RESUMEN

Silicon (Si) is one of the most promising anode materials for high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries. However, the huge volume expansion hinders its commercial application. Embedding amorphous Si nanoparticles in a porous carbon framework is an effective way to alleviate Si volume expansion, with the pore volume of the carbon substrates playing a pivotal role. This work demonstrates the impact of pore volume on the electrochemical performance of the silicon/carbon porous composites from two perspectives: 1) pore volume affects the loadings of Si particles; 2) pore volume affects the structural stability and mechanical properties. The smaller pore volume of the carbon substrate cannot support the high Si loadings, which results in forming a thick Si shell on the surface, thereby being detrimental to cycling stability and the diffusion of electrons and ions. On top of that, the carbon substrate with a larger pore volume has poor structural stability due to its fragility, which is also not conducive to realizing long cycle life and high rate performance. Achieving excellent electrochemical performances should match the proper pore volume with Si content. This study will provide important insights into the rational design of the silicon/carbon porous composites based on the pore volume of the carbon substrates.

RESUMEN

Silicon monoxide (SiO) has attracted considerable interest as anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, their poor initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) and conductivity limit large-scale applications. Prelithiation and carbon-coating are common and effective strategies in industry for enhancing the electrochemical performance of SiO. However, the involved heat-treatment processes inevitably lead to coarsening of active silicon phases, posing a significant challenge in industrial applications. Herein, the differences in microstructures and electrochemical performances between prelithiated SiO with a pre-coated carbon layer (SiO@C@PLi) and SiO subjected to carbon-coating after prelithiation (SiO@PLi@C) are investigated. A preliminary carbon layer on the surface of SiO before prelithiation is found that can suppress active Si phase coarsening effectively and regulate the post-prelithiation phase content. The strategic optimization of the sequence where prelithiation and carbon-coating processes of SiO exert a critical influence on its regulation of microstructure and electrochemical performances. As a result, SiO@C@PLi exhibits a higher ICE of 88.0%, better cycling performance and lower electrode expansion than SiO@PLi@C. The pouch-type full-cell tests demonstrate that SiO@C@PLi/Graphite||NCM811 delivers a superior capacity retention of 91% after 500 cycles. This work provides invaluable insights into industrial productions of SiO anodes through optimizing the microstructure of SiO in prelithiation and carbon-coating processes.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to investigate the incremental prognostic value of the right ventricular fractal dimension (FD), a novel marker of myocardial trabecular complexity by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in patients with arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM). METHODS: Consecutive patients with ACM undergoing CMR were followed up for major cardiac events, including sudden cardiac death, aborted cardiac arrest, and appropriate implantable cardioverter defibrillator intervention. Prognosis prediction was compared by Cox regression analysis. We established a multivariable model supplemented with RV FD and evaluated its discrimination by Harrell's C-statistic. We compared the category-free, continuous net reclassification improvement (cNRI) and integrated discrimination index (IDI) before and after the addition of FD. RESULTS: A total of 105 patients were prospectively included from three centers and followed up for a median of 60 (48, 66) months; experienced 36 major cardiac events were recorded. Trabecular FD displayed a strong unadjusted association with major cardiac events (p < 0.05). In the multivariable Cox regression analysis, RV maximal apical FD maintained an independent association with major cardiac events (hazard ratio, 1.31 (1.11-1.55), p < 0.002). The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test displayed good fit (X2 = 0.68, p = 0.99). Diagnostic performance was significantly improved after the addition of RV maximal apical FD to the multivariable baseline model, and the continuous net reclassification improvement increased 21% (p = 0.001), and the integrated discrimination index improved 16% (p = 0.045). CONCLUSIONS: In patients with ACM, CMR-assessed myocardial trabecular complexity was independently correlated with adverse cardiovascular events and provided incremental prognostic value. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: The application of FD values for assessing RV myocardial trabeculae may become an accessible and promising parameter in monitoring and early diagnosis of risk factors for adverse cardiovascular events in patients with ACM. KEY POINTS: • Ventricular trabecular morphology, a novel quantitative marker by CMR, has been explored for the first time to determine the severity of ACM. • Patients with higher maximal apical fractal dimension of RV displayed significantly higher cumulative incidence of major cardiac events. • RV maximal apical FD was independently associated with major cardiac events and provided incremental prognostic value in patients with ACM.

