RESUMEN

We aimed at examining the shared and unique associations of metabolites with multiple cardiometabolic diseases (CMD), i.e. type 2 diabetes (T2D), coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke. In this study, a total of 168 plasma metabolites were measured by targeted high-throughput nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy among 98,162 participants free of T2D, CHD, and stroke at baseline. Cox proportional hazard models estimated hazard ratios for one SD increase in metabolite concentration levels, and false discovery rate (at 10%) was used to correct for multiple comparisons. Over 12.1 years of follow-up on average, 3,463 T2D, 6,186 CHD, and 1,892 stroke events were recorded. Most lipoprotein metabolites were associated with risks of T2D and CHD but not with the risk of stroke, with stronger associations for T2D than for CHD. Phospholipids within intermediate-density lipoprotein or large low-density lipoprotein particles showed positive associations with CHD and inverse associations with T2D. Metabolites indicating very small very low-density lipoprotein, histidine, creatinine, albumin, and glycoprotein acetyls were associated with risks of all three conditions. This large-scale metabolomics study revealed common and distinct metabolic biomarkers for T2D, CHD and stroke, providing instrumental information to possibly implement precision medicine for preventing and treating these conditions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Stroke and heart disease are two major contributors to the global disease burden. We aimed to evaluate and compare the roles of different handgrip strength (HGS) expressions in predicting stroke and heart disease in three nationally representative cohorts. METHODS: This longitudinal study used data from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS), the Survey of Health, Ageing, and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), and the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The Cox proportional hazard model was applied to analyze the relationship between HGS and stroke and heart disease, and Harrell's C index was used to assess the predictive abilities of different HGS expressions. RESULTS: A total of 4,407 participants suffered from stroke and 9,509 from heart disease during follow-up. Compared with the highest quartile, participants in the lowest quartile of dominant HGS, absolute HGS and relative HGS possessed a significantly higher risk of new-onset stroke in Europe, America, and China (all P < 0.05). After adding HGS to office-based risk factors, there were minimal or no differences in the increases of Harrell's C indexes among three HGS expressions. In contrast, the modest association between HGS and heart disease was only seen in SHARE and HRS, but not in CHARLS. CONCLUSION: Our findings support that HGS can be used as an independent predictor of stroke in middle-aged and older European, American and Chinese populations, and the predictive ability of HGS may not depend on how it is expressed. The relationship between HGS and heart disease calls for further validation.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CM) is an increasing public health and clinical concern. However, predictors for the development and prognosis of CM are poorly understood. The aims of this study were to investigate the relation between handgrip strength (HGS) and the risk of CM and to examine the association of HGS with all-cause mortality risk among patients with CM. METHODS: This prospective cohort study involved 493,774 participants from the UK Biobank. CM was defined as the simultaneous occurrence of two or more of the following conditions: type 2 diabetes, stroke, and coronary heart disease (CHD). Cox proportional hazards models were performed to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 12.1 years, 4701 incident CM cases were documented among participants with none cardiometabolic disease at baseline. Compared with the fourth quartile (Q4), the multivariable adjusted HR (95% CI) value of Q1 of HGS for developing CM was 1.46 (1.34-1.60). In participants with one cardiometabolic disease at baseline, participants in Q1 of HGS also possessed higher risk of CM than those in Q4, with HRs (95% CIs) being 1.35 (1.23-1.49) in patients with type 2 diabetes, 1.23 (1.04-1.46) in patients with stroke, and 1.23 (1.11-1.36) in patients with CHD. For participants with CM at recruitment, HGS was also associated with the risk of all-cause mortality (Q1 vs. Q4 HR: 1.57, 95% CI: 1.36-1.80). CONCLUSIONS: Our study provided novel evidence that HGS could be an independent predictor of morbidity and all-cause mortality of CM.

RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Studies have shown that tanshinone IIA (TIIA) has an anti-inflammatory effect, but the effect on allergic rhinitis (AR) is unclear. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we explore the effect of TIIA on AR. MATERIALS AND METHODS: AR mice model was established by the intraperitoneal (ip) injection of 50 µg ovalbumin (OVA). AR mice in the dose tested groups were treated with TIIA (10 mg/kg/d, ip) or dexamethasone (Dex) (2.5 mg/kg/d, oral). The number of nasal rubbing in mice was counted. Inflammatory, goblet and mast cells in nasal mucosal tissue were detected. The contents of histamine, OVA-immunoglobulin E (IgE), OVA-immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-5, interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and IL-12 in nasal lavage fluid (NALF) or serum were measured. Human mast cells (HMC-1) were treated with C48/80 to release histamine or TIIA for therapeutic effect, and the cell viability, histamine content and mast cell degranulation were examined. RESULTS: OVA promoted the number of nasal rubbings in mice (78 times/10 min, p< 0.001), increased the inflammatory, goblet and mast cells in nasal mucosal tissue, and significantly (p< 0.001) elevated the levels of histamine (120 ng/mL), OVA-IgE (2 pg/mL), OVA-IgG1 (90 ng/mL), TNF-α (2.3 pg/mL), IL-4 (150 pg/mL) and IL-5 (65 pg/mL) in serum or NALF of OVA-induced AR mice. However, both TIIA and Dex inhibited the effect of OVA on AR mice. Besides, TIIA reversed the promotion of histamine release (30%) and mast cell degranulation induced by C48/80. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: TIIA alleviates OVA-induced AR symptoms in AR mice, and may be applied as a therapeutic drug for patients with Th2-, or mast cell-allergic disorders.

RESUMEN

Global dimming reduces incident global radiation but increases the fraction of diffuse radiation, and thus affects crop yields; however, the underlying mechanisms of such an effect have not been revealed. We hypothesized that crop source-sink imbalance of either carbon (C) or nitrogen (N) during grain filling is a key factor underlying the effect of global dimming on yields. We presented a practical framework to assess both C and N source-sink relationships, using data of biomass and N accumulation from periodical sampling conducted in field experiments for wheat and rice from 2013 to 2016. We found a fertilization effect of the increased diffuse radiation fraction under global dimming, which alleviated the negative impact of decreased global radiation on source supply and sink growth, but the source supply and sink growth were still decreased by dimming, for both C and N. In wheat, the C source supply decreased more than the C sink demand, and as a result, crops remobilized more pre-heading C reserves, in response to dimming. However, these responses were converse in rice, which presumably stemmed from the more increment in radiation use efficiency and the more limited sink size in rice than wheat. The global dimming affected source supply and sink growth of C more significantly than that of N. Therefore, yields in both crops were dependent more on the source-sink imbalance of C than that of N during grain filling. Our revealed source-sink relationships, and their differences and similarities between wheat and rice, provide a basis for designing strategies to alleviate the impact of global dimming on crop productivity.

RESUMEN

Global dimming, a decadal decrease in incident global radiation, is often accompanied with an increase in the diffuse radiation fraction, and, therefore, the impact of global dimming on crop production is hard to predict. A popular approach to quantify this impact is the statistical analysis of historical climate and crop data, or use of dynamic crop simulation modelling approach. Here, we show that statistical analysis of historical data did not provide plausible values for the effect of diffuse radiation versus direct radiation on rice or wheat yield. In contrast, our field experimental study of 3 years demonstrated a fertilization effect of increased diffuse radiation fraction, which partly offset yield losses caused by decreased global radiation, in both crops. The fertilization effect was not attributed to any improved canopy light interception but mainly to the increased radiation use efficiency (RUE). The increased RUE was explained not only by the saturating shape of photosynthetic light response curves but also by plant acclimation to dimming that gradually increased leaf nitrogen concentration. Crop harvest index slightly decreased under dimming, thereby discounting the fertilization effect on crop yields. These results challenge existing modelling paradigms, which assume that the fertilization effect on crop yields is mainly attributed to an improved light interception. Further studies on the physiological mechanism of plant acclimation are required to better quantify the global dimming impact on agroecosystem productivity under future climate change.

