RESUMEN

A simple method is reported for the determination of GPL in serum, requiring small amount of sample and adequate for screening of large population groups. The method is based on the release of glycerol portion of the phospholipid molecule by the combined action of phospholipase C and lipase. The glycerol is then determined by well established methods. The importance of screening of lecithin, that accounts for more than 84% of the glycerophospholipids of serum lipoproteins, is discussed in view of lipoprotein function and structure and in view of interaction between lipoproteins and plasma membranes.

RESUMEN

The association analysis of antibodies versus HCV, carried out with INNOLIA test, prevented a clear determination of the existence of specific serological patterns. In this respect, it may be of interest to monitor the immune response to the non-structural genomic regions (NS3, NS4, NS5). The INNOLIA kit is reliable, but susceptible to improvement in terms of specificity, sensitivity and biological standardization.

RESUMEN

Streptococcus pneumoniae causes lobar pneumonitis but primary peritonitis can occur in cyrrotic adults as well as in children affected by nephrosis and immunopathies. In young females peritonitis can be the consequence of infection localized at genital organs. Pneumococcal sepsis is becoming rare with the antibiotic era but resistance to penicillin is actually frequent and is becoming a problem for elderly. We report a case of a young woman affected by spontaneous primary peritonitis and pneumococcal sepsis. The prevalent symptoms were gastrointestinal: diarrhea and emesis. No infectious foci could be detected on imaging studies and during surgery.