RESUMEN

The meaningful and rational engineering of porphyrin-based catalysts with multimetallic active sites is very attractive toward photocatalytic hydrogen generation from water decomposition. Herein, three metal organic frameworks (MOFs) based on meso-tetrakis(4-carboxylphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) were successfully constructed under solvothermal conditions. As a novel architectured photocatalyst (triclinic, C48H29N4O10PdYb), Pd/Yb-PMOF manifested diverse metal active sites, suitable bandgap positions, prominent visible light-collecting capacity, excellent carrier transfer efficiency, and obvious synergistic effect between ytterbium and palladium ions. Consequently, such a bimetallic MOF exhibited strengthened photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance. Concretely, its hydrogen generation efficiency was up to 3196.42 µmol g-1 h-1 with 2 wt % Pt as a cocatalyst under visible light illumination. Our work demonstrates a promising strategy for highly efficient visible-light catalysts based on bimetallic-trimmed porphyrin MOFs.

RESUMEN

Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata), which belongs to the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae), is widely planted throughout the world. In June 2023, many pumpkin plants (cv. Miben) displayed leaf blight and chlorosis in fields located in Suizhou (31.99°N, 113.02°E), Hubei Province, China. The disease incidence ranged from 30 to 40% in nine fields, 6.3 ha in total. The symptoms were irregularly shaped lesions that expanded along the mid-vein until the leaf turned brown and wilted. Fungal isolations were performed as described previously (Liu et al. 2023). Twenty pumpkin leaf samples with typical symptoms were collected and cut into 1 cm×1 cm pieces. The diseased tissue was surface-sterilized in 75% ethanol for 30 sec, plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium and incubated at 25℃ for 3 days. Then, the emerging single fungal hyphal tip was transferred onto PDA plates to obtain purified isolates. A total of eighteen isolates on PDA plates were initially white and then developed to dark gray. The 5-day-old cultures growing on mung bean medium produced conidia that were black, single-celled, smooth, spherical or oblate, and ranged in size from 14.5 to 20.8 µm×13.3 to 20.5 µm (n=50). Therefore, the isolates were morphologically identified as Nigrospora sphaerica. Moreover, the genomic DNA of the isolates (HB-P1,HB-P2, and HB-P3) was extracted for amplification and sequencing of the regions of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) (White et al. 1990), nuclear large subunit rRNA (nLSU) (O'Donnell 1992; Rehner and Samuels 1994), and ß-tubulin (TUB2) (Glass and Donaldson 1995), with primers ITS1/ITS4, LROR/LR3, and Bt2a/Bt2b, respectively. Sequences were submitted to GenBank under accession numbers PP348112, PP348113, PP348114 (ITS), PP411414, PP411415, PP411416 (nLSU), and PP357438, PP357439, PP357440 (TUB2). BLASTn showed that the sequences ITS, nLSU, and TUB2 of HB-P1, HB-P2, and HB-P3 had >99% nucleotide identities ((ITS: 100%, 508/508 bp, MF996488.1; 99.8%, 506/507, ON326588.1; 100%, 500/500 ,MK748317.1), (nLSU: 99.83%, 573/574, KT462720.1; 99.83% , 574/575 bp, KT462720.1; 99.65%, 575/577, KT462720.1), and (TUB2: 100%, 388/388, MN719407.1; 99.74%, 387/388, MN719407.1; 100%, 387/387, MN719407.1)) with Nigrospora sphaerica, respectively. A multilocus (ITS, nLSU and TUB2) phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolates were Nigrospora sphaerica. Pathogenicity of three isolates were tested on pumpkin plants (cv. Miben). Fifteen pumpkin plants were inoculated by spraying the leaves (1×106 spores/ml), respectively, and 10 pumpkin plants were treated with sterile water as a negative control. All plants were incubated in an artificial climate box (LongYue, ShangHai) at 25℃ for 12 days. The experiment was repeated three times. Twelve days later, the inoculated pumpkin plants developed symptoms of leaf blight, while the control plants remained healthy. Then, pathogens were re-isolated from the each leaf of inoculated pumpkin plants and not from the control plants. Nigrospora sphaerica has been previously reported to cause leaf spot on watermelon in Malaysia (Ismail and Abd Razak 2021). To our knowledge, this is the first report of N. sphaerica causing leaf blight on pumpkin in China. This new disease can cause leaf blight, which may affect pumpkin productivity.

