RESUMEN
Atropoisomeric (hetero)biaryls are scaffolds with increasing importance in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. Although it is the most obvious disconnection to construct such compounds, the direct enantioselective C-H arylation through the concomitant induction of the chiral information remains extremely challenging and uncommon. Herein, the unprecedented earth-abundant 3d-metal-catalyzed atroposelective direct arylation is reported, furnishing rare atropoisomeric C2-arylated indoles. Kinetic studies and DFT computation revealed an uncommon mechanism for this asymmetric transformation, with the oxidative addition being the rate- and enantio-determining step. Excellent stereoselectivities were reached (up to 96% ee), while using an unusual N-heterocyclic carbene ligand bearing an essential remote substituent. Attractive dispersion interactions along with positive C-H---π interactions exerted by the ligand were identified as key factors to guarantee the excellent enantioselection.

The development of new fluorine-containing building blocks and their efficient synthetic access is currently a challenging research field. Herein, the highly regio- and stereoselective addition of a large range of aldehydes onto trifluoromethylated benzofulvenes was achieved using a simple La/I2 /DIBAL-Cl system via a selective C-F bond activation process. This versatile methodology provided homodienyl alcohols bearing a terminal CF2 -alkene with potential further applications, as shown by the dehydration to the first benzofulvenes carrying a difluorovinyl group. In addition, for certain electron-poor aldehydes, unprecedented ipso substitution of the CF3 group in a diene was observed, which, according to DFT studies, is related to the presence of the large, Lewis-acidic lanthanum metal.
RESUMEN
Ligand-free manganese-catalyzed homocoupling of arenes or aryl halides can be carried out under aerobic conditions via the in situ formation of the corresponding aryllithiums. A wide range of biaryls and derivatives has been obtained, and a mechanism involving monomeric manganese-oxo complexes has been proposed on the basis of DFT calculations.

An original metal-free procedure for the synthesis of biarylmethanes is disclosed herein. The reactions occur with high selectivity starting from aryl iodides and benzylic ketones in the presence of superbasic media (CsOH/DMSO). This procedure allows a straightforward access to a wide range of biarylmethane derivatives substituted with electron-withdrawing and -donating substituents.
RESUMEN
An α-vinylation of enolizable ketones has been developed by using ß-bromostyrenes and a KO tBu/NMP system. ß,γ-Unsaturated ketones of E configuration were obtained in excellent yield and selectivity. Further synthetic possibilities are highlighted by one-pot functionalization via trapping of intermediate dienolates with alkyl, allyl, benzyl, and propargyl halides to generate quaternary centers. The reported transformation is believed to involve phenylacetylene and propargylic alcohol derivatives.
