RESUMEN

As electric vehicles (EVs) are developing at a rapid pace, the foreseeable "scrap tide" of EV batteries poses a severe challenge to ecological protection. This article investigates a dual-recycle channel closed-loop supply chain and provides regulatory solutions to retired EV batteries' recycling. Specifically, we construct four supervision scenarios: S1 no policy intervention, S2 reward-penalty scheme, S3 deposit-refund scheme, and S4 dual scheme combining S2 and S3. Based on the Stackelberg game and empirical data, all scenarios' recycling performance is evaluated and compared with a view to "society, economy, and environment". The results revealed: (1) Compared with S1, the recycling rate and carbon reduction rate in S2∼S4 increase by 2.6049%/0.0092%, 4.0379%/0.0285%, and 6.6660%/0.0379%, respectively; (2) The difference between S2 and S3 in recycling performance depends on regulatory intensities, yet the latter places greater burdens on consumers and firms. The S4 presents optimal environmental performance but at the expense of socioeconomic development; (3) As regulatory intensity increases, social welfare rises driven by environmental benefits, then falls due to overburdened supply chain profits, consumer surplus, and policy expenditures; (4) Carbon trading prices and EVs' potential market sizes affect regulatory schemes' operations. Our results contribute to policy-making and managerial practices for EV battery recycling.

RESUMEN

Aim was to explore the associations between baseline cortisol levels and surgery method of primary bilateral macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (PBMAH). We retrospectively reviewed the clinical features and management of 30 patients (18 females and 12 males) who were diagnosed with PBMAH in our center between 2005 and 2019. Based on surgery method, we divided the patients into two groups: unilateral adrenalectomy (UA) group; and bilateral adrenalectomy (BA) group. Serum cortisol rhythm and 24-hour urinary free cortisol (UFC/24 h) levels were assayed using chemiluminescence method. Associations between baseline cortisol levels and BA were assessed using logistic regression. The predictive value of baseline cortisol levels for BA was calculated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Twenty patients (66.7%) underwent UAs and ten patients (33.3%) underwent BAs. After adjusting for age, sex, BMI, SBP, and adrenal volume, the concentrations of baseline serum cortisol (8 AM, 4 PM, and 0 AM) and UFC/24 h were associated with bilateral adrenalectomy (all p<0.05). The area under the ROC curve based on 8 AM serum cortisol level model was larger than that in models based on 4 PM, 0 AM serum cortisol levels and UFC/24 h, but the differences were non-significant (all p>0.05). According to maximum Youden index criteria, the optimal cutoffs of 8 AM serum cortisol level and UFC were 26.89 µg/dl and 406.65 µg/24 h, respectively, for BA. The baseline cortisol levels are positively associated with BA. Increased levels of baseline cortisol levels may predict higher possibility of BA, which should be confirmed by prospective studies.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are implicated in the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The aim of current research is to elucidate the role and mechanism of circ_0011946 in the functional behaviors of OSCC cells. METHODS: Circ_0011946, microRNA (miR)-216a-5p, B cell lymphoma-2-like 2 protein (BCL2L2) abundances were exposed by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) or western blot. Cell proliferation, migration, invasion and apoptosis were detected by MTT, colony formation assay, transwell, wound-healing and flow cytometry assays, respectively. Target correlation was tested by dual-luciferase reporter and RNA pull-down assays. An in vivo xenograft experiment was employed to investigate the function of circ_0011946 on tumor growth in vivo. RESULTS: Circ_0011946 and BCL2L2 levels were increased, while miR-216a-5p level was decreased in OSCC tissues and cells. Circ_0011946 knockdown impeded proliferation, migration, and invasion, but promoted apoptosis in OSCC cells. Circ_0011946 functioned as a sponge for miR-216a-5p, and BCL2L2 was targeted by miR-216a-5p. Besides, miR-216a-5p or BCL2L2 knockdown partly attenuated the inhibitory influences of circ_0011946 silence or miR-216a-5p overexpression on OSCC cell progression. Furthermore, circ_0011946 post-transcriptionally regulated BCL2L2 through sponging miR-216a-5p. Moreover, circ_0011946 knockdown constrained OSCC tumor growth in vivo. CONCLUSION: Circ_0011946 silence repressed OSCC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, but promoted apoptosis through the regulation of the miR-216a-5p/BCL2L2 axis.