RESUMEN

Thermal priming of reef corals can enhance their heat tolerance; however, the legacy effects of heat stress during parental brooding on larval resilience remain understudied. This study investigated whether preconditioning adult coral Pocillopora damicornis to high temperatures (29°C and 32°C) could better prepare their larvae for heat stress. Results showed that heat-acclimated adults brooded larvae with reduced symbiont density and shifted thermal performance curves. Reciprocal transplant experiments demonstrated higher bleaching resistance and better photosynthetic and autotrophic performance in heat-exposed larvae from acclimated adults compared to unacclimated adults. RNA-seq revealed strong cellular stress responses in larvae from heat-acclimated adults that could have been effective in rescuing host cells from stress, as evidenced by the widespread upregulation of genes involved in cell cycle and mitosis. For symbionts, a molecular coordination between light harvesting, photoprotection and carbon fixation was detected in larvae from heat-acclimated adults, which may help optimize photosynthetic activity and yield under high temperature. Furthermore, heat acclimation led to opposing regulations of symbiont catabolic and anabolic pathways and favoured nutrient translocation to the host and thus a functional symbiosis. Notwithstanding, the improved heat tolerance was paralleled by reduced light-enhanced dark respiration, indicating metabolic depression for energy saving. Our findings suggest that adult heat acclimation can rapidly shift thermal tolerance of brooded coral larvae and provide integrated physiological and molecular evidence for this adaptive plasticity, which could increase climate resilience. However, the metabolic depression may be maladaptive for long-term organismal performance, highlighting the importance of curbing carbon emissions to better protect corals.

RESUMEN

An efficient method for C(sp3)-CHF bond formation was successfully developed by copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of allyl phosphate with 2-fluoro-2-(trimethylsilyl)acetate. Under moderate circumstances, the conversion was carried out in a good strategic range to provide a series of monofluoroalkylation products in high yields, which also demonstrates the practicality of gram-scale reactions.

RESUMEN

A novel three-dimensional lanthanide porphyrin-based MOF (Nd-PMOFs) was synthesized by using tetracarboxyphenyl porphyrin as the ligand and the lanthanide Nd as the coordination metal. Its specific crystal structure information was obtained by single-crystal diffraction with the space group C2/c and the empirical formula C72H45N6Nd2O15.25. This new Nd porphyrin-based MOF with an organic framework formed by a unique coordination method enables the effective separation of photogenerated electrons and holes under photoluminescence, giving it excellent photocatalytic property which could be verified by the characterization data. The photocatalytic performance was examined by taking tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant and Nd-PMOFs as the catalyst for photocatalytic oxidation of styrene to benzaldehyde with 91.4% conversion and 81.2% benzaldehyde selectivity under optimal reactions, which surpasses most of the results reported in the literature. Several styrenes with other substituents were screened to explore the general applicability of Nd-PMOF for photocatalysis of styrene, among which Nd-PMOFs also exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance. This work offers the possibility to apply lanthanide organometallic frameworks, which are widely used in fluorescent materials, to photocatalysis. In addition, it also provides a new method for the catalytic generation of benzaldehyde from styrene that is consistent with the needs of modern green development.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study aimed at the population receiving thrombolytic therapy and to explore the optimal time point for neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in predicting stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP). METHODS: We assessed patients undergoing intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for acute ischemic stroke. Blood parameters were sampled before thrombolysis (within 30 min after admission) and within 24-36 h after thrombolysis, respectively. The primary outcome measure was the occurrence of SAP. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the association between admission blood parameters and the event of SAP. We also used receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to assess the discriminative ability of blood parameters measured at different times in predicting SAP. RESULTS: Among the 388 patients, SAP occurred in 60 (15%) patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that NLR was significantly associated with SAP (NLR before IVT: aOR = 1.288; 95%CI = 1.123-1.476; p < 0.001; NLR after IVT: (aOR = 1.127, 95%CI = 1.017-1.249; p = 0.023). The ROC curve showed that the predictive ability of NLR after IVT was better than NLR before IVT, not only in predicting the occurrence of SAP but also in predicting short-term and long-term functional outcomes, hemorrhagic transformation, and 1-year mortality. CONCLUSION: Increased NLR measured within 24-36 h after IVT has a significant predictive effect on the occurrence of SAP and can be used to predict short-term and long-term poor functional outcomes, hemorrhagic transformation, and 1-year mortality.

