXCL8. Gut microbiome analysis also revealed a significant difference in alpha and beta-diversity parameters in the treatment group. Similarly, the microbiota known for their health-promoting effects such as Lactobacillus ruminis, and Weissella hellenica were abundant (increased) in the treatment group. The predicted functional pathways related to obesity were also differentially abundant between groups. CONCLUSIONS: 1-Deoxynojirimycin-containing treatment food have been shown to significantly improve obesity. The identified genes, pathways, and gut microbiome-related results may be pursued in further studies to develop 1-deoxynojirimycin-based products as candidates against obesity.

Helminth infections and their components has been recognized to have a positive impact on the immune system. This study aimed to investigate the potential of Metagonimus yokogawai-derived proteins (MYp) to provide protection against ankylosing spondylitis (AS) through modulation of immune responses. The cytotoxicity of MYp at various doses was first assessed using MTS and flow cytometry. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were collected from AS patients, and the production of inflammatory cytokines was analyzed through flow cytometry. In the experiments with SKG mice, MYp or vehicle was administered and inflammation was evaluated through immunohistochemistry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The results showed that MYp did not decrease cell viability of PBMCs even after 48 h. Additionally, the frequencies of IFN-γ and IL-17A producing cells were significantly reduced after MYp treatment in the PBMC cultures. Furthermore, MYp treatment significantly suppressed arthritis and enthesitis in the SKG mouse model. The results suggest the first evidence that MYp can effectively alleviate clinical symptoms and restore cytokine balance in patients with AS.

PURPOSE: The extent of honeycombing and reticulation predict the clinical prognosis of IPF. Emphysema, consolidation, and ground glass opacity are visible in HRCT scans. To date, there have been few comprehensive studies that have used these parameters. We conducted automated quantitative analysis to identify predictive parameters for clinical outcomes and then grouped the subjects accordingly. METHODS: CT images were obtained while patients held their breath at full inspiration. Parameters were analyzed using an automated lung texture quantification system. Cluster analysis was conducted on 159 IPF patients and clinical profiles were compared between clusters in terms of survival. RESULTS: Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that survival rates declined as fibrosis, reticulation, honeycombing, consolidation, and emphysema scores increased. Cox regression analysis revealed that reticulation had the most significant impact on survival rate, followed by honeycombing, consolidation, and emphysema scores. Hierarchical and K-means cluster analyses revealed 3 clusters. Cluster 1 (n = 126) with the lowest values for all parameters had the longest survival duration, and relatively-well preserved FVC and DLCO. Cluster 2 (n = 15) with high reticulation and consolidation scores had the lowest FVC and DLCO values with a predominance of female, while cluster 3 (n = 18) with high honeycombing and emphysema scores predominantly consisted of male smokers. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that cluster 2 had the lowest survival rate, followed by cluster 3 and cluster 1. CONCLUSION: Automated quantitative CT analysis provides valuable information for predicting clinical outcomes, and clustering based on these parameters may help identify the high-risk group for management.
