RESUMEN
The diagnosis and treatment of 20 cases of velopharyngeal incompetence without cleft palate (frank or submucosal) are discussed. A total of 16 out of 18 patients treated by a sphincter pharyngoplasty were greatly improved, and 10 have normal speech.

Costal cartilage was harvested from cadavers less than 55 years old, stored in Cialit at a temperature of 4 degrees C and kept in a "cartilage bank" for no longer than one year. The cadaver cartilage was used largely for nasal augmentation and this paper describes the results of 67 cartilage homograft implants in patients who have been followed up for 1-8 years. These suggest that Cialit preserved cartilage homograft should be the first choice of material in nasal augmentation.

A new interpositional elastomeric cap was developed and used for perichondrioplasty in six rheumatoid metacarpophalangeal joints. Adequate cartilage formation occurred, and the joint contours were more normal than those achieved by previous methods.