RESUMEN

Silicon (Si)-based light emitting thin film has been a key ingredient for all-Si-based optoelectronics. Besides material engineering, adopting a novel 3D photonic architecture represents an effective strategy to boost light excitation and extraction from Si-based thin film material. We here explore the use of a nanowires (NW) framework, grown via vapor-liquid-solid mode, to achieve strongly enhanced yellow-green luminescence from SiN(x)O(y)/NW core-shell structure, with an order of magnitude enhancement compared to co-deposited planar references. We found that choosing geometrically-identical but different NW cores (Si or SiO(2)) can lead to profound influence on the overall light emission performance. Combining parametric investigation and theoretical modeling, we have been able to evaluate the key contributions arising from different mechanisms that include near-field enhancement, 3D light trapping and enhanced light extraction. These new findings indicate a new and effective strategy for strong Si-based thin film light emitting source, while being generic enough to be applicable in a wide variety of other thin film materials.

RESUMEN

Radial junction (RJ) architecture has proven beneficial in boosting light harvesting and fast carrier separation in thin film solar cells. While a comprehensive understanding of the detailed absorption distribution and light incoupling mechanism within such a 3D RJ configuration remains largely unexplored. Taking hydrogenated amorphous Si (a-Si:H) RJ solar cells as an example, we here address in both experimental and theoretical manners the impacts of tilting and spacing configuration on the light absorption and external quantum efficiency (EQE) responses. A nice agreement between the calculated and experimental EQE responses indicates that the light harvesting realized within RJ thin film solar cells is quite robust against geometric variations and shadowing effects. Following the concepts of optical fiber injection, we have been able to single out the contribution arising solely from a resonant-mode-incoupling into the RJ cavities against a sidewall scattering incidence scenario. These results provide insightful viewpoints as well as practical guides in developing a new generation of high performance RJ thin film solar cells.

RESUMEN

This study introduces an innovative method for identifying high-efficiency perovskite materials using an asymmetric convolution block (ACB). Our approach involves preprocessing extensive data on perovskite oxide materials and developing a precise predictive model. This system is designed to accurately predict key properties such as band gap and stability, thereby eliminating the reliance on traditional feature importance filtering. It exhibited outstanding performance, achieving an accuracy of 96.8% and a recall of 0.998 in classification tasks, and a coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.993 with a mean squared error (MSE) of 0.004 in regression tasks. Notably, DyCoO3 and YVO3 were identified as promising candidates for photovoltaic applications due to their optimal band gaps. This efficient and precise method significantly advances the development of advanced materials for solar cells, providing a robust framework for rapid material screening.

RESUMEN

Microcantilever structures such as microgears play an important role in precision mechanisms, where highly accurate cantilever characteristics guarantee the reliable function of these structures. Projection-based stereolithography (PSL) technology is widely used to fabricate sophisticated microstructures owing to its high precision and remarkable efficiency, and plenty of works have been done to improve the precision of structures with macroscale. However, the shape accuracy of microcantilever structures fabricated through PSL process is always neglected, which severely hinders its application in precision mechanisms. In this work, we investigated the influence of major factors on the shape accuracy of microcantilever structures in PSL process through orthogonal tests. Different resin materials were tested to investigate the influence of material properties. Printing experiments showed that for a given PSL system, microcantilever structures with confined size could be directly and accurately manufactured using a set of optimized processing parameters, which dramatically speed up the production process and effectively improved the reliability of microcantilevers. This work provides a comprehensive understanding of the capability of PSL to fabricate microcantilever structures and guides the manufacturing processes of micromechanisms with cantilever features, which effectually promotes the industrial application of PSL technology.

