RESUMEN

The suspension of staphylocci containing protein A in their cell walls (strain Cowan 1) has been used for the determination of the immunological class of measles antibodies in the blood of measles patients and healthy persons. Adsorption with staphylococcal reagent is a simple and precise method for the detection of IgM which cannot be detected at equal or higher IgG titers when the samples under study are treated with reducing substances similar to mercaptoethanol. The advantages given by the use of protein A preparations for differentiating the nature of serum antibodies are shown, which is essential for the diagnosis and epidemiological analysis of infectious diseases.

RESUMEN

Asparate and alanine aminotransferase activity is approximately the same in different lobes of cerebral hemispheres of people with an uninjured central nervous system. The maximal activity of lactate, malate and succinate dehydrogenase is in the temporal lobes and thalami, the minimal one is in the corpus callosum. The activity of aminotransferases in the brain tumour lowers: in the dedifferentiated tumour the asparate aminotransferase shows a 23-24% decrease; in the case of the meningeal sarcoma it is 2.5 times as low: the activity of alaine aminogransferase is almost 10 times as low. The activity of malate dehydrogenase decreases in the neuroectodermal tumours and sharply (almost twice) in multiform glioblastoma. In the dedifferentiated meningiomas the activity of all the dehydrogenases is increased.

RESUMEN

Beginning from 1986, at Hematological Research Centre (HRC) epidemiological monitoring has been performed on hemoblastoses in Bryansky district, which suffered from the Chernobyl accident more than any other area of Russia. The collection of personal information is organized about each case of disease from all possible sources, diagnosis verification, computer control, storage and analysis of materials. A specialized Register of Blood diseases is created, including demographical and ecological files. Retrospective period of monitoring 1979-1985, afteraccident period-from 1986. In the register 2832 cases were accumulated of hemoblastoses up to 1993. Regions are selected for monitoring with high levels of contamination by 137Cs (15 Ci/sq.km and more), and area for comparison--the other 21 regions of the district. The comparison did not reveal substantial differences. Further epidemiological analysis must be performed. Taking into account dose loads, special studies are initiated.
