Critical state and continuum plasticity theories have been used in research and engineering practice in soil and rock mechanics for decades. These theories rely on postulated relationships between material stresses and strains. Some classical postulates include coaxiality between stress and strain rates, stress-dilatancy relationships, and kinematic assumptions in shear bands. Although numerical and experimental data have quantified the strains and grain kinematics in such experiments, little data quantifying grain stresses are available. Here, we report the first-known grain stress and local strain measurements in triaxial compression tests on synthetic quartz sands using synchrotron X-ray tomography and 3D X-ray diffraction. We use these data to examine the micromechanics of shear banding, with a focus on coaxiality, stress-dilatancy, and kinematics within bands. Our results indicate the following: 1) elevated deviatoric stress, strain, and stress ratios in shear bands throughout experiments; 2) coaxial principal compressive stresses and strains throughout samples; 3) significant contraction along shear bands; 4) vanishing volumetric strain but nonvanishing stress fluctuations throughout samples at all stages of deformation. Our results provide some of the first-known in situ stress and strain measurements able to aid in critically evaluating postulates employed in continuum plasticity and strain localization theories for sands.

The response envelope model proposed by Cook et al. (2010) is an efficient method to estimate the regression coefficient under the context of the multivariate linear regression model. It improves estimation efficiency by identifying material and immaterial parts of responses and removing the immaterial variation. The response envelope model has been investigated only for continuous response variables. In this paper, we propose the multivariate probit model with latent envelope, in short, the probit envelope model, as a response envelope model for multivariate binary response variables. The probit envelope model takes into account relations between Gaussian latent variables of the multivariate probit model by using the idea of the response envelope model. We address the identifiability of the probit envelope model by employing the essential identifiability concept and suggest a Bayesian method for the parameter estimation. We illustrate the probit envelope model via simulation studies and real-data analysis. The simulation studies show that the probit envelope model has the potential to gain efficiency in estimation compared to the multivariate probit model. The real data analysis shows that the probit envelope model is useful for multi-label classification.

Syntenin acts as an adaptor and scaffold protein through its two PSD-95, Dlg, and ZO-1 (PDZ) domains, participating in multiple signaling pathways and modulating cellular physiology. It has been identified as an oncogene, promoting cancer development, metastasis, and angiogenesis in various carcinomas. Syntenin-1 is also associated with the production and release of exosomes, small extracellular vesicles that play a significant role in intercellular communication by containing bioactive molecules such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. The trafficking of exosomes involves a complex interplay of various regulatory proteins, including syntenin-1, which interacts with its binding partners, syndecan and activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule (ALIX). Exosomal transfer of microRNAs, a key cargo, can regulate the expression of various cancer-related genes, including syntenin-1. Targeting the mechanism involving the regulation of exosomes by syntenin-1 and microRNAs may provide a novel treatment strategy for cancer. This review highlights the current understanding of syntenin-1's role in regulating exosome trafficking and its associated cellular signaling pathways.

