RESUMEN

This study explores the impact of sulfur oxidation on the structural, optical, and electronic properties of [1]benzothieno[3,2-b][1]benzothiophene (BTBT) derivatives, specifically focusing on 2,7-dibromo BTBT (2,7-diBr-BTBT) and its oxidized forms, 5,5-dioxide (2,7-diBr-BTBTDO) and 5,5,10,10-tetraoxide (2,7-diBr-BTBTTO). The bromination of BTBT followed by sequential oxidation with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid yielded the target compounds in good yields. They were characterized using a wide array of analytical techniques including different spectroscopic methods, X-ray analysis, thermal analysis, and quantum chemical calculations. The results revealed that sulfur oxidation significantly alters the crystal packing, thermal stability, and optoelectronic properties of BTBT derivatives. Notably, the oxidized forms exhibited increased thermal stability and enhanced emission properties, with quantum yields exceeding 99%. These findings provide valuable insights for designing advanced organic semiconductors and fluorescent materials with tunable properties, based on the BTBT core.

RESUMEN

We present an unexpected self-assembly of a glycoluril clip-poly(ε-caprolactone) conjugate in chloroform. The conjugate forms homodimer aggregates due to supramolecular interactions between glycoluril moieties, which was confirmed with MALDI-TOF-ms and 1H NMR. TEM revealed the formation of multilayered nanosized prism-shaped objects resembling tree bark in nature.

RESUMEN

Selected hetaryl and aryl thioketones react with acetylenecarboxylates under thermal conditions in the presence of LiClO4 or, alternatively, under high-pressure conditions (5 kbar) at room temperature yielding thiopyran derivatives. The hetero-Diels-Alder reaction occurs in a chemo- and regioselective manner. The initially formed [4 + 2] cycloadducts rearrange via a 1,3-hydrogen shift sequence to give the final products. The latter were smoothly oxidized by treatment with mCPBA to the corresponding sulfones.

RESUMEN

The synthesis of both enantiomers of 3-[(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]methyl-4,5-O-isopropylidenecyclopent-2-en-1-ol was accomplished in six steps based on optically inactive dimethyl meso-tartrate. This key intermediate in the synthesis of cyclopentenyl carbocyclic nucleosides was subsequently applied in the preparation of enantiomeric neplanocins A. The toxic effect of these compounds was investigated for a series of suspension and adherent cancer cell lines and normal human fibroblasts. (-)-Neplanocin A ((-)-NPA) was more toxic against all tested cancer cell lines than its dextrorotary counterpart. The highest toxicity with IC50 values of 7 and 10 µM was observed for the MOLT-4 and A431 cells, respectively. Moreover, (-)-NPA also induced apoptosis in A431 cell while this effect was not observed for (+)-NPA.