RESUMEN

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a common vegetable in the Solanaceae family, which as a nutritious vegetable, is widely planted in China. In July 2022, typical wilt symptoms were observed in tomato fields located in the regions of Shiyan (31.343781°N, 110.901005°E), Hubei. Surveys were performed on tomato plants showing symptoms of leaf chlorosis, dry wilt, and vascular wilts on stem and root. The disease incidence ranged from 40% to 70% in 12 surveyed fields, 11.2 ha in total.. After using a sterilized scalpel to cut a small piece of diseased tomato stem and root tissue, diseased tissue was surface disinfested in 75% ethanol for 30s, placed onto potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium, and incubated at 25℃ for 3 days. Then, the emerging single fungal hypha tip was cut and transferred into PDA plates to obtain single spore isolates. Sixteen fungi growing on PDA plates were initially white colonies with abundant aerial mycelium. After seven days of growth, the center of the plate was yellow to orange and red pigmentation was produced. The five-day-old cultures grown on mung bean medium produced macroconidia that were scarce and scattered, three to four septa, wide central cells, slightly sharp apexes, and ranged in size from 12.6-23.6 µm×2.8-4.1 µm (n=30). Microconidia were slightly curved, ovoid with zero to two septa, measuring 5.2-11.8 µm×1.8-2.7µm (n=30). Spherical chlamydospores were terminal or intercalary, and measured a diameter of 8.1-11.6 µm (n =30). Therefore, sixteen isolates were morphologically identified as Fusarium spp. Moreover, the genomic DNA of the isolates (HBSY-1,HBSY-2, and HBSY-3) was extracted for amplification and sequencing of the regions of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) (White et al., 1990), nuclear large subunit rRNA (nLSU) (O'Donnell, 1992; Vilgalys and Hester, 1990), and the translation elongation factor 1-alpha (EF1-α) (O'Donnell et al. 1998) with primers ITS1/ITS4, NL1/LR3, and EF1/2, respectively. Sequences were submitted to GenBank under accession numbers OP959509, OQ568650, OQ568651 (ITS), OQ186731, OQ568652, OQ568653 (nLSU), and OP957576, OQ572485, OQ572486 (EF1-α). BLASTn showed that the sequences ITS, nLSU, and EF1-α were matched 99.61% (508/510 bp; KU528864.1), 99.90% (993/994 bp; GQ505450.1), and 99.85% (651/652; ON032449.1) to Fusarium brachygibbosum, respectively. Multilocus phylogenetic analysis showed that the isolate was of the same clade as F. brachygibbosum. Therefore, morphological characterization and molecular data identified the fungus as F. brachygibbosum. Pathogenicity of the isolate (HBSY-1) was tested on ten seedlings of tomato (cv. Hezuo908). Tomatoes were inoculated by spraying with conidial suspensions (1×107 spores/mL) at the rootstock region of each plant. In addition, ten negative control plants were treated with sterile water. All plants were incubated in an artificial climate box (LongYue, ShangHai) at 25℃ for 12 days. The experiment was repeated three times. Twelve days later, inoculated tomatoes developed typical wilting symptoms of leaves and vascular wilts of stem and root, while the control plants remained healthy. Thus, pathogens were reisolated from the stems of inoculated plants and not from control plants. To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. brachygibbosum causing leaf wilt and vascular wilts of stem and root on tomatoes in China.

RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Danggui Niantong Granules (DGNTG) are a valid and reliable traditional herbal formula, commonly used in clinical practice to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the mechanism of its effect on RA remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: An investigation of the therapeutic effects of DGNTG on RA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into four groups: control, model, DGNTG (2.16 g/kg, gavage), methotrexate (MTX) (1.35 mg/kg, gavage) for 28 days. The morphology of synovial and ankle tissues was observed by haematoxylin-eosin staining. The responses of mitochondrial apoptosis were assessed by qPCR, Western blotting and immunohistochemical staining. Rat faeces were analysed by 16S rRNA sequencing. RESULTS: Our results showed that DGNTG treatment reduced AI scores (7.83 ± 0.37 vs. 4.67 ± 0.47, p < 0.01) and paw volumes (7.63 ± 0.17 vs. 6.13 ± 0.11, p < 0.01) compared with the model group. DGNTG also increased the expression of Bax (0.34 ± 0.03 vs. 0.73 ± 0.03, p < 0.01), cytochrome c (CYTC) (0.24 ± 0.02 vs. 0.64 ± 0.01, p < 0.01) and cleaved caspase-9 (0.24 ± 0.04 vs. 0.83 ± 0.08, p < 0.01), and decreased bcl-2 (1.70 ± 0.11 vs. 0.60 ± 0.09, p < 0.01) expression. DGNTG treatment regulated the structure of gut microbiota. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: DGNTG ameliorated RA by promoting mitochondrial apoptosis, which may be associated with regulating gut microbiota structure. DGNTG can be used as a supplement and alternative drug for the treatment of RA; its ability to prevent RA deserves further study.

RESUMEN

Sulfonyl oxime ethers undergo facile radical substitutions with various amines to yield the corresponding oxime ethers. An efficient arylation of sulfonyl oxime ethers was accomplished under ambient temperature and metal-free conditions, with a wide range of functional group tolerance. Mechanistic investigations indicate that a phenyl radical is involved in the catalytic cycle.

RESUMEN

Toxoplasma gondii can infect almost all warm-blooded vertebrates with pathogensis being largely influenced by the host immune status. As important epidemiological hosts, rodents are globally distributed and are also commonly found infected with haemoflagellates, such as those in the genus Trypanosoma. We here address whether and how co-infection with trypanosomes can influence T. gondii infection in laboratory models. Rats of five strains, co-infected with T. lewisi and mice of four strains, co-infected with T. musculi, were found to be more or less susceptible to T. gondii infection, respectively, with corresponding increased or decreased brain cyst burdens. Downregulation of iNOS expression and decreased NO production or reverse were observed in the peritoneal macrophages of rats or mice, infected with trypanosomes, respectively. Trypanosoma lewisi and T. musculi can modulate host immune responses, either by enhancement or suppression and influence the outcome of Toxoplasma infection.

RESUMEN

KEOPS complex is one of the most conserved protein complexes in eukaryotes. It plays important roles in both telomere uncapping and tRNA N6-threonylcarbamoyladenosine (t6A) modification in budding yeast. But whether KEOPS complex plays any roles in DNA repair remains unknown. Here, we show that KEOPS complex plays positive roles in both DNA damage response and homologous recombination-mediated DNA repair independently of its t6A synthesis function. Additionally, KEOPS displays DNA binding activity in vitro, and is recruited to the chromatin at DNA breaks in vivo, suggesting a direct role of KEOPS in DSB repair. Mechanistically, KEOPS complex appears to promote DNA end resection through facilitating the association of Exo1 and Dna2 with DNA breaks. Interestingly, inactivation of both KEOPS and Mre11/Rad50/Xrs2 (MRX) complexes results in synergistic defect in DNA resection, revealing that KEOPS and MRX have some redundant functions in DNA resection. Thus we uncover a t6A-independent role of KEOPS complex in DNA resection, and propose that KEOPS might be a DSB sensor to assist cells in maintaining chromosome stability.

RESUMEN

erbb4 is a known susceptibility gene for schizophrenia. Chandelier cells (ChCs, also known as axo-axonic cells) are a distinct GABAergic interneuron subtype that exclusively target the axonal initial segment, which is the site of pyramidal neuron action potential initiation. ChCs are a source of ErbB4 expression and alterations in ChC-pyramidal neuron connectivity occur in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) of schizophrenic patients and animal models of schizophrenia. However, the contribution of ErbB4 in mPFC ChCs to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia remains unknown. By conditional deletion or knockdown of ErbB4 from mPFC ChCs, we demonstrated that ErbB4 deficits led to impaired ChC-pyramidal neuron connections and cognitive dysfunctions. Furthermore, the cognitive dysfunctions were normalized by L-838417, an agonist of GABAAα2 receptors enriched in the axonal initial segment. Given that cognitive dysfunctions are a core symptom of schizophrenia, our results may provide a new perspective for understanding the etiology of schizophrenia and suggest that GABAAα2 receptors may be potential pharmacological targets for its treatment.