RESUMEN

To combat bacterial resistance, a series of new oxazolidinone-fluoroquinolone hybrids have been synthesized and characterized. All synthetic hybrids were preliminarily evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activities against 6 standard strains and 3 clinical isolates. The majority of hybrids displayed excellent activities against Gram-positive bacteria, but limited activities against Gram-negative bacteria. Hybrids OBP-4 and OBP-5 were found to be the most promising compounds. Further, in vitro antibacterial activities, mode of action and acute toxicity in mice of hybrids OBP-4 and OBP-5 were investigated. Hybrids OBP-4 and OBP-5 exhibited potent activities against Gram-positive bacteria, including drug-resistant strains. Correspondingly, studies on the mode of action of hybrids OBP-4 and OBP-5 indicated a strong inhibitory activity on protein synthesis by binding the active site of 50S subunit, but a weak inhibitory action on DNA synthesis. In addition, LD50 values of hybrids OBP-4 and OBP-5 in the acute oral toxicity were larger than 2000 mg/kg, suggesting a good safety profile.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Occurrence and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. miR-1269b is up-regulated in HCC cells and tissues. However, the regulation of miR-1269b expression by HBV and the mechanism underlying the oncogenic activity of miR-1269b in HCC are unclear. METHODS: Reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) was used to measure the expression of miR-1269b and target genes in HCC tissues and cell lines. Western blot analysis was used to assess the expression of miR-1269b target genes and related proteins. Using luciferase reporter assays and EMSA, we identified the factors regulating the transcriptional level of miR-1269b. Colony formation, flow cytometry and cell migration assays were performed to evaluate the phenotypic changes caused by miR-1269b and its target in HCC cells. RESULTS: We demonstrated that the expression levels of pre-miR-1269b and miR-1269b in HBV-positive HepG2.2.15 cells were dramatically increased compared with HBV-negative HepG2 cells. HBx was shown to facilitate translocation of NF-κB from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, and NF-κB binds to the promoter of miR-1269b to enhance its transcription. miR-1269b targets and up-regulates CDC40, a cell division cycle 40 homolog. CDC40 increases cell cycle progression, cell proliferation and migration. Rescue experiment indicated that CDC40 promotes malignancy induced by miR-1269b in HCC cells. CONCLUSION: We found that HBx activates NF-κB to promote the expression of miR1269b, which augments CDC40 expression, contributing to malignancy in HCC. Our findings provide insights into the mechanisms underlying HBV-induced hepatocarcinogenesis.

RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Uterine rupture during pregnancy poses significant risks to both the fetus and the mother, resulting in high mortality and morbidity rates. While awareness of uterine rupture prevention after a cesarean section has increased, insufficient attention has been given to cases caused by pregnancy following hysteroscopy surgery. PATIENT CONCERNS: We report 2 cases here, both of whom had a history of hysteroscopy surgery and presented with severe abdominal pain during pregnancy. DIAGNOSES: Both patients had small uterine ruptures, with no significant abnormalities detected on ultrasonography. The diagnosis was confirmed by a CT scan, which showed hemoperitoneum. INTERVENTIONS: We performed emergency surgeries for the 2 cases. OUTCOMES: We repaired the uterus in 2 patients during the operation. Both patients recovered well. The children survived. No abnormalities were detected during their follow-up visits. LESSONS: Attention should be paid to the cases of pregnancy after hysteroscopy.

RESUMEN

High-quality diets have been increasingly acknowledged as a promising candidate to counter the growing prevalence of mental health disorders. This study aims to investigate the prospective associations of adhering to the EAT-Lancet reference diet with incident depression, anxiety and their co-occurrence in 180,446 UK Biobank participants. Degrees of adherence to the EAT-Lancet diet were translated into three different diet scores. Over 11.62 years of follow-up, participants in the highest adherence group of the Knuppel EAT-Lancet index showed lower risks of depression (hazard ratio: 0.806, 95% CI: 0.730-0.890), anxiety (0.818, 0.751-0.892) and their co-occurrence (0.756, 0.624-0.914), compared to the lowest adherence group. The corresponding hazard ratios (95% CIs) were 0.711 (0.627-0.806), 0.765 (0.687-0.852) and 0.659 (0.516-0.841) for the Stubbendorff EAT-Lancet index, and 0.844 (0.768-0.928), 0.825 (0.759-0.896) and 0.818 (0.682-0.981) for the Kesse-Guyot EAT-Lancet diet index. Our findings suggest that higher adherence to the EAT-Lancet diet is associated with lower risks of incident depression, anxiety and their co-occurrence.

RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CM) is an increasing public health concern. Previous observational studies have suggested inverse associations between coffee, tea, and caffeine intake and risks of individual cardiometabolic diseases; however, their associations with CM and related biological markers are unknown. METHODS: This prospective study involved 172 315 (for caffeine analysis) and 188 091 (tea and coffee analysis) participants free of any cardiometabolic diseases at baseline from the UK Biobank; 168 metabolites were measured among 88 204 and 96 393 participants. CM was defined as the coexistence of at least 2 of the following conditions: type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, and stroke. RESULTS: Nonlinear inverse associations of coffee, tea, and caffeine intake with the risk of new-onset CM were observed. Compared with nonconsumers or consumers of less than 100 mg caffeine per day, consumers of moderate amount of coffee (3 drinks/d) or caffeine (200-300 mg/d) had the lowest risk for new-onset CM, with respective hazard ratios (95% CIs) of 0.519 (0.417-0.647) and 0.593 (0.499-0.704). Multistate models revealed that moderate coffee or caffeine intake was inversely associated with risks of almost all developmental stages of CM, including transitions from a disease-free state to single cardiometabolic diseases and subsequently to CM. A total of 80 to 97 metabolites, such as lipid components within very low-density lipoprotein, histidine, and glycoprotein acetyls, were identified to be associated with both coffee, tea, or caffeine intake and incident CM. CONCLUSION: Habitual coffee or caffeine intake, especially at a moderate level, was associated with a lower risk of new-onset CM and could play important roles in almost all transition phases of CM development. Future studies are warranted to validate the implicated metabolic biomarkers underlying the relation between coffee, tea, and caffeine intake and CM.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Depressive symptoms are highly prevalent and increase risks of various morbidities. However, the extent to which depressive symptoms could account for incidence of these chronic conditions, in particular multimorbidity patterns, remains to be examined and quantified. METHODS: For this cohort analysis, we included 9024-14,093 participants aged 45 years and older from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the longitudinal associations between depressive symptoms and 13 common chronic diseases and 4 multimorbidity patterns. Population attributable fractions (PAFs) combining the information on both exposure prevalence and risk association were estimated to quantify the magnitude of the burden of these conditions attributable to depressive symptoms. RESULTS: Depressive symptoms were associated with increased risks of liver disease, stroke, heart problem, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, kidney disease, chronic lung disease, digestive disease, dyslipidemia, and memory-related disease, and the adjusted HRs (95% CIs) and PAFs (95% CIs) ranged from 1.15 (1.05-1.26) to 1.64 (1.38-1.96) and 5% (0-10%) to 17% (6-28%), respectively. In addition, individuals with depressive symptoms had elevated risks of the cardiometabolic-cancer pattern, the cerebrovascular-memory pattern, the articular-visceral organ pattern, and the respiratory pattern, with respective HRs (95% CIs) of 1.26 (1.11-1.42), 1.34 (1.07-1.69), 1.45 (1.29-1.63), and 2.01 (1.36-2.96), and respective PAFs (95% CIs) of 5% (0-10%), 8% (-4-21%), 12% (7-17%), and 20% (5-35%). CONCLUSION: Depressive symptoms contribute substantially to the burden across a broad range of chronic diseases as well as different multimorbidity patterns in middle-aged and older Chinese.

RESUMEN

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNAs that participate in the regulation of gene expression. In this study, we demonstrate that miR-7 was downregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues compared to adjacent non-tumor tissue. Over-expression of miR-7 in QGY-7703 and HepG2 cell lines inhibited colony formation and induced G1/S phase arrest, whereas knockdown of miR-7 produced the opposite phenotype. A tumor suppressor gene, CUL5, was identified as a direct target of miR-7, and CUL-5 is upregulated upon the binding of miR-7 to its 3'UTR. Furthermore, suppression of CUL5 also suppressed cell colony formation and induced cell cycle arrest. Ectopic expression of CUL5 abrogated the effects of miR-7 inhibition on QGY-7703 and HepG2 cell lines. These results indicate that miR-7 suppresses colony formation and causes cell cycle arrest via upregulation of CUL5, and it may function as a tumor suppressor in HCC.