Hepatic fibrosis is the first stage of liver disease, and can progress to a chronic status, such as cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. Excessive production of extracellular matrix (ECM) components plays an important role in the development of fibrosis. Mechanistically, transforming growth factor beta (TGFß)-induced phosphorylation of Smad is thought to be a key signaling pathway in the development of liver fibrosis. Although the natural isoquinoline alkaloid oxoglaucine (1,2,9,10-tetramethoxy-7H-dibenzo(de,g)quinolin-7-one) exerts numerous beneficial effects, including anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and anti-osteoarthritic effects in diverse cell types, the effects of oxoglaucine on liver fibrosis and fibrogenic gene expression have not been fully elucidated. The aim of this study is to evaluate the signaling pathway and antifibrotic activity of isoquinoline alkaloid oxoglaucine in TFGß-induced hepatic fibrosis in vitro. Using Hepa1c1c7 cells and primary hepatocytes, we demonstrated that oxoglaucine treatment resulted in inhibition of the expression of fibrosis markers such as collagen, fibronectin, and alpha-SMA. Subsequent experiments showed that oxoglaucine suppressed TGFß-induced phosphorylation of Smad2 and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, without altering cell proliferation. We further determined that the increase in Smad7 by oxoglaucine treatment is responsible for the inhibition of Smad2 phosphorylation and the anti-fibrogenic effects. These findings indicate that oxoglaucine plays a crucial role in suppression of fibrosis in hepatocytes, thereby making it a potential drug candidate for treatment of liver fibrosis.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is more difficult to treat and has a higher mortality rate than other subtypes. Although hormone receptor-targeted therapy is an effective treatment to increase survival rate in breast cancer patients, it is not suitable for TNBC patients. To address the issues, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in TNBC patients from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were analyzed. A total of 170 genes were obtained from three Genomic Spatial Events (GSEs) using the intersection of each GSE dataset and 61 DEGs were identified after validation with the gene enrichment analysis. We combined this with the degree scores from the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, of which 7 genes were correlated with survival rate. Finally, a proteomics database revealed that only the CHK1 protein level was differently expressed in basal-like compared with other subtypes. We demonstrated that CHK1 expression was higher in TNBC cell lines compared with non-TNBC cell lines, and CHK1 promotes epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) as well as migration and invasion ability. Our study provides new insight into the TNBC subnetwork that may be useful in the prognosis and treatment of TNBC patients.

OBJECTIVE: Patients with breast cancer receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy are at increased risk of poor health-related quality of life (HRQOL). This study examined clinical caseness on depression and anxiety mediate the relationship between resilience and HRQOL in patients with breast cancer. METHODS: A total of 193 patients with breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy completed questionnaires including the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast before the first session (T0), before the start of the last session (T1), and 6 months after the end (T2) of chemotherapy. Mediation analyses using a bootstrapping method was performed. RESULTS: The indirect effect (IE) through T1 depression was significant (IE through depression = 0.043, 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.002-0.090]), while IE through T1 anxiety was not significant (IE through anxiety = 0.037, 95% CI [-0.010-0.097]) in the association between T0 resilience and T2 HRQOL. CONCLUSIONS: Clinical caseness on HADS depression subscale during chemotherapy was a mediating factor of the relationship between resilience before chemotherapy and HRQOL after chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Depression during chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer may be a target symptom of screening and intervention to maintain the HRQOL after chemotherapy. Also, patients with low resilience are more likely to develop depression during chemotherapy, and clinicians should carefully monitor whether depression occurs in these patients with low resilience.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this longitudinal prospective cohort study was to investigate the role of chronotype in the incidence of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) among women with breast cancer. METHODS: We recruited women with breast cancer awaiting adjuvant chemotherapy, including four cycles of docetaxel. Participants reported peripheral neuropathy symptoms of numbness/tingling at the baseline, and at 4weeks after completion of chemotherapy. Candidate psychiatric factors associated with CIPN were assessed at the baseline, using the Composite Scale of Morningness, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. To examine the association between chronotype and CIPN, we built logistic regression models, adjusting for demographic, clinical, and other psychiatric variables. RESULTS: Among 48 participants, 29 participants developed CIPN. The morning chronotype was inversely associated with CIPN (odds ratio, 0.06; confidence interval, 0.01-0.74; P = 0.028) after adjusting for age, BMI, education, type of operation, alcohol use, smoking, sleep quality, depression, and anxiety. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that the morning chronotype is a protective factor against the development of CIPN in patients with breast cancer who were treated with docetaxel. PURPOSE: Adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer often causes hot flashes, impairing quality of life. However, the chronobiological or psychiatric factors associated with the development of chemotherapy-induced hot flashes (CIHFs) remain undetermined. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether chronotype was associated with the incidence of CIHFs. METHODS: A total of 119 premenopausal women with non-metastatic breast cancer awaiting adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery without hot flashes were included. The presence of CIHF was defined as having moderate to severe hot flashes, as measured by the subscale of hot flashes in the Menopause Rating Scale, at 4 weeks after the completion of chemotherapy. Chronotype (Morning/Intermediate/Evening) was assessed with the Composite Scale of Morningness before adjuvant chemotherapy. To examine the association between chronotype and CIHF, we built logistic regression models, adjusting for age, body mass index, sleep quality, and radiation therapy. RESULTS: CIHF occurred in 50.4% of participants. Morning type was inversely associated with CIHF (reference: Intermediate type, odds ratio [OR], 0.37; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.16-0.94; p = 0.040) in the univariate model, and the association remained significant (OR, 0.37; CI, 0.13-0.96; p = 0.045) after adjusting for age, body mass index, sleep quality, and radiation therapy. CONCLUSIONS: Morning chronotype is a protective factor against the development of CIHF in patients with breast cancer. Chronotypes should be assessed and considered in the prediction and management of CIHF.

