RESUMEN

The activity of the lithium--sodium countertransport system in erythrocytes was estimated in 16 control subjects and 28 patients suffering from affective disorders (11 bipolar, 17 unipolar) during depression, mania and remission. In all the patients studied, mean estimates of countertransport were significantly lower during an episode than after remission, with low values occurring more frequently in mania than in depression in bipolar patients. The mean values in patients with affective disorders but who were in remission remained lower than those of control subjects. Lowest values occurred more frequently in patients with bipolar than in those with unipolar illness. the possible physiological significance of reductions in the activity of the lithium--sodium countertransport mechanism in red cells was discussed.

RESUMEN

In patients with endogenous depression imipramine normalizes vascular responses in vegetative tests (orthostatic test, Schellong's test, cold pressor test). The highest percentages of normal vegetative tests during treatment with imipramine were observed in patients in remission of symptoms of depression. The orthostatic tests seem to have the highest diagnostic value. In tests based on measurement of surface temperature imipramine improved function of the vascular system.

RESUMEN

In patients suffering from endogenous depression, Trazodone caused a tendency to normalization of results of Schellong's orthostatic test, the cold pressor test, and tests of thermoregulation.

RESUMEN

Transvaginal ultrasound scanning was performed on 59 years old women with postmenopausal bleeding in anamnesis. Endometrial thickness was measured at its maximum in both longitudinal and transverse sections of the uterus. Also the thickness of uterus walls and ovaries in 3 planes were measured. Endometrium was irregular of 14 mm thickness. The patient had dilatation and curettage. Histology showed: adenocarcinoma I degree, and endometrial polyp. After hysterectomy the sonographic evaluation was compared with postoperative histologic measurements. Vaginal sonography is a good method of screening for uterine neoplasms in presymptomatic women. In postmenopausal patients who are not receiving hormonal replacement an endometrium of greater than 5 mm should be considered abnormal and undergo curettage and histological examination.

RESUMEN

73 expectant mothers from 7 to 37 weeks of pregnancy were divided into 4 groups according to their pregnant age. The women were clinically and sonography examined with endovaginal transducer. The main aim of these examinations was comparison of the results of cervix efficiency. In this sonography scanning were estimating the length, the width of the cervix canal and the width of internal os. Having done the examinations we discovery interdependence the cervix parameters of the age of pregnancy it also proved the great worth of endovaginal ultrasonography as a verification of the clinical examination.

RESUMEN

The paper analyses correlation between depressive syndromes and lipid metabolism and circulatory system disturbances. Two groups of patients with depression were compared. The first of them consisted of patients with an increased risk of atherosclerosis, in the other group there were patients with normal risk of atherosclerosis. It was found out that the most frequent parameter of lipid metabolism disturbances is cholesterol HDL fraction. Lipid metabolism disturbances in depression are larger in patients suffering from circulatory system disorders. The authors recommended to combine the treatment of depression with applying medicines counteracting lipid metabolism disturbances in patients having greater risk of atherosclerosis.

RESUMEN

The antidepressive effect of Hydiphen was evaluated and compared with imipramine in patients with endogenous depression. The Hydiphen group consisted of 23, and imipramine group of 22 subjects. The evaluation was made using psychometric scales, orthostatic test, ecg, and laboratory tests before treatment as well as during and after the clinical trial. The results proved the antidepressive effect of Hydiphen, in particular its influence on psychomotor activity, and on both mood and anxiety. In comparison to imipramine Hydiphen's++' influence on vegetative symptoms was less pronounced and the drug showed less cardiotoxicity.

RESUMEN

The aim of the study was to assess the neurophysiological factors of simple and complex reactivity of central nervous system in a group of 30 patients treated with endogenous depression and showing circulatory system disturbances, and in a group of 30 patients showing no such somatic problems. The findings showed that the simple and complex reactivity testing can be considered an important and sensitive indicator of the endogenous depression intensity, characteristic of additional circulatory system disturbances and "organic" basis of depression. Any improvement in the circulatory system disturbances and anti-atherosclerotic effect in elderly people should be taken into account.

RESUMEN

The evaluation of neurophysiological markers during imipramine treatment of 60 patients with endogenous depression was made. These markers were evaluated in 2 groups of patients: with cardio-vascular, and with brain circulation disturbances; both groups equal 30 subjects. During thymoleptic treatment of patients with circulation disturbances, elevated level of anxiety and statistically significant lower simple and complex reactivity of central nervous system were found. Such reactivity did not improve during the treatment in this group of patients. The lack of improvement of above mentioned parameters under imipramine may be the factor that elucidates the pathomechanism of chronic course of depression in old age. The improvement of circulation conditions, along with the thymoleptic therapy, should have the crucial importance for the therapeutic effect.

RESUMEN

Rheoencephalographic research had been performed in 30 subjects (mean age = = 57) suffering from both endogenous depression and cardiovascular disorder showing the disturbance of lipid metabolism. The result of the reg assessment confirmed our previous observations pointing to existence of the cerebral blood flow disturbances in these patients: shorter time of the propagation of the wave (Ra) suggesting higher tonus of the precerebral arteries, shorter time of the period (b) pointing to an acceleration of the heart rhythm and the lower value of the ratio Hmax/hd pointing to the higher tonus of the intracerebral arteries. The rheoencephalographic indices correlated with the lipid metabolism parameters, especially with total lipids, HDL and LDL-cholesterol fractions. The results point to the need for simultaneous using both antidepressant and prophylactic anti-atherosclerotic therapy in these patients.