RESUMEN

AIM: Acupuncture has benefits in the rehabilitation of neuropsychiatric sequelae of stroke. This study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dense cranial electroacupuncture stimulation plus body acupuncture (DCEAS+BA) in treating poststroke depression (PSD), functional disability, and cognitive deterioration. METHODS: In this assessor- and participant-blinded, randomized controlled trial, 91 stroke patients who initially had PSD were randomly assigned to either DCEAS+BA (n = 45) or minimum acupuncture stimulation as controls (n = 46) for three sessions per week over 8 consecutive weeks. The primary outcome was baseline-to-end-point change in score of the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. Secondary outcomes included the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale for depressive symptoms, the Barthel Index for functional disability, and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment for cognitive function. RESULTS: DCEAS+BA-treated patients showed strikingly greater end-point reduction than MAS-treated patients in scores of the three symptom domains. The clinical response rate, defined as an at least 50% baseline-to-end-point reduction in 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score, was markedly higher in the DCEAS+BA-treated group than that of controls (40.0% vs 17.4%, P = 0.031). Incidence of adverse events was not different in the two groups. Subgroup analysis revealed that DCEAS+BA with electrical stimulation on forehead acupoints was more apparent in reducing Barthel-Index-measured disability than that without electrical stimulation. CONCLUSION: DCEAS+BA, particularly with electrical stimulation on forehead acupoints, reduces PSD, functional disability, and cognitive deterioration of stroke patients. It can serve as an effective rehabilitation therapy for neuropsychiatric sequelae of stroke.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the normal structures of parotid duct by using magnetic resonance(MR)hydrography. Methods MR three-dimensional heavy T2-weighted imaging was performed in 21 normal subjects. After taking 200 mg of vitamin C orally for 3 minutes, the subjects underwent parotid duct coronal hydro-magnetic resonance imaging. The images were transferred to the GE AW4.5 workstation,on which multi-planner reformation was performed using Functool software. The numbers of the parotid duct, accessory parotid duct, segments, and its branches was counted and the length and diameter of the intra-and extra-parotid ducts were measured. Results Accessory ducts were found in 24 parotid glands(57.1%,24/42),with the average length being(9.54±9.98)mm and the average diameter being(0.87±0.88)mm.The intra-parotid ducts were found to be with 3 segments were in 3 cases(7.14%,3/42),with 2 segments in 19 cases(45.23%,19/42),and with 1 segment in 20 cases(47.62%,20/42).The average number of the branches of the first, second and third segment was 2.38,0.88,and 0.1,respectively.The average length of the intra-parotid duct was(36.97±7.97)mm,with its average diameter being(2.01±0.76)mm.The average length of extra-parotid duct was(34.98±10.25)mm,with its average diameter being(2.13±0.79)mm.The average length of the whole parotid duct was(71.95±11.47)mm,with its average diameter being(2.07±0.68)mm. Conclusion The parotid duct, the accessory parotid duct, and the segments and their branches of the intra-parotid duct can be accurately displayed by MR hydrography.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The aging of Chinese society has increased interest in improving the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of the elderly, including their oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). This study aims to evaluate the OHRQoL of elders living in Sichuan Province (China) and to explore the explanatory factors of their OHRQoL. METHODS: A cross-sectional study conducted in 2016 in the Sichuan Province analyzed data from 744 elders, aged 65 to 74 years (mean age 69.3, 51.3% female). Clinical examinations and questionnaires were completed to collect information on the participants' socio-demographic characteristics, health-related behaviors, dental status, subjective health conditions and General Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) score. RESULTS: The mean GOHAI score was 48.23 (SD 7.62), and the median score was 49. After adjustment for age and gender, the multiple linear regression analysis showed that participants who were female, had fair or poor self-rated oral health, decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) score ≥ 20, fair or poor self-rated general health, and ≥ 2 teeth with root caries had worse OHRQoL, and participants who were edentulous had better OHRQoL (F = 29.58, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The OHRQoL of the elders living in Sichuan Province was relatively good. The explanatory variables were gender; self-rated oral health; DMFT score; self-rated general health; number of natural teeth; and number of teeth with root caries. More attention should be paid to caries status and retention of healthy teeth to improve the OHRQoL of elders in Sichuan Province, preserving a healthy mouth contributes to better OHRQoL.