BACKGROUND: This study examined phenomenological manifestations of delirium in advanced cancer patients by examining the factor structure of the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (DRS-R-98) and profiles of delirium symptoms. METHODS: Ninety-three patients with advanced cancer admitted to inpatient palliative care units in South Korea were examined by psychiatrists using the DRS-R-98 and the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM). The factor structure of the DRS-R-98 was examined by exploratory structural equation modelling analysis (ESEM) and profiles of delirium were examined by latent profile analysis (LPA). RESULTS: CAM-defined delirium was present in 66.6% (n = 62) of patients. Results from the ESEM analysis confirmed applicability of the core and noncore symptom factors of the DRS-R-98 to advanced cancer patients. LPA identified three distinct profiles of delirium characterizing the overall severity of delirium and its core and noncore symptoms. Class 1 (n = 55, 59.1%) showed low levels of all delirium symptoms. Class 2 (n = 17, 18.3%) showed high levels of core symptoms only, whereas Class 3 (n = 21, 22.6%) showed high levels of both core and noncore symptoms except motor retardation. CONCLUSIONS: Clinical care for delirium in advanced cancer patients may benefit from consideration of the core and noncore symptom factor structure and the three distinct phenomenological profiles of delirium observed in the present study.

PURPOSE: Delirium is a common neurocognitive complication in cancer. Despite this, the studies examining the trajectory of the severity of delirium symptoms and its impact on health outcome in gastric cancer is rather limited. This study examined the trajectory of delirium symptom severity (DSS) following resection surgery for gastric cancer and its prospective association with cognitive function. METHODS: A three-wave prospective observational study was conducted with 242 gastric cancer patients admitted for resection surgery at a teaching hospital in South Korea from May 2016 to November 2017. DSS was assessed by the clinical staff before and 1, 2, 3, and 7 days after surgery using the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98. A survey including the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Cognitive Scale (FACT-Cog) and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) was administered before surgery (T0), 7 days after (T1), and 3 to 6 months after surgery (T2). RESULTS: Out of 242 participants, 48.8% (118) completed the survey at all three time points, 43.4% (105) did so for two time points, and 7.9% (19) for one time point. No cases of full delirium were observed over four postoperative time points. Latent growth curve modeling analyses indicated that DSS declined over 3 days after surgery. Age and anesthesia time were positively associated with the initial level of DSS. A medication history for memory complaints was related to a slower recovery from delirium symptoms. While the use of propofol as an anesthetic agent was associated with lower initial DSS, it predicted a slower recovery from DSS. A higher initial DSS predicted a lower T1 MMSE score. CONCLUSIONS: Severity of postoperative delirium symptoms predicts a short-term and objective cognitive function post-surgery. Monitoring and timely treatment of postoperative delirium symptoms is needed to diminish cognitive consequences in gastric cancer patients.

PURPOSE: The high disease burden associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is linked to the elevated suicide risk in this population. Informed by the interpersonal theory of suicide, this study examined how and under which conditions depression is related to suicide risk in people living with HIV/AIDS. METHODS: A total of 202 outpatients with HIV/AIDS participated in a cross-sectional and multi-center survey involving four university hospitals in South Korea. This self-reported survey included the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire, and Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview suicidality module. RESULTS: Participants' mean age was 48.6 (SD = 13.4) and the majority was male (89.1%). The proportions of those at high, medium, and low suicide risk were 18.5%, 20%, and 15.4%, respectively. Depression was associated with suicide risk directly and indirectly by increasing perceived burdensomeness (PB) and the indirect effect of depression on suicide risk mediated by PB was contingent on the level of thwarted belongingness (TB). PB was associated with suicide risk even after controlling for depression, suggesting its independent effect on suicide risk. CONCLUSIONS: PB and TB are potential mechanisms through which depression is associated with suicide risk, supporting the applicability of the interpersonal theory of suicide to understanding a complex interplay of risk factors in people with HIV/AIDS. Moreover, given the independent association of PB with suicide risk, as well as a protective effect of TB in suicide risk, monitoring and management of these factors should be included in the care of people with HIV/AIDS.