RESUMEN

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a cellular reprogramming process that converts epithelial cells into mesenchymal-like cells with migratory and invasive capabilities. The initiation and regulation of EMT is closely linked to a range of transcription factors, cell adhesion molecules and signaling pathways, which play a key role in cancer metastasis and drug resistance. The regulation of ferroptosis is intricately linked to various cell death pathways, intracellular iron homeostasis, and the protein network governing iron supply and storage. The ability of ferroptosis to disrupt cancer cells and overcome drug resistance lies in its control of intracellular iron ion levels. EMT process can promote the accumulation of iron ions, providing conditions for ferroptosis. Conversely, ferroptosis may impact the regulatory network of EMT by modulating transcription factors, signaling pathways, and cell adhesion molecules. Thus, ferroptosis related genes and signaling pathways and oxidative homeostasis play important roles in the regulation of EMT. In this paper, we review the role of ferroptosis related genes and their signaling pathways in regulating cancer EMT to better understand the crosstalk mechanism between ferroptosis and EMT, aiming to provide better therapeutic strategies for eradicating cancer cells and overcoming drug resistance.

RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Whether baseline preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm) is associated with the risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D) and if this association could be mediated by circulating metabolites remains to be elucidated. OBJECTIVE: To measure the prospective association of PRISm with T2D and potential metabolic mediators thereof. METHODS: This study used data from the UK Biobank and included 72 683 individuals without diabetes at baseline. PRISm was defined as the predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) <80% and the FEV1/forced vital capacity ratio ≥0.70. Cox proportional hazards modeling was performed to assess the longitudinal relation between baseline PRISm and incident T2D. Mediation analysis was used to explore the mediation effects of circulating metabolites in the path from PRISm to T2D. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 12.06 years, 2513 participants developed T2D. Individuals who had PRISm (N = 8394) were 47% (95% CI, 33%-63%) more likely to develop T2D compared with those who had normal spirometry (N = 64 289). A total of 121 metabolites showed statistically significant mediation effects in the path from PRISm to T2D (false discovery rate <0.05). Glycoprotein acetyls, cholesteryl esters in large high-density lipoprotein (HDL), degree of unsaturation, cholesterol in large HDL, and cholesteryl esters in very large HDL were the top 5 metabolic markers, with mediation proportions (95% CI) being 11.91% (8.76%-16.58%), 11.04% (7.34%-15.55%), 10.36% (7.34%-14.71%), 9.87% (6.78%-14.09%), and 9.51% (6.33%-14.05%), respectively. A total of 11 principal components that explained 95% variance of the metabolic signatures accounted for 25.47% (20.83%-32.19%) of the relation between PRISm and T2D. CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed the association of PRISm with T2D risk and the potential roles of circulating metabolites in mediating this association.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The prospective associations of preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm) with new-onset macrovascular and microvascular complications and mortality among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and whether PRISm enhances the prediction ability of an established office-based risk score remain to be elucidated. RESEARCH QUESTION: Can PRISm be used as a predictor of poor prognosis in individuals with T2D? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: We included 20,047 study participants with T2D and complete data on spirometry at recruitment from the UK Biobank cohort. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess the associations of baseline PRISm (FEV1 to FVC ratio, ≥ 0.70; FEV1, < 80% predicted) with subsequent risks of incident stroke (any type), ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, unstable angina, coronary heart disease, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic kidney disease, all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and respiratory mortality. RESULTS: For this cohort analysis, 4,521 patients (22.55% of participants with T2D) showed comorbid PRISm at baseline. Over a median follow-up of 11.52 to 11.87 years, patients with T2D with PRISm at baseline showed higher risks than those with normal spirometry findings of various T2D complications developing and mortality; the adjusted hazard ratios for PRISm were 1.413 (95% CI, 1.187-1.681) for stroke (any type), 1.382 (95% CI, 1.129-1.690) for ischemic stroke, 1.253 (95% CI, 1.045-1.503) for myocardial infarction, 1.206 (95% CI, 1.086-1.339) for coronary heart disease, 1.311 (95% CI, 1.141-1.506) for diabetic retinopathy, 1.384 (95% CI, 1.190-1.610) for diabetic kidney disease, 1.337 (95% CI, 1.213-1.474) for all-cause mortality, 1.597 (95% CI, 1.296-1.967) for cardiovascular mortality, and 1.559 (95% CI, 1.189-2.044) for respiratory mortality, respectively. The addition of PRISm significantly improved the reclassification ability, based on the net reclassification index, of an office-based risk score by 15.53% (95% CI, 10.14%-19.63%) to 33.60% (95% CI, 20.90%-45.79%). INTERPRETATION: Individuals with T2D with comorbid PRISm, accounting for a considerable proportion of the population with T2D, showed significantly increased risks of adverse macrovascular and microvascular complications and mortality.