RESUMEN

The potent antibacterial activity and low resistance of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) render them potential candidates for treating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Herein, a minimalist design strategy was proposed employing the "golden partner" combination of arginine (R) and tryptophan (W), along with a dendritic structure to design AMPs. By extension, the α/ε-amino group and the carboxyl group of lysine (K) were utilized to link R and W, forming dendritic peptide templates αRn(εRn)KWm-NH2 and αWn(εWn)KRm-NH2, respectively. The corresponding linear peptide templates R2nKWm-NH2 and W2nKRm-NH2 were used as controls. Their physicochemical properties, activity, toxicity, and stability were compared. Among these new peptides, the dendritic peptide R2(R2)KW4 was screened as a prospective candidate owing to its preferable antibacterial properties, biocompatibility, and stability. Additionally, R2(R2)KW4 not only effectively restrained the progression of antibiotic resistance, but also demonstrated synergistic utility when combined with conventional antibiotics due to its unique membrane-disruptive mechanism. Furthermore, R2(R2)KW4 possessed low toxicity (LD50 = 109.31 mg/kg) in vivo, while efficiently clearing E. coli in pulmonary-infected mice. In conclusion, R2(R2)KW4 has the potential to become an antimicrobial regent or adjuvant, and the minimalist design strategy of dendritic peptides provides innovative and encouraging thoughts in designing AMPs.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate the long-term effect of unilateral adrenalectomy (uADX) on patients with primary bilateral macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (PBMAH). METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 29 patients (including 11 men and 18 women) with PBMAH and Cushing's syndrome (CS) between 2005 and 2019 who underwent uADX in our center. Clinical symptoms, serum cortisol (8:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m., and 0:00 a.m.), 24 h urinary free cortisol (UFC), computed tomography (CT) scan of the adrenal gland, and pituitary nuclear magnetic resonance (MR) scan performed before and after operation were analyzed. RESULTS: The median follow-up time was 39 (13-134) months. uADX decreased significantly at 24 h UFC (median: 357.14 vs. 89.50 ug/24 h, P < 0.001) and serum cortisol (8:00 a.m.) (median: 22.88 vs. 12.50 ug/uL, P < 0.001) 1 year after surgery. In total, 17 of 29 patients had normal UFC again 1 year after surgery, while one of them suffered a relapse after 61 months. However, uADX failed to decrease UFC to the normal range in the other patients. Ten of the remaining 12 uncured patients and the relapsed patient finally underwent contralateral adrenalectomy (cADX). The 24 h UFC of the patients who were cured (n = 17) after uADX was significantly lower than that of the uncured patients (n = 12) (222.30 vs. 579.10 ug/24 h, P = 0.011). CONCLUSION: uADX may be an appropriate treatment for patients with mildly elevated cortisol, while contralateral adrenalectomy (cADX) may be required for patients with highly elevated cortisol. The level of 24 h UFC is helpful to predict patients' prognosis.

RESUMEN

To improve the recovery rate of oil in the formation, oil recovery technology has been continuously studied. Considering the experimental cost and data measurement in oil recovery research, laboratory oil recovery is the most effective method. The rock core model used in the simulation directly affects whether the research results are credible. However, the current three-dimensional rock core model manufacturing methods and corresponding models lack of reproducible, customizable, and visualized characteristics. In this study, a reproducible rock core model of microsphere accumulation based on the structure of natural rock core was designed and manufactured by microstereolithography. Oil recovery experiments and simulation studies show that the rock core model has similar flow characteristics to natural rock cores. In addition, resin rock core models with different structures and hydrogel rock core models with deformability are also manufactured by microstereolithography and used for simulation analysis. This research provides an effective and reproducible rock core structure model for the experiment of oil recovery research.