BACKGROUND: Subsyndromal delirium, a condition in which patients exhibit some, but not all, of the symptoms of delirium, can negatively affect the outcomes of patients with cancer. However, the incidence of subsyndromal delirium in patients with gastric cancer is unknown. Here, we investigated the incidence and risk factors of subsyndromal delirium after curative resection of gastric cancer. METHODS: We recruited consecutive patients with gastric cancer who were scheduled for curative resection at a tertiary hospital. Patients' subsyndromal delirium symptoms were serially assessed preoperatively and 1, 2, 3, and 7 days postoperatively using the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (DRS-R-98). A DRS-R-98 score of 8-14 at any postoperative assessment was considered to indicate subsyndromal delirium. Sociodemographic and pre-/intra-operative clinical data were also assessed. Logistic regression analyses were used to determine the associated risk factors. RESULTS: Data were analysed from 163 out of 217 eligible patients. Postoperative delirium occurred in one patient (0.6%) and subsyndromal delirium occurred in 19 patients (11.7%). Age ≥ 70 years (odds ratio, [OR] 3.85; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.36-10.92; p = 0.011) and education level ≤ 9 years (OR, 3.98; 95% CI, 1.39-11.41; p = 0.010) were independent risk factors of subsyndromal delirium after adjusting for preoperative cognitive function. Other pre-/intra-operative variables including anxiety/depression, poor sleep quality, and anaesthesia duration were not associated with subsyndromal delirium. CONCLUSIONS: In contrast to the low incidence of delirium among patients undergoing curative resection of gastric cancer, a substantial proportion of such patients experienced subsyndromal delirium. Considering the prognostic implications, more careful detection and management of subsyndromal delirium may be warranted in patients with gastric cancer.

This prospective longitudinal study evaluated the temporal trajectory of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and its associated factors in patients who received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (SCT) 6 months after transplantation. Eighty-nine adult patients who were admitted to Seoul National University Hospital for SCT were consecutively included in the study. The participants completed three standardized questionnaires: Insomnia Severity Index, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire. The participants completed the study questionnaires at three time points: before SCT (T1), immediately after SCT (T1), and 6 months after SCT (T3). Immediately after SCT, HRQOL decreased significantly (p < 0.001), followed by recovery over 6 months. The conditioning regimen for SCT showed no correlation with HRQOL at T2 (p = 0.283) or T3 (p = 0.799), with no significant difference in HRQOL between allogeneic and autologous SCT recipients at T2 (p = 0.829) or T3 (p = 0.824). Depression (p = 0.042), pain (p = 0.023), and appetite loss (p = 0.004) negatively influenced HRQOL at T1, whereas only pain (p = 0.048) remained an important factor at T2. Six months after SCT, the two most frequent symptoms, fatigue and financial problems, became major factors (p = 0.004 and p = 0.005, respectively). Depression began to play an important role in HRQOL again at T3 (p = 0.040). These findings demonstrate that SCT recipients need both psychological and medical support to achieve a better HRQOL after SCT.

