RESUMEN
UNLABELLED: Nuvaring (Organon, Kenilworth, NJ) is a vaginal contraception ring inserted by the patient. It was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001 for the prevention of pregnancy. The intent of this paper is to increase the awareness of Nuvaring among plastic surgeons, and to explore the risks associated with its use. We report the cases of two cosmetic surgery patients. These patients developed deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary emboli in the postoperative period while using Nuvaring. The very advantages of the Nuvaring-the ease of use, the avoidance of daily administration, and the insertion and removal of the device by the patient-may lead to the failure of patients to recollect being on a vaginal ring for contraception. Lower extremity diabetic wounds have been a challenge to clinical surgeons because of the higher risk of limb ischemia, soft-tissue infection, and soft-tissue loss caused by the pathology of the disease. In the published data, the most commonly used reconstruction techniques include pedicled flaps, microsurgical muscle or musculocutaneous flaps, and microsurgical fasciocutaneous or perforator flaps. However, there is still no consensus about which type of flap should be preferred among various reconstructive options. It is therefore the aim of this study to review current articles describing distal lower extremity flap reconstruction in patients with diabetes to survey reported results from the literature.

Glomus tumors develop from a thermoregulatory unit called the glomus body which is found in high density within the digits of both the hands and feet. To note, even though less frequently, these tumors can present in extradigital locations. Usually it presents as a small, 1-cm bluish nodule. Glomangioma (multiple glomus tumors) is to be differentiated clinically from the more solitary glomus tumor on the basis of larger size and prominent vascular markings. Although glomangioma is described in literature, the major textbooks of plastic surgery fail to mention it. A report of an unusual case of a large glomangioma in the shoulder of a 13-year-old female is presented. Clinical picture, investigation, surgical treatment, and pathology of this lesion are discussed.
