RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma is a rare disease, which is associated with a low endoscopic diagnostic accuracy even on tissue biopsy. We aimed to establish a diagnostic process system (M-system) using detailed magnifying endoscopy images to improve the diagnostic efficiency of this disease. METHODS: First, 34 cases from 16 patients with the diagnosis of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma were collected as the study group. The control group included randomly selected patients who were diagnosed with early differentiated carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma or inflammation. Then, the endoscopic images of these patients were analyzed by senior physicians. Finally, the M-system was established based on the data extracted from the images reviewed, and its diagnostic efficiency for mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma was validated by the junior physicians. RESULTS: A series of elements with high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma on endoscopic images were extracted for the establishment of the M-system. Using the M-system, the diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, specificity and correct indices of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma rose from 65.4 to 79.4%, 41.2 to 76.5%, 73.5 to 80.4% and 0.147 to 0.569%, respectively, all of which were statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: The M-system can improve the diagnostic accuracy of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma of the superficial-spreading type on detailed magnifying endoscopy. This would help in the early diagnosis of the disease and treatment, which would translate into improved clinical outcomes.

RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: BACKGROUND AND THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY: Mushroom polysaccharides have traditionally been used for the prevention and treatment of a multitude of disorders like infectious illnesses, cancers and various autoimmune diseases. In vitro and in vivo studies suggest that certain polysaccharides affect immune system function. Morchella conica (M. conica) is a species of rare edible mushroom whose multiple medicinal functions have been proven. Thus, the objective of this study is to isolate and characterize of exopolysaccharide from submerged mycelial culture of M. conica, and to evaluate its immunomodulatory activity. METHODS: A water-soluble Morchella conica Polysaccharides (MCP) were extracted and isolated from the fermentation broth of M. conica through a combination of DEAE-cellulose and Sephacryl S-300 HR chromatograph. NMR and IR spectroscopy has played a developing role in identification of polysaccharide with different structure and composition from fungal and plant sources, as well as complex glycosaminoglycans of animal origin. Thus, NMR and IR spectroscopy were used to analyze the chemical structure and composition of the isolated polysaccharide. Moreover, the polysaccharide was tested for its immunomodulatory activity at different concentrations using in vitro model. RESULTS: The results showed that MCP may significantly modulate nitric oxide production in macrophages, and promote splenocytes proliferation. Analysis from HPLC, infrared spectra and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy showed that MCP was a homogeneous mannan with an average molecular weight of approximately 81.2 kDa. The glycosidic bond links is →6)-α-D-Man p-(1→. CONCLUSION: The results suggested that the extracted MCP may modulate nitric oxide production in macrophages and promote splenocytes proliferation, and it may act as a potent immunomodulatory agent.

RESUMEN

The present investigation was focused on how to realize the attenuating compatibility of the electromagnetic defilade material in UV-Vis-Infrared band. Optical spectra of CNTs was investigated on the basis of analytical technologies such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, laser scattering, and electron microscopy. It was demonstrated that the multi-band attenuation characteristic of CNTs is effectively associated with additives, concentrations and configurations. The measured sample with a concentration of 0.04 g x L(-1), in which the radius of CNTs was 30-50 nm, bore the maximum value of the extinction coefficient of 7.825 m2 x g(-1) at the point of 265 nm. Meanwhile, this kind of CNTs presents outstanding unified attenuation properties in infrared wave band when the thickness of the CNTs film is 0.1 mm and the total mass of CNTs is 0.349 mg in optical path. Especially, the unified attenuation goes beyond 90% in 4.0-6.25 and 7.0-16.7 microm.

RESUMEN

To get a better understanding of the abnormal differentiation or maturation of keratinocytes, we studied the expression and distribution of cytokeratin and involucrin in lesions from systemic lupus erythematosus patients. Two groups of 10 specimens each from systemic lupus erythematosus and normal controls were analyzed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, mass spectrometric protein identification, Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. Our results showed that keratin 1 (K1)/K10 together with the new synthesis of K6/K16 were down-regulated and that K5/K14, K2e and involucrin were up-regulated. We found that involucrin was strongly stained in lower epidermal cell layers while K1/10 was weakly stained, particularly when compared with staining in normal epidermis. Additionally, we found that the expression of involucrin was increased. These results imply an aberrant early and terminal differentiation stage in the epidermis of systemic lupus erythematosus, which may be associated with inflammatory cytokines released during the wound healing response of lesion.

RESUMEN

In this paper, the formation of UV absorption spectrum from difference in temperature (UVASDT) is discussed. Broadening of spectral lines might be one of the reasons for the formation of UVASDT. The effect of temperature on the broadening of spectral lines is analyzed. The Doppler SDT function is deduced, and the SDT of C60 and progesterone can be explained by it. It is indicated that the Doppler effect might be the primary reason for the formation of UVASDT of this kind of substance.

RESUMEN

The morphology characteristics of cell apoptosis of the malignant tumour cells in magnetic field-treated mouse was observed for the first time. The apoptotic cancer cell contracted, became rounder and divorced from adjacent cells; the heterochromatin condensed and coagulated together along the inner side of the nuclear membrane; the endoplasmic reticulums (ER) expanded and fused with the cellular membrane; many apoptotic bodies which were packed by the cellular membrane appeared and were devoured by some lymphocytes and plasma. Apoptosis of cancer cells was detected by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediatedin situ nick end labeling (TUNEL). It was found that the number of apoptosis cancer cells of the sample treated by the magnetic field is more than that of the control sample. The growth of malignant tumour in mice was inhibited and the ability of immune cell to dissolve cancer cells was improved by ultralow frequency (ULF) pulsed gradient magnetic field; the nuclei DNA contents decreased, indicating that magnetic field can block DNA replication and inhibit mitosis of cancer cells. It was suggested that magnetic field could inhibit the metabolism of cancer cell, lower its malignancy, and restrain its rapid and heteromorphic growth. Since ULF pulsed gradient magnetic field can induce apoptosis of cancer cells and inhibit the growth of malignant tumour, it could be used as a new method to treat cancer.

RESUMEN

Paeonol is a broad-spectrum antitumor agent, which is widely used in the treatment of various tumors in Asia. However, the effect of paeonol on ovarian cancer remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of paeonol on ovarian cancer cells and its possible mechanism. Results measured by MTT (methyl thiazoyltetrazolium) assay showed that cell viability was markedly reduced in a dosage-dependent manner, when treated with paeonol for 24 h. Flow cytometry and Hoechst staining results indicated that the rate of apoptosis in the paeonol pretreatment group was higher than the control group. After co-culture with paeonol, cleaved Caspase 3 protein levels increased while survivin protein levels decreased. In conclusion, our findings indicate that paeonol can induce apoptosis of ovarian cancer cells via activation of Caspase 3 and down-regulation of survivin, and therefore is potentially an effective chemotherapeutic agent for ovarian cancer.