RESUMEN

The growing issue of particulate matter (PM) air pollution has given rise to extensive research into the development of high-performance air filters recently. As the core of air filters, various types of electrospun nanofiber membranes have been fabricated and developed. With the novel poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN)-CuCl2 composite nanofiber membranes as the filter membranes, we demonstrate the high PM removal efficiency exceeding 99% and can last a long service time. The nanoscale morphological characteristics of nanofiber membranes were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and mercury intrusion porosimeter. It is found that they appear to have a special net structure at specific CuCl2 concentrations, which substantially improves PM removal efficiency. We anticipate the PAN-CuCl2 composite nanofiber membranes will be expected to effectively solve some pressing problems in air filtration.

RESUMEN

Mulberry leaf tea reduces atherosclerotic lesions and its main component is Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ). We aimed to explore the effects of Mulberry leaf DNJ (MLD) on atherosclerotic lesions in the patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). MLD and serum DNJ was detected by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The CHD patients with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol >140 mg/dl were assigned into the EG (MLD treatment) and the CG (placebo treatment) groups. Serum biochemical indices, the cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) were measured before and after a 1-year intervention. Pearson Correlation Coefficient test was used to explore the relationship between serum levels of DNJ and IMT values. Serum DNJ was 70 ± 50 ng/ml in the EG group but no serum DNJ was detected in the CG group. The incidence of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events in the EG was lower than that in the CG group (p < .05). MLD therapy improved antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and serum lipid profile (p < .05). The IMT values in the EG group were lower than those in the CG group (p < .05). Serum levels of DNJ had a strong negative relationship with IMT values. MLD treatment attenuates atherosclerotic lesions possibly via DNJ. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Mulberry leaves Deoxynojirimycin (MLD) treatment improved antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and serum lipid profile in heart disease patients. MLD reduce carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and serum levels of DNJ (the main ingredient of mulberry leaf) had a strong relationship with IMT values. MLD is an amazing treat used for reducing the incidence of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events in heart disease patients.

RESUMEN

The prognosis for prostate cancer patients with distant metastasis is poor, with an average survival rate of 2448 months. The exact mechanisms underlying prostate cancer metastasis remain to be elucidated, despite previous research efforts. The present study aimed to reveal the regulatory roles of miR138 via Wnt/ßcatenin pathway in prostate cancer cell migration and invasion. Reverse transcriptionquantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to examine the mRNA and protein expression levels and transwell assay was conducted to determine cell invasion and migration. A luciferase reporter assay was used to determine the target association between miR138 and ßcatenin. The present study identified microRNA (miR)138 as an invasion and migration regulator in prostate cancer. miR138 was downregulated in aggressive prostate cancer cell lines. Furthermore, followingmiR138 overexpression, prostate cancer cells exhibited impaired invasive and migratory abilities. Ecadherin was upregulated and vimentin was downregulated. In addition, it was demonstrated that miR138 negatively regulated the Wnt/ßcatenin pathway activation in prostate cancer. The pathway was then activated via ßcatenin overexpression and this reversed the effects of miR138. The results suggest that miR138 downregulation may contribute to prostate cancer progression and metastasis. The findings provide a novel molecular therapeutic target in the treatment of prostate cancer metastasis.

RESUMEN

The ferroelectric control of spin-polarization at ferromagnet (FM)/ferroelectric organic (FE-Org) interface by electrically switching the ferroelectric polarization of the FE-Org has been recently realized in the organic multiferroic tunnel junctions (OMFTJs) and gained intensive interests for future multifunctional organic spintronic applications. Here, we report the evidence of ferroelectric "ailing-channel" in the organic barrier, which can effectively pin the ferroelectric domain, resulting in nonswitchable spin polarization at the FM/FE-Org interface. In particular, OMFTJs based on La0.6Sr0.4MnO3/P(VDF-TrFE) ( t)/Co/Au structures with different P(VDF-TrFE) thickness ( t) were fabricated. The combined advanced electron microscopy and spectroscopy studies clearly reveal that very limited Co diffusion exists in the P(VDF-TrFE) organic barrier when the Au/Co electrode is deposited around 80K. Pot-hole structures at the boundary between the P(VDF-TrFE) needle-like grains are evidenced to induce "ailing-channels" that hinder efficient ferroelectric polarization of the organic barrier and result in the quenching of the spin polarization switching at Co/P(VDF-TrFE) interface. Furthermore, the spin diffusion length in the negatively polarized P(VDF-TrFE) is measured to be about 7.2 nm at 20K. The evidence of the mechanism of ferroelectric "ailing-channels" is of essential importance to improve the performance of OMFTJ and master the key condition for an efficient ferroelectric control of the spin polarization of "spinterface".