RESUMEN

Background: We report the clinicopathological characteristics, immunohistochemical features, ultrastructure, tissue source, differential diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of a patient with a uterine tumor resembling ovarian sex-cord tumor (UTROSCT). Case report: A 40-year-old woman had a uterine myoma with enlargement for 2.5 years. An ultrasound examination showed a mixed echogenic mass at the posterior wall of the uterus and a dark cyst in the right adnexal area, which suggested a suspected uterine myoma with liquefaction and a suspected chocolate cyst. The patient underwent transabdominal tumor resection with removal of the right adnexal mass. Through postoperative pathological examination, the patient was diagnosed with UTROSCT. No recurrence was observed after a follow-up of 1 year. Conclusion: Although UTROSCT is usually benign, it can relapse or metastasize, and patients with UTROSCT need comprehensive diagnosis and treatment.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Osteosarcoma(OS) and Ewing's sarcoma (EWS) are the two most common primary malignant bone tumors in children. The aim of the study was to identify key genes in OS and EWS and investigate their potential pathways. METHODS: Expression profiling (GSE16088 and GSE45544) were obtained from GEO DataSets. Differentially expressed genes were identified using GEO2R and key genes involved in the occurrence of both OS and EWS were selected using venn diagram. Gene ontology and pathway enrichment analyses were performed for the ensembl. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks were established by STRING. Further, UCSC was used to predict the transcription factors of the cell division cycke 5-like(CDC5L) gene, and GEPIA was used to analyze the correlation between the transcription factors and the CDC5L gene. RESULTS: The results showed that CDC5L gene was the key gene involved in the pathogenesis of OS and EWS. The gene is mainly involved in mitosis, and is related to RNA metabolism, processing of capped intron-containing pre-mRNA, mRNA and pre-mRNA splicing. CONCLUSION: CDC5L, as a key gene, plays a role in development of OS and EWS, which may be reliable targets for diagnosis and treatment of these primary malignant tumors.

RESUMEN

The attentional blink (AB) refers to the finding that performance on the second of two targets (T1 and T2) in a rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) stream is impaired when the targets are presented within 200-500 ms. To explore the possible interaction between spatial attentional orienting and temporary attentional deficits, this study used central (endogenous) and peripheral (exogenous) cues in a multi-stream RSVP task and compared the endogenous and exogenous cueing effects inside and outside of the AB period. While the endogenous cueing effect was constant in magnitude over time, the exogenous cueing effect was significantly larger inside than outside of the AB period. Theoretical implications of these findings for the interaction between attention mechanisms in spatial and temporal domains are discussed.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Cardiac masses are rare, but lead to high risk of stroke and death. Because of the different treatment methods, it is significant for clinicians to differentiate the nature of masses. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging has high intrinsic soft-tissue contrast and high spatial and temporal resolution and can provide evidence for differential diagnosis of cardiac masses. However, there is no evidence-based conclusion as to its accuracy. Therefore, the purpose of our study is to perform a systematic review on this issue and provide useful information for clinical diagnosis and treatment. METHODS: We will perform a systematic search in EMBASE, Cochrane Library, PubMed and Web of Science for diagnostic studies using CMR to detect cardiac masses from inception to October, 2019. Two authors will independently screen titles and abstracts for relevance, review full texts for inclusion and conduct detail data extraction. The methodological quality will be assessed using the QUADAS-2 tool. If pooling is possible, we will use bivariate model for diagnostic meta-analysis to estimate summary sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, and diagnostic odds ratio of CMR, as well as different sequences of CMR. Estimates of sensitivity and specificity from each study will be plotted in summary receive operating curve space and forest plots will be constructed for visual examination of variation in test accuracy. If enough studies are available, we will conduct sensitivity analysis and subgroup analysis. RESULTS: The results of this systematic review and meta-analysis will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this will be the first systematic review on the accuracy of CMR in the differential diagnosis of cardiac masses. This study will provide evidence and data to form a comprehensive understanding of the clinical value of CMR for cardiac masses patients. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethics approval and patient consent are not required, as this study is a systematic review. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42019137800.