BACKGROUND: Precise assessment of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) with a reliable and valid measure is a prerequisite to the enhancement of HRQOL. This study examined the psychometric properties of the Korean version of the Medical Outcomes Study HIV Health Survey (K-MOS-HIV). METHODS: The reliability and validity of the K-MOS-HIV were examined in a multicenter survey involving 201 outpatients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) from four teaching hospitals throughout Korea. RESULTS: Ceiling effects were observed in six subscales scores, particularly, for the role functioning (71.1%), social functioning (63.2%), and pain (48.8%) scores. The Cronbach's α for the physical health summary and mental health summary were 0.90 and 0.94, respectively, and it ranged from 0.78 to 0.95 for the subscales. The results of the exploratory structural equation modeling supported the two-factor structure of the K-MOS-HIV (physical health summary and mental health summary). An examination of the mean square statistics values from the Rasch analysis showed that the information-weighted fit and outlier-sensitive fit statistics were within the acceptable ranges of 0.6-1.4 except for two items in the mental health summary. The convergent validity of the K-MOS-HIV was supported by its significant positive correlations with the World Health Organization Quality of Life-HIV-BREF subscale scores. Its known-group validity was proven with its ability to detect significant differences in several K-MOS-HIV subscale scores among participants with different sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. CONCLUSIONS: The K-MOS-HIV health survey appears to be a reliable and valid measure of HRQOL.

In this study, we examined the effect of ß-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP) coating on alkali-treated CP Grade II titanium surface via RF magnetron sputtering on osteoblast like cell (MC3T3-E1) viability and bone formation in rat tibia. The specimens were divided into three groups; commercially pure titanium (control group), alkali-treated titanium with nanofiber structure (NF group) and ß-TCP coating on alkali-treated titanium with nanofiber structure (TNF group). The surface characteristics of specimens were observed under a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and contact angle was measured. The cell viability was assessed in vitro after 1 day, 3 days and 7 days. Implants of 2.0 mm diameter and 5.0 mm length were inserted into the tibia of rats. After 4 wks, the histomorphometric analysis was performed. Group NF and group TNF showed improved hydrophilicity of Ti. Group TNF showed significantly higher cell viability (P < 0.05) after 7 days. The bone to implant contact (BIC) ratio of the control group, NF group, and TNF group were 32.3%, 35.5%, and 63.9%, respectively. The study results suggested that ß-TCP coated alkali-treated titanium surface via RF magnetron sputtering might be effective in implant dentistry due to enhanced hydrophilicity, improved cell response, and better osseointegration.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotube by sol-gel process on viability of osteoblast like cell (MC3T3-E1) and bone formation in rat tibia. Specimens were divided into three groups including commercially pure titanium (control group), TiO2 nanotubes (group N), and HA coated TiO2 nanotubes (group HN). Surface characteristics were determined using field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM; S-4700, Hitachi, Japan) and contact angles were measured. Cell viability was investigated in vitro after 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days of incubation. Implants (2.0 mm in diameter and 5.0 mm in length) were inserted into the tibia of rats. After 4 weeks, histomorphometric analysis was performed. Both N and HN groups showed enhanced hydrophilicity compared to control group. After 7 days of implantation, group HN showed higher cell viability with marginal significance (0.05 < P < 0.1). Bone to implant contact (BIC) ratio in the control group, group N, and group HN were 32.5%, 33.1%, and 43.8%, respectively. Results of this study showed that HA coated TiO2 nanotube using sol-gel process could be used to enhance hydrophilicity and improve osseointegration of dental implant surface.

Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) is one of main bacteria that adheres to the surface of dental implants and causes peri-implantitis. The purpose of this study was to observe the surface characteristics of titanium processed with either titanium nitride (TiN) sputter coating or plasma nitriding and to evaluate the subsequent adhesion of P. gingivalis. Specimens were divided into three groups: commercially pure (CP) titanium (control group), TiN sputter­coated titanium (group S), and plasma-nitrided titanium (group P). Surface characteristics such as roughness, morphology, and the formation of a thin TiN film or a nitriding layer were assessed. Adhesion of P. gingivalis in the three groups was determined by means of the crystal violet staining assay, and results were compared with one-way ANOVA, with post hoc comparison using Tukey's test (α = 0.05). Surface roughness values for the control group, group S, and group P were 0.08±0.02 µm, 0.19±0.04 µm, and 0.13±0.02 µm, respectively. In group S, the TiN layer was 1.36±0.1 µm thick, and nitrogen was detected on the surface of the specimens in group P, confirming formation of a nitrided layer. The level of adhesion in group P was significantly higher than that in the control group and in group S (p < 0.05), but there was no significant difference between the control group and group S. Within the limitations of this study, TiN sputter coating did not affect adhesion of P. gingivalis on the titanium surface, whereas adhesion was increased on the plasma-nitrided titanium surface.