RESUMEN

Inorganic CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I, or hybrid among them) perovskite quantum dots (IPQDs) are promising building blocks for exploring high performance optoelectronic applications. In this work, the authors report a new hybrid structure that marries CsPbX3 IPQDs to silicon nanowires (SiNWs) radial junction structures to achieve ultrafast and highly sensitive ultraviolet (UV) detection in solar-blind spectrum. A compact and uniform deployment of CsPbX3 IPQDs upon the sidewall of low-reflective 3D radial junctions enables a strong light field excitation and efficient down-conversion of the ultraviolet incidences, which are directly tailored into emission bands optimized for a rapid photodetection in surrounding ultrathin radial p-i-n junctions. A fast solar-blind UV detection has been demonstrated in this hybrid IPQD-NW detectors, with rise/fall response time scales of 0.48/1.03 ms and a high responsivity of 54 mA W-1 @200 nm (or 32 mA W-1 @270 nm), without the need of any external power supply. These results pave the way toward large area manufacturing of high performance Si-based perovskite UV detectors in a scalable and low-cost procedure.

RESUMEN

Acetate is an important industrial chemical and its production from wastes via mixed culture fermentation (MCF) is economic. In this work, the effect of hydraulic retention time (HRT) on acetate production from tofu processing wastewater (TPW) in extreme-thermophilic (70°C) MCF was first investigated. It was found that long HRT (>3days) could lead to less acetate production while stable acetate production was achieved at short HRT (3days) with the yield of 0.57g-COD/g-CODTPW. The microbial community analysis showed that hydrogenotrophic methanogens (mainly Methanothermobacter) occupied up to 90% of archaea at both HRTs of 3 and 5days. However, Coprothermobacter, the main acetate-degraders, decreased from 35.74% to 10.58% of bacteria when HRT decreased from 5 to 3days, supporting the aggravation of syntrophic acetate oxidation in long HRT. This work demonstrated that HRT was a crucial factor to maintain stable acetate production from TPW in extreme-thermophilic MCF.

RESUMEN

To observe the clinical effect of tashinone IIA combined with endocrine therapy in treating advanced-stage prostate cancer. 96 cases of advanced-stage prostate cancer were divided into observation group (44 cases received treatment) and control group (46 cases received treatment). Control group was given leuprolide acetate 3.75 mg hypodermic injection per month, combined with bicalutamide 50 mg per os per day for a 6-month treatment course. Observation group was given tashinone IIA injection 60 mg intravenously per day. They were treated for 2 weeks and paused for 2 weeks as one treatment course for six courses in total. After treating for 6 months, the general therapeutic effect, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), free prostate-specific antigen (f-PSA), hemoglobin (Hb), the quality of life questionnaire Core 30 (QLQ-C30), traditional Chinese medicine symptom information score, international prostate symptom score (I-PSS), and adverse effect rate were observed. The effective rate of observation group and control group was 52.3 and 28.3 %, respectively (P < 0.05). PSA, f-PSA, and Hb in two groups had no statistical difference before treatment. PSA and f-PSA in both groups obviously decreased compared to those before treatment, and they were lower in observation group than in control group (P < 0.01). Hb in observation group was higher than before treatment, whereas Hb in control group was lower than before treatment (P < 0.01). Life quality, motive score, the traditional Chinese medicine symptom score, and I-PSS in observation group were significantly better those that in control group after treatment (P < 0.01). Laboratory tests such as hemogram, and liver and kidney function had no obvious change, and adverse effect rate had no statistical difference. Routine endocrine treatment combined with tashinone IIA can enhance the clinical effects on treating advanced-stage prostate cancer and improve the clinical symptom score.