PURPOSE: Little research has examined the role of pain catastrophizing (PC) in predicting suicide among patients with rheumatic disease or the mechanisms through which it works. This study examines whether depression, perceived social support (PSS), and perceived burdensomeness (PB) mediate the relationship between PC and suicide risk. It also examines the relative importance of sociodemographic, clinical, and psychological factors in predicting suicide risk. METHODS: Three hundred sixty patients from a rheumatology clinic in Korea completed measures of pain catastrophizing, social support, depression, and perceived burdensomeness. RESULTS: In hierarchical multiple regression analysis, the PC magnification, PB, physical disability, and PSS were significantly related to suicide risk. Results of the serial multiple mediation analysis indicated that the total indirect effect of PC magnification on suicide risk was significant while the direct effect was not. Four specific indirect effects of PC magnification were found to be statistically significant. First of all, PC magnification was associated with suicide risk through PB and through depression and PB. PC magnification was also associated with suicide risk through depression and PSS. Lastly, PC magnification was associated with suicide risk through depression, PSS, and PB. CONCLUSIONS: The identified pathways through which PC affects suicide risk suggest the importance of depression, PSS, and PB. Evaluation and intervention targeted at physical disability and the psychological factors of PC magnification, depression, PSS, and PB may be integrated into the management of suicide risk in patients with rheumatic disease.

OBJECTIVE: Risk factors for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) include older age, female sex, alcohol consumption, and a history of motion sickness. Although gastrointestinal symptoms are found to be related with sleep and mood in other conditions, little is known about their effects on CINV. METHODS: This prospective observational study recruited patients with early-stage breast cancer who had recovered from surgery before receiving a first cycle of anthracycline and cyclophosphamide-based chemotherapy. Candidate factors associated with CINV were assessed before chemotherapy by using the following: the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Insomnia Severity Index, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Chemotherapy-induced nausea (CIN) and chemotherapy-induced vomiting (CIV) were defined according to a numeric rating scale (0-10) as follows: ≥3, nausea; ≥1, vomiting. RESULTS: Between February 2012 and May 2014, data were collected from 198 patients. Chemotherapy-induced nausea occurred in 35.4% of patients, and CIV occurred in 31.3%. Chemotherapy-induced nausea was significantly associated with poor sleep quality (odds ratio [OR], 2.48; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.13-5.46; p = 0.024) and pretreatment nausea (OR, 4.81; 95% CI, 1.84-12.62; p = 0.001). Likewise, CIV was significantly associated with poor sleep quality (OR, 2.64; 95% CI, 1.21-5.78; p = 0.015) and pretreatment nausea (OR, 3.07; 95% CI, 1.23-7.66; p = 0.016). CONCLUSIONS: Poor sleep quality increases risk of CINV in patients with breast cancer. Sleep problems should be assessed and considered in the management of CINV.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of nano-micro titanium implant surface using histology in beagle dogs. A total of 48 screw-shaped implants (Megagen, Daegu, Korea) which dimensions were 4 mm in diameter and 8.5 mm in length, were used. The implants were classified into 4 groups (n = 12): machined surface (M group), RBM (Resorbable Blasting Media) surface (R group), nano surface which is nanotube formation on the machined surface (MA group) and nano-micro surface which is nanotube formation on the RBM surface (RA group). Anodic oxidation was performed at a constant voltage of 20 V for 10 min using a DC power supply (Fine Power F-3005; SG EMD, Anyang, Korea). The bone blocks were investigated using histology. There was no inflammation around implants, and new bone formation was shown along with the nano-micro titanium implant surfaces. The amount of bone formation was increased depending on time comparing 4 weeks and 12 weeks. At 12 weeks, lamellar bone was more formed along with the nano-micro titanium implant surfaces than 4 weeks. It indicated that nano-micro surface showed good result in terms of osseointegration.
